Ken, you may want to visit a beautiful ancient town called Yangzhou in Guangxi province in southwest China. Yangshuo is famous for its scenic natural beauty, with a surreal landscape of limestone karst hills and caves and a lush countryside with rustic farms and picturesque ancient towns.😃
Jealousy my brother because west is falling apart I live in Toronto..and I feel like we live in third world compared to China..I wish I could visit there before I leave this world.... people China is gonna be emperor of the world...cope
I live in Toronto and I just returned from China, visited 5 cities in 15 days (Beijing, Shanghai, Sanya, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen) and spent 5 days just in Shanghai. I can say that I agree with 100% of what Ken said. It's one of the most organized and developed countries in the world (at least the 5 cities that I visited), and the people are extremely happy, welcoming and nice. You'll be surprised how advanced they are compared to many developed countries. I highly really recommend everyone to visit China - it's an eye opening experience. After I came back, I was explaining how good China is to one of my colleagues and he joked that I'm paid by the Chinese government to say so, lol. Don't get offended Ken, you did a great job. sadly, those comments show how many brainwashed people we have in the world, those who think that are openminded but their not! They can't even trust their eyes!
Yes it is quite interesting that I once told my University schoolmate that China is safer than Australia. All my school mate say no they don't believe it. But I am the only one of them who have lived in both countries. They still wouldn't trust me.
@@thebradelonge5758if u use a foreign sim and roaming service you won’t need VPN, but expensive. I mean the vpn service I use is only like 1 usd a month😂 and a local SIM card is whole lot more convenient. So why not set up a VPN anyway. It’s ok to use a vpn in China, just illegal to set up a vpn for commercial purposes(selling the service to others).
Because the truth is hard for them to fathom. They have been constantly brainwashed. Living in a delusion world. I just feel sorry for them living with such negative energy.
I have lived in Sydney for more than 50 years, So I consider myself as Australian more than Hongkonger. We traveled a bit but China was not on our list, because I spent my first 21 years in Hongkong and was educated under the Colonial British government. I viewed China negatively. I retired in early 2000, followed these group of Hongkong friends to have tours in China. We had the itinerary mapped out ourselves so were’t “invited” guests by Chinese Government. Only then I realised how little did I know about China. I have seen the improvements over the 20 years. The main cities were as good as you described. We also visited schools in remote country side. We have seen some families would not send their daughters to high school because of a few dollars for school fees. We raised money back in Sydney. We carried supplies to remote schools. We made last October tours as our last one to go to remote schools as we are getting old. We will continue to visit China as “tourists”. I want to say to people don’t believe what the Western Media want you to know, go and see it yourself.
I am touched by your Short paragraph which is far insufficient to describe your efforts and hearts. Thank you and wish you a best Christmas and New Year
Unfortunately, a lot of the people do believe what the western medias tell them. The same thing happens in Taiwan. A lot of people believe in the propaganda of the DPP government which itself is a big lier.
Ken: I like your unassuming attitude and your honesty. The fact that you don’t expect people in foreign countries speaking English already set you apart from many western travel RU-vidrs. You don’t have western superiority mindset. Keep your good work! You got a new subscriber.
I think it is only the British and US Americans the only ones who expect people in other countries to speak their own language. I am from Spain and I never expect local people to speak Spanish which is one of the most spoken languages in the world. Still from time to time I find some people who can speak Spanish in the most strange or random places. Common sense says that in a country you should expect people to speak the major local language, and not necessarily other.
people thinking that the chinese government will place actors everywhere around the country to leave a good impression is crazy. this is ridiculous and is totally unlogical and going too far. love your videos and I am sorry to hear about the hate comments you are getting❤
@anglohan5428 Hahahaha, you leave the message under every comment. The truth about China hurts you. You can continue to live in your own dream. In the dream, you will get everything you want.
I lived in Shanghai for 6 months in 2006 for my internship. Best time in my live. Love the city, love the people. They are honest, humble and fair. Never feeld unsafe for one second. Planning to visit Shanghai next year with my wife and kids. Show them an important time of my life. For those interested I am dutch and didn't speak Chinees. You can communicate with most Chinees people. Don't be afraid. Just go, enjoy and live❤
My husband and I visited Shanghai in 2019 omg it’s fantastic fell in love with China, was going back in 2020 but didn’t happen. Now planning our next trip in 2025 to Beijing. Loved your video of Shanghai brought back amazing memories, fabulous food, welcoming and friendly people. An amazing country.
Ken your videos on China are awesome. I enjoy your unbiased and truthful view of the country. Living in the US, we rarely get the truth about China from the media and other sources. I have always questioned the reports from our media so it is not surprising how they misinterpret the true facts. I would love to visit Shanghai and I hope the US will eventually work towards a reciprocal and respectful relationship with China. It would benefit not only the US but with the world as well. I cannot wait for your next travels there. Safe travels my friend! Keep up the good work😊
If you ever have listened to western media, making hateful lies and misinformation about China just to make China look bad, the typical western corporate mainstream media, if you even listened to them, I feel pity for you
The reason why Western politicians and media spread rumors to smear China is that Western countries have always demonized the socialist system, but China's success in implementing the socialist system has made Western countries very embarrassed. Therefore, the Western media is afraid that too many Westerners will know about China's success. Can tell lies to deceive Westerners.
