An absolute pleasure of a conversation with Cary Joji Fukunaga, the director of NO TIME TO DIE. Cary and I discuss his process, technique, and how much he considers the Bond fans when directing a film like this. I also ask him if he had any FAN/Geek-out moments himself while on set, and his answer will delight you!

When David is not running an advertising and marketing company, his hobby is The Bond Experience which is primarily a video blog where he discusses Bond experiences and the people and brands that help to create those experiences...
The mantra of living like Bond, one moment at a time emanates from a concept of experiencing the joy of collecting small moments in life that add up to amazing journeys and stories....whether it's through style, locations, literature, fitness, and the movies themselves the world of Bond is explored through its people and their stories.
Ultimately though, The Bond Experience channel is a celebration of the James Bond franchise and the many people that form a true community. Our core mission is to create a strong connection in the Bond community amongst all the fans, regardless of interest or demographic.

Omg, David, the way his eyes widened and he froze when you asked that first question. It was clearly SO unexpected. Cary must have gone through so many dreary repeats of the same questions and then BAM in you come right from left field. Love it. I loved this interview. Man, you're beyond good at getting the best out of people.

I'm not really a fan of No Time to Die. It almost felt like two different movies. They had the Bond film, in which he fights an evil genius on his island lair who plans to kill millions of people with his DNA targeting nanobots. That would have been a great Bond film. But then they also had a different movie, with a completely different tone. A film about an ex hitman protecting his love interest and young daughter from assassins. That could have also been a cool film. Had each of these concepts been two independent movies, they both would have worked, and both would have been awesome. Unfortunately, they took these two different films and spliced them into one. I did like the Ana de Armas scene. What a charming actress. A great character. And a really fun scene. She was criminally underutilized in this film. Let's hope they bring her back in the next one, because that's someone who I want to see. As for the Black lady 007 (whose name I'm forgetting). Her character wasn't as annoying as I thought she would be. That said, very one dimensional. It's like they took a single joke ("Wouldn't it be funny if 007 retired and they reassigned his number to another agent? Haha!") and built an entire character around that single joke. The fact is, the movie wouldn't have changed in any way had that character not existed. Think about it. What would have been different had that character not existed at all? Not a single thing. Everything would have played out exactly the same. This character literally just existed for the sole purpose of making that single joke. Not exactly great writing.

If the ending isn't a bait and switch and Bond is really dead.. I think it's a catastrophic mistake. Ruins the immortal vibe the character always possessed and destroys the continuity. I doubt Ian Fleming and Albert Broccoli would be that happy! 😒 I wasn't aware Daniel Craig created James Bond but apparently the hired actor has the power to decide Bond must die. Whatever.
@ShawHortonMusic
@ShawHortonMusic 2 года назад
@@bobsmithy9024 I would’ve preferred he got to go off and live with Madeline and their daughter. I suppose you could say that a tragic ending fits Craig’s version of Bond (his ideal has always been out of reach), but I also think it would’ve been very satisfying to finally see him get that “happy ending” that he’s never quite been able to find and keep.

Keep Bond dark, grounded, and gritty. Or else the films won't age well. All the memorable ones like OHMSS, LTK, CR, QoS were ahead of their time. A smaller budget Bond film will certainly help writers and directors focus more on quality and reduce risk of falling back into unwelcome cliches (i.e. effects to give villains an unrealistic look and megalomaniacal, invisible cars etc)

In the barn scene of Goldfinger, Bond and Pussy are actually playing with each other, using some Judo moves. And when Bond tries to kiss her, her "resistance" does't last more than 2 seconds. I have literally no idea why all these Jordan Peterson incel types are getting butthurt about 'woke' diversity in the movie, it didn't hinder the quality at all.
