MY IB HL VISUAL ARTS PORTFOLIO (I got a 6) + my tips & advice 🍒

I understand you.. we were the first cohort to transit to the IB from Alevels in our school and most of the teachers did not have previous experience with the IB including my art teacher. But thankfully he was suuuuper helpful but I also had to dig up as many examples as I can and make the best out of the works I had. It’s not impossible to score high in rough circumstances!

don’t be scared!! my experience with doing my process was honestly good!!! i will tell you this though, IB HL Visual Arts is extremely time consuming and requires you to be on top of everything. make sure you’re documenting everything you’re doing because when you come down to doing your IA’s, which is your Comp. Study and Process Portfolio, you will need as much detail to get the highest marks possible. despite it being sooooo demanding in regards to information and time, i found doing my process portfolio sooo enjoyable because you’re able to see everything you have done in the past 2 years all come down into a limited amount slides and it feels refreshing and satisfying. btw, your process portfolio doesn’t require you to show the process of all the pieces you have done, it only requires 3 artworks to shown. and you don’t necessarily have to be amazing at writing, as long as you get your point across and are able to explain your thinking, you’re good!!! IB tries to not count against you if you’re not the best at writing, unless if you’re in a group 1 course

Sorry for the late reply!! Honestly before the IB, I had such a strong mindset that in order to be good at art, you need to be good at drawing too. But I realized art is so much more than just drawing. For the past 2 years I got to try so many techniques and mediums other than drawing such as installation, collage, animation, cinematography, photography. My advice is to probably look into visual arts or fine art because you'll be able to find a lot of interesting artists or art pieces that's not drawing. Hope I helped

Rachel Amruthaluri I believe so since presentation is also assessed. I have arranged each series of slides dedicated to each piece of work or project. Mostly in chronological order from the initial idea,research, experimenting and final product. Hope I helped😊

I also happened to search every video in connection to the ib art process portfolio and yours is among the ones that I found very helpful. I recommend powerpoint if you're a beginner. Even google slides will work well if you spiced things up.

If you look at the marking criteria, you will realize that each candidate will be assessed across various aspects surrounding their work. They will be requiring you to achieve a balance across all areas including the quality of work, types of mediums used and mostly the evidence of growth in your work and skills.

I’ve never heard of that during my year of completing the course? Perhaps things could’ve changed now. It’s best to confirm this with you tutor xx

I would recommend reading over the latest Visual Arts HL guide to read over the marking scheme. From my personal experience, filmmaking is definitely allowed. I think performance art could be included, if you can link it with visual arts references.