Western politicians and media have always wondered "Why don't the Chinese people rise up against the CCP?" In the eyes of Western politicians and media, the CCP is evil and authoritarian, but in the eyes of the Chinese people, the CCP is a political party that serves the interests of the people wholeheartedly. The Chinese people are very satisfied with the CCP.
I live in Shanghai for about a month now and will work here in the high tech sector for about three years! I also come from Germany and I am so impressed by everything I learn and see every day. Thank you for your fair and unbiased reports, just as you I was firstly impressed by the cleanness and quiteness...I never imagined that the 3rd largest city in the world is so quite!!! I say to all my friends: Come and visit China, Experience it by your own!!!
@george820822 I feel like you can help me out with my question 😊 Is there a particular VPN you’d recommend for a foreigner who will be moving to Shanghai soon with 2 kids?
You praised China in this video, which is not in line with Western "political correctness". Once people realize that your description of China doesn't match what they think China should look like, they have two choices, either they think you're wrong or they admit they themselves are wrong. And for any adults, admitting they're wrong is a hard thing to do, so they'll probably admit in their personal minds that they might be wrong, but still continue to criticize you in the comments saying that you are wrong.
In fact, their elites all know it, but why do they publicize it like this? Because they think their system is excellent. If they reported truthfully, their faith would collapse.
As a Aussie Male, I've been to China. I was pleasantly surprised how much more advanced China is to many of the Western Countries I've been to ... even USA (I could not get over the amount of poverty in USA ... 37 Million living in 3rd World Conditions ... e.g. Street People in Kensington Philadelphia, Tent People in Venice Beach California, Caravan People in Kentucky, Car People in Miami, Sewer People in NYC, etc.)......Have fun.Ken.
Dear, the reason you cannot see any low end populations in Shanghai is merely because the government forced them to leave Shanghai city........ Poor Chinese never have their rights to choose to stay or leave
@@shinchancrayon8420 You are such a stupid guy. Our country gives the poorest people better treatment than ordinary citizens. They are registered separately, have free medical insurance, and free schooling for their children. The state pays them a minimum guaranteed income every month, and there are dedicated officials to provide them with Serve. Let them attend training. Their houses were built with state subsidies. Why are you still wandering like this?
As Chinese, I feel honored and happy after finishing watching this video. You are welcomed again to China. Honestly we don’t have the bad news via the Chinese public media.People here are very safe and happy. Please don’t judge the country without seeing truth and visiting.
Maybe if I come visit China should I visit Xinjiang region and see some Uyghurs in their re-education camps? Maybe we can discuss Civil Servant-Family Pair Up (Chinese: 结对认亲).
If you go to the United States, you can visit countless overcrowded concentration camps and prisons, ask them why the police detained them, and you can try to rescue them, and they will be very grateful to you.@@goutvols103
I was in China for 21 days in October this year. It is a beautiful place to visit. Everything you said is true! I would definitely like to visit again.
I recently went to Xiamen, Fuzhou, Shanghai, Suzhou and Hangzhou. What struck me was how green the cities were. There were mature street trees everywhere providing a bit of shade from the sun. Another thing was the lack of engine noise and gas fumes, due to the ebikes and electric cars, busses and trucks. Finally the sense of safety. No loud, shirtless, intoxicated, aggressive lout screaming for attention. No hoons revving and challenging others to race, actually I did hear loud revving once in Shanghai but that was the only time. The streets were very well lit at night, I'd take evening walks around the street blocks and check out the night markets and mobile food stalls, with no fear or thought of putting my cellphone away like I would've in other parts of the world. But a word of caution...while theft is almost non-existent, there are lady scammers working along Nanjing Rd in Shanghai targetting single male tourists. I suggest you visit Hangzhou or Qingdao next Ken.
As a half German half Chinese living in Germany, I really want to thank you for your vlogs in Shanghai. They were really interesting and your insights are what many foreigners coming to China experience. There are so many beautiful cities and I can really recommend Chingqing, Guangzhou of course Beijing, Xiamen and many more. Just don’t let yourself get downed by these rude, stupid and unthoughtful comments. Thankfully, many comments here actually know their stuff and are very motivating, which is very nice to see.
All of the hate and vicious attacks that Ken is getting are coming from the racist bigots that feared China is surpassing the US in every way! That’s why they use the propaganda talking points of their country to attack Ken and other people that speak the truth about China - because they know the truth that Ken shares about China is shattering their lies and propaganda! Did you know the US spends over $90 billion a year on spreading lies and propaganda against China, Russia, and Iran? The vast majority of that $90.3 billion is spent on spreading propaganda and lies against China! The US has gone as far as controlling the news stations of other countries to spread lies about China! So you could only imagine the length the US goes to to spread lies about China in its own news stations, newspapers, magazines, social media sites, movies, radio stations, bloggers, books, etc! African writers were paid $1000 a piece if they could write a good negative story about China! This is how vicious and looney the falling evil empire has become!
