i would say it could be a feed digestion issue due to colder air temparatures, i had similar & was told to feed ordinary peas to aid digestion & this did help, my fish also was on its back for a few days, but eventually came round, good luck

Hi James , I'm new to the hobby but have watched tonns of videos trying to learn the hobby. I saw a video of someone with the same problem. The cause turned out to be constipation. Caused by still having a slow moving bowel due to cold temps. He gently massaged the fishes tummy and that helped remove the blockage . I'm not sure if it's good advice but it's hard to know . I wish they could talk. I wish you the best of luck, hope you get it sorted.

It can also be an airbubble. It can happen. The air around the swim bladder makes it lose the balance. It will stress swim and jump to get rid if the air inside. Once it's gone. The koi will go back to normal.

Hi James! I would say either internal bacterial infection or sleep disease and the latter usually happens to tosai’s. A heavily aeraeted separate tank with 0,5% salt and slowly raise Temperature would might help but think you don’t have any spare tank. Hope you finds a solution. Best regards from Sweden.

Hi mate, emotional video man 😢 But a small positive out of a negative situation is you provided so so so much info on what to check, what to think, what to consider for anyone else in a similar situation with a poorly koi. So sorry to see this mate but real happy she is improving as it didn't seem great mate. Thank you for sharing and educating. PS I have zero idea I can only hope she just a bit poorly for a while like us humans. Stay strong brother 💪

Scrap and look for costia James. If you find some get malachite and formalin in there ! Check for blockage . If you see nothing then could be bacterial .salt to 0 5 to 0.6 ( use salt meter) only salt if definitely no parasite and water quality is good . Hope this helps mate

Sorry to hear she’s not well mate, glad she looked better at the end of the video. I’m new to this but if it was me I’d possibly set up a quarantine tank, salt to 0.3 and heat. I’ve literally just got back from picking up 2 showkoi vats today 1.5m by 1m deep (350 gallons) if you wanted to borrow one I’m in Bridgwater so only a short trip up the M5. Have you still got your old filters? I’ve got a 2kw cloverleaf heater spare air pump and around 5kg salt if needed (you could set it up in the conservatory if Mrs Wisperer is ok with it) let me know if I can help 👍

Had the same here a couple of years ago, it was after winter. I managed to save my fish , didn't use any medecisin at all, water was fine and so was all the other fish in my pond. just salted a little since it was only 1 of 15 koi that was behaving poorly. I didn't have a extra tank then so salted the whole pond and also gave it salt baths in 2,5% salt every 2. Day for 2 weeks had the koi in the salt bath for max 3 minutes..dont know what was wrong but please be careful to put stuff in you're perfect water quality bud. And remember all living can become sick so be careful with the rest of you're fish. Saw others also gave you tips with salt, and that cant hurt ...but anyways GOOD LUCK with the situation and crossing fingers for it will end good.

Sorry for you! I lost my karashigoi 15 days ago under the same conditions with the same symptoms. The problem came from the eggs. She recovered in a quarantine tank with salt water and very good oxygenation but I put her back in the tank too quickly. I probably should have waited longer. Good luck.

@willmalbon7659
@willmalbon7659 2 года назад
I have had one that did that before. Couple of high salinity salt baths improved it no end but I would say if you can check metal contents I would to rule it out. Then try couple of high level salt baths 3oz per gallon for 10 mins and rest in water for an hour then repeat. Plus if you can get her to eat maybe mix up some koi masters paste and feed her to try and help balance her osmotic levels.

If it was water quality issue, ALL the fish would be affected, its NOT water so don't panic. Internal bacterial infection more than likely, she seems a bit bloated. Treat her in a basin with Epsom salts or melafix medicine. It's NOT WATER QUALITY ISSUE. Don't ruin your water by panicking. Hope you get her sorted. Feed her a mushy pea. Good luck 👍.

Sorry to see this James. I’m not sure but she seems to be slightly swollen on one side. If I had to bet, I say it was constipation, Epsom Salts could help. Hopefully she will improve over the days to come 🤞🏼

Hi, I had a Kohaku some year ago that behave like yours. Bad balance, even swimming upside-down. After a week my fish started to swim more or less normally again without me doing any thing. I think it was som impact to the head that cause it. All water parameters were OK as well as all other koi in the same pond.

Hi James I had the same thing with a large Koi, I don't think its an infection or swim bladder disease, it looks like something gone wrong with its brain maybe lack of oxygen, mini stroke etc. I left mine well alone in the pond I just put more air stones in the water, it took about 2 months until it was back to normal. I didn't give it salt baths because I was worried I could finish it off. Your pond looks awesome mate I hope your Koi gets better soon.

Hi James. I've seen Koi that have become egg bound act like this. If you can hold her upside down and gently massage her stomach towards her vent you may be able to see brown rotting eggs come out of her. If this is the case all the eggs need to be massaged out and antibiotic injections will be needed. Also have a good look for costia when you do your scrapes. Good luck bud

If you still got the front small pond running I’d put it back in there. If you don’t know what’s going on then its surely best, for the rest of the fish, to quarantine if you can. Seems like if you have the front temporary pond still set up and running. Use it.

James sleeping disease (CEV)is usually young tosai and is a virus that sheds into the water. I don't think it's that, she doesn't look like she is holding fluid. For me it's an internal issue that I'm afraid there is not a lot you ck to the individual fish.
@philwalton1009

Not a lot you can do dont rush in and try and avoid netting her every 2 mins. Just observe and see how she does.

Mate its not parasites as she is is the only effected fish plus her symptoms are not parasite symptoms. If your water is fine and no other koi are effected nothing external on the effected koi then the balance of probabilities is its an internal problem.

JKWishperer I'm no expert but I'm sure or 🤔 from what I can remember I've watched on a Japanese DR kodaama or something like that 😅 is salt or Epsom salt helps with 😴 🎏 and bladder probs. Hope you get to the bottom of it and my KH is always 10 and GH 15 even threw my 3 stage vyair and Big Blue..Also JKWishperer I think Aqua Source do a product that helps boost 🎏 Amunity and helps Prep yr pond for introducing new 🎏. Good 🤞. 👍

i would say it could be a feed digestion issue due to colder air temparatures, i had similar & was told to feed ordinary peas to aid digestion & this did help, my fish also was on its back for a few days, but eventually came round, good luck

I used to be in the US but now I’m in Thailand but where you are are there any kind of poisonous bugs or frogs or anything that she could’ve eaten

Seeing as it’s only the one fish with a problem ( hopefully) then I’d look to an internal issue? Unfortunately this is then harder to pin point. I’ve seen your last few entries and you’ve continued to feed all be it limited compared to either a heated or summer temperatures. I’d stop feeding as this particular fish may have a weaker digestive system to the others in lower water temperatures?

Salt bath would help. As soon as possible 0.5%.

This looks like swim bladder problem which can be very hard to treat but idea buy a small kids pool fill with water from pond enough for her to swim and add salt to see if that helps but maybe put her in the conservatory where it will be warmer for her as I say just an idea have my fingers crossed for ya
