Dallas has been an up and coming city for a few years now. There are great opportunities here and lots to do. However there are some things you should definitely be aware of before moving here. If you're considering a move to Dallas, I am happy to answer any questions!

If you are black and moving to Dallas and want to live around people who look like you check out southern Dallas. There are three majority black suburbs there. Lancaster, Desoto and Cedar Hill TX. Multi million dollar communities and nice regular suburban communities.

6:00 Dallas native checking in. Very good, and very fair video. Just as an FYI......in terms of you being shocked that Dallas has wealthy areas........Dallas has way more money than Philadelphia.....and that was told to me by a Philly transplant that moved here 10 years ago. Its almost impossible to be unemployed here in Dallas. You are right. Dallas is located in the Great Plains....not that much natural beauty. People come here to make money and get rich.

Dallas and Texas is more laid back and not hustle and bustle. Plano and Frisco are cities where you have shopping and bars close to each other but not walking distance. People here like to get out and move around and don’t care that things aren’t very close to each other……also most people don’t want night life where they live. If you want nature then parks and lakes are your only option. I’m surprised you were surprised of super wealth neighborhoods considering the GDP of the Dallas area and Texas which are very high. Try to meet people in a different area because it does make a difference. You forgot one big advantage about living in Dallas and Texas…..no state tax.

I move to Dallas from California two and half years ago and I love it!! I would say you have to get out alittle more and keep exploring there's so much to do out here in dallas and TX I'll say couple things I consider before moving out here 1> Austin has a lot homeless people and not as many black people as Houston or Dallas 2> The only thing about Houston that worries me is when hurricanes season rolls around and can hit the city and flood it🤔 3> Dallas is growing very fast and there's a lot cool nee spots popping up town town every day!! But the overall vibe is very cool and nice out here!! Looking to buy home by end next year when hopefully interest rates go down and housing market cools down alittle.

One thing important to me are demographics which you went in depth on. Weather is another... cost, so are spots to hang out and in general what it would be like there everyday and things that affect everyday life. As im looking at Texas it has to be between dallas and houston maybe some suburb area in between where you can get the best of both worlds that would appease moving from a big city like LA.. not that it has to be here. Thanks again!

Commenting in 2024, I appreciate your video and how detailed you presented the information. I will have to disagree about lifestyle a bit. I am from Florida; Miami ,Florida to be exact and I lived in Dallas for four months (residency). I loved the lifestyle there. I lived off Preston & Alpha Road near the Galleria and there was plenty of outdoorsy places to go for walking, biking, and skating. Some places were only 5-10 minutes away and family oriented. There was so many other locations (to your point) that was 15-20 minutes but to me it was well worth it on days I had free time. Coming from Miami, everything (and everyone) is on top of each other so my time in Dallas was amazing. I think regardless of where you move, you have to be intentional to live your life the way you want. If you had something in one city, it won't be the exact same in the next (and that's okay). Your friends had a point about having to go out of your way. You have to be intentional otherwise you'll continue to have an unpleasant experience (and this is coming from someone who/is struggled with chronic depression and anxiety). Anyways, I figured I make a comment for any new comers, I understand that everyone is entailed to their own opinion/experience. I am planning to make my return to Dallas long term.

North Dallas is really nice if you’re looking for a town with shopping & living. Very diverse white, middle class blacks, & ofc Hispanics. I’ve lived here for 7 years coming from Denver Co. Lots of opportunities. I like Arlington too. Uptown, deep elum etc are more for the youngins that want to party. I can’t stand that the don’t have as much nature which sucks.

Anais, very nice video, but it will take you a long time to understand DFW. Downtown Dallas has underground tunnels with shopping malls / centers and restaurants to protect people against the heat at lunch time. Ask someone to show you the underground areas. Dallas is a business place with tons of headquarters, great suburbs where people can work. Philadelphia is more of an old, depressing place with a lot of drunks. The facts are that when the manufacturing jobs fled Philadelphia decades ago, they left behind an underclass of unemployed people. As a result, morale suffered, and many of these people turned to drugs and alcohol as coping mechanisms LOL.

Check out some of the areas mentioned . Addison, Old Downtown McKinney, Also Downtown Grapevine, Legacy West & East which is in Plano. And of course Frisco which has the Star. Downtown Dallas is getting ready for several Multi-Billion Dollar Developments including the Trinity River Project. You should get out and about a little more. It seems that you have mostly been in the center of the city. Everywhere has sidewalks, access to public transportation, dining. shopping. There are hills with nature trails, greenery, lakes, etc all over. They aren’t in Downtown, but they are all driveable.

Great recap.... Dallas has been "uppity" since forever... it's not just starting to get uppity - it's the vibe since the last century or longer. Grew up in north Texas (denton) lived there 1967-2008 - uppity is just the way it is. That's why Austin and Houston are so much better. But, nothing beats the Hudson Valley :-)

13:18 absolutely this 💯 percent. DFW is built up upon every inch and they continue to pour concrete over everything at a rapid pace. Are there trees here ? Yes. There aren’t that many open forested areas. Here and there you will find parks , but they aren’t very big and not very pretty. You don’t get large swaths of uninterrupted nature. That makes me sad. All of the shopping and restaurants available doesn’t make up for the lack of open natural areas.

Hi! I want to clarify by saying that there are definitely walkable neighborhoods in Dallas. There are all of those things you mentioned above, just not in proximity to each other unless you live in Uptown, Greenville, or more upscale areas. What I mean is that walking is not convenient as Dallas spreads out wide, so unlike Boston or NYC/Philly where you can most likely get errands done in one day all over the city on foot or via subway, here you will 100% need a car. Good luck!

What would you say is the best city in Texas for good walking and outdoorsy stuff? Austin?
@back2relaxed
@back2relaxed Год назад
Dallas and Austin are totally walkable. DFW is a sprawling metroplex. So you will need to research cities and neighborhoods that offer what you are looking for. Texas is not like older East Coast cities that are completely built around downtown areas. The cities are newer and have spread out in every direction. Each area has different attributes. So moving to downtown May not be a best fit for everyone. There is lots to do in Austin and Dallas and Fort Worth’s downtown. Also San Antonio. Public transportation is by far superior in DFW. But there are tons of lakes, nature trails, hilly areas, parks, bike lanes, etc in DFW. Is a car ideal, most definitely. It’s the South!
@j.r.6094
@j.r.6094 6 месяцев назад
Any city on the east coast will ALWAYS have more walkable cities. Those cities are extremely old and were built like that. Also its extremely hot here. You're not walking in the heat during the summer up and down the street unless you're ready to pass out

Dallas used to be an engineering town back in the 1950s and 1960s. Some important inventions were invented in Richardson and Irving, and the patents created wealth and jobs. This drew in people from beautiful places where there were no jobs for them. The real solution is to create jobs in the beautiful places.