I visited HK, Guangzhou and Shanghai back in October. I flew into HK, took the high speed rail into GZ and stayed there for 5 days. After, i took the HSR again and went to Shanghai for 7 days. After Shanghai, I took the HSR to HK. I had been planning this trip for about 3 years and at first, it was mainly to SH because I went there many years ago and last time I went, i did not have a good experience because I got sick. Since that time, whenever someone brought up Shanghai, I would be reminded of that negative experience. It was only recently that i watched other travel vloggers going to China and noticed that a lot had changed....for the better! Good food, safe environment and great infrastructure. In my SH trip, I also went to Zhujiajiao but I felt I didn't go as thorough as you did. I was born in HK and moved to Canada many years ago so I am very aware of the stereotypes that HKers have about the mainland. It's great that you went to see all this in person because it's really eye opening.
If u are interested in visiting a coastal city in china, I would highly recommend Qingdao( also spelled as Tsingtao). It’s a very beautiful and clean coastal city and famous for beers and seafood. By the way it was colonized by Germany during the First World War. So there are also many German buildings from that time in this city.
Thank you for your positive comments in China. As a HK people (chinese) I can tell that the China improved their living standard and civilizations so fast. And I also very appreciate their improvement and proud of our country. And I also welcome you to visit HK again.
HK Is a nice city .i've been there five yrs ago and had a great time wandering through streets and corners of it. really do wish I could come back again if I have the chance coz I am sooo busy with my work chores
Ken always shows us one of the most important things while traveling to new places-an open mind. Why not go to explore and figure out all the questions yourself instead of holding that stereotype forever.
Thank you Ken for being honest and for telling us your true experience in China. No country is perfect but it is good to know that you had a good experience in China which unfortunately will disappoint a lot of western people who have been spreading negative narrative all things China. The video coming from your especially with your standing as a well known unbiased and honest vblogger traveler must have embarrassed these China haters and they must be kicking themselves as they can't exactly admit that they are wrong. I am looking forward to your next video.

I was in Shanghai two months ago,his video is exactly what I have experienced , as soon as the news on free visa is announced, I bought my flight to Kunming , Yunan in January 2024.
I’m sorry you received negative comments. I am going to Shanghai soon and your video was extremely informative and helpful. Thank you for sharing your experiences!
People shouldn't be deterred from traveling because of language barriers. I've been to places where very little English is spoken. Russia is probably the most challenging. But humans no matter who they are have common ways of communicating through gestures, facial expressions, etc. And nowadays, we have translation apps on our phones
Yes western media has totally destroyed the image of China but we Asians know better. Best to visit China again in January but avoid the Chinese New Year period in early February. For those who are afraid to travel alone due to language barriers, you can take the many day tours that is conducted in English. Great China videos Ken and we hope to see more.
I believe you were genuine about everything you've shown and so far, seeing a visit to china through your experiences, was the best so far. Very well done.
It is so refreshing to hear your comments of your honest impressions of Shanghai after visited the city. Your vlog of Shanghai is so refreshing to watch and showed how much more progress Shanghai or China in general has become in comparison with what it was in 2017 when I first visited city. I can’t wait to go back to China soon.
Thank you, Ken. I am a Chinese. I have traveled many countries in the world, and my passport is full of visas. Thank you for letting the world see real China. I hope you can come to China again. I am in Shenzhen. If you come to Shenzhen, I will take you to visit the youngest and fastest-growing city in China. Thank you.
Pls tell us how covid got started in Wuhan. My uncle died from it, we owed him an explanation. Also why the Chinese gov always silences those who questioned about the origin of covid?
Thank you for telling the truth, the problems I always encounter is westerner that never go to China always the one saying the bad thing towards China, not to mention someone is not always open minded and respectful as you. Idk why the people that usually never going there always the one that so vocal about hatred towards China City. Again thank you for telling the truth 🙏
Your comments are really true for China. I'm a Chinese students studying in Poland. Firstly, China is very very safe, you don' need to worry about your safety although in midnight. And also, the common price of the goods the hotels is lower than western country,.In fact, shanghai is the most expensive city in mainland of China. For me, last year I went to a city for a trip, the total costs just about 1000yuan(150dollar without planes) for 3 days. Secondly, I would to recommend some beautiful city you can choose. Except Beijing and Shanghai, the south of china have Guangzhou, a modern large city in china, Kunming, a beautiful city with good view and many cheap fruits. The middle of China, you can go to Xi'an, a historical city with many ancient viewings. The north of China, Harbin is a good choice, it is so cold and you can see many different landscapes if you live in south. If you want to see the ocean, you can go to Qingdao, a city live in the mountain and sea. All of the city above have the subway, so the transportation is so convenient. If everyone have any question about China, you can contact with me. Finally, WELCOME TO CHINA!!!
