soooo some short flights were conducted today, just making sure everything is all good before trying to fly the pattern again!
Its also important to note its still a touch nose heavy, I cant put the batteries further back so some weight will needed to be added to the tail.

Michal Horváth yes it will....to paint it would be a mistake....the wing area alone would convert to several kilogrammes in weight of paint, not counting the fuselage! It would look great painted, but then you need more power! It all takes up weight. Its incredible as it is!

Hey Peter...when there is cross wind, learn to use the side-slip maneuver. It's a fun maneuver that I use when I fly on windy cross wind days. When you have wind coming from the right, use your joystick to tilt the plane to the right to counter the wind, then apply left rudder to keep you straight down the runway. Inversely, when the you have cross wind from the left, use your joystick to tilt the plane to the left to counter the wind, then apply right rudder to keep you straight down the runway. Congrats, pilot!

I second someone's suggestion of adding a yaw string or a wing vane on the nose to help with coordination. Even in straight flights it will help you if you have a slight crosswind, and it's the cheapest instrument you can put on an aircraft. And when/ if you do get to the point of making turns, an uncoordinated turn is right up there with stalls in the things most likely to get you killed.

Cats can't smile, do you even know what a cat is? Cats have tails and ear rotation, they hiss, yowl, and purr; they're not going to waste their time learning to simulate your primitive human facial expressions. They have birds to murder and females to molest with their tiny penises, they don't have time for that shit.

Peter, please do extensive ground testing including temps of motors, esc’s, and batteries after you upgrade to 14s and re prop. One Esc shutdown on a twin at 10’ altitude will force a tip stall. Also, because it’s a counter rotating (?) twin, there should not be the forces on the tail to make it ground loop - that’s when a single engine causes unbalanced forces onto the tail surfaces. I’d do ground testing at full throttle for at least four times the duration you’d expect to use WOT for takeoff and climb out. Also I noticed you are very choppy on the throttles; try to slowly adjust them. And stop screwing with differential thrust for now; fly the plane like it has one throttle so you can properly analyze your rudder effectiveness alone, then play with differential thrust after it flies well under one throttle.

Its not counter rotating props -- he covered that in past vids.

I was going to say the same thing re: messing with differential thrust during takeoff/landing, but you said it already.

Also be careful flying in much of any cross wind. It looks like with your minimal tip clearance you will not be able to use much cross wind slip correction before hitting the tip of the wing (on the ground), which could cause a nasty ground loop.

Andrei Segal Shots fired indeed. But... Pretty much "Dumont", because it was shown to the public and didn't require a catapult. lol It flies well like a Demoiselle with ailerons (instead of not-so-pratical 14-bis) and got a twin propellers and biplane wings setup like the Wright Flyer. It's a neat mix.

Dear Aviator, you are rare, your craftsmanship is 110%, a lot of naive people, that has not your courage say a lot of non sense coments they are just "chicken" affraid of everything even their wives shouting on them. Keep doing a nice and neat job. What I would do just for longer flights and moderate turbulence would be reinforce the center section with bi directional cloth and install a pitch trim or back up elevator control, that is what accidents reports involving amateur construction, has founbd throughout this years as a main cause of fatalities. As a builder and heavy jet pilot/ ultralight pilot, the only guys that equals to you briliant mind are Burt Rutan, Steve wittman, paul Poberezny and a few others very rare. AWESOME!!!

peter you need to make or get bigger props, with optionally more blades. you don't need more rpms, and it would be increasingly inefficient (commented before watching the video but it wouldn't hurt to have the extra thrust to get off the ground.)

@keegansponholz9260
@keegansponholz9260 7 лет назад
He's getting much more powerful batteries, which will negate the need for more motor. The props he currently has are made for the batteries he'll be getting soon. They're too small for the 12s setup he has now, so they're not making the thrust that they can. And, bigger motors are a lot more weight, possible pushing the airplane out of FAR part 103.

This is legit, I just completely reevaluated my expectations of what a person carrying aircraft needs to be, you've literally built a flying egg carton. Was gunna post the question how long people think before you convert to gas over electric, then realised you can't! it would melt at the slightest fuel spill haha. Nice work dude

As an old and crusty RD&T test flight engineer & pliot it appears safety needs to be brought up here. Peter you are young and healthy:Stop a moment and consider safety. Number One: Wear a helmet. An skull injury will put a stop to all this fun and learning. Number Two: Install a roll-bar with lower seat head rest to mitigate the risk of a skull fracture and broken neck. Number Three: Stop for the moment and meet with some flight test pilots and engineers. Go over your design failure modes and impact forces. Number Four: Keep good records of what you are doing. Number Five:Fly safe: airplanes can hurt you! Questio: Do you have medical & flight accident insurance? If not:GET IT! Side Note: One aircraft design group to get ahold of is at KU Aerospace Engineering in Lawrence, Kansas (Jayhawks) where they have mastered and won more aircraft AIAA design competitions than any other University. They'd no doubt work with you. They are aerospace engineering students, so use to working together. Go to their American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics KU . org site. Keep up the good work. However, get safety minded.

Ronald Barrett lol I understand and agree with safety being number one.... but how many planes have you seen (especially ultralights) with roll cages! Sure a helmet would be good but keep in mind planes are a lot safer than any car is.
@abs15826

JJ Poole I think that is true only for airline operations and not GA, let alone highly experimental ultralights.
