I finally got to reset my Direct Account today. It finally recognized my account. I can finally buy T-Bills in small $100 increments. That's best I can say about it because investment websites in the secondary market you have to buy in a minimum of $1000. That sort of sucks and you're forced to buy bond funds in the Equity market. when you can only set a side so much on a limited budget.

Ran across your videos in the last month or so. Enjoy the content for sure, thank you! Regarding your breakdown above, I found it somewhat interesting that you're not including your individual stocks in your balancing routine. Appears to be around 19% of your portfolio; and that's based on your Apple as of a year ago! Apple is an amazing company. Long term, it may be worth considering how these individual stocks tilt your portfolio.

On the DSTL fund, I think “Stblty” would translate to “Stability.” I would never invest in that Vanguard bond fund, or that State Street bond fund. 1% or less average return in 10 years? That’s ridiculous! When rates are high buy a Municipal bond in your state. You’ll beat the crap out of those funds and it’s also federally and state tax free!

Stable valuefund in 401K is currently paying less than 3% (from 2% at beginning of last year), while treasuries are paying 4.5% and corporate/muni's more. Thoughts on safety of stable value over loss of income with decent rates. It doesn't seem to be catching up very fast.
@selma5885
@selma5885 Год назад
What do you think of stable value funds in 401K as retiree for bond allocation--right now stable value fund is lagging treasuries and muni and corporate bonds by quite a bit? I like the guaranteed positive rate. Or are transferring to IRA and buying treasuries/corporate bonds a better bet for long term? Have liked getting a positive return the past decade without risk.

When people say “get out of stocks” with no context, it is quite disturbing to me. If you are still building wealth, that advice could be *extremely* harmful to long term wealth creation. You should be buying while the market is down, so getting out of stocks is bad advice. For those who are retired, the advice might be different, but it is better to have an allocation that matches your goals and risk profile.

I have pension that joint life payout is tied is tied 7520 interest rate, I was considering taking as lumpsum. However, now that interest rates increased, monthly payout has increased to about 8 % annual return. The amount is about 25% of total portfolio. At what annual return does a pension become reasonable, what percent of retirement income should be "guaranteed", ie ss, pension, annuity? When and what % do you think 7520 rate will peak in 23? I'm retired 64 yes old, parents still alive at 94- long livers.

Nice of you to show what you own for 2023. I think your 2022 return is even more important and how your portfolio changed or didn't change over the course of 2022. Really, you are not required to show it, you may have a good reason not to show, but it really is an issue because most of us lost a lot of money in 2022.

So, my main man Rob getting into beef with Ben Felix (my other main man). This will be a fight for the ages... 🙂 To be fair to Ben, the analysis of the "luck" of the US market was supported by simulations that simply point out that it would be unusual (not impossible) for the NEXT 100+ years of US Market performance to be as "lucky". And it was for factors beyond war... ALL THAT SAID, I think the argument for diversification with international funds is more than that. As Eduardo Repetto shared recently on an Avantis study, it's also about series of return risk. A prolonged period of international market over-performance vs US market (it HAS happened before for almost 10 years even!) can throw a monkey wrench at any "static" withdrawal plans. Where US-only investors could be a bit overconfidence is in believing that can't happen.
