It is finally time to unveil my custom guitar creation which I built at home with parts from GFS / Guitar Fetish! The pre-painted body and neck with frets and nut already installed made this a breeze. What was easy, what was hard? Let's go through this and find out and of course do a proper guitar demo of the finished guitar.

Oh no buddy hang in there! I can relate, I was in a bad accident at work that left me with a bad lower back, a messed up knee and a crushed hand( severed flexor tendons, both middle and index) I couldn't run, work out, drive or play guitar for a long while which sucked so bad because those were the thing i loved doing. It got dark for a while but then I picked up new hobbies and new people came into my life all of the sudden and filled me with so much positivity. I don't think I would've met ever, or talked to prior to my accident. I am rambling on, but it will get better man, I know it! surround yourself with positive people!!! Sudden change like that makes it hard to adapt to life, but you will pull through!! I wish you strength in your journey!! and in your guitar jousrney as well!! KEEP ROCK ALIVE!

The Fretwire is good but they have a limited selection. Max talks about Harley Benton guitar kits in a couple of videos. I just started a les paul kit from them. The wood is solid and looked really nice, the neck fits right, and it's got drop in wiring. It was $85 plus shipping. All's it takes is some mechanical skills , you can build your own. I built a Tele last year and painted it also , which is the most time consuming part. But it's not that hard , plus it's an enjoyable experience if you're into that. I upgraded all the hardware though because most of the kits come with junk tuner's and pickups , good luck if you decide to do one...👍✌️🎸

Great Build, Max. First, and foremost, the Guitar Max logo on the headstock!?!?!?!?!? Out-Friggin'-Standing!!!! Love It!!!! It jumps out to me that you mentioned the frets were not your fret of preference, but, please allow me to paraphrase when I say, were a pleasant surprise when the build was complete. Actually, I would be disappointed if there were just a "bolt together kit" where you couldn't add your own personal touches (like adding the conductive paint, for starters) and actually "Improve" the guitar. To me, that's what building your own guitar is all about. Building it the way you want it. Not just some "here ya go, just assemble it, and you're done." One school of thought...Unless I'm bored? And looking for something to do? I'd rather just buy what I want and spend my time playing. Great Build Max!! Please keep the great videos coming.

That is totally my kind of guitar. I had a custom guitar like this built for $1,500 in 1990 by one of the great builders in L.A. Superb guitar. But price does not make the guitar. It's rather the quality. I've really grown to like basswood. Most of my guitars have been alder or ash strats, but since getting a Schecter recently with a basswood body I've come to love this tonewood. And it's light.

The bridge/neck combo has some real qualities, 1 the sound is more evenly spaced and works great for rhythm, 2 you can still get the high harmonics/pinch harmonics and you can work from bridge to neck playing position and loose nothing, 3 no middle pickup to hinder you picking and strumming. In a live setting if I am to sing, I generally only go between bridge and neck anyhow. Again 1 volume 1 tone works so well in a live situation. Hardtail = very little room for tuning issues!! 22 frets, bend that high D up to E with no sweat!!

I just built a Esquire type guitar that I got the body and neck only at GF. The string inserts are a PITA. I had to shim the neck 1 percent.. I used a single Seymore Duncan 57 bridge Pup. And hip shot locking tuners. It is a orange sort of stripped maple with a roasted maple neck. So I have all gold hardware and I installed a leather pick guard I got on Esty.. It is beautiful. It would be nice to post picks on youtube... I am in a Johnny Cash Tribute and I will be playing it at a show this week. Sounds really good through my Fender Deluxe. I dumped some money into it.. Prob. never get it back.. But maybe my grand kids will get in to the guitar something there papa made..

I love this configuration. The Richie Blackmore set-up but with the extra bite of the neck humbucker. I built a similar partscaster, but added a toggle switch to coil split the humbucker. In that way, I have a total of 5 sounds. Little mod, but adds a lot of versatility.

That is the way I like them, Max. Simple... I wanted a single Humbucker by the bridge hardtail. So I shopped around for bodies and actually found a very cheap guitar online. It came with a really nice soft case. But the complaints were that it had problems with the neck. All the negative reviews were about the neck. Of course it also had cheap pots and bridge. But, the body was solid alder, a three piece and routed for a H by the bridge. I found a nice neck on eBay and put a Musiclilly bridge on, drilled it out just like yours with Tele ferrules and a set of Tone Ninja locking tuners on. Two pots, some wire and done. I like your idea. In fact, I think one like that is my next build.

