MY HONEST REACTION TO RET BUFFS - DRAGONFLIGHT 

What do you guys think about the new buffs!? Also for clarity, Venruki sent me a msg on the same day I recorded explaining that the clip wasn't related to me. So stop sending me that clip :-)

Props for Savix for being honest about the spec he plays when most of ret players coping with every buff they get. No number changes can make ret fun and interesting: recently it's either one shot bullshit or just being useless. Only whole spec rework can shake things up

I just wish it wouldn't come down to "I either oneshot one of them or I die/lose" against the majority of comps

I think it would be ideal to make our bubble a 2-3 CD. But if it’s dispelled or broken quickly that it have some type of dmg absorb that works similarly to shield of vengeance or reduced dmg after it’s broken. I think even that would be fair. It wouldn’t feel like a wasted defensive.

Thank you for addressing Ven, he's really turned into a crybaby as of late. Not 1 ret paladin main is asking for more damage that cares about their class. I'd love to see more people like Ven agree with savix on the problems ret has instead of complaining about a burst window. That way there is more pressure to change the class. Win win for everybody.

Man I remember the long arm of the law + Burden of guilt combo! Ret felt like a train and the wheel chair meme was not a thing. I remember when Blizzard nerfed Ret's mobility because they thought it was not suitable with the class fantasy and well, here we are.

No ret paladin main has asked for more more burst. People have asked not to be paper and have better mobility. Glad Savix is out there representing, keep up the good fight.

Give Ret Paladin wings that allow them to fly up and dive bomb stun.

I feel like its super evident in solo shuffle too where if you arent playing the S tier dps you just get focused every round and you have angry healer yelling at you for dying despite cycling through all your defensives.

Ret was by far the coolest melee class in Warlords of Draenor. The animations made you feel like the main character of an anime coupled with the constant speed increases and shiny effects made you feel like a mix between Tirion and The Flash. Kiting people for days while healing was insane back then. Magic def CD and kiting against melee made Ret able to deal with anyone. They had Blessings and Sanc Aura back then aswell, so multiple party/raid buffs. Look at Ret now, dogshet mobillity: Steed is a disgrace for a sprint on the GCD and looks goofy asf in contrast to Speed of Light. They took away our Blessings and our party buffs/boss debuffs that secured us a raiding spot. And all the combat animations look bad with the exception of Rebuke, Final Verdict and Exorzism. Blade of Justice, Conscecration, Execution Sentence, Final Reckoning, WoG, Hand of Hinderance and Hammer of Justice all have the same character animation of you holding your weapon up like a wizard would hold up his staff, it does not fit. Please for the love of god I hope they help them return to their roots

remove steed, give us our wod mobility options back (pursuit of justice vs the *GOOD* long arm of the law. id also be open to LAotL increasing the range of our melee by afew yards like the rogue talent) or give us a proper gap closer

As a ret main since 2008 I honestly felt fookin enraged when I saw that Ven clip too ngl. Blizzard should just revert Rets to WoD playstyle, that Ret was so fun to play it made me lvl up 4 of them.

Savix is like a calm and kind Eminem. When he gets serious it's over for anyone and he can back up whatever he's said since he was born. He's done this multiple times. The way he wants true PVP balance is the sign of an OG talking.

I've been playing ret paladin since TBC, the last few years make me feel like abandoning PvP in wow, the fact that I enter the arena and have to focus more on survivability and look for a "window" to open dmg. Where other classes brainlessly run into you, kill you "by accident because you weren't supposed to be targeted" :D Let blizzard give us some moving skills, survivability and love :pepesad:

As a player that hates burst I have to say that Paladin is one of the only classes that if I see popping burst I have to run a pop every defensive and is hella of toxic to play against. Wish Blizzard give you some tools to play another playstyle cause It must be so frustrating to pop burst and be giga kited and giga defended, never bursting anything when the onlything you have is your burst must suck ass.

My man Savix keeping it real. I feel the same way about our already more than sufficient damage, I’d like to live long enough to get at least half way through my burst…it’s setup takes so long that when I finally pop wings, all of my holy power goes to trying to stay alive…

hey savix - great video - i was a Ret pally main for many years myself but decided to move on to play unholy DK - like you, my thoughts where the same. i didnt like one shots and as you said during SL's i had to take a break from WoW because i was just tired of it. Sure, bursting someone out of the water then templar verdict hammering them to the moon was fun then but, it was short lived and made me realize ret was no longer what i once loved to play and made my choice.. i have been playing unholy since mid Legion after watching a few of your videos and the comment blizzard has posted noting they understand the issue is there - i might actually pull the Ret out of retirement and play it again. thanks for sharing. best regards, Sillz

I've totally been in this position before, where I'm frustrated about class balance because I feel like someone has an easier time getting off a one shot than I do, and blame blizzard, or the class. One shots in general suck. The point of a health bar is to show you how close you are to death, and if you can get 100-0'd by ANYONE, why even have health? The whole game revolves around getting off that one shot, or preventing it until dampening kills you. Venruki was probably just frustrated with shaman performance and was taking it out on ret paladins.

