As far as sponsors go to me personally I feel if you’re a true fan of a creator you shouldn’t hate on the creator if they take sponsors. RU-vid is a job at the end of the day for some. The content is free, and they have the absolute ability to skip videos they don’t want to watch. So I say get that bag and make that bread. Sponsors are the way RU-vid works unfortunately and there’s no shame in taking a sponsor every now and then to help financially. At the end of the day if you can’t afford to live then there’s no videos. And I don’t think anybody really wants that. Best of luck to you and your wife. Yall got this!

Well put. I believe Jeff that you have a very high sense of ethics and are extremely conscientious as to a lot of things and this makes you a terrific person. You shoot straight and we feel it and know it and love you for it. If someone has negative comments about you trying to provide for your family and they criticize you for have an "easier" ( this is so subjective) job sorry but screw them and their opinions. I know that I wouldn't fault you for having over 500k followers and using that to better yourself and your family. It doesn't call into question your genuineness. Just because you might have to speak about a sponsor in a positive light doesn't mean that you don't also think highly about their competitors or also don't have things that you wish were different about your sponsors that makes you human that's all. But please don't give to much head space to the critics they're always going to be there regardless.

For mr i think my route is farming because i have to get food to survive. I livenin prime pepper capitol of usa but there is so little water in plac3s where peppers have to grow as you can imagine this is very problematic because land with water access is not cheap it turns oht theres these crasy huge paywalls. Its just sand so you neednto trench by the water and fill it with a proper mix of furtilizing agents like some coe poopy mixed in with some pitting soik and local sand for drainage and idk about you but its hard to get the 20 acres let alone transform the soil and then tend to the plants. It cost so much. I think the problem is because im in the jolepeno capitol yoh can buy a peno all year around for like 25 cents so you spend all this money in land and water control time and effort every day sunruse sunset jhst to sell 4 jolepenos for a dollar. Which actually is an intreaging deal to me because just one is all you need in the famiky soup to add the flavor and controlling the flavor is big. But its a numbers gake if penos are 25 cents the food makers want to buy my peppers for 25 cents so id have to plant a crapload and sell a crapload and thats so much work I wonder what the route is. I think about how i live surrounded by native reservations and americans of hispanic decent so i could he right in a good spot to make like this way good hotsauce but then I look at the advantage of your peppers dont go bad as fast if you turn them into a bottled product because you can store it for a year and age it waiting for it to sell anyway unlike milk. But the problem is you have to pay the bills and regular people like us struggle in this world. Its nitncheao to buy land or the stuff and place needed to bottle a hotsauce it ends up just being planning for this business you cant even afford the car breaks down the hospital bill comes in.

Nothing wrong with custodial work. One of my good friends retired last year at 60 from a up state NY college last year. He has full retirement beifiets, 2 pensions, everything. He was there for 20 years but he was making bank and now he is well off enough he moved himself, his son and his whole family down to Florida late last year. The whole university had this huge send off ceremony for him. He's a pretty modest guy and doesn't get extravagant things (he likes to go out to eat a few times a week) but he never has to worry about money for the rest of his life.

It will be hard to find a place that hires with no experience but you can start as a bar-back and work your way up quickly. Hours are tough but the money is absolutely there at the right spot. Just my thinking. Thanks for the videos man excited to watch everyday

Jeff please run a podcast with Vinnie , your pops, or some edc guys on youtube!! talk about knives, incorporate some of your life stories, etc.. I believe you can turn it into a nice brand and get some cool sponsors, make a patreon as well with some exclusive content (for example, story times, but obviously there will probably be a lot of outrage from the community). You got the charisma, experience, and hopefully loyal fans that will support you monetarily. Although the casual vibe is what drags us the most to your videos, I think its time to adapt to the current landscape of youtube to essentially "survive". Fan since 2009, best of luck to you and your wife!

My wife and I had a long time gig cleaning an office. Really she got the money and I helped her do it. I vacuumed the floors and emptied the trash and she cleaned the bathrooms and kitchen and we did it every Friday night for ten years. I actually enjoyed it because it was like a rhythm. I was in automatic mode and after working my full time job all week it was nice to do mindless work for a few hours and it helped her out. She’s Portuguese too like your wife. Stubborn af!

