That cable still looks a bit too thin. You probably want 14 gauge AWG cable. It'll be good for 15A. That stuff might work fine under no load like you tested, but once that pump is pumping water, it'll draw more current, and heat the wire more. Now I don't know how much it draws, And I don't know if you have a multimeter (handy thing to have), But I suspect it draws at least 5A, and using heavier cable should handle things like stall currents if it gets jammed or summat. 14AWG cable will run 15A at a cable temp of 60ºC(140ºF), 20A at 75ºC(167ºF), and 25A at 90ºC(194ºF) These are all temps that will burn you. That's why you use bigger cable for lower loads, so it doesn't get to those temps under prolonged use. And ALWAYS use a fuse of a lower rating than the cable. That'll stop the fires! 🙂 Fuses don't usually pop until they get around 2x the current of their rating. So a 10A fuse might take 20A before it pops. Another reason I recommend such a gauge of cable, otherwise the cable becomes the fuse. Also, keep a wee bag with a couple of spare fuses zip tied near the fuse holder, it'll save you hunting for some especially if you are out on the water, with it coming in the boat. Good luck. Lesley

You need to make sure the wire gauge is suitable for the current you have running through it. I also learned this thru trial & error... & almost setting my house on fire. Always try to get wire that matches the thickness of wire whatever item you're wiring up already has on it. That also goes if you're ever using an extension lead btw, never plug anything in to an extension lead, that has a wire thicker than what the extension lead has.

Hey brother how do you play to stop the leaking in ole leaky? Im in louisville kentucky, fished all my life never been any good at it when i catch a fish i feel like a little kid again but im looking to do the same thing you got going on here, looking to be extremely cheap aswell(love your content btw absolutely freaked when i learned you were in kentucky too, but i know imma better angler than what I feel like I am right now idk if its me or if its just the bass population around louisville isnt giving good fishery, okay but imma 250-280lb man and I wanna take a 1448 jon boat and do the same youre doing man, but imma afraid of going over the weight limit LMFAO!! so to combat that I thought about adding foam all under the deck (have the same idea as you no need for trapdoors in the floor just gonna take away from stability or add weight to regain said stability, I do wanna add a livewell to mine but im literally just gonna use a cooler and give that cooler all it needs and store it somewhere on my new vessel, I might add a trap door to the front deck with some 1x1s for framing that little area, ill build it right off bench by the middle but if i do that ill literally fill the whole area up underneath that with foam, like literally till the deck has to rest on it and be screwed down or whatever, that foam itsell will give the wood plenty of stability to support any weight but enough flex that it doesnt snap. like your shower in your bathroom the plastic floor has a block of foam underneath it to protect the floor and insulate, also the benches on the jonboat have foam in them too for the same purpose for stability in the metal but also to add some boyancy for the accomadation of an angler sitting in the boat

Can’t wait for the next build! Or I guess we don’t know if it’s gonna need work or not yet lol

JT when you get a device , that runs at a certain ampage, make sure you get the correct wire ,or slightly above to handle the current. Even if it means buying new wire . Never use old wire , whether, it looks okay or not ,unless it's unused on a reel ,stored . And inspect your cables regularly where they may rub ir bind against anything in the boat etc. As if the outer case gets worm you'll have same issue . As for fuses .. tsk tsk . Oh one more big NO NO ... joints in wires , do not string wire together ,as these will be your weak points for fires . No matter how tight you join them . Worse still if they loosen ,they can spark , which uf fuel or such is near by ,it aint a happy ending . But remember even wirh out fuel ,the joints that are loose can get hot .

You should sand it down and put fibre glass filler on it will never come off

use heat shrink around your connections and tape around the heat string and keep your wire harness dry ig you can run it in a short piece of water proof conduit your hot wire probably got wet at some point and shorted you out.

I lucked out. Bought a 1977 12ft jon boat off marketplace and it stays bone dry. But I’m sure if I keep running it the way I do it’s going to leak 😂

Mate I’ve said it before- explain to your subscrimblers what you’re about to attempt and then follow guidelines by experts- will save you money but at least you get videos out of your efforts ❤