I’m glad that you enjoyed your time in China and is planning on visiting again. If you’re planning to visit again early next year, it’s best to avoid the Chinese New year holiday from the end of January to mid February. During the Chinese New Year holiday there will be crowds everywhere in China and railway/flights will be running at full capacity since many people will be travelling. And a tip if you plan to visit Beijing, be aware that many tourist attractions will be closed on certain days of the week and may require appointment in advance so you might want to do some research and plan ahead. Apart from Beijing and Shenzhen, some South western cities in China are also worth visiting, Chengdu and Chongqing for example are famous for their hot foods and hotpots.
hi, Ken, after watching several of your recent trip videos to Asia since last week, I decided to subscribe. The reason is very simple which is that you are quite objective about your visit and your true feelings. Not biased nor prejudiced or influenced by western media. I like the way very much you try to talk and interact with the local people wherever you visit, which is also different from many other visit videos in which most travelers are doing either monologue or are afraid of communicating with the locals due to language barrier. Please keep on doing this which will bring your video more insightful than others. By the way, I am a Chinese working and living in France and already travel to most of countries in the world, including all the places in your video. So I could easily judge and understand what you are talking about. As a Chinese living in the west most of the time in the past two decades (but I return to china to see family members every year and know the fast development of China very well), I fully understand how biased, negative and sometimes ridiculous the western media could be in particular when they report on China. Anyway the West must remember that deliberately demeaning China will never help the West to become better.
thank you for your honest opinions. China is so vast that there are endless places you can visit. Winter is the best time to explore china's southern coast and visit cities like Xiamen, Shenzhen and Guangzhou, or head north to experience the extreme cold. Yunnan province (especially Lijiang and Dali) is also a great place to see because of the warm climate there. When it gets warmer, you can start visiting the inland areas such as Chengdu, Chongqin, Beijing
Thanks Ken. I really enjoyed watching the series of videos covering your entire Shanghai trip. I will be visiting Shanghai and Beijing next month. I really like the honest and clear descriptions in those videos. Dont worry what other viewers said about your videos. We believe there are many other viewers who will benefit immensely from your meticulous observation and honest reporting. Keep it up.
Hi Ken, I really suggest checking out Yunnan Province. It might not be the wealthiest place, but it's incredibly rich in ethnic diversity and natural wonders, with everything from snowy peaks to lush tropical areas. Getting around is easy thanks to the well-developed high-speed train network. Just a tip: try to avoird the super touristy streets. Yunnan is a vibrant mix of different landscapes, species, and cultural experiences - truly must go
I live in Shanghai. Really glad to hear that you have had a wonderful trip in Shanghai. Beijing is a good option, but I strongly recommend you to go to Xi'an. I am not sure if you like to explore Chinese ancient history. It is a three-hour flight from Shanghai. Xi'an used to be the capital city of 13 ancient dynasties in Chinese history. It is a very old city, and you will find many ancient buildings there, as well as traditional Chinese food like dumplings (饺子), noodles (Biang Biang 面), and Chinese hamburgers (肉夹馍) that you can’t miss. They are all very tasty. I believe you’ll like it. Wish you have a fun trip in China😃
Good video thanks 🙏 I have a similar view of China as you I love China. I’m a Canadian and lived and taught there from 2009 to 2016. Like everywhere 90% of the people are good and decent. It’s sad that so many people in the west have a negative distorted view of China. Of course they haven’t been there. Some of my favourite cities are Shanghai, Hong Kong, Hangzhou and Guangzhou. The big cities are well organized and you’ll find some people speak English. Get out of the big cities and 99% of the people have no English. Thank goodness for google translate. I recommend you take trains to travel. The train system is excellent. Lots of high speed trains. And for long distance I liked to take sleeper trains. I look forward to seeing more videos I also want to go back to travel and see friends. I was in Shanghai in May. It was great to be back. I’m looking forward to going back again
Really enjoyed this Q&A video. Very impressed with how you addressed the negative comments and did not let it sway your honest opinions/impressions of China.
I’m glad that some foreign visitors speak truths of China after their trips. As a Chinese i definitely know there are still some gaps between us and developed countries like Japan and Singapore, but i can say China is way better than some people might think. Thanks for your sharing of your trip!!
Thank you Ken for being so open and objective about what you have seen in China. Also cheers for your bravery to share your true thoughts despite of all the negative and insulting comments. Nice job Ken!!
Unbelievable how some people bad mouthed you for visiting, I have subscribed for many years and always found your videos honest and open, regarding anyone who has unsubscribed, it's their loss, you are better without such people. My wife's family are from a southern Island of China, Hainan and went to Sarawak Malaysia 3 and 4 generations ago.
People who have not been to China (or anywhere) personally should NOT be commenting negatively about that country. Open your eyes people and experience the world! Peace and love. Great Q & A Ken.
Pls tell us how covid got started in Wuhan. My uncle died from it, we owed him an explanation. Also why the Chinese gov always silences those who questioned about the origin of covid?
@@OMGThisIsAwesome In September 2019, a large-scale influenza occurred in the United States, and the World Military Games was held in Wuhan on October 18, 2019. After that, the COVID-19 epidemic occurred in Wuhan. On March 11, 1918, at the Finston barracks in Kansas, a private soldier complained to the nurse that he had a cold, sore throat, a headache and sore muscles. This is the earliest case on record and is also known as the first patient of Spanish flu. This flu first appeared in the United States but is called Spanish flu. Why is it called Spanish flu? Because Spain valued the virus, it did not hide and reported the "flu".
