Ethan, Ethan.....you missed one obscure fighting game in the Genesis collection....but I don't think you owned it: ETERNAL CHAMPIONS! If you don't have it, find a copy...you WILL love it! Also I know few and played these games as a kid.
MAN, I had so many awesome super hero games on Genesis I remember as a kid I never had Gunstar Heroes but I loved it when I'd play it at a family member's house. I didn't end up getting a copy till I went to a local game store when I was maybe 18. That was actually in Hamilton!
Sega Genesis was my first console. A lot of modern games are incredible, but none of them can compare to the experience you get from playing games with 16-bit graphics. They're so much fun.
Man this takes me back! The SEGA Mega Drive (I'm in the UK) was my very first game console. So many hours trying to beat Buzz on the Toy Story game....and could I?! No. I used to play with a joystick, though. I couldn't manage a controller back then since I can only use one arm properly and am in a wheelchair. (Gotta tell you, switching to a PS1 was initially hard as hell). Streets of Rage 2 is the first game that I ever completed solo. Love that shirt too, man! Love MK!
Huge Sega Genesis Fan and Collector here! I can recommend my Top Five best Genesis Finds that quickly became favorites! 1: Alien Storm 2: Rocket Knight Adventures 3: Fatal Fury 2 4: E-SWAT 5: Shadow Dancer
I really liked the way you started this video, showing bits of game play of some of the best games. I'm actually picking up a Sega collection from my wife's coworker today.
I was Christmased a SEGA when I was 10 and it was the best. My best friend had a SNES so I didn't need to get one. WWF Monday night RAW, NFL football 94 and world series baseball 93 were constantly played. I had no problem replaying Aladdin after beating it. The lion king level where your chased by the wildebeests was intense when you're in 5th grade. Thank you for this video
Awesome collection! I see you have two of my all time favorites, Skitchin' and Hard Drivin'. If you don't have Outlander you should definitely hunt for it. Its half driving combat, half side scrolling shooter. Also, do you have the 32X attachment for the Genesis? The Doom and Star Wars X-Wing 32X games were so good.
That's a cool collection there! The genesis was before my time but how can you not love classic games such as this? I randomly got a sega genesis from a nearby retro gaming store and tried Sonic 2 and it's cool to try it out. One game I'm considering to find is Michael Jackson's Moonwalker game, hard to find
Amazing Genesis collection you have. I have a small personal collection and I have expanded more games on the Genesis mini, 1st console model. My favorite game for Genesis is Mortal Kombat since that game was the first cartridge my dad bought for me when Funcoland was around in the 90's. I'm surprised you don't have Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 in your MK collection for Genesis. You should get it to complete the collection. Great job on this video, love it!
I just realized that Pinocchio is the exact same game play and level template as Aladdin! 🤯 Also, Saturday Night Slam Masters is an amazing game! The Sega version has the Barb Wire and exploding plywood weapons. SNES doesn't.
Three hidden gems I used to have carts for and would highly recommend (if you can find them): - Bio-Hazard Battle: Insect space-ship side-scrolling shmup, amazing soundtrack, difficult (1-2 players - same screen) - Bonanza Bros: Side scrolling heist game with non-lethal cartoon violence, not difficult (1-2 players - split screen) - High Seas Havok: A punishing pirate-themed action side-scroller, very difficult (1 player) Good luck with the growing collection!
Nice collection dude. A few games I recommend are Clue, World of Illusion, True Lies, NBA Jam, RoboCop vs the Termintor, Eternal Champions, Road Rash, Jurassic Park: Rampage Edition, Paperboy, Biohazard Battle, Virtua Racing, California Games, and Ms. Pac-Man. Happy Gaming!
