'My Love is Always Here' is a bonus track from the 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I' soundtrack Limited Edition Collector's Box Set, composed by Alexandre Desplat.
actually the lyrics were written by my dad, Gerard McCann :) Alexandre Desplat then wrote the tune and harmony and they both arranged it for the choir, and then Conrad Pope orchestrated it - I love this song so much!!
Then Hermione’s voice came out of the blackness for the third time, sharp and clear from a few yards away. “Harry, they’re here…right here.” And he knew by her tone that it was his mother and father this time: He moved toward her, feeling as if something heavy were pressing on his chest, the same sensation he had had right after Dumbledore had died, a grief that had actually weighed on his heart and lungs. The headstone was only two rows behind Kendra and Ariana’s. It was made of white marble, just like Dumbledore’s tomb, and this made it easy to read, as it seemed to shine in the dark. Harry did not need to kneel or even approach very close to it to make out the words engraved upon it. JAMES POTTER BORN 27 MARCH 1960 DIED 31 OCTOBER 1981 LILY POTTER BORN 30 JANUARY 1960 DIED 31 OCTOBER 1981 The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death. Harry read the words slowly, as though he would have only one chance to take in their meaning, and he read the last of them aloud. “‘The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death’…” A horrible thought came to him, and with it a kind of panic. “Isn’t that a Death Eater idea? Why is that there?” “It doesn’t mean defeating death in the way the Death Eaters mean it, Harry,” said Hermione, her voice gentle. “It means…you know…living beyond death. Living after death.” But they were not living, thought Harry: They were gone. The empty words could not disguise the fact that his parents’ moldering remains lay beneath snow and stone, indifferent, unknowing. And tears came before he could stop them, boiling hot then instantly freezing on his face, and what was the point in wiping them off or pretending? He let them fall, his lips pressed hard together, looking down at the thick snow hiding from his eyes the place where the last of Lily and James lay, bones now, surely, or dust, not knowing or caring that their living son stood so near, his heart still beating, alive because of their sacrifice and close to wishing, at this moment, that he was sleeping under the snow with them.
O sleep, sweet babe, Though the snow is cold and deep around, Just sleep, dear babe, Through the wind's so keen and icy sound. Oh hush, sweet babe, There is nothing you should fear, Just hush, dear babe, For my love is always here. And I will hold you, safe in my arms, So no evil can touch you, You can come to no harm. Wake now, dear babe Now the night is nearly through, Wake now, sweet babe, There's a world that's waiting here for you.
We are learning this song in my choir, and I try not to remind myself what/who this song is/was for. Today, one of my fellow choir members explained to everyone how it was Lily's song to Harry before being killed, and I had such a hard time keeping in my tears while singing. Mind, I'm a soprano so my voice kept cracking and I was trying hard for the director to not look at me lol. Love this song.
I grew up with the films. I've still not read the books though I will some day soon. I re-watched the films this week and there have been multiple occasions or moments where the films would bring me to tears. This series meant everything to me growing up, now at 27, it still means everything. The beautiful storytelling, the real friendships between the actors, the real loss of amazing talented individuals, the incredible music. I can't listen to this and not get teary eyed.
It was visually more powerful not to use polyjuice. We saw Harry cry. We saw Hermione comfort him. This would’ve been lost if they had used other actors.
I don't know where to begin. HP touches me on so many different levels. It got me through my divorce, so much pain and loss. I’ve read the books at least 22 times (got to be a record) and still read them. Brilliantly written on so many different levels. Movies are great too. But the losses Harry experiences are so deep, so… heart rending. So many die in these stories as they get progressively darker. (Rowing must have gone through a lot of tough times). Remus and Tonks death hit me especially hard. I don’t know whether to hate Severus or pity him. The music here reaches into me and fills the empty places. Haunting…. beautiful. The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death. Always, Always.
I just thought about how I loved the christmas scenes in the early books, they were always so cheerful. And now this christmas scene is just so heart wrenching, yet beautiful.
I can imagine this is what Lily would have told baby Harry before she died, if there had been time. Thank you, Lily, for protecting your son. I wouldn't be here if it weren't for him. Long live Harry Potter.
This song helped me when my friend was hit by a train this past year. Now whenever I listen to it, I think of her and how she was such an angel. I don't think that I can really explain it, but I think that those who have experienced something similar can understand. The lyrics remind me of how much life she deserved. 15 is too young.....
As sappy as it may sound, I get all emotional listening to this. While I was growing up and the early films were released in the winter, we would always go to the cinema and watch them at Christmas - the scene in general makes me feel a little bit nostalgic, not at all helped by the fact that Harry and Hermione have grown up :') what a beautiful piece of music.
It's not sappy at all; I totally understand how it feels to get emotional when listening to certain pieces of music, whether in film or other media, and having them remind you of certain emotional things in your life -- besides: this was very well said.
My favourite piece from the film. I love choral-winter songs. I love snowy winters in my village. I love Enlgish winters when it snows and the hearth burns brightly. This is truly beautiful and yet...so very sad too. A very stark message of loneliness in a time when others are surrounded by loved-ones.
Just makes me angry why didn't they put the war memorial (which turns to James and Lily holding baby Harry) scene in the movie. This song would have paired so beautifully with it, coming from the nearby church.