I came first time (here at the moment) and my trip consists of Shanghai, Chongqing, and Chengdu. My favorite was Chongqing. I was BLOWN AWAY. Oozes charm and so unique. Other 2 are fine and enjoy them. But Chongqing is sadly an unknown to the Western World and find many would love this visually and cultuarlly stunning city. Only issue is beware the spicy food if that is not your thing, but who comes to Sichuan Province if you arent down for the spocy food including hotpot!
Many thanks Ken for your honest opinion....Unfortunately in this world, people who do not travel far and wide are extremely negative and bias or even racist towards other non Western countries... Look at the homelessness in the West...Very sad indeed. Keep up your good honest work. Stay safe, healthy & prosperous...Australia
That was a great short series in China Ken. Hopefully you'll be back in the future to show us more, the country is large so surely there is plenty more to see.
As a Shanghai local resident, let me tell some ways of mitigating language barrier if you are gonna talk with someone else in English when traveling around China. Quite a lot of office workers in big cities are well educated in English particularly aged 30 - 40 as they have not only studied reading and listening at college but also practiced talking in English at work. I watched your Shanghai trip videos, most of the Chinese people you met on street or at restaurants were not office workers but service staff or local tourists. In short, try to identify office workers and you can easily communicate with in English. Typical office workers worldwide basically have a few characteristics in common, e.g. wearing shirts, suits, carrying laptop bags, etc. And finally, welcome you to visit Shanghai again in next Jan. Good luck!
I'm from Nanjing, used to live in England and Sweden but recently am living in Suzhou. I think both Beijing and Shenzhen are fine but they're just similar Mega cities like Shanghai. If you truly want to explore the uniqueness of China, other cities might give you a more surprising experience. For travelling purposes, I think Yunnan is one of the best options because of its beauty and weather; Sichuan is also good, especially for visiting pandas. Guiling is also good because the landform is very unique. If you're a city boy, I think Chongqing is super cyberpunk. Many cities like Xi'an, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Beijing, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and Suzhou are worth visiting. Haha too many options, maybe you can just follow your heart and randomly choose several places.
I had the chance to live in Shanghai for 2 years, i have moved to Shanghai due to my job and i can sincerely say that Shanghai is the most beuatiful and most advance city in the world in term of technology. Shanghay is the best place in the world and it´s an amazing place to live, it´s the city of contrast, technology and traditions.
Shanghai currently has 12 world records. 1. The longest subway in the world is 831 kilometers in Shanghai. 2. The world’s largest transportation hub is in Shanghai. 3. The world’s largest planetarium is in Shanghai. 4. Shanghai has the world’s largest indoor skating rink. 5. Shanghai has the world’s lowest hotel, the Shenkeng Hotel, which is underwater. 80 meters 6. The world’s largest underground music theater Shanghai Cultural Plaza 7. The world’s largest tunnel combination project Shanghai Yangtze River Tunnel Bridge 8. The world’s largest steel arch bridge Shanghai Lupu Bridge 9. The world’s most expensive F1 track Shanghai International Circuit 10. The world The largest extreme sports park, New Jiangwan City SMP 11. The most Michelin restaurants in the world are in Shanghai, a total of 129. 12. The city with the most coffee shops in the world is Shanghai, with 6913 coffee shops in Shanghai.
@anglohan5428 Hahahaha, you leave the message under every comment. The truth about China hurts you. You can continue to live in your own dream. In the dream, you will get everything you want.
I greatly appreciate your unbiased perspective on everything here in China. I am a native of Sichuan Province, born and raised in Chengdu city, so Chengdu is my first recommendation. It is the home town of pandas🐼. You can see them at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, and taste the local Sichuan cuisine, which is arguably the most famous. The nearby scenery can also be breathtaking, like Jiuzhaigou and Mount Emei. Chongqing, a nearby megacity, is famous for its unique topography and cyberpunk ambiance at night. Spicy 🌶️ hotpot is also immensely popular throughout the country. My second recommendation is the Shenzhen-Guangzhou-Shunde area. Shenzhen is arguably the most modern city in China, similar to Shanghai. You can witness the spectacular light show at Lianhua Mountain. It's very convenient to reach Shenzhen if you land in Hong Kong, and from there, you can take a fast train to Guangzhou in just one hour. Guangzhou has a long history as a marine trade center of China. Both Guangzhou and Shunde offer a variety of delicious foods that you shouldn't miss. I hope you enjoy your next trip to China; I'm looking forward to seeing your next episode on your China adventure!
Special reminder: some tourist attractions in Beijing need to be booked 1-2 days in advance through mobile phone software. Because there are too many people, there are restrictions on the number of people entering every day. This is not only true for foreigners, but also for Chinese and Beijingers.