Comic Zone was great! I didn't play it until one of the mega drive collections on Playstation. But it was great and the control scheme surprisingly deep
Let me know if there's anything to keep an eye out for! That's a pretty sick collection. Some of my favorites from back in the day were Mutant League Hockey, Road Rash 3, and Contra
If I showed you my collection you would flip out what I have, but for me I still have Desert Strike, Jungle Strike, and Urban Strike games from EA. I also have Revenge of Shinobi, Shadow Dancer, and Shinobi III. The best part Revenge of Shinobi is the one were you fight Batman (like) an Spiderman both as a boss fight and fight GODZILLA !!!!!! Awesome video, keep it going.
I remember the whole Mortal Monday gimmick. I ended up getting MK on Genesis bc I wanted the blood (even tho SNES had the better graphics, but NO blood). Bought the 6 button controller also.
Great video as always. I notice the audio mix with music is always loud when it is just music. Generally will have to adjust my volume for when you are talking to make you louder, then music kicks in and it is super loud.
One of my friends growing up had the Genesis and I used to go over and play Mortal Kombat with him all the time. I still remember the Genesis version's blood code to this day.
Sega genesis collector here. Still have my original model 2 as well (still kickin). MK 1, 2, 3 ultimate for life! Also love beat em ups. Golden Axe is a go to. NBA Jam TE is also a go to. Trying to pick up Punisher CIB but it’s gotten so expensive. You’d appreciate that I got Lex Luger, Papa Shango, & X-PAC to sign my Royal Rumble & Raw games (respectively).
The Genesis was the very first console my parents bought me as a child. I'm super envious of this collection 😂. For now, I'll just have to stick with ROM's, my Galaxy S22+ and my new Backbone controller 😅.
Rad video! I still have the old family Genesis as well. My collection is all boxed/complete. For me, needs to the have the box at minimum, preferably the booklet. Current priority hunt item is a complete Sonic & Knuckles in decent shape. Keep it up man!
Oh do you not have Duck Tales?? You HAVE to get that, it's great! Granted I've not played it in 20 years, but it's fab! Also, for racing, Micro Machines cannot be beaten. Honestly, it's incredible
Cool Collection of Sega Genesis! and Awesome video! As a retro game collector (mainly collecting on Japanese N64), I enjoyed this, every second of it. Suggest you McDonald's Treasure Land Adventure, as I believe you love McDonald's Happy Meal Toys so you might like this game as well
What an awesome episode! You are very fortunate to still have your originals. I wish I did, because I started with the Telstar Ranger! It was pong, hockey, tennis and two shooting games with the accompanying "six shooter"! Then I advanced to Intellivision. Oh, the good old days... Peace and Love!
My dad bought me a Sega. Sadly he bought me the cheapest one, so no game came with it. It was 3 months before I had a game for it. I saved up, and my grandparents took me to a place called Video Game Swappers, and I bought my first two games. I bought Joe Montana Football and Mortal Kombat. I still remember the blood code all these years later. A, B, A, C, A, B, B.
My favorites growing up were Streets of Rage, Mortal Kombat, and Sonic the Hedgehog. A game I would suggest is The Punisher, it's based off the arcade game and its mainly a beat em up game, but there are sections where you can get guns as well.
I remember playing the hell out of the Clayfighter games. The Lion King game is a must-have for the Disney collection. But the holy grail of SEGA Genesis cartridges: the original Toejam & Earl. All-time video game soundtrack.
I had a Genesis because that was the only place you could play Road Rash and, in my opinion, the absolute greatest fighting game ever and I still feel that way to this day, Time Killers. If Time Killers isn't in your collection, it should be.