I've worked a Detention Center (County Jail) for two years before going to the road as a Patrol Officer, It was a humbling experience. It really teaches you how to communicate with people in crisis or people with little to no respect for authority. It's been a godsend in a lot of situations when I was on the road. I will say, if you do go that route, be prepared to step WAY outside your comfort zone. Many people are chill and cool, but you have that couple who want to challenge you on EVERYTHING. You get what sheets you get, what jumpsuit you get and what tray you get. Extras? We'll see what we got to accommodate you. If not? Well you got what you got. I don't want to say I was a tyrant when working a pod, but damn did I feel like one when I had to say no to the few that had the challenge me every chance they got.

Take a apprenticeship in a union in some kind of trade. I worked construction my whole life and at 35 i just took a lineman apprenticeship at a large electrical utility company. Best thing i ever did. Making a ton of money and yes i have weeks where i work 80+ hours. But i also have weeks where its just 40 hour weeks with weekends off. Theres tons of trades that need guys who want to work and learn. And once your a journeyman you can always fall back on your trade and do something else if you want.

@jackgraff420 Hey, if you can find a better/ easier way to make money than more power to you. I just took what kind of fell in my lap and ran with it. But yeah, there's alot of unions that pay extremely well and they will train you. You just have to be willing to work your balls off for a little while and take a little shit talk from some of the older guys.

I’ve been a janitor/custodian for 20 years and have done security either part time or full time for about 5 years. I’m currently an armed security guard at a city facility and I love it! I also did a short stint as a correctional officer at a high level (3-4) prison. Hated it! Hours sucked (mandatory 16 hour shifts) and very loud noisy prisoners. Jeff get your 20 hour private security gun license (2-10 hour weekend classes for $200-$300.) renew it every 18 months. Security on 3rd shift is usually awesome! Quiet after hours type work depending on what type of business you are employed at. Duty belt, 9mm semi auto with 4” barrel. Ammo. 2 spare mags.
@DG-nb6fe
@DG-nb6fe 3 месяца назад
6-12 months at any entry level security job is usually enough experience to get into a better paying security job like armed security etc. just gotta get started somewhere and deal with $15-$17 for that 6-12 months, almost always though you can easily pickup 32-40 hours overtime per month for an extra $1,000 per month gross income. Everyone is hiring nowadays for $15-$18 hour just depends what you are looking for and what it can lead to in 1-3 years.

Do not do the jail as a corrections officer , I worked at a county jail in south Texas for a year. Whole lot of bs, mandatory overtime and stay overs. 16 hour shifts sometimes 18 hour shifts. Suicide watch, fights, sickness, people bishing and moaning to you everyday about the silliest of things all in the meantime having to do security checks, help the nurse out, hand out food, assert yourself in dumb situations. So yeah long ass hours and mandatory overtime with no phone access. Yeah you have rewarding days but soon it turns to waiting for the day to end

I think you need to pivot. There has been a movement away from products, people don't care about knives like they used to. Steve Wallace and other creators are leaning into outdoors content, ride-along camping and hiking for people who don't have access to the outdoors. It's not that different to your current content, except they're talking to the camera in the forest or mountains instead of on a porch. I wish you the best!

Love how real you are with your viewers! i think the biggest reason for the comments on those videos is because it sounded a little hard to believe even though you did a fair job of giving a warning to do research and the understanding it was a gamble. Not to be negative, but almost everyone that moves is doing so while working a full time job. No sure how expensive PODS is, but from my experience renting one of the big UHAUL trucks you only need to do a few runs with it. Sure gas is expensive, but you probably are not moving more than 30 minutes away.

Nothing in the world wrong with custodial/building maintenance. I like to joke that I've got the greatest job security in the building, site manager included, as no one else really wants the job. Me, I don't care. My pay scale plus bonus is the same as any other hourly in my hours worked bracket, and I don't have a very big customer interaction component, so the job is pretty good.