All the buffs are good except the final reckoning buff should have a "this does not apply in pvp" next to it. What I want to see for ret: -20 yd range HoJ baseline -Bring back long arm of the law (45% speed for 3 or 4 sec) -Bring back the option to play magic bop -Bring back emancipate -Divine protection/shield of vengeance 1 min cd baseline -REMOVE DIVINE STEED NOBODY LIKES IT

Buffs are nice but it's the Developer's notes that's the interesting part, i'm curious to see what's in the future for the spec

The only spec that had immunity even before WOW had been reduced to NOTHING like a joke throw spell from the warr can break it or lightspeed unkickable MD can dispel it. What in my opinion think should be done with our bubble is either make it that nothing can dispel it or if it got dispelled we should gain a 20-30% heal on us and 50% dmg reduction for the rest of the time depending when it is dispelled. And this is not a big WANT cus we are talking about our "BEST" 5 min defensive spell. So they should really do something.

What Venruki doesnt get is that ret does just as much damage as the top damage PvP classes but those classes have like 3-4x more defensives/tankiness and mobility

This is exactly how I feel playing the class. I wish I could just run around with FV and Divine Toll. But the lack of defensives and movement almost forces you to play the burst. And I hate playing burst. Who wants to only have the long inbetweens where they feel like they aren't doing much?

I agree with you on this Savix. I loved ret pally back in MoP. Now, all i have to do vs rets now is kite their wings, and kill them after buble. 😢

I get that they want the tankiness of Paladin to be all for Prot but even then they should get away from burst damage Ret it just doesn't fit the Class Fantasy they don't need to make Ret tanky to make it make sense but giving it utility and in return take away some of the damage

is it just me or a lot of different specs had more depth and diversity back during Cataclysm/MoP/WoD days? even during BC and WOTLK, even though the class design was a lot simpler, what made it great was that every class had a spec that was deadly in certain things that that spec did far better than other classes

Since the beginning of time, people have hated on ret paladin. Regardless of power level, I don’t think that’s changing. With the frequent changes and with blizzard heading in the right direction, it might be time for me to dust off my ret.

I stopped playing PVP years ago because of the direction of ret pally. It feels like the blizz dev who's in charge hasn't played anything but holy and prot for years, and only balances ret around PVE (always trying to keep their avg dmg in the middle of the pack). When you mention util, all you ever hear back is "well you have bubble". I haven't felt like I have bubble in PVP for years. I hope they actually listen to your advice this time, but only time will tell.

This will come from as a mainly PVE Ret player: While some of the buffs ar eindeed nice (Crusader strike) it is just a flimsy bandaid on a gushing wound. Ret's biggest issue in my opinion is it's bloated talent tree, where there are not enough meaningful talents, and the few you can find are mostly placed on the lower tiers so so can pick as few as possible. This means that you have to settle for subpar choices, where some are boring, barely useless % based increases (haste, mastery etc), procbased mediocre talents (Expurgation) or talents that don't synergise with your toolkit whatsever (Exorcism). On top of this issue, ret is currently stuck is a design-limbo, where the hastly designed second round of setbonuses are actively gatekeeping talents from recieving buffs, for example Tepmlars Vindication and Final Verdict. Templars in itself is a horribly designed talent in itself, where you waste 2 points to get a 15% chance for Verdict to strike again for 25% of it's orignal damage. Just for comparison, on the same row it has to compete with talents like Ashes to Ashes or Relentless Inquisitor, which are both miles ahead in value. Divine Toll made is stinking return, but the small indie company forgot to implement Ringing Clarity as a talent or a baseline effect in DT, so on a single target fight you have to play with a double damage Judgement on a 1 minute cooldown. And while the talents are a serious issue, the other side of the problem is pvp, as always. Ret still has enormous potential to completely delete opponents within a few GCDs, so buffing it's single target damage could easily mean that it would break pvp. I only wish Blizzard would have more resources to spend on a system that would allow separate tuning between pve and pvp......oh wait. In the end, I always feel like Ret's shitty place in the pve meta always is the way it is, because the spec is just not designed the right way. It can't be meta or even good, because then it means they could perform on an insane level in a different gamemode, but if they tune it accordingly to pvp it will be trash in pve. Yes, there are other problems like the lack of raidwide utility, getting stripped from the last few remaining ones, because they had to fill the paladin tree with something, and of course the ret dev clearly doesn't understands the spec they should work on. I hate to say it, but if they would revert Ret back to how it was in WoD, we'd get a 3 times better experience than we had ever since.