Hi,Ken. I’m a Chinese. I come from Xi’an of China and live in Singapore. I subscribe your channel because that I watched your video in Douyin which you had visited in Shanghai. And I felt your video is interest with your faster and fluent speaking😂. So I searched your channel on RU-vid immediately. Because I want to know how’s your travel will be when you didn’t make a trip plan and learned some experience from you. But after I watched some of your travel videos in Shanghai. I’m so appreciative that how big and a meaningful things that you did. Thank you for using your lens to record the real life and situations in Shanghai of China, while showing them to friends around the world. It also allows those who have not traveled to China to understand the actual development of China. Thank you very much for responding to the questions and comments in the comments from an objective, rational and factual perspective. Maybe everyone will still maintain their stereotyped and bad impression of China. But I believe that all real situations need to be experienced and felt by yourself, seeing with your own eyes instead of listening with your ears, just like what you are doing now. I will continue to follow your channel and videos. Doing good deeds without asking for reward. Thanks.❤👍🏻
Recommendations for city choice: You can very roughly split China into different areas with key cities, each with slightly different culture: Northeastern China (Cold snowy area, e.g. Harbin), Southeastern China(River Delta with many rivers and lakes e.g. Nanjing, Hangzhou, Shanghai) , Southwest China (Mountains, rivers, and forests, e.g. Chengdu, Chongqing) , Middle Area (Kinda dry area? Shanxi province) , West China (Tibet), Northwest China (Xingjiang), South China(Tropical, e.g. Guangzhou, Shenzhen), Southwest China( Tropical but also some high altitude area, e.g. Kunming, Guilin, Dali[super beautiful]). 1. if you want to go urban and popular sites: Major cities like Beijing, Shenzhen, Chongqing, Guangzhou. 2. If you like adventure in remote areas: Tibet and Xinjiang (Not sure about regulation on foreigners but definitely would be mind-blowing beautiful experience.)
As a Chinese I honestly appreciate your willingness to show the real China to the world, China is not a perfect country but the world can't have a perfect country either We still have shortcomings but we have been trying to change and improve in recent decades. But China has always been at a disadvantage in the war of public opinion, the world's mainstream media is basically controlled by the West more to create rumors to smear China, which leads to a lot of European and American friends do not understand how the real China, we also hope that more and more friends in the world can put aside the preconceived notions of the world to come to China to experience this experience, this experience is absolutely very good, and I would very much welcome Ken to come back to China again!
Go watch & subscribe to "Little Chinese Everywhere", she's from China & shoot amazing & outstanding videos of china, especially the Unseen China! It's like a documentary!!!
Good that you enjoyed China, it's very interesting country. My recommendation for which cities to visit in China, other than typical Shanghai, Beijing & Hong Kong. While going to Hong Kong could go Shenzhen, Guangzhou. Try to go the old capital cities - like Hangzhou, Xi An or coastal city like Qingdao (place they made beer, previous German concession) or Xiamen (opposite Taiwan) or Harbin (Russia border). You will enjoy these places.
I feel so sorry that you had received so many nagative commets just becuz of traveling in china, and I am so appreciate you have your own honest thought ,anyway welcom to china! best wishes my friend.❤❤
Thank you so much for not being affected by the negative comments and for being willing to tell your true feelings about your trip to China❤❤❤I'll always support your channel.
Ken you are a very open minded person which is very good. Guys you cant expect every countries in the world to speak english but if you are like Ken you can go to all countries.Well done Ken. Good job sharing your experience ❤❤❤
Hi Ken, really impressed watching your China touring videos for straight 2 hours! As a southern Chinese growing up in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province and an international student been in the US for 10 years now, I really want to say thank you, firstly, for showing an authentic Shanghai experience with us. Also, I'd love you to go visit Shenzhen for several reasons! Most importantly, for most foreigners I have met, their impressions about China are mostly about northern cities like Beijing since it's the capital, and Shanghai (Northern enough to a pretty southern Chinese citizen). In my own opinion, I have traveled and interned in Shanghai, and have also been to Beijing, to me these two cities are alike in many aspects. However, for Shenzhen, though, I experience a totally different vibe. Maybe it's because that's a young city (you don't really see a lot of old people living there as locals) with only 40 year-ish history. Also, to me the culture in Shenzhen is a bit different both stems from being a southern city, and being young and largely influenced by Hongkong and Macau (but not the same). The views of the city, the streets, (sorry for saying this but the air, much fresher lol), are also different than what you would find in Shanghai and Beijing. Anyways, wish you all the best and would love to see your Shenzhen touring videos!
Here's a small suggestion for you. If you want to go to Beijing, you need to make an appointment one day in advance for some famous attractions because there is a large population of tourists in Beijing. In order to control the number of tourists and provide a better experience, these attractions have taken this measure.
