LS life , mine dropped pressure 3 years ago so I abandoned it in the yard . Still there and my au falcon is so much more reliable, 20 years and she's never stopped once.
I think the black tar substance is cooked oil stabiliser. If you take oil stabiliser somewhere cold it will make the oil extra thick & clog up the oil pickup then the flow will stop & cook itself extremely fast. If it's mineral oil, then it is literally tar now. Hope this helps
yep just like the various chemical additives used these days, people do not understand adding friction additives in factory oil spec 5w/30 ( no matter the brand) you run the risk of the additives and chemicals used which could react with the oils additives and thus do just what happened here? cheers mate.
@@izzy031096 that's cause RBS have 5x 8mm oil returns as apposed to JZ have 11x 15mm. Witch results in yes better oil flow. Factory oil pump pretty crappy also.
That would actually make sense , theres so much of it ,someone said it was cooked oil from cold , i dont believe new 5 day old high end oil would "cook" and then become a solid like that, no fuckn way.
I’ve owned a 2016 VFSSV LS3 for three years and twice in the last year it started running like crap without warning and service ESP light came up both times. First time Holden said the injectors can just pack up suddenly. Had them all replaced under warranty. A few weeks ago exactly the same thing happened but they had to replace cylinder 7 valves, springs, push rod and rocker arm. $2500 AUD this time. Anyone had this issue with their LS3 before?
Nah bro stock the ol LS go bang, my SS threw a rod with 31ks on it. Lifter had rotated too lol, probably first. Brand new engine in, just ticked over 95k's now no worries

Doing an aftermarket melling oil pump on an otherwise stock ls3 seems like a weird thing to do....I can’t bloody wait to hear what that random shit is. Sabotage has to be high on the list.
@@MayhemInc oh right....I would be more inclined to do new hyd lifters and trays but each to his own....could anything foreign have got in the sump when they had the front cover off for the cam swap I wonder? It’s real unlucky what ever it is mate.
I’m kinda leaning toward maybe a faulty oil filter or such… wonder if it’s worth getting a new one slicing it apart and comparing it to the old one that came of the car… amazing that’s there’s that much in the pick up… I mean worst case an silly but if it’s had the pump replaced could it be the original timing cover gasket sealant that they scrapped of straight into the sump…
Yeah feels like the kinda thing that would be on purpose. It looks a bit like the rubber that coats head MLS headgaskets too but doubt there is enough exposed to come off like that and others would have had same problem
Get some silicone oil 8000 or 10000 from a hobby shop for your viscus fan, they use it for diffs and shocks in rc cars and it's heaps cheaper then from Toyota need about 50ml from memory
Yer bro brought a 2003 mazda bravo, bounty back there but needed flatbed. Was 67 kms when brought. Never went into gear well clutch was shit. Fullas would try move my ute stall so touchy, thought i had a bargain. Na 4000 new gearbox rebuild n clutch kit. Bro its so different to drive. Like shoulda been' was original kms just sat for so long had to do lot of any thing rubber plastic. But yer happins sorry to winge. But i feel bit better haha'
Yeh this has to be what it is! Some type of oil conditioner or engine cleaner that goes in with the oil and just flush all the gunk and got picked up in the pick up and boom goes engine. This is why when I got my Commodore used with 5k miles I upgrade to the camero ss oil pan so I could see it anything was clogged in my pick up up give it fresh oil and filter. Also upgraded all the lifters and trunions and springs, basically all the things LS are known for ruining your engine once it goes bad. So all of that together should be solid. I rather spend a bit now and make it perfect and it runs forever or be cheap and wait then shut like this could happen. Keep it up bro! Wish you wasn't selling it but good luck!
First time i took the oil pan off on our 07 tahoe to replace a worn pick up tube O ring. Found some oil sludge in wear the pick up tube screen sits and sorta blockage. Cleaned the pan and pickup tube screen and oil psi is golden. Just needs a cam and new lifters in the future.
sad to here about motor with out feeling it and smell it, it looks like what happened to a truck motor we repaired and it turned out to molasses as the nieghbour didn't like the owner parking the truck there. hope it's not too costly for you .
Mate that's not some type of broken down gasket sealer as it looks like broken down silicone to me as that brake down into a paste over time. My trusty old 5.7L LS1 VX Calais has 360,000ks on her and has only been opened once for a set of lifters @ 234,000ks, But I change her oil every 5,000ks. Next year she gets a massive birthday as I have just about everything together to do a full bushes kit front & Rear with new joints & rack. Like I have a full rebuild kit here waiting on her to die, But she like piss off bro I'm sweet and she hits the rev limiter on a weekly basses.
If it's not silicone, and you've recently changed your oil then your most likely suspect is the oil itself, it is a possibility that you got a bad batch of oil especially if it's not a reputable American, German or Japanese brand, I suspected this when you said that it's a tar like substance, if a refining process isn't done right then it could leave a tar like substance in the oil.

Hmm.... what type of oil did you use? .... To me my first guess would be someone threw something in to quickly seal a head gasket issue, that crap you add to the oil. Very odd that the pickup was like that, never seen that before. Like did you use Synthetic etc... the newer engines run much hotter and the oil will seperate oddly if you dont use the right oil but I mean even with oil pressure dying it's an oil school engine there shouldn't be all that damage. Were you flogging it? ... Perhaps the tuning was not right on it and if that were the case without a retune it'd do the same thing. Easy engine to work on tho pulled mine apart twice over and rebuilt it (just cam changes etc) no failures to speak of.
Mild steel is generally a deeper tone but stainless is way nice doesn't rust and is very strong. At least on subarus ive found the stainless exhaust gets a crisper more exotic sound whereas mils steel sounds like the otara spec forry hitting gate at 3 in the morning after a tinny run.
Hi, I not long rebuilt my GTS LS3 $6500 it's back on the road, is it possible cam chain dampener broke up, it just doesn't make sense, I hope to be wrong sounds like someone may have put something down her. Nice unit. James. Sydney
@@94toxic94 I've had 2 XR6's and VE SV6 and the Barra with the ZF is a far superior engine/trans combo. Now have a 2016 SV6 and it goes well but the trans can't make its mind what gear to go into.
It'd be the plastic seal ring off the top of an oil bottle, I've had them fall off while pouring, but never been unlucky enough for one to drop in the engine. To be more specific its most likely the piece thats attached to the cap but snaps/tears separate when the cap is first removed, look at your old oil bottles if you haven't disposed of them already.
@@MayhemInc mate did you use any friction additives at all, because if you did, then because of the various chemicals used as friction additives they would have changed the way the oil is working under heat and stresses etc, which i think thats what happened the oil got hot to the point of changing the additives and thus made the oil into tar like substance etc. Like the various oil stabilizer additives would have changed IMO. cheers mate :)🚗🚗🚗🚗😎😎👍👍👌👌😀😀
Could be paint, have seen paint peel off surfaces after being submerged to a long period of time if it has a poor bond. Was there anything in the bottom that had been painted black at any point?
