I actually did enjoy my Magbak rimcase. It was harder to install that I was anticipating but it gave me peace of mind. It's been a few months and it it's still going strong!
Hey mate. Good on you for being honest. It’s your channel to decide what makes the cut and maintains your integrity. I haven’t done many product reviews for the same reason. It’s messy. I only review products that I would buy myself anyway. I actually reviewed the product you didn’t mention. It isn’t for everyone. It was different for me as I was planning on buying it anyway and I approached them. I actually felt bad as some people had difficulties fitting. Mine have actually worked very well and I real world tested the product before editing. I don’t get anywhere near the views you do so I definitely haven’t done it for the money 😂 I think products like this still need to be reviewed by someone even if it is just to show the products difficulties or limitations.
Good form. Get some 400 grit sand paper and wet sand the affected area, then get some colour matching touch up paint and go over it. If you want to get a little more or a pro look, I’ve used a drill bit with a sanding disk on the end, sanded the edge fanning slightly as an go about 5 cm. Tape off a 10 cm radius circle around the affected area and fold the tape horizontal the half way ( prevents an over spray line) and block the wheel arch and tire with garbage bags. Get the colour matched at an auto paint shop and buy a can in 2k. Do 3 coats starting small and fan out slightly after every coat. Don’t spray all the way to the tape. 30 minute job and will cost you $30- $35
Brother, must be hard doing this with a baby. Totally feel you and my respect for you has only grown after this honesty. As a RU-vidr myself, it's the first time I felt a dread with creating content when you have brands pushing their demands down your throat..

We simply remove the covers for around town & put the caps on for road trips for efficiency. We love the standard silver mags (with axel caps) 19 " tyres reduce risk of rash & smoother ride too.
Let me guess, it's the Magbak Rim Case pieces of plastic with thin plastic film for 75usd. I saw Tesla Tom's video and thought it was a joke. Tiny pieces of plastic in-between a 2 tonne vehicle and a concrete edge. Might as well wrap the wheel in paper.
I actually tested them properly. It’s not a perfect solution and they are time consuming to fit but they work well. Plus no one else is offering a solution.

Hopefully we don't have the same issue with our model Y. But I had really terrible time in my Scion tC. Rim rash on all four tires, due to all different problems.

Hi Ryan, Got my Model Y around the same time as you did. I went for the 19's because Northland New Zealand roads, are just so bad, and Im talking potholes on State Highway 1. Those rims would get buckled! Congrats to you & Paige on the baby!

Its one those issues with low profile passenger car tyres. I have 3 small areas on our Model 3 rims over 12 months but none on any 4wd I've owned over many years. Massive sidewalls help but obviously not great on an EV! The Induction and Uberturbine wheels are particularly susceptible though......

Hubcaps on 19" wheels also get scratched, not as easily but still do. That size also gets a bit more range. Still remeber that Tesla branded umbrela....That time spent today should have included manscaping. Ohh the upheaval of producing offspring.
I somewhat enjoy seeing reviews, however do appreciate you not pushing something that doesn’t really crack up to what it’s meant to be. Was a little disappointed that you didn’t say the honest review on the product. Name & shame the crap, but promote the stuff that works. Too many channels out there for the money, so well done 👍
Valuable and trustworthy channel. Many youtubers lost their audience because of recommending trash products. I’ve unsubscribed dozens of them in recent months.
Why does Tesla use tires narrower than the rim? My last Audi q5 had great tires that were outside the rim and if I touched the curb it was always the rubber tire, not metal.
Hi Ryan. If the product was the MagBak RimCase that will be really disappointing. I really wanted to get the 20’ induction wheels for my Tesla Model Y Long Range but opted for the 19’ Gemini Wheels due to how easily the 20’ Induction Wheels and 21’ Uber Turbine Wheels get rim rash which is annoying for how much you end up paying for them. If the MagBak rim protectors were out when I got mine back in Sept 2022 I would have opted for them. Tesla have now gone for darker Gemini Wheels now on the new Ys coming out of China which I’m glad about as I’m waiting to see how the new Model Y Juniper will look with the same changes as in the new Model 3 Highland that’s now available or order in the UK and Australia! I don’t mind the Gemini’s so much as you get slightly better ride quality and the induction Wheels get scratched too easily but the darker colour Gemini’s are a slight improvement to how they look.
I have the 20” inductions and installed the Magbaks from brand new. They look great to me, easy to install/remove and will take the hit if curb rash happens. Good enough for me.