You can fix carts you know! check the state of the contacts that go into the cart slot. Usually, old games have a build-up of dirt and oxidization on the copper tabs that plug into the genesis. ask your wife for an emery board that she uses on her nails and rub the contacts gently to shift the dirt, then clean it out with a paintbrush and try it again. There's a chance the problem is electrical, but there are plenty of people on YT with examples of how to dismantle and fix them. It may require tools tho. Revenge Of Shinobi was a game I loved on the Genesis, as was Golden Axe and E-Swat. We called it the "Megadrive" in the UK and our carts were a different shape, but you could remove the plastic edges on the console slot and play any cart from, any territory. I also changed the LED in mine to green just to be different :) And sorry Ethan... but the SNES had WAAAAY better games. Super Mario World, Super Metroid, Star Wing, Zelda III (This is a Life-changing game)! Alien3 and Streetfighter II....and of course Mario Kart!. That was my childhood (i was 21 at the time but i still havent grown up)
Does anyone else remember Sega Channel??? Literally new games every month and all you had to do was plug it in like a game and boom 100 of games right at your fingertips.
Ethan I think you would love Mutant League Football, Mutant League Hockey, Enternal Champions, Road Rash 1-3, Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master, The Revenge of Shinobi, Shadow Dancer: The Secret of Shinobi, E-Swat, ToeJam & Earl, ToeJam & Earl Panic On Funkotron, Alter Beast, Golden Axe 1-3, Kid Khameleon, Afterburner 2, Space Harrier, Space Harrier 2, Decap Attack, Dynamite Heady,Ristar, Sonic & Knuckles, Sonic Spinball, Sonic 3D Blast etc.. to name huge handful of cult classics.
Nice! I still have my original Megadrive (Genesis) from when I was a kid, has the random volume button. Have a few original games and multiple controllers, I bought the multi-tap for Bomberman, although I didn't think it was as good as the SNES version of Bomberman. Mickey and Donald's World of Illusion was a lot of fun
Great video Ethan! As far as Disney games that I would recommend that I didn't see in your collection titles would be, Maui Mallard in Cold Shadow, World of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, and Gargoyles
Really fun video. I don't know if I recall it ever being mentioned on previous Toy Hunt VLOGs, but are you using an app like Gameye (free but has limitations in their catalog) or CLZ (paid) to keep track of the games you have? Since you always have your phone with you it comes in handy when you come across a game you wonder if you have or don't have, and can just search for it from your collection. It helps me a lot as I also still have my childhood Sega Genesis and I go nostalgia game hunting now and again. Mutant League Football and Mutant League Hockey forever.
So many throw backs, loved it ! my fav game though had to be Rocket knight though, If you ever get the chance to play it I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
Yes please make more video game videos! As a gamer, i recommend these 2 games: Polterguy and rocket knight adventures. I promise will enjoy them and honestly laugh your butt off with Polterguy.
I had a Mega Drive 2 (what the Genesis was called in the UK) and loved playing Sonic 2, Primal Rage, Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, and Revenge of Shinobi (those last three I had as a 3-in-1 cartridge). For a recommendation, keep an eye out for Rock 'n' Roll Racing.
I'm a simple man. I see Ethan Page. I see video games. I click. But seriously though very cool collection the genesis was before my time so being able to see what it had and just what people were playing at that time is really interesting to me.
Ranger X, had it as a kid. Basically, contra style game with a mech and controlled jet fighter. I guess it was on the rare side and can get expensive to get now. People online now say it was one of the hardest games on the system.
Ethan, this was awesome. I’m 42 and have my Sega “Mega Drive” (which is what the Genisis was called in Australia) hooked up with My SNES to play together with my teenage Daughters. It’s great nostalgia and family fun. We are huge MK fans aswell SO DUDE YOU HAVE TO FIND A COPY OF “ULTIMATE MORTAL KOMBAT 3” hands down my favourite game of all time! There is a game I highly recommend. “Zero Tolerance” First person shooter Amazing! I have loved watching to your toy hunts and will continue, but this was awesome. From Brisbane Australia Cheers Josh PS I tried your code in Temu and it says “sorry code not valid” so might not be available in Aus.. cheers
Sega Genesis was my life. I never owned a Nintendo just Sega Mastersystem and Sega Genesis. Genesis Disney games were probably the best group of games. Tailspin, Aladdin, Little Mermaid, Toy Story were some of the best games I ever played.