Always have to cry remembering the great movies with this music. The time I read the names in the book of the person who died, I have to read it three times. I couldn't beieve it. Such a amazing time with Harry Potter.♥
This is too beautiful. I loved it so much in the film and I wish it was used a little longer in the film. I'm having flashes between Harry and Hermione in the graveyard and the end of Glory here. Desplat deserves the Oscar nomination for this.
Love this song - I’ve only now come across it. As I lay in my room taking in the music, I found my copy of the Deathly Hallows book right beside by my bed. I flip open the book at random, and lo and behold it was the Godric’s Hollow chapter, precisely on the page in which Hermione and Harry are admiring the war memorial. It felt like extremely sentimental. Love this tune and this story will forever mark my life.
Lots of memories!! This song touches the heart. It did for me. I remember all those characters in the past. All the one who passed on in Harry Potter. The memories of all the ones who passed on in Harry Potter witll be remembered.
In the books at this scene Hermione and Harry were disguised as a couple of muggles. Harry felt incredibly sad and wished he was “sleeping under the snow” with them. Harry suddenly wished he’d brought some flowers for them but Hermione contoured a reef out of thin air with her wand. Harry of course cried and Hermione comforted him... books always have more depth but I will say music makes it a lot more powerful. Very beautiful song uwu
This is incredible, for certain the biggest easter egg on the whole series, and if what Nell McCann says is true, then I am even more taken by this song and it's meaningfulness, Amazing stuff, I always come back to this
I know I can't sing at all but I don't care.... When I have my baby next year I'm going to sing this song to him/her because it is too beautiful not to. Plus Harry Potter is amazing.
so there i was watching deathly hallows again and this time i decided to watch all the credits and i see this song after "o' children" and i was like "what's that?" and of course my first solution was to look it up on youtube, glad i did. when i heard the snippet of this song in part 1 i had assumed it was a song that was already made before this movie came out and they just had the choir sing it...but i was pleasantly suprised to find out they made it just for part 1. thanks for posting! :D
42 years ago today, James and Lily had been murdered by voldemort, and the Potter family, were ripped apart. ‘The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death’
This should have been the main theme for both Deathly Hallows movies. I mean, I love Obliviate and Lily's Theme too, but I still prefer this. It just has so much heart and soul and I would have loved to hear it in so many scenes, big moments, small moments. I keep imagining a slightly faster version with sweeping orchestra for the dragon flight. I can't believe this was only written just as background church music that you can barely even hear...such a waste, really!
Yeah, but that just makes it’s placement that much more special and heart wrenching. Instead of having it scattered throughout the movie, we only hear a little snippet of it when Harry visits the place of his birth and his parent’s grave for the first time. And it isn’t just a random snippet of the song either, it’s specifically this one: “And I will hold you, safe in my arms, so no evil can touch you, you can come to no harm” And if that doesn’t make that scene even more of a punch to the gut, I don’t know what would
I ship these two even tho I like Ron and Hermione but I feel like Harry and Hermione had a better history and they had a chance when Ron fell in love with that one girl in the half blood prince (I forgot her name) what they could have done is they should have had Hermione still get jealous but she takes Harry as a “friend” then they dance but Hermione realizes that she loves Harry missed opportunity but that’s just my opinion.
The "And I will hold you, safe in my arms, so no evil can touch you" part (0:43) sounds so much like the "Atireo tera aterie , Impera tinaro inate tenore" part in a song from Era, the New-Age music project by French composer Eric Lévi (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Egy5BIypnlQ.html). I used to listen to that song as a child. Both beautiful.
Oh sleep, sweet babe, Though the snow is cold and deep around, Just sleep, dear babe, Through the wind's so keen and icy sound, Oh hush, sweet babe, There is nothing you should fear, Just hush, dear babe, For my love is always here. And I will hold you, safe in my arms, So no evil can touch you, You can come to no harm. Wake now, dear babe Now the night is nearly through, Wake now, sweet babe, There's a world that's waiting here for you.
Simply marvellous. I am discovering that Desplat is able to write such an intimist and poignant music. This tender piece is beautiful. Simplement merveilleux. Je découvre que Desplat est capable d'écrire une musique qui soit aussi intimiste et poignante. Merci pour cette si belle et tendre partition.
this hits me in the feels cause our dear časna(honorable) is leaving from this little town and i was in her choir for 8 years. I will really miss choir but I'll continue my singing with a smile on my face :')
Both Christmas hymns from the series were cut short in the films. Like in the first film at Christmas with the ghost's singing and this. But both times because it wouldn't fit in with the scene. This was over heard by 'Godric's Hallow' and I think its all it needed to leave its mark is its 10 seconds
I really kind of hope they replay the entire night when harry's parents die, and it's in Slow motion to this song. That'd be just perfect for the finale.
Esta melodía es lo más hermoso que he escuchado en mi vida, no hay duda que la letra es una canción de cuna que Lilly y James le cantan a Harry desde el más allá, una pena que en la película suena muy poquito aún así inmortalizó ese momento en mi mente. HPFanForever ♥
@MrsLuvthatsong Hermione and Ron don't need words to express feelings either. The reason they "constantly fight" is because they're confused about their feelings for each other and bickering is the only way they know how to display the passion they have for each other. With them, the bickering becomes routine. Its what they do to express affection. The reason Ron is so horrible in DH is because of the Locket. Once its gone he knows he needs to start showing Hermione how much he loves her. R+H
@yonythemoony I don't mean to be a bother, but it's not Desplat who wrote it for choir. Desplat wrote the first draft and Conrad Pope arranged it for choir.
