after over 2 years, 200+ hours and an ungodly amount of procrastinating, my final level of 2.1 is complete - and my god what a journey this was.
back in 2021, i had an idea to create a level using a song chosen via RNG, i thought it could be a fun idea that at the time, i didn't think had been done previously; typically people have a song in mind for the level they're building, but i decided to leave it up to fate to decide what i'd be using. thankfully, i actually got really lucky with the song i was given! i typically work better with more atmospheric stuff, so this was definitely a welcome surprise for sure.
little did i know though, that i was gonna be sending myself on a 2 year journey of on and off building, procrastinating and struggling with ideas from part to part; working with a rainbow colour scheme is simultaneously quite liberating but also quite the challenge when trying to keep consistently fresh and unique designs across nearly 2 minutes of gameplay.
words cannot describe how proud i am of this level, i think it is a perfect showcase of how far i've come as a creator in terms of design, effects and colours, and i'm so happy to finally have this done after what feels like forever. i'm also very proud of my optimisation with it too, with it almost being only 500 objects per second.
special thanks:
- huge thanks to rynoxious for being there to help out when i was really struggling with certain parts, he helped mostly with the wave and ball at the "drop" and did some of the improvements to the earlier parts!
- shoutout to linear as well for coming in clutch with the asymmetrical dual gp at the end, since i was having a hard time coming up with anything he lended a hand at the best time!
- thank you to unerve for doing the main text for the endscreen last minute, i don't think i'd have the patience to do stuff like that so huge thanks :)
- tm and the absolutely for playtesting the level for some balancing tweaks and bug-fixing (and also finding some fun swag routes!)
this will likely be my last level of 2.1, its been an awesome time building stuff over the past 4 years, and i can't wait for 2.2!
i anticipate this being rated medium demon - though there is a chance this could be a hard demon lol
