Perhaps you're like me in that you have a rather small space to work in. If so, you might like to see this tour of my little lapidary shop. I have made plenty of changes since I last did a full walk though of the shop, so let's look at the current state of it together.
Below you can find some links to specific videos that I have on each of my machines.

Don't let my wife hear you say I don't need a big shop! I currently use a two car garage. Granted it's not all for rocks. I occasionally do some wood working too, but nothing worth making a video about. You're way more organized than I am. And cleaner too. You've obviously gotten your space utilization down to a science, we expect nothing less from you. A very nice video as usual.

I can appreciate and totally understand working in a small space, when we rented my work space was a 8x10 shed, then when we bought our property i bought a old school bus and that was my work space, every inch counts and yes it definitely has to stay clean.

Well you had me fooled, I thought you were in a garage. You have done a good job with your videos. Nice shop, you have an attention to detail and like a clean shop, I certainly respect this. I have a corner in my garage and I struggle to keep it neat. Some are better than others, or most are better than I. Thanks for the tour.

I did indeed appreciate your shop tour. Your enthusiasm sharing your shop with us is quite evident by your animated presentation, your skip in your step. One thing I've learned in viewing all your shop tour videos is that there is really no room for legitimate criticism. It's all about working within your means and it takes years to build a comfortable space that works for you. Thanks, Jared.

Thank you. It's a process learning what you need and what you don't and it's really not something that can be rushed and if anything I think that its a process best left to time and going slow with it.

A really nice shop tour. I love the thinking involved in the placement of individual tools and project spaces. If you can't pay cash, then you get the parts for cash. It usually end up being over engineered and would last a lifetime, but most of all it would be built the way you want in. Not going into debt is always the way to go. That said.... when is the next container coming. 😂😢😮😅😊. Be happy, safe and stay healthy to you and yours. 😷⚒

Recently moved from Ca. to Az., new rock shop is a 20x12 tuffshed. Unfortunately it's presently back filled with auto parts, and has no power. About the same size as yours. Hopefully have it up and running by spring. Good vids, keep it up.

Dang Jared! I wish I could hire you to come to Florida and set up my shop and build me some machines. What you have is so much better than most of the stuff Ive bought brand new! I’ve watched your Saturday night specials every dang one of them, I’ve watched 99% of your videos (not 100% sure I didn’t miss one) you have definitely educated me, enough to know what I want now, I am just not mechanically inclined at all nor do I have enough faith in myself to build like you can and do. You should be proud and show off all you have built and accomplished!.It looks amazing. Thank you for your knowledge, time, effort, and research once again! Sharing your space with us is very helpful and I certainly appreciate it. Hey if you ever wanna come to Florida and help me set up mine (lol) I’ll pay room and board… at my house, in Sarasota! You, Sarah and Mica can come and vacation. With a side of fossil hounding, sharks teeth, and sun 🌞 😂

Thank you for the shop tour. I know it hasn't been ideal for you, what with the weather there and the cold as well as the hot. Given a second shot at it would you consider doing it with a second shopping container, if you could insulate it first?They are fairly easy to insulate but it is a rather costly process. I've done one when I was still in construction, and a second container with a pass through from one to the other would give you twice the space. If you had the space to put one, that is. Insulation for those would be foam insulation and spray foam with paneling or even peg board over it. Even plywood would work. It's all held up with construction glue but insulates really well. It holds cold and heat out while holding cold and heat in when needed. Just a thought. Cool space and you have thought of everything! It's ideal for you, working within your constraints. Thanks for sharing!
@CurrentlyRockhounding
@CurrentlyRockhounding Год назад
A shipping container is better than nothing and if I had to do it again I still would not insulate it first as you're making a small space even smaller and the systems to properly insulate this containers is costly. Hopefully my days are number in this shop and at some point I will be able to move into something better suited for me.

FYI: Putting the insulation on the outside of the building and then covering it with some type of siding material is the best way
@CurrentlyRockhounding

I don't really think that's a very good option here for a number of reasons but I could see how many for a different type of building that might work.

@@CurrentlyRockhounding This is true. I’d spray foam the whole interior. 😂. Out here the elements are so brutal it would be nice because there’s no upkeep or roofing to worry about. And it’s always windy so things get battered quick. My giant garage takes hours to heat up and in the winter is full of cars. But that’s what I get for moving to the mountains
