This week, we are keeping it close to home, and using this time to dig into what camera equipment I am bringing for three weeks of trekking in the Peruvian Andes.
Everything I've chosen has made it into my bag because I am certain it is light enough to carry for more than a hundred miles of high elevation hiking, and competent enough to keep up with my professional needs.

Pretty tough question, easiest answer though! The camera that feels like an extension of your arm - regardless of what it is for you! For me, it's my Fujifilm X-Pro3 with a 35mm f1.4 on it💯

@@eyeofalchemyhey I love that response 🤙🏻 I made a whole video about how we should shoot with a camera we love. The Xpro series is extremely interesting. I already have an Xt5 as a second cam, but if I could have found one down here for a reasonable price, I’d possibly have gone for the xpro. Love that ovf!

Andrew thanks so much for the support. I hope you enjoyed Peru, it’s as beautiful a country as I’ve ever seen! I had to take a step back from videos due to the lack of signal while over there, but should be digging into the adventure on the channel shortly. Liked the story you told about your two lenses. Made me think. Would have liked to see each lens in close-up as you talk about it. Same for all the accessories. But that's another shoot to add, I understand. I trusted your story because it came from personal experience, not sponsorships. At some point, your experience with Shimoda bags would be helpful information to have. And how you travel with them. Thanks.
@SamBugas

Mel thanks a ton for the feedback. I’m happy to add more shots if it’s what people like you would enjoy. I kept this video a littler higher level because I could make a whole video or more about each lens, as well as the bag, but next time I’ll make sure to build in some more close up shots. In case you’re curious, I’m now in Peru and the Shimoda bag has been excellent. I bought the 25 liter explore v2 because it fits well under an airline seat and allows me to travel with less checked baggage. Moreover it is an ideal hiking bag on arrival. I’ll do a video on it once I’ve used it more and feel more comfortable pointing out its pros and cons. Thanks again!

Love your lens selection. My go-to combo is a 70-300 and a 16-35. Alas, my 16-35 recently broke though, so I’ve been using a 16mm prime instead. One thing I never leave at home is my peak design capture clip! Mostly because it just stays on my backpack strap haha! I’d enjoy seeing a video on your hiking/backpacking kit Nice content, got my sub :)
@SamBugas
@SamBugas 6 дней назад
Hey thanks for the feedback! 70-300 is a crazy versatile lens. Can’t go wrong there! I like a good 16mm prime too, but I find myself panicking when I can’t do some zooming haha. Peak design clip is a super nice piece of kit. I have a camera carry system that goes in my chest because the clip hurts my shoulders on long days, but the clip is still the most seamless option

@@SamBugas Are you using cotton carrier or something else? I’ve looked into that for larger lenses. I understand what you mean on not being able to zoom heh-heh. 16 can definitely be too wide. Looking forward to your next video!

I was just watching a video by Sony covering a climb of Mt. Michaels in the Southern Ocean and I saw them using those fishing gloves lol. The conditions were pretty insane, makes me want a pair myself. It was the first ever summit and for a Nat Geo assignment too. Since you said something about mountaineering you should watch it if you haven't already!

Good vid! Helpful & informative. Been thinking about consolidating / carrying lighter. Love the 70-200 2.8 S but it’s a tank 😆 New sub 😎👍🏻
@SamBugas
@SamBugas Месяц назад
Hey thanks for joining! The 70-200 is such a beauty, but it would never fit in my setup because of the size. I love the 70-180 with all my heart because it’s relatively tiny. In terms of quality, I’ve never once thought it was lacking something I needed, even on the Z8. In all honesty, I don’t carry light, especially now that I’m shooting video more often, but I have to be as light as I can with the parts of the kit that I can so it all still fits haha

Just ordered a pair of the gloves. I’m wondering if they might be great trail running gloves too
@SamBugas
@SamBugas Месяц назад
Awesome! I’d say they could be, but may be a bit less breathable than you’d like. For really cold runs they could be awesome. They are goofy gloves, but what they do well, I’ve never found anything else that works as well!

Niice. I’m interested how you organize other stuff to bing on a hike as a photographer. Cuz hiking gear is a lot too. And do you handle it?
@SamBugas
@SamBugas 2 месяца назад
Hey great question! That may honestly be another video all together haha. I more or less pack my backpacking bag how I ordinarily would (heavier stuff towards the bottom, and closer to my back, lighter moving up). I carry my camera on my chest or on a strap, and I usually have one of those two lenses in the side pocket of my bag, if it’s not raining. The other is at the top of my bag so I can stop and grab it. To be honest, it changes often, and sometimes I even use a little camera cube towards the top of the bag that fits nicely. Depends a lot on the weather and the length of the trail. I hope this helps at least a little! Thanks for the support 🤙🏻

Stumbled on your channel and subscribed. Enjoyed hearing you walk through your travel kit, was wondering whether you thought about the OM System camera and lenses, given their lightweight, IP53 rating...don't get me wrong, not knocking your Nikon camera system, as I don't disagree with you that reliability is critical. Looking forward to seeing your videos on your trip.
@SamBugas
@SamBugas 2 месяца назад
Hey Steve! As an avid gear head, I’ve honestly thought about every single system (and used quite a few of them). Olympus is one I just haven’t used, but it seems like an exceptional system and I’ve nearly bought in a few times haha. My only gripe with it would be that I shoot in dark hours of the day more often than not. I originally shot with apsc and when I moved to full frame, I found that the ability to work with lower light improved quite a lot. So basically, long story still too long, Olympus seems incredible, but I think I’d struggle with micro 4/3 in low light. Honestly I think I’d love the Olympus, but don’t exactly have a reason to try it at this point. Maybe eventually! Really glad you found the channel and happy to have you around 🤙🏻
@stevearita3267
@stevearita3267 Месяц назад
@@SamBugas I agree with you on the sensor size and limitations of the 4/3 system. I bought an OM1 back in Dec and turned it into (for the most part) my wildlife camera, also just purchased the 150-600 zoom, really enjoying it, but in early morning trips, the sensor does have it's limits. Understand though for what you want to shoot, going with a FF makes more sense.