Any cartridges you have that don't work you might be able to open and fix fairly easily or even do some kind of collab with another RU-vidr who fixes old games and electronics. If you don't already have them I would recommend Rocket Knight Adventures, Phantasy Star 4, Jewel Master, the Golden Axe games and Shinobi games. I'm pretty sure I saw in a previous vlog you had gotten Gunstar Heroes.
Very awesome collection! Ethan, if you love fighting games, I highly recommend Eternal Champions. It is super fun, and if I remember correctly, each stage had a special environmental kill. For me, my personal favorite Sega Genesis game will always be Sonic the Hedgehog 2, as that was the first video game I played all the way thru and beat! :)
It *always* shocks me how many games there are on these old systems. I've been thinking about starting an N64 collection, but the amount of games for it is just so overwhelming. When I start a collection, it will be N64. But if I ever start a 2nd, I have to do Sega Genesis, or PS2... ugh so many choices, LOL
amazing video and some outstanding games alot of nostalgia on this video, also i second temu there amazing really cheap and great quality, keep up the good work
I had this console but over here in the UK it was called the sega mega drive 2, I had a bunch of these games but to add, rock and roll racing, desert strike (Charlie would love) jungle strike, micro machines, revenge of shinobi, golden axe, NBA jam, FIFA 95, road rash,
I still have my Genesis. I honestly play it daily. I mean.. it's really only still hooked up so I can play Beavis and Butt-Head everyday 😅😅 but that's just because that is what I collect, it is totally okay to be obsessive over a cartoon, i promise haha! I love other games as well, Mortal Kombat, Sonic, so many others. I really need to get my hands on another copy of Maximum Carnage though. Great video!
I owned a Sega Genesis. I loved it to death. I can’t say i had a favorite because i had multiple favorites. I loved Vector Man, Contra Corps, Castlevania Bloodlines, Maximum Carnage, Super Street Fighter 2 The New Challengers and I loved Power Rangers The Movie lot more than the SNES version. I can’t say that SNES or Genesis were better than one another because there games on each console that I treasured.
Saw ya today at MD Toy Expo I had a USA red, white, blue 90s Spring Zip Jacket on you were right next to me toward the front when you walk right in the building at a table to the right talking to a guy with a pony tail You looked right at me I was right next to you lol you had a bag in your hand it was around 930 or so. Then you were near me at the guy who had all the moc hasbros, and LJNs table. Hope you found some good stuff.
So you made me want to find/buy a Genesis and games again…I’ve actually owned all three versions at some point in my life but sadly would sell them for various reasons..
Sadly, Sega Genesis was so popular in my town, they were always sold out. I never got to play one till they released the mini with the preloaded games. My first game system I had was SNES and I see games I had on that system I didn't know wee also on Sega. Ones like Disney's Aladdin, Batman Returns and Forever, WWF RAW, Virtual Bart, Spider-Man and Venom: Separation Anxiety, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (sans Tommy) Lion King, Animaniacs. Sadly, due to financial issues, I have had to sell my SNES, N64, PS1 and @ systems, as well as my SNES and N64 games. I still have my PS1 and 2 games, but only because I have tem in a CD drum and threw away the cases. But I can't play them till I get another console. Hopefully that can happen for my 34th bday this coming August. But keep playing and keep hunting. Always love these vids especially when you include the commercials for the toys or games.
My friend, PLEASE make sure the volume levels are even. Been my only complaint about your videos. The music is always so much louder than anything else in the video, esp your speaking voice
I had a few of these games. I remember a lot of them but only remember having and playing a few. Alladin which still gives me nightmares, Mortal Combat, that somehow gives me less nightmares, Power Rangers, Sonic 1 and 2, and Sonic and Knuckles, The Junglebook, and I think I might of had a Yogi Bear game
If you haven't tried it, I highly recommend the Disney game World of Illusion. It's a successor to Castle of Illusion but includes the option to play co-op with Mickey and Donald.
