The Spongebob set makes me laugh just for the fact someone at MTH decided that combining Spongebob and trains would be a groundbreaking idea. Although it wasn't, I really wish they made that Spongebob and Patrick operating handcar in 2005... And the fact that set plays the Spongebob theme in revolutionary 144p quality is hilarious.
Getting the younger generations involved is so important. I attempted to get my girlfriend's youngest son into trains but he's much more interested in video games. Which I understand because I was that age too in the Nintendo and Super Nintendo days. But still.
So true. My interest in both real trains and model trains started young. My late grandfather took me to a couple of train shows when I was only like 7 years old. He also bought me a couple of sets, and my dad built an oval of track on a cut sheet of plywood, which I still have. As I grew up, I admit my interest waned, but amid Covid lockdown, I've rediscovered it. The track is all rusty now, so I'll end up building a duplicate. Nothing elaborate, like a small 4x6 oval to run HO scale trains on.
@@joshuariddensdale2126 My mom had a friend that worked on the railroad. I was too young to remember the specifics but I was around 8 years old or so. And I got to get up into a caboose and the cab of a locomotive. A few years later my dad got me a H.O. scale Life-Like starter set and that really got me started. I had to get rid of the set when we moved a year or two later to a smaller house. But then again as an adult I got back into it. First H.O. scale. and now N scale mostly although I do have most of my H.O. scale and even a few O scale pieces. But I really wish that I could get Jojo into trains. We have even gone to train museums together.
I did not go crazy into the hobby until I was a little older as well. You might be surprised at how a seed you plant now will grow later. Thanks for sharing Shane!
I absolutely loved this video! The time my father spent with me is exactly why I still love trains today! Thanks for continuing to share the love of the hobby!
That Spongebob set is just perfection. It's like a shitpost on wheels. If you can, look for all the pieces to the I Love Toy Trains set. They were all sold separately, but you can find them for good prices on Ebay.
2,744 views and only 351 likes , come on people. This was a fun video that involved the entire family and spotlighted some really random trains. All thumbs up in my book
. Dont leave trainroom unattended!.Great getting the kids into it..they're cute..--- yes the SD40 is king! and that alien 51 set was real nice. some beautiful motive power in your collection too. Im more of an ho scaler, but still like the channel...thanks for sharing
Living in Chicago, I have to say you picked a good choice with the 20th century limited. But this was a fun family video. It's great your family got involved and you should have them in more of your videos. Great family time
Bro, that Spongebob train was sooo fun... And i love the part at 5:42 *"the BIG boy."* So cute :) And the video passed so fast! I enjoyed the entire video, thanks you for share it!
Always fun when you get the family involved! My daughter is 23 and has kinda lost that, but its all good. I tell ya Chris, that Black Bonnet is STUNNING!!!!!
Great video Chris! Nice seeing the family in the train room with you, even if some were not on camera. You sure do have a beautiful collection of trains!!
Yeah Chris I can see it coming. Thirty years from now you're going to be the fun grandpa! Taking things in turn... Clare and the "Bikini Bottom Express?" Yep, I found myself singing along with the Sponge Bob theme! I'm surprised it didn't put me in the mood for a "Crabbie Patty!" Now Addy with that pre-war "Commodore Vanderbilt." Something could be going on here. She might also be developing a taste for old movies and turning into a TCM fan! If she loves "The Wizard Of Oz" she's on the way! "Party like it's 1939!" Bailey certainly has an eye for color and design, that was a great choice of the Santa Fe and the silver passenger cars! Too cool for the video? Yeah, it happens. She'll get over it. That Niagara in the 20th Century fantasy scheme? You know, if the NYC didn't paint a 6000 like that they sure should have! And isn't it nice when a husband and wife have the same taste in engines? In our case it's the N&W's Class J. "Mighty 611's" our "baby." Fun video as usual Chris! Thanks for posting!