Please do come to Xinjiang next Jun and jul. Xinjiang is super beautiful and safe. ❤❤❤❤ you’ll be surprised how western media was misleading people about Xinjiang. People in Xinjiang are super nice and Welcoming, food is amazing, and super beautiful scenery. A treasure place!!!❤❤❤
I didn't see any of the negative comments you mentioned.Probably need to scroll down further. I started following two guys that built a big subscriber base about their experiences in China. That was around 2015 when I visited China for the first time. In those days they posted useful information for people interested in China but at some point they became cynical and very critical about China. The scary part is how they fed into that hysteria and hate of China propagated by the media and political interests. They even posted many videos about other foreigners acting as shills for the Chinese government and I guess those people who have accused you of this are probably ardent followers of their channels. I won't even mention their channels because they really don't rate mentioning. They found a business model that suited them but it's at the expense of slandering a beautiful country and it's people. You really have portrayed China the way I have seen and experienced it. 👍
I block negative comments as I don't want to see people in my comments who insult me. Thats why you don't see them unless I haven't seen the comment myself
Yes those guys apparently got caught faking their teaching credentials in China and have turned into anti China haters More views and more subscribers if you look for like minded folks and confirmation bias
Nice video. Good to see a positive video of a real life experience in Shanghai. I have been here 16 years with no plans to leave at the moment. Life is excellent here. Some friends left Shanghai during the pandemic, but have returned, why, life is so good here.
Hi Ken, a wonderful video and very good information for your trip to China. Please continue with your good work. And don't let negative vibes or comments. Thank you !!! 🙏🙌
If you plan to go to China during the winter, plz go either the southest or the northest places!! Hai nan or Dongbei. In winter Harbin will have a huge ice park, it is amazing. Also the historical places in the Harbin.
Since the western medias still spreading lies about xingjiang, i think u should visiting xingjiang next, to see for yourself. It's very different from other parts of China, but it's a very hot travel destination with awesome foods.
Thanks for all the information Ken. Yes it's disappointing how we in Europe are influenced by western media about China. I won't suggest a city for your next trip, but a youtube channel which may be useful for you. The channel is called "little chinese everywhere", her name is Yan and it's in english. It's more about the country side, many hidden gems, and there are a lot of information about food, hotels and so on. It's once a week on Saturdays. I'm sure you'll like it. Stay positive!
Hi Ken, thank you very much for your objective description of China in the video. As a Chinese person, when I first went to live abroad, I couldn’t understand why everyone had such a negative impression of China. I often tried to be very friendly, but I was frequently met with discrimination, which was quite upsetting. Later, I realized that the China they perceived and the China I had lived in for so many years were different, and this is something beyond my control. I’ve worked in Shanghai for almost two years, and the people living here are very competent and peaceful. This is also my favorite city in China as a Chinese person. In conclusion, you’re always welcome to visit China again!
I agree with you 100%. Some people choose to show only negative stuff about China, like construction failures, food poisoning, air pollution, kidnapping etc., just to make China look bad. I think it's nice that we have people like you who can openly say that there positive things in China as well. Thank you, Bro.
If only they SHOW negative stuff about China. In many of the cases they MAKE UP negative stuff. As a Chinese I'm anti CCP myself, but those haters are undermining our course.
I'm Chinese, living in EU, the problem exists, not need to hide, but most important is to recognized and solve it. But the problem is not everywhere(either that many), and shouldn't be the only topic that focus the all attention of the audience. What I perceive is that the view towards China in Europe is way too negative than its reality, both from the media and also the mass. And almost never show anything positive about the country, which is disapproving, coz as a citizen from a catching-up country, in general, we admired the developed countries and always try to lean from them... So here are huge deviation of opinions from each side. Anyway, if anyone is curious about china, just pay a visit. Now days, as far as I know, few European countries have the visa exemption to there.
So much haters out there. I guess if they unfollowed you, that may not be the worst thing for you. Leaving open minded ppl in your circle. You got my subscription! Keep on going Ken!
Thank you for sharing your first-hand experience and honest honest in Shanghai! I found it very interesting and insightful. Unfortunately, the Western media has been crazy about criticizing China in recent years. I live in the UK, and the local media, including the BBC, are full of negative news about China, and any imperfections will be exaggerated and demonized to the extreme. Most people know nothing about China and are only influenced by the media. I suggest that everyone ignore what the media says, and abandon any prejudices, but just visit the country with an open mind, see and feel everything themselves, and then form their own opinion, just as you are doing!
Hi Ken, thanks for sharing your video in Shanghai where it's my hometown. If you would like to revisit China again. You may like to go Bejing, Shenzhen, Hanzhou, Chongqing, a lot of attractive places to go. Hope you enjoy the trip. By the way, I am planning to go back to Shanghai too during Chinese New Year which is early February.
If your next trip to China is still in winter months and you can withstand really cold temperatures, i recommend visiting Harbin in the northeast and check out its ice festival. Southern China on the other hand will be very nice and cool to travel since summer in southern China i find it a little bit too hot. You can check out of course Guilin and surrounding areas, the province of Guizhou, or the poorest province in China as they call it, and see if it's really that poor. Check out Yunnan as well, its popular cities like Dali, Kunming, etc. China is huge and you have 15 days to go around; so pick your cities close together to avoid long distance travel.
