I did have the early fault with the charge plug not coming out of the car but they replaced it under warranty. Since then it has bee faultless, no noticeable degradation on the battery. We charge a lot at home but also DCFC when we can (maybe once or twice a week) as it free in Scotland at the moment. It replaced a Volvo XC60 with all the toys. We don't miss the Volvo at all. I think it is the best car we have owned so far. You won't regret getting one I am sure. :-)
Hello fellow Canuck!! Love the video, very informative. The Ioniq was my second choice and the car I would recommend for anyone getting into the EV market. (2019 Leaf would be 3rd). The netting behind the passenger seat is for the driver. They can store maps etc etc in there that can be easily reached.
Great video Eric. I hope you will post some that show the battery's performance when it's cold out. I'm thinking of buying one but am VERY leery of what the cold will do to the range of the car. I'm in Alberta, it's been below -25 for a week. I seen lot's of "winter" videos of the car that were filmed in California and the UK...not really a good source I'm thinking!
Hi, I’m driving my Hyundai Ionic EV in Norway. Two weeks ago it was minus 20 degrees centigrade when I started driving. Absolutely no problem. I drove 102 km (62 miles) on a mix of icy gravel road (abt 60 k/hr) and motorway (abt 100 k/hr) before charging. The total drop in altitude was abt 400 meters, so that gave a little help. The battery status showed in excess of 50 k remaining capacity. I drove carefully and kept inside temperature at 19 degrees centigrade. I thought that was pretty good.
Great video, Eric. I think mine is in the same shipment batch as yours. I also ordered in August and picked up on Dec 23 in Toronto. Overall speaking, I like the car. Looks cool, perform pretty well, especially on sport mode, unexpectedly fast. The only thing still struggles me a little bit is the range in winter time. In the entire January with an outside temperature about -10 to -20C, the range was about 160-170km on fully charged. I will expect to come back up to 200km+ in the next couple of months. Curious of why not you getting a green license plate to get on the HOV lane by yourself?
Here in Chatham-Kent, there are no HOV lanes and if I am ever in Toronto with the car I am sure I will have at least three people in it so I would be able to drive in them anyway. Second, I already had the plate, but I don't have the car I was going to put them on anymore. So I put them on this car because in my opinion it does Accelerate very well. As for the range, I am getting the same as you, and with this warmer weather we are having, I am already seeing an improvement.
I heard the rear suspension is not the same as the hybrid version of the ioniq. Does it handle well? Also a bigger battery is coming for the ioniq next year. Hopefully it will compete with the bolt and Tesla model 3.
Well, yes, the electric version has the rear torsion beam suspension, and the other two versions of the Ioniq have independent suspension in the rear. I have driven both and I find the electric version has a nicer ride. Likely due to better weight distribution because of the placement of the batteries. As far as handling, I think the EV handles very well, due to the near perfect weight distribution.
Hello Eric, Very good review, thank you. I received a call on 23/dec/17 from dealer that I have the VIN number, car was ordered on 13 NOV/17, Not Bad. So I have couple of question if you don't mind. 1.Did you ordered rust protection from dealer? what type? 2.Is the Heat Pump reversable, is it working as AC in summer? 3.How much you paid for the car, and the tyres.? (sorry for tricky question) 4.Can you disable ABS by pulling ABS fuse or the car wont run? I prefer to disable ABS in Winter, my car stop faster this way, (I have a video on my channel about That) Recomendation: If you plan to monetize your youtube videos in the future, dont include any songs in the background, otherwise the money will go to right owner of the song. I live in Ontario/Hamilton., and noticed that every IKEA has a fast charger free of charge, which i'm planning to use when planning long trips.
I did not get any rust protection from the dealer. Its just me, I don't believe in all the extra gimmicks from the dealer. The heat pump is an addition to the AC so yes, it does work as AC in the summer. I paid the sticker price for the car.. 36 and change. They know its a hard car to get so they wont budge on that. I did get the zero percent financing and $750 off deal that was on after I ordered my car, so that was good. Plus the $14000 off from the Ontario government. I paid $900 for the winter tires and rims, and that was added to the deal.. Which was nice of them to do. The ABS works different in a EV because of the integration of regenerative braking. I do not believe it is a separate system like on a ICE car. You are going to love the car. I have not been this excited about driving since I was a teen..
I might of missed you saying it, but how many kW is the battery? So how much would a full charge cost you in Ontario? And after incentives, how much did it cost? Comparable to a gasoline car of the same size/features?
Hyundai Kitchener are saying my 2018 will arrive sometime in January so I'm crossing my fingers. I did confirm that the 2018 does in fact come with Lane Keep Assist and not just Lane departure warning so I'm kinda excited about that. How do you find that charger is working out for you. I've been thinking on buying either the one you bought, which as you said is out of Quebec a Canadian company or the Juice Box Pro 40. I have to place the charger outdoors as my my garage isn't powered at this time and it will be more practical for me just to have it mounted on the side of the house. Great Christmas present for you.
I love the charger. It is approved for outdoor use with it either being hard wired or using a weatherproof enclosure for the NEMA 6-50 receptacle. Personally, if I was mounting mine outside, I would have it hard wired.
Hi Eric, we live in London Ontario, we ordered an Ionic electric also. We ordered ours before November 2017, from Kitchener Hyundai, still waiting for a vin # . Did you get yours from the London location.
I ordered mine on August 10, and picked it up from the dealer on December 21. I ordered it from Airport Hyundai In London Ontario. I got my VIN a week before I picked it up.
Congratulations! While the trip date/efficiency log is great, it would be even better if there was more detail (trip time, efficiency breakdown (driving, climate, accessories, like what's available during a current trip), etc). It's possible one or more persons at the dealership sat in the vehicle with the heat full blast pre/post 9km drive, inspecting, fooling around, and/or just left it "running" for a long time. 30ish kw/100km is such horrible efficiency, I'd say if it was just from a QUICK 9km drive, you might be able to tell which of the summer tires had been installed on the front.... Frustrating, but I doubt any harm was done.
We were driving around the other night looking at Christmas lights and our efficiency was not much better.. Heated seats on, 20c in the car, driving down snowy roads . Probably wasting more on keeping warm than propelling the car, and we were not much better... I agree.. They probably just took a quick run enjoying the torque..
During an interview of the CEO of Hyundai France at the Geneva motor show, it was said that Ioniq will have an upgrade of battery in 2018. It will be smaller than 40kWh. This is the interview (in French): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-reRnolZJiQw.html
Strange about the net behind the driver's seat, in this video both chairs have it, maybe they just forgot to install in on your car, very strange: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3x_dmgVMafc.html
Hi Eric enjoyed you review I have an Hyundai Ioniq Electric Elete (right hand drive ) I have had it for 8 months and love it. I have A Question I realise that you com from the U.S.A. And you purchased the Ioniq E.V . In the U.K. And that the car is a left hand drive ? I live on the North Island ( Auckland ) New Zealand so no need for winter tiers we get about 2 or 3 days frost in the middle of winter and that's it. Happy mothering on your new E.V. The only way to go 🚘⚡️👍😎