Once again another amazing video!! The family who trains together stays together. All of my daughter like when the trains come out at Christmas but it’s my youngest who get the most excited. She’s always been the one creating the annual under the tree layout and even to this day at 23 she keeps the tradition rolling. Hopefully in the near future I will be able to get my permanent layout going and hope that all my kids will be there to lend their support
Loved the video probably the most wholesome thing I’ve seen with trains. You should run of your 3 biggest locomotives in your collection whether they’re steam or diesel together.
Cute kids, enjoy them now. What a great idea to have the kids in the train room with you. These memories will last forever. The older girl not hanging with dad, welcome to the club. Lol Thanks for the video, brought back memories.
Dad and Grandpa got me involved from a young age too. Yeah it wasn't what all the cool kids did but do I really care? Nope. Lots of nice memories as a result
Very nice video, loved that you involved the family. The Spongebob train needs an aquarium car with Spongebob and his friends. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Chris, beautiful family, Chris. But we didn't see the Mama engineer... Maybe next time. Have fun everyone. See you all in the next vlog. John from LI, NY.
Great video! I love the SpongeBob train! I have an operating SpongeBob box car that was made by K-line haven’t been able to find a set yet! Glad to see the kids love trains as much as we do
Excellent video, Chris! Once again you take me back to the I Love Toy Trains years with your shots of the colorful trains. Also, phenomenal job with your shots of the Niagara. Very well done. Nice to see the family involved and excited about trains. We need more of that!
Great video. I enjoy when my daughter and I run trains. Of course, for her, she has declared the Lionel Chessie GS-4 has her train. And she is slowly gathering a decent set of various Chessie freight cars. It’s all about the Chessie cat with her.
If my dad owned a big train layout when ias a kid id took it over too 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 but all jokes aside its good to see your kids getting involved in trains kudos to you all
I remember the spongebob set, one of my first sets along with the polar express that my grandpas gave to me, so much nostalgia hearing the song playing from the caboose
Bro, first of all I would give you a hug as a brother. I just ordered 2 of their items. The UP 8444 FEF and the Passengers. They are in my same state and I'm super happy that I bought it from them!. Of course I haven't got a layout yet so I bought a Roller to test the Locomotives. Soon that Arrives? I will give it a test.
You are a true inspiration sir, and one very lucky guy I might add! Trains & family is the best, love it! Keep it going! Our family loves the combo smoke smell btw (mth proto pine smoke and lionel traditional...there's just something about it! lol)
Hello Chris another great video getting your Daughters involved in the Hobby is really fun after all when the Holidays arrive they can really have some fun maybe when you attend the York train show you can find some xmas trains GOD BLESS CHRIS TAKE CARE AND HAPPY RAILROADING ;-)
Nice video Chris. It’s important to have your kids involved in your hobby. Don’t want them to feel like the trains interfere with time with dad time. Thanks for sharing this keeping it real video.
You know RBP, MTH did make additional SpongeBob trains to build a little collection. If I remember from the catalogs, they included a yellow railking mogul, 11 freight cars( few of them decorated for Christmas) and a bay window caboose painted green. I think your youngest girl Clare would LOVE to have a little collection of MTH SpongeBob O gauge trains. Think about it.
Hey Chris big fan I have a video idea for you it is the GG1 one of my favorite engines and if you could find it the Disney set with all of the boxcars that would be great video or if you can’t get that maybe the Burger king set with the Wendy’s caboose that would be awesome thanks for making videos
If I was you, I would have chosen the Polar Express with a BNSF diesel helper, and a random excursion car consist. I know it sounds weird, but that’s just my thought.
Very wholesome and fun video to watch. Btw I was wondering if you have done a video on the C&O class M-1 steam turbine locomotive before? I love the look of the locomotive but never got to see it run irl or in model form and I enjoy watching your videos so it would be nice to see it run
One of my favorite videos you’ve made so far! It looks like your daughters had a great time running the trains with you! Did I see your oldest towards the end making a cameo? Did your wife not want to be on camera with her favorite train? 😜 fantastic video, Chris!
Couldn't convince the wife or my oldest to get in the video, even with the short and obstructed views I was working with. Got all three daughters in the thumbnail though, haha! Thanks Patrick!