Beijing is the second city you must vist, the great wall and the forbidden city (remember to book the ticket at least one day in advance) is the places you must visit and the local food of Beijing, look forward to seeing you visit China again, Ken!!😉
If you want to see the great wall, go to Mutianyu Great Wall, ride the public bus to rural city and then by taxi, it is very cheap. I did that 1 time, i can not speak mandarin also, and that was a super experience 😂😂😂, the bus driver told me the bus ticket is free because i forgot (and dont know) how to buy the ticket and the bus is on the highway already 😂😂😂 I was scare they will leave me on the middle of highway, but they are nice and good and let me ride to the rural near Mutianyu.
@@KenAbroad I am Chinese and I do not recommend you to visit Beijing in winter, it will be very cold. You can go to Guangzhou, Shenzhen or Hangzhou, Chongqing, there are so many cities in China that you can go to.
I have followed your Channel since you started it Ken , I don't normally comment but this backlash you are getting for visiting China prompted me . I also travel around Thailand and Asia and I can tell you that the negative comments you are getting are armchair tourists probably never been anywhere. You are better not to react to it and continue with the great content you have been giving us for a few years . Looking forward to your next video best wishes, Foxy from the UK . 👍
Hey - remember Marco Polo who actually WENT to China, stayed there for several years and when he came back to Italy, carrying several "souvenirs" such as Chinese porcelain and treasures, wrote of his experiences there, extolling the fantastic magnificence of the Chinese Imperial Court under the Mongol Kublai Khan. China was already at that time, well advanced of the West - gunpowder, silks (while the West was still clothed in animal skins), paper money, the navigation compass, earthquake detection mechanism, deep well drilling below 50 feet, toothbrushes and soap, earthquake proof building, architecture modeling, and more. Guess what? His fellow Venetians from his city of Venice who have NEVER stepped out of Italy, let alone even visited Rome, criticized HIM for "making up fairytales". How can any non-Christian people be more advanced in civilization and have a progressive society? And those were the days when China had not even heard of the word, "communism" and was a country engaged in free trade along the Old Silk Road. Racism? Perhaps. Xenophobia. Most probably. Superiority complex? For sure. Narrow mindedness? Most certainly. If there were sceptics back then, 400 years ago, they certainly have not died out and lives on today. No one can ever possibly live a better life than us. That's their way of thinking and therefore, are willing to submit themselves to the propaganda of the state and be brainwashed by their compliant media - both by the "news" and the entertainment industry.
Next time you come over for a visit, consider taking a trip to the Pearl River Estuary. From Shenzhen, go to Dongguan, Guangzhou, and Foshan Shunde. Containing two big first-tier cities with second-tier emerging cities next to them. Guangdong culture is quite different from the Shanghai side, I believe it should be very interesting!
I am planning to take my whole family to visit Shanghai so that they don’t get the western media’s views of China. They need to know the truth that Shanghai is a modern, advanced and safe city. Many big cities in North America just can’t compare!
You will be surprised. Honestly the Apps Chinese people using not using friendly to foreigners. But once you get used to them, the life can be a big difference. Another wold! I am a Chinese and live in London for more than 20 years. I went back to my home town, Beijing last months. After a couple of days puzzling with the apps, I found it is so easy to do everything. Different world! Make sure your card is bundled with WeChat and that is it. Start enjoy your life in China. If you got VPN before go to China, you are living in both worlds. Sorry to say that but it is true.
I recommend you visit Beijing from February 9th to 24th, because this period is the traditional Chinese festivals Spring Festival and Lantern Festival. As one of the oldest cities in China, spending a Chinese Spring Festival in Beijing will definitely leave you with a lot of memories. Good memories. Of course, since the Spring Festival is a public holiday, it is expected that there will be quite a lot of tourists, and you need to plan your route and accommodation in advance, otherwise you may experience sleeping on the streets, which I don’t think you will like hahh
Beijing is a good option for February, but on the contrary, like all the other Chinese megacities, Beijing is quite "empty" during the Spring Festival, with less traffic, less crowds, since a lot of people goes back to their hometowns and only locals stay in Beijing.
Welcome to China again, Ken! I'd suggest you to explore more places in China, China is big. For example, you can go: "Inner Mongolia", "Xinjiang", "Xi an", "Yunnan Province", "Chong qin"
Do you know how big are Xinjiang and Inner Mongolia? It is better to recommend cities rather than provinces. like: Beijing/Xi'an/Chengdu/Chongqin/nanjing/Urumqi/Kunming/Changsha/Xia'men/Guangzhou/Hangzhou.....
Great videos. Love your content. Considering you will be visiting China in January or February, I would suggest not to go to northern China cause it will be very cold and weather can be unpredictable if you want to go outside and explore. In Southern China, there are cities like Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Xiamen, Yangshuo, Kunming, Guilin, Dali. Also, the national holiday Chinese New year Falls on February 10th in 2024. Highly recommend not to visit China around that period cause it the time when most Chinese will be traveling to their homes or to vacation destinations and it can be chaotic sometimes, unless you want to film something different for your content. Chinese New Year is definitely interesting and worth to experience it for its vibe but it can add more stress especially you are traveling alone. Best luck to your future trip to China. Welcome back!
I think you can go to Beijing next, then Guangzhou, Shenzhen and HK (you can properly cross the border this time), perhaps add Zhuhai and Macau. After that Guilin, Kunming and Yunnan province
