Buonasera! Since leaving home at 17, I’ve always lived in cities and small towns - Kobe, Rome, Melbourne, Monte Carlo, Positano, Florence, London, Barcelona… so my bicycle and my feet were the easiest way to get around. But now we’re in the countryside of Tuscany, a driving license is crucial and this week Guido gave me my FIRST ever driving lesson. Hope you like it. The subtitles are fast so you may need to watch a couple of times but hopefully it’s helpful for those of you studying Italian. Thanks for watching! 😘 🚗 🇮🇹

Bravo Guido e brava Kylie. Teaching anyone to drive requires patience and nerves of steel. You both did very well. Guido saying he should thank God was correct, then imo followed up with some wine. I remember trying to teach my sister how to drive. It didn’t go well. Love and patience and determination will get you a drivers license.

Good job! I taught all my daughters to drive in a manual transmission car so they would always know how. It’s surprising how many people here in the US don’t know how to drive a manual.
@Maquillage79
@Maquillage79 Год назад
There isn’t much opportunity to drive manual in the states . Most cars are automatic . Unless you work on a farm with manual vehicles or purchase a manual . I haven’t driven a manual in 14 years so I’m sure I would need a refresher .

Agreed. And in LA where that left foot can get really tired! I’ve stories about my ankle and holiday commutes. Yes, stick shift skills, German or otherwise, are great to know if you plan to drive but having a manual transmission has been a huge blessing when it comes to my familia etc asking to borrow my car 😁
@barbhuber7502
@barbhuber7502 Год назад
@@nadine1818 it’s surprisingly easy. It’s like riding a bike, you might be a bit rusty but it comes back. I test drove a manual a few years ago and even after having automatics for many years I could do it. It’s actually more fun to drive a manual unless you’re in a lot of traffic! We switched to automatics because we live in Dallas and the traffic can be 🤯.

Hilly town so holding on hill and hill starts mastered quickly too as matter of survival! Pandas are great little cars like small 4 wheel drives. Super well done! Heehee! 😊 My dad was a pilot so every driving lesson included things that were nonsense to me like mirrors! When I watched him demonstrate to 17 grandkids with wall diagrams and saw all the kids tuned out I was both dismayed and realized… driving is instinctual! Some have, some don’t .Yes, the mechanics are important but if you’re paralyzed by them and not free to feel, then what? I learned to drive the first car I bought $2500! in 1989, a manual transmission, by driving it across LA gridlock for work every day! Gears screamed! Hill starts are a bitch. Try pulling the park brake up while you rev up. Trial by fire! I guess same with most life experiences 💃 Rock on Sistah! 💞

Kylie, when your husband isn't around, take the car and go into a dry open field, and drive around, you have the basics, all you need is the practice. When in doubt, just brake it - the car will stall immediately, you will buck forward but it will stop you immediately. The pot holes, you guys need a jeep or truck!! No front-end alignments needed cause it would not be worth it!! You will be driving soon, even good enough for John Franco!! You are a fast learner - going up hill and getting it into second and not stalling it, for the first time - perfecto!! Oh, love the subtitles in English, especially the one word ones on the side. I'm not sure if your husband wants you to drive, so he doesn't have to - they always have a motive! no matter how good they are) but keep learning new things until your last breath - secret of living well...PS I would get in the car with you, even at this stage, and I love my life....

Congratulations Kylie! I remember how nerve racking this is, so many things to remember. Very soon it will be second nature for you and you will wonder why you worried. Well done to both of you, very entertaining! Have a great week! 🥰

Ciao Kylie! I rented a car last time I was in Italy and chose a manual to save money. I hadn't driven one in about 20 years. At the airport car rental, I had to be reminded which pedals were which. At one point later in the first town I stopped in, I couldn't get the car into reverse and a car had parked in front of me. At least I knew how to say "Aiuto" and some young guy on a motorcycle came to my rescue. I ended up really enjoying driving a stick once I got used to it, except on the strade statale with lights at every block!

Your beautiful relationship is quite evident in how you communicate with each other. Plenty of married couples would be divorced after this!

Reminds me when my brother taught me to drive a stick shift. Clutch! Gas! Brake! I always drove a manual until I turned 65, then got my first automatic. Pretty soon it will be so automatic you won't even think about it! Brava!

Good for you, Kylie!! I was born in Sicily, and my mother never learned how to drive, not even after moving to America. To this day, she has to wait for someone to take her places. How wonderful it would have been for her to experience the thrill of learning to drive if only she had overcome her fear. Brava Kylie👏👏👏🥰
