Hi everyone! Today's video is my January 2024 book haul. I got 12 (or 14) books and 16 volumes of manga in January. As I said in my previous book haul, One of my goals this year is to cut back on my spending on books due to limited space. And here is me trying to achieve that. But I am super satisfied with what I acquired last month. Many gorgeous and well-made special editions arrived at my place! I am grateful to the friends, booksellers, publishers, and authors who sent me books. Tell me what you think about these books if you've read them. If not, which books interest you the most here? The Northern Wrath edition is just gorgeous! Also, Time to Kill looked somehow smaller-sized than what I'd imagined! That's a terrific haul, Petrik, congrats!!

The Silmarillion looks beautiful ! One of my favourite fantasy books of all time no doubt ! :D Im waiting for My Hero Academia second box set for a year already ... lol :D

Happy belated birthday! If it's on sale during your birthday, it's basically free. Overall a very nice looking book haul! Threadlight would probably be my vote for the top one, but they're all great.

I have special editions of Silmarillion, The Hobbit, and LOTR all illustrated by Tolkien himself! My LOTR edition is my most expensive book!

still waiting on my threadlight shipping notice 😭 yeah the slipcase add-on was an entire dollar (i know i skipped some kickstarter slipcases becase they cost an entire book lol) my january haul: a paperback of magician by feist from my local secondhand bookstore. i'm trying my best to not spend too much on books, i went a bit crazy with the bookbuying last year. hopefully i stay on budget since i'm realizing more and more that i prefer paperbacks to hardcovers. they're easier to read and i like the artwork to be printed directly on the book (i remove dust jackets when i read because they get in the way and they're the first to get damaged).

Arghh I hope your Threadlight trilogy omnibus will ship soon! I actually like reading from hardcover too now as long that the hardcover is well produced. Like you, though, book buying was so crazy last year. I'm trying to cut down this year, too. Best of luck to both of us! 😄

Great book haul man as always some beautiful beautiful special editions I'm about 40% through the way of Kings right at the beginning of part 3 sanderson's writing is a little different from what I'm used 2 but I'm enjoying it so far and when I get bored I switch up with different books so keep up the great videos

The Silmarillion is a Masterpiece of true Prolific worth. Though only made possible do to the valiant efforts of Christopher Tolkien's masterful craftsmanship. To which his loyal dedication onto his Fathers divine literature never wavered. Have this copy as well, though newer versions are coming out by Harper Collins with artistic renditions by Alan Lee, John Howe and Ted Nasmith. They look incredible and worth every coin spared for indulgent reading. For me, nothing will come close to the top 12 fantasy authors of all time. JRR Tolkien, CS Lewis, JK Rowling, Brian Jacques, Steven Erikson, Michael Crichton, George RR Martin, Frank Herbert, Michael J Sullivan, Andrzej SapKowski and Terry Pratchett, Tad Williams.

@@noname3609 They are my own Chosen mate. BrandSand is popular, though his books are a crusade to get through. Joe is very talented as well as John. Though again, 12 could be chosen. This would be it. Runners up as well, upon this could be. Philip C Quaintrell, Anthony Ryan or even Brian Staveley. Though again, that is the beauty of opinion, No right nor wrong, just a pleasure in enjoying life’s journey.

The first time I read Silmarillion, I can't deny I struggled through a lot of sections. But at the same time, as I said, something about the stories keep pulling me back. I want to read it again using this edition. I didn't know there's an even newer version than this! 😄

Last month I bought Fool's Errand by Robbin Hobb, Ship of Magic by Robin Hobb, A Game of Throne by George RR Martin, A Little Hatred by Joe Abercrombie, and Mercury by Amy Jo Burns. There goes the budget. Silmarillon has become very popular lately. I wonder why. Thank you.

Nice video! Well you can say it Petrik, Grim Oak charging an extra $50 for a rather simple slipcase for books costing around $150~$200 is really expensive! Suntup is pricey and Boy's Life came with slipcase at $175 with color illustrations etc ... I feel the special edition little world is going through such a bubble, anything sells out

Yeahhh! That's the thing. Suntup Edition of Boy's Life looked mega stunning and extremely well produced. It has the same price as Grim Oak Press edition of Dragonbone Chair except that it comes with a slipcase.

Kickstarter boardgames happen in the same way..now is in a bit of a slowdown. Per example see the price of lotr simlarellion and broken binding.. same value 25£ and one contains dozens interior arts and broken binding does not. And worse, for five extra pounds you get it signed. Overall the world of books are full of special edition.i collect Black library (Warhammer) and each is around 50 pounds..and it's the same stuff as broken binding..no interior art. Nada special except being one out of 2000 signed lol. We live in a world of superfluous people that want unique stuff. The companies know and they are overcharging. (Hey I am one idiot but I can't denied that my fomo and being superfulous as I am is killing me... Money wise. I still have my paperback from the 70 (yellow pages) and the books are still good and presentable. Quality wise nowadays paperback are not as good. I have 10 years book that lost colour while old stuff still have..

@@chevalierdulys Broken Binding really isn't overcharging. They are asking like 10 extra pounds for new cover, custom endsheets, signature, sprayed edges. Those books need to be printed and the earnings are split between TBB, author and original publisher. Those are fairly priced. TBB Press books are on par with $200 Subterranean, Grim Oak Press books for less than half their price. Besides I really have no idea why you're mentioning Silmarillion when TBB never produced special edition of it. They never touched anything from JRRT. Subterranean, Grim Oak and others on the other hand don't know how much to ask for their editions these days. It's getting ridiculous. Bill from SubPress recently disclosed how much costs lettered edition to make and how much they earn from one such printing in their FB group. And people were actually defending the pricing as if poor SubPress was scraping the bottom of the barrel with Gross sales: $22,100.00/Total profits so far: $7094.00 from 32 copies of a book (lettered + PC copies). I thought I was finally at a point in my life where I can collect special editions of my favorite books but as I got here the prices essentially doubled in last 3 years. Yet Kickstarters and TBB are able to produce excellent editions for fraction of the usual small press price. And I'm slowly giving up. I'd rather save up for a new car at this point.

@@heretic124 when I mentioned silmarillion was because petrik show and with all the illustrations within still was the same as TBB . Even silm had to make covers.. if you say ok but silm sell 100k books instead of 3k then yes I agree. So let's go back to TBB.. this last book was 25 like previous series but on this they also made a new cover,the previous they used previous existent books. So in this last I thought it was better value. Oh well... I have two books, both by BL that if you go to eBay or FB pages they cost around 600 euros now. They cost me 60 lol. So yes... The market is being flooded, some books you have three or four different SE.and it's being absurd...

Same here, sometimes my mofo makes me buy obviously overpriced books like those Gollancz Emporium editions 😶 but I'm glad we're getting all these options. As the yellowed pages thing ... cute is definitely winning the battle to quality right, as showed in the TBB poll thing where Alternative cover almost wins over acid free paper lol @@chevalierdulys

Im not knowledgeable about kickstarter at all. How do you go about getting books on there or know about them ? Do you just back the project and if it gets funded you get the books ?
