I get a lot of questions asking what a DevOps engineer is and what I do working as one. I tried my best to explain what I do in this video. Don't be shy to ask me questions if you want to learn more.
If you want more context into how to get into DevOps and Infrastructure Engineering as a beginner, check out my newest video: • How To Get Started As ...

About me:
I'm a software engineer currently working at a really dope company in Silicon Valley. I'm about a year out from college where I graduated with a degree in Computer Science. This channel is all about helping people who want to know more about software engineering or computer science and for me to be a helping hand in any way I can.

@@Santoshnsk Not sure, haven't decided yet. I'm kind of tired of coding all the time and not really advancing in my career the way I had expected to. I can relate that I too worked on some areas of DevOps however there wasn't much development work. My role was more of a Operations and Support on the application side. So I haven’t declared a major yet. I am worried about math. Were you good at math? How did you handle that part of the computer science major? Also side note I’ve been in school for so long having a hard time picking a major. I can’t get into the engineering program so I decided maybe I should try computer science. Can you make a video somewhere along the lines of, how one would know if computer science is not or is the right field for someone? I’m interested in engineering things, inventing things, science but I also love managing and being in my feet. I fear that computer science might not be for me. The thing that I’m almost worried about is math.

Hi Sosa, you did a great job breaking down the whole DevOps, and the teams as well. Great job!!. I just have a question regarding git branching, code review. From what I got from you, seems like code review occurs after the build takes place and it runs without fail in the testing environment. Is that always the case, or can code review and merging also happen before it is ever build? Please clarify my doubts. Thanks
@heysosathedev
@heysosathedev 3 года назад
Hey Larisa, good question. The build happens whenever you push a commit to your branch, assuming that you've already setup the PR and the branch for remote tracking. Now, every time you push a change, a build will run which includes running in the testing environment. At the end of the build, you'll get a status on whether or not it passed all the tests. If it does, you can add engineers to review the PR but, theoretically, you could add reviewers at any point. I like to add reviewers after I'm done writing the code and when the tests are passing. But merging cannot happen without 1. building and passing all the tests 2. an approval from a reviewer. Hope that clarified things!

This was such a cool video to watch. So I actually find a lot of similarities in what you're doing to my job. A Shopify development team hired me to be a project manager. I've never been a project manager but was more a tech virtual assistant. Anyway I'm this middle man between dev and ops. That being said, I'm not nearly as involved with code and with the higher technical things that you're dealing with. Nor am I a developer (or want to be). I'm sort of wondering where I go to improve on this position... whether that be learning code or.. ? Any suggestions?

Great presentation. Quick question. Do you have to always come up with new codes written from scratch every single time or you can just modify preexisting ones? Thanks!

Hi Sosa, hope you remember the chat. I am working as a support guy in IT mainly on Jenkins job, shell scripting writing. I want to completely move to Devops but I scared as if I some how got the job and didn't able to make it there then? I like automation using shell scripting, Angular code, Jenkins. I am self learning kubernates and Docker. Could you help counseling me. Guide me that how should I enhance mine developing as well as Devops skills. What projects should I made?Is moving to Devops do I need to be good in Development part too.

Hi @Sosa, love the video and explanations! I'm a mid-level DevOps Engineer (more specifically in "Linux") myself had now 3,5 years of DevOps experience, but still feel like I'm a Junior in it most of the time :/ What is your approach or method on troubleshooting issues? I still have not yet developed a method of my own, but can still extrapolate reasoning on how or why an issue has occurred or reverse engineer issues by reproducing the issues in order to fix them. Would love to hear or your thoughts on how you solve specific issues! Thanks in advance! :)

I’ve started my coding journey, still in college at the moment. I’m hoping to get an internship this summer, but so far it’s looking like it’s highly unlikely. I’ve applied to 15+ places, still haven’t heard anything back or they reject me without giving me an interview. How can I get experience without having experience ? I know my resume isn’t as thick as others, but I’m not even getting a chance. Where can I start? I need some guidance please. So far I’ve been learning HTML/CSS, Python at the same time. Feeling overwhelmed because How can I remember it all?