Excellent job and resulting build Max. The only thing I’d change is to install a five way switch and configure a couple of extra tonal variations like the inside coil of the Humbucker alone and the same inside coil in combo with the neck pickup. It’s totally subjective and what I’d do.

But, it wasn't the same,.. The I got an accoustic, but that wasn't the same. Then I got acoustic electric which was better but the action was so high I could push a box of matches under the strings on the 5th fret!! A comfortable neck and great sounds - what more do you need! I've done a kit guitar before which was fun, so after your first video on this project, I thought I'd start a partscaster build that sort of mimics a Charvel model from the 80s, though I've got to do some routing work to compensate for the scale length (I want a 24 fret neck). TBH I'm not great with wood, but so far been able to fit and align the neck and drilling, add the tuners and nut. So once the routing is done, it's just stuff I've done before so I hope to get it done before the holidays. Anyway, great to see it worked out and looks and sounds cool!

Needed the cash, holidays, family etc... anyhow, I was thinking about that guitar while selling it. Love the hard mounted Diamarzio's, love the bridge, tuners were stable, pretty much love and enjoy every Ibanez I've ever had, close to a perfect 10. But...the neck. It's a deal maker/ breaker. No way around it. I could NOT get into the Wizard 3 or any of the Wizards for that matter. I bought a Jackson dinky 3 years ago and it spoiled me of ever being able to accept another neck again. Which is too bad, because I think Ibby's are a more solid buy on the whole. So the 12_16 radius, is that on Charvel's, EVH, some Music Man's? If you can think of other flat/ wide neck profiles please let me know. Does Warmouth sell Particularly flat and wide maple neck?

Now if you want to make it just a bit more pro. File more of that heel of the neck away right up to the body bro. I've been doing that to my guitars and man it makes all the difference. I can see your hand and where the neck stops you and your and has to spread further apart to reach the upper frets. Doing this and filing the profile of the neck right up to the heel will give you about another 2" of comfort. Things you need: Just tape off your guitar body with some painters blue tape. Get a few files you will need. Micro wood metal files work awesome for close to the body so you don't even take the neck off the guitar. A medium flat wood file, not too rough. A medium does well. 3 Grades of sandpaper. 80. 120. 320 does fine. Just take your time in shaping the neck to match the contours already of the neck, and you will love it! But other than that it looks and sounds great!

@GuitarMax, when you use the GTX100 for demos, are you using it with pedals or only with the modeling features? I keep hearing the high gain tones are thin for the modeling tones (and that the clean and Fender tones are legit --obviously!), but yours always sound nice. Just wondering how you're achieving that -- and do you think the GTX50 would sound similar or are you cranked to a level on the GTX100 that would lend to a better high gain modeling result? Tyvm!

I hope you bring the guitar to get a professional setup and also the frets did you check to see if they were level? Better yet send the neck out to get it scalloped that would be sick especially with the H/S pickup configuration like the hard tail setup I hope you put a coil split for the bridge pickup?

Hey MAX, I am building a "BOX of parts" from GFS. I bought it unfinished and it is a kind of self test to see what I can do. How do we chat?

Very similar to a Squier 51. The HS combo is getting more popular.

I like Guitar Fetish, and think they are good for "guitar" in general. They have a few products nobody else has. I'm fond of their "Factory Buyout" section. Building off that pile really forces you to reconcile a lot of measurement and manufacturing nuances. I like having a pile of parts around to pick from when doing an assembly. So, sometimes I just buy parts I like - without regard to a planned guitar. I feel like "sticking to a plan" can be a program for failure. For your build - I like that you went with something you liked, vs - just making something classic, or obvious. At first, I wondered why you didn't show more of the process. But it might have been best to not portray yourself with a certain skill set. Like - "this is how you do it" or "here's how to hang-glide." Knowing how painstaking these first builds can be, the "ta-da" approach might be best! Admittedly, I've reached for my sword a few times when putting guitars together! That said - I do really enjoy your reviews and find your casual, legs crossed, finger tapping review sessions to be oddly compelling - vs the more raging Metal imagery. And don't get me wrong - that stuff seems pretty cool too! Love the instrumentals!