Throw wider tires on and/or get so some of those rim protectors that everyone else on RU-vid is using. (Hopefully the latter isn’t what you were disappointed with haha)
Great video Ryan 👍 I've had the same experience Never caught my wheels on anything over the last 20 years, but within 2 months of having my Model Y, I have caught 3 of the 4 wheels so far. Fortunately, I have the silver 19" Gemini wheels on my MY, but I put after-market wheel trims on it, so I have only caught them, not the wheels themselves. Easily replaced and much cheaper than having the wheels repaired. Good on you for not taking on a product you felt was not good enough. Hope you are all well (Keith).

Magbak kit no good? I was afraid the parts would fly off the car. I drives a model 3 and put the plastic cover that appears to be induction on my wheel. Cheaper, better ride with small rim, cheaper tires.
Appreciate the honesty and brings a lot of integrity to your video's (which there already is). On this note, what are your long term thoughts on the roof shade? I've heard they rattle and come loose, so instead am looking at the Hansshow fabric roller which seems to have a sturdier build and more flexibility.
Thank you, really appreciate that ! In regards to the roof shade, that new Hansshow one looks amazing, but the install is a little harder, and I'm not sure of the quality. Anything that alters/plugs into the Tesla wiring always has me nervous. The Otrifowd one is great as a cheaper option, but does rattle a little bit. However we've really found it useful. Couple questions with the new highland, (I love the new silver upgraded rims on the new 3, red, with those rims and a white interior goes amazing!) do you think the rims will be different? Because the updates of the highland are quite impressive, and now the grandparents are seriously considering a Tesla, but they love the bigger Y. Do you have any ideas for when the updated model Y will come out?
Thanks mate, bubba is going well 🥰 Enjoying every moment with her while she is still tiny ! I think the new M3 highland is VERY compelling. And yes, love the new wheels they've done for it. Model Y minor refresh is just rolling out of China now, and bigger upgrade to model Y will still be a few years away I suspect.
My feeling is the bigger refresh on the Y is a long way off too. I upgraded from the 3 to the Y a few months back and don’t regret it one bit. I went for the 20” too but with the new suspension upgrade at the beginning of 2023 it’s nowhere near as harsh. It’s actually a nice ride. The range loss with 20” over the 19” is so minimal. My efficiency has been very close to what I was getting with my 3. The extra space is amazing with the Y and being higher up it is much easier to get in and out of. Perfect for older people.
The 20 inch wheels would be offering better performance I can only assume. We have the 2021 M3 LR with 19 inch optional sport wheels and recently bought 2023 MY LR with standard 19 inch Gemini Wheels (swapped those hub caps the first day for black 😅). The handling of the M3 is way better on twisty roads. MY feels top heavy. However the thick tyre walls on MY Gemini wheels is ideal for pot holes and rough roads. 2023 MY has comfort suspension also helps. Great cruiser. ‘We’ have also had rim rash shopping accidents 🤭
Great points ! The 19's + the new softer suspension would make for a noticeable difference between our Model Y. And I agree, handling in 3 is much more fun.
Great video and choice to not review a product that is not worthy of your audience spending money on. To my fellow Tesla drivers rim rash is not a Tesla problem it’s something you have to be aware of when driving a car with low profile tires. We just need to be cautious when making turns and parking near curbs. It’s not about people being bad drivers as much as much as taking for granted that with most cars you don’t have a to worry about turns. Just stay cautious and your rims will look great for years to come.
😂 Our Team is also the same. Though half our team didn’t get the reference. Can’t commend you enough for your integrity. I’ve got to say it’s my main criteria for following a RU-vidr. Doesn’t mean I don’t watch the others. 😇
Ryan, firstly I really appreciate that you didn't put up a fake review. As a creator your credibility has now sky-rocketed. I just want to say that I'm in the same boat, got these 20" wheels because the standard wheels were just so damn ugly and now we have 2 set scratches (both on the passenger side) and I'm also looking for a solution. As a viewer I still want know "what not to buy for my Tesla", so would love to hear what was wrong with the product so we don't end up buying it by watching someone else. If NDA stops you from posting bad review then would like you to make the brand ambiguous and still post it. Just my 2 cents, keep up the great work!

Hey Ryan, I'm having the same product and my rim got damaged even with the rim guard on another issue is inflating when it's on most of the service center's nozzles do not fit in and segments are coming off every time need to push in after every ride

Hey mate, as much as I love the look of our 20" inductions, if I had my time again, I'd go the 19's-softer ride, less expensive, more efficient, and easy to replace if damaged. Suspension is definitely 'sportier' in the Model Y compared to the Mazda. If Tesla offered an upgraded suspension, I'd get it.
So would you opt for the smaller wheels and get aftermarket look alike hub caps if you had the chance to do over? Just wondering as we’re planning on getting a model Y! 😊