Security is an easy-ish job as long as things go well and you aren't doing some crazy dangerous post. A good company will give you a set schedule typically. Make sure you are up to date on CPR, basic first aid (trauma med if its a sketch post) etc, as you will be the first person to respond to anything that happens on post. If you are the type where repetition gets to you it might be a bit difficult. Have not worked in a jail however I work in a first responder store so A LOT of jailers are my customers around a major metro area. I have heard a lot of horror stories. Not to say I haven't seen very sketch security posts.

Jeff you have been a staple viewing for well all of us in the knife and gear community. Not only that community but for the main community as far as my family. I live in North Carolina and my kids now live in Maine due to an ending in relationship with my now exwife. My kids stay with their mother but they grew up watching your videos with me so all of them subscribe to your channel and watch videos. In fact they asked me what I had thought about you being forced to move. I had no clue what they was talking about so I had to see for myself. We talked for hours about it and it was good. So late in fact the mother yelled at them for being up so late! They mentioned that they was talking to me about you having to move and she said “wait who cutlerylover?!…” she got into the conversation till the end. Who would have thought 🤣! You will always be a part of families. Might be small but still there. Thank you and on to the next adventure!

Hey buddy I've been watching for years, only comment hear and there. When it comes to prison job, and is it a prison, or a jail? Stay away from kitchen, and as far as maintenance do you have commerical/industrial plumbing, HVAC, or electrical experience? Because they use the residents for the cleaning, and small fix it stuff. A maintenance guy there is swapping out big old hot water tanks, getting the electric back on after 10 guys in this unit popped the socket. And as far as security take the over night if possible its a couple more dollars an hour. Good luck buddy. I spent my teens/early 20s learning several trades to make sure I wouldn't be in the situation you ae in. Ive got anxiety for you bro.

Over the past couple of years people have really changed their perspective on sponsored videos. They view them as necessary for their creators to make an income. I would definitely start doing them. Also branch out a bit. Camping and travel is huge right now. Also land/ pond management.

Jeff, I’ve been watching your channel for 14ish years I had no idea you were even making money off this. It’s never been obvious to me. You do what you need to do to make those ends meet. I’ll still be here. Besides sponsorships, consider reactivating your Patreon account. I’m here, man. You deserve it more than Nutnfancy, that’s for sure 😂. Come at me folks!!!

Jeff if you want advice on the security industry lmk. Generally speaking unless you find a spectacular agency, security is a tough industry. I own my security agency, and specialize in Investigations and Executive Protection.

The only thing ive noticed with your channel and over its progression. ( long time subscriber back since all the countycomm/balisong stuff ) Is that you are getting beat out with the "new" style of youtube videos, and the insane crews and production of these large channels. I really like your raw approach and personal feel of your videos. but just a small bit of advice i would give would be to incorporate a little bit of b roll shots and maybe some smoother lighting and audio leveling. I know this is a big task and takes a lot of time, and i really like how thorough you are. Just wanna see you and your channel do well.

I can only speak for myself but I have absolutely no issue with sponsored content being on your channel. You need to monetize your work and should be allowed to do so. Your viewers watch your content because they trust you in one way or another. If you believe it is reasonable to do this sponsored content, than you should and if your viewers trust you like they have shown in the past they do, they will stick around. I know I will.

Hey Jeff How about going back to US Postal Service. Sounds like you have time in the system and if you could get re-hired your time and Service would count towards a pension maybe. Just a thought. Getting a pension for the longterm might help you and your family. Im retired at 55 with multiple pensions LEO and military. Best decision I have ever made. You wil push through this time in your lifeb youre a good guy.

I'm curious, does ads pay way less nowadays compared to a decade ago? And were there certain videos that really made a difference? Can't wait for the next update. I know things will turn out great I just hope you find a nice place in/near the woods and with a yard and all that jazz where you can be happy.

I think there are just way more creators/content nowadays, and a lot of them are what you would call sell outs, so basically more competition. Jeff never does click bait videos, etc.

Jeff you do what you need to do. It is sad that RU-vid income has gotten so bad that you don't make enough with 591K subs to support yourself. I have heard from other creators that the pay level has gotten really bad. Thanks for sharing and GOD Bless.