so im pretty new to playing wow in a serious setting but every time i go against a ret i dont really worry too much besides that 5 second stun window if i dont have a trinket/racial to get out of it because i know the majority of the burst is in that window. i think ret really only needs mobility and defensive buff. i normally kill ret pretty quick regardless of the class im playing (altoholics unite) im planning on leveling a Ret so i can get some first hand experience in this but aside from that im 100% sure Savix is correct on his points from what ive seen in my short Wow time.

God thank god someone is talking about the one shots i was playing a fire mage in bgs and every godamm time i see this markmanship hunter pressing aimshot 160kdmg or rapid fire 100% to 0% i like doing big damage but if it becomes a 1 shoot the outplay potential and all that good stuff is not there great video!

Buff Devo Aura, buff the DR on DP, and Mobility, We'll be set for sure

The buffs are meh but the best think is the acknowledgment that we are a struggling spec and they are looking to do something about it

It is odd that they increased our damage rather than our survivability. I don't have a problem killing, I have a problem not dieing. What I would really like to see is a new ability "Holy Burden" (or something cooler named I guess) A light beams on up and we fly up in it. A light then appears our target and we slam down onto them, interrupting them. It would provide movement, a quick damage break (maybe it even cures curses and bleeds), and a ranged interrupt. Besides it would like actually insane.

PvE Ret, I love it. PvP does need work, hell give me passive 15% movement talent back like in classic, rogues can get it x3 if you include the 20%nightstalker.

I think at this point the class needs an entire rework. We shouldn't feel gimped outside if wing damage. I think a good example of how Ret could play in a modern game is how they make Crusader feel in Diablo.

THIS is what I’ve been looking for since beta. Not these buffs, but that last line about looking at the spec further. All many of us have been wanting is simply a bit of discourse about our only dps spec, and some of the rationale around its direction. Sounds like someone’s heard our calls.

One thing you need to keep in mind is that arena isn't the only content in the game. In BGs and open world content, Paladins NEED healing. Personally I would be happy with better sustained damage (no one shot crap), more mobility and decent healing (a HoT?), but that's just me. Rebuke should also be a 25 yard hammer you throw as an interrupt. Another request, perhaps after X judgements thrown, a charge of Divine Steed resets. So if some asshole hunter is kiting you, you can range for a bit then leap atop your glorious mount to charge them. Really happy to see tickle strike is getting a nice buff.

Ret at this point needs to be entirely reworked. Mobility, healing and survivability for sure. Why do I take SO MUCH BURST from just random mobs when I'm in full plate? I don't get it.

Id either make shield of vengeance a 3 minute CD but a huge absorb like warlock shield , or turn eye for an eye into a 35% dr for both magic and physical or divine protection to 30% damage reduction

it is really funny for me to see people complaining about ret paladin damage when they just take a full wings duration to the face instead of literally WALKING away and pally can't catch up lol

Is the buff to FInal Reckoning on the initial hit, the damage buff it gives, or both? Also, it is buffing the passive for reckoning as well?

Survivability is so bad, I'm shocked when I'm not the main target every solo que especially when there seems to ALWAYS be a priest.

When I was running a full crit, blade of justice build, blade was critting for 60k with wings... a 25% buff is huge. I think I'll give it a try again.

An easy makeshift fix: Shield of Vengeance and Divine protection --> Baseline. Talent node choices that buffs SoV and DP.

I've seen a 182k Blade sweep before. After the essence break nerfs thats still 1/3 hp. Fire Breath hitting for 214k is getting buffed, Ret and warriors getting buffed. Either don't allow one shots at all or leave them all in. Seems stupid.

WoW having decent PvP gameplay and community made the game feel so much bigger ever since they almost gave up on it the game just doesn't feel the same because of that

It’s a 1/2 second cast for MD with their talent. Unless you pre HoJ/CC the priest you’re just absolutely boned. Just give us a defensive that matters, remove Eye from JV choice node, and some form of gap closer/movement ability. Stop with the damage buffs please, we get enough crybabies about our damage as it is because it’s so hard to see a slow ass plodding Pally running at you with wings to avoid/CC/snare whatever

i agree with u 200% but now why can palys still kill people with bubble? like can mages attack with block up? so we need mobility sustain dmg out of our burst period, one shot sucks for everyone

Agree with savix. I've seen those videos and he always ask for mobility and boost defensives. Please Blizzard no more one shots I want to have my shield of vengeance at least 2 sec, I want to have my divine shield for at least 2 seconds, give me the chance at least to avoid ve dispelled by priest and warriors otherwise the paladin has no defensives... I don't want one shots in any class I want a fight for at least 2 to 5 minutes after waiting a queue of 3 minutes, I don't want a fight that takes less than 30 seconds due to one shots. I stand with you Savix

Honestly, I don’t like Venruki, there was a time when he wasn’t just a good pvp player but respectable too. A lot of high rated players that play other specs have never tried to play Ret at a high level, and Ret at a high level is actually pretty difficult especially because if we don’t kill in the first burst window we have 1/2 minutes of very lackluster dmg output. And I think Ven is one of those players that has some back door to blizz and gets certain classes buffed and others nerfed. Even if it isn’t true he’s still always played FotM classes.

I sort of diagree with your statement that ret shouldn't have healing. Hybrid classes should have healing, Full dps classes shouldn't have healing i.e. Hunter, rogue, warrior, mage, lock(except HS and nerf drain life), DK.

I actually loved the old Word of Glory when it actually DID heal for a ton, and with a Shield of Vengeance that actually worked and even did a fearful damage on the oponents when it bursted. Now it feels just like a glowing affect not even notice the damage reduction. What went wrong? lol

Really don't know how anyone gets any high rating in Solo Shuffle, when people always leave whenever I get a game where I am at 4+ wins. I have played a lot, and it is such a leavefest I feel like I would have been way higher rating than I am if people just stuck to their Ls whenever they lost. This might be a bit off-topic when it comes to the video above, but I cannot wait to see if the changes to solo shuffle discourages people to leave, and if people do, they will get a harsh lesson. I just find it outrageously funny how people get even above 1900 rating in this mode, they must have some sick endurance, patience and a will to overcome is near inhuman. Also, love your vids Savix, but Paladins does need some survivability buffs rather than pure damage, at least in pvp, and as for healing in pvp. I play hunter, and I have only 1 thing that helps me to keep my health bar a little bit above 0, and that heals me for 30% of my health, at least ONCE per arena match, otherwise, we got tons of survivability to evade and negate damage, so that makes up for it. But paladins, only have their bubble, dispellable bubble at that. If they only made the bubble not dispellable, that would be something. Because this takes me back to the good old days when I did 3s in Cataclysm, I played Disc Priest, had a warrior and paladin team mates. And whenever we dueled for fun, dispelling wings was always so fun to watch him run around hacking at me while waiting for cooldowns, only to be dispelled again. Nostalgia.

Ret spec design has been a devisive mess since wod or legion. Pvp or pve, it's about the same. Ret burst has been insane in all content for 8 years, that's the last thing that needs a buff.

I feel like ret should have good healing with flash of light and holy light and shamans with healing surges and totems and ferals with hots I feel that because hybrid classes don’t have close to as much utility as pure dps classes we compensate with our self healing I also feel like going oom as a hybrid is a good think too makes you either use mana for heals or dps I don’t think we should just be able to do both the whole game I feel like wotlk with a little bit of mop would be perfect

I feel what you say about healing, but, if they do not change others aswell, we need it and badly pumped, a warrior selfheals for more than double we can and other classes that are so called "pure dps" selfheals better and do also more damage than us. So, or they revamp all the classes, or they just fix one class to be on pair with others, and, surely for them is better just redo one class than all of them.

Its somewhat the same problem for pve, hopefully we will see some nice changes. The developer note sounds promising

I'm on your side Savix, I hate one-shot mechanics or things that can happen so fast you can't realistically react to them or you can't do anything to even avoid the damage without some max wall tactics. But I know Blizzard wants to end games so that's why they design it like this, they don't want arena matches going on forever but I think they're going the wrong way about it.

Ret buffs won't do much to help the class nor make it more fun to play. Consecration is a boring ability to use and needs to be reworked or taken power out of it and transferred into something else. Needs more mobility and more defensives.

Maybe bubble should turn into divine protection for it's remaining time when it is mass dispelled/throw. Something similar for ice block.

Ret doesnt need dmg, they need more ways to survive and mobility. I dont play a ret. So i could be wrong

Here's an idea: Give Ret PvP talent that makes Devine Shield 2 to 2.5 min CD with new effect that reduces dmg taken by 80% on the initial click and drops by 10-15% every second

My friend also sent me that ven clip. I replied “if you let a 140k es hit you, it’s 10000% a skill issue”
