After many requests about how I modify the CANON CLI-8s and CLI-42 carts I put together this little demo on how I aproach the process.
Hopefully it will be clear and show you how easy it actually is to do.

Amazing and very well explained video. What size is the drill bit you used please? I didn't quite understand it when you mentioned it. Was it 5/32?. That is close to 4mm. So, would 4mm drill do the job? Thanx

Great video. You talked about acquiring and using a second set of carts in another one of your video's. I would like to purchase a 2nd set of carts , so i don't want to have to transfer my original Canon 42 chips to a new set. a.) How can I get a second set ? b.) Will I need a second resetter ? Thanks for your generous consideration, Sincerely .....................

hello Jose, Thank you for all your input and work with the Canon Pro 100. I do have 2 questions though. First. Why don't you like the a hole drilled in the top of the cartridge and what benefit is going through the process you describe? Second. Wouldn't be easier that after you remove the ball you take the razor you show and trim the bottom of the plug a bit so it fits and seals.? Again thank you and I am continuing to watch your vids that definitely help me get 100% use out of my Pro 100. PS sorry if these questions have been asked before !
@cheo1949
@cheo1949 7 лет назад
The first answer is the thickness of the upper shell is about 1/64" thick. Not be enough surface area to provide sufficient sealing IF you screw up the and end up with a slightly larger hole. The second answer is that the actual sealing takes place at the lower end of the factory hole, specifically at the point where the ball seat is drop d out to 5/32" diameter. This systems has been figured out, tested and refined by other folks long ago and has been proven to be the best. Why try to fix what's not broken by using a possibly easier method that may not be as reliable?

Hi. Precision Colors clear plugs that were included with the refill kit don’t sit flush against the cart... they fit snugly but don’t go down completely. Is this ok?
@cheo1949

Did you drill out the hole to 5/32" like you were supposed to after removing the ball?

Jose Rodriguez yes i did exactly like you said. The white plug doesn’t go down to the cart fully even in the modified yellow cart sent by P.C.

If you drilled the hole correctly and the plug doesn't fit then you need to contact precisioncolors.

Hi, Jose I recently order the empty carts from precision ink to avoid having to drill the holes myself..when they arrived they had a note the says: the chips that are installed on these re-furbished cartridges cli-8 will not work on the pro-100..you carefully need to remove these and transfer cli-42 chips to these cartridges..I'm a little confused now because I assumed all I would have to do upon receiving these carts is use the little reset tool I purchased? Help please 🤔 Thanks

@cheo1949 7 лет назад
No! It Clearly says in RED right on the ordering section that you have to swap chips 32oz ICC Squezy Ultimate Refill Kit with Resetter, 8 Ready to Fill Canon Cartridges 8 x 4oz Dye ink with 8 Squezy caps, Ready to refill original Canon cartridges, Electronic Resetter Note: you will need the chips from the Canon CLI-42 cartridges,"Setups" are also OK
@cheo1949

CLI-8 and CLI-42 carts are physically identical. BUT the Chips are for different printers. The 8s are for the PRO-9000 MKII and the 42s are for the PRO-100 There are no CLI-42 empties anywhere that they could refurbish and reset so the only think available if the CLI-8s and soon there won't be any of those either. Watch the video I recently uploaded. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9jrIHKVqrKo.html

@cheo1949
@cheo1949 7 лет назад
Yes. Make sure you only shave off the left post. Leave the one where the chip slips is intact. If you some how damage the posts you will have to glue them in place making sure the chip is aligned to the posts.

Jose, every time I watch one of your videos I learn something new and end up with a new question. I'm not sure I've ever heard you say put tape on the vent hole when storing but I may have missed it in another of your videos. Will ink spill out of that hole if flipped over?
@cheo1949
@cheo1949 6 лет назад
The ink will not spin out. I have to correct myself a bit. If you mean to store carts after refilling for month? Then yes tape the vent. But My Refills do not stay unused for more than a couple of weeks max so there is no need for me to tape the vents. Actually it's best not to do it as you MIGHT forget to remove the tape and then that channel will run DRY and the print head can be damaged.

Great video. I've been looking into the Canon Pixima Pro 100 and came across your videos. Thank you for taking the time to explain how to refill the ink cartridges. for a person like myself would it be wise to just buy the deluxe ink refill kit from precision colors and just transfer the chips? i don't have power tools to make the modifications necessary
@cheo1949
@cheo1949 8 лет назад
+Antonio229 Except none of the kits come with 8 carts so you can swop chips to. It comes with only the one replacement for the original Yellow one. Which is the one that you most change the original! You do not need any power tools. Buy yourself s 5?32" diameter drill bit and drill out the hole by hand. Insert the bit and lightly turn it by hand into the hole to remove the bottom seat. You original Carts are the BEST option for total reliability! Transferring the chips actually takes more work than modifying a cart. But if you fell it is too much, ask Mike if he can sell you a set of re modified carts and then transfer the original carts chips. Make sure that you match the colors. Some of the CLI-8s will have to be relabeled as the PRO-100 CLI-42 color set does not match 100% the CLI-8s!

Hello Joe. I have taken the ball out and drilled (by hand) 5/32 hole. However, I am having great difficulty getting the rubber plug supplied by Precision colors to seat completely as I see you doing here. Mine stick out a bit on the top and I am wondering if this will seal the ink flow completely. I have redone the drilling (by hand) 2 more times trying to slightly increase the hole but the rubber plugs do not completely get flat as I see in your video. Maybe a 1/16" inch is still stick out. Suggestions? or am I ok?
@cheo1949
@cheo1949 2 года назад
As long as part of the plug extends PAST the hole into the liquid chamber you are ok.

Hi Jose! Thank you for all of these very helpful videos! So I am a beginner with all of this and am a little confused with the refilling process. It's not you, your explanations are very thorough...I am just really new! I have a pro 100 and am using it for a greeting card business with cardstock and just simple black lettering on them. What is the easiest way to refill the carts? Meaning, do I have to go through the drill bit process, flushing and all of that? You mentioned PC selling ready to go carts...what exactly would I be looking for on the website to get those? And then, what process would I go through with those ready to go carts, would I be able to skip a lot of this process? Sorry for all of the questions, I don't know much at all and am slowly learning. Any advice would be appreciated!
@cheo1949
@cheo1949 7 лет назад
Yes. You have to perform all the steps to modify the carts for refilling. The empties that you buy from PC will still need you to swap the original matching color chips to them. The learning curve takes time and patience. Just keep watching. Go to my PRO-100 playlist. Lots of videos answering all your questions. Everything is classified different subject playlists for convenience.

Jose Rodriguez ok thank you for responding! So if I want to have another set of carts, where is the best place to buy them and what exactly am I looking for? I looked on eBay, but I'm confused if what I'm looking for. There are a bunch from Hong Kong and at all different prices. I know you've mentioned not to buy the cheap stuff. I'd rather pay a little more knowing I'm getting the right stuff. Also, after getting empty carts I'm planning on getting the deluxe kit from PC. Along with a 5/32 drill bit, I should have everything I need, right?

Hi Jose - even if a small amount of swarf / dust gets into the cartridge when you drill the 5/32 hole i gues it doesn't matter too much as it will be retained by the sponge in any event?
@cheo1949
@cheo1949 4 года назад
There is no dust created. This is a very gummy plastic. Believe me nothing happens when you drill it.

@@cheo1949 Hi Jose just drilled 2 carts as per your video and the swarf came out on the drill - as I say i don't think that any debris would get past the sponge in any event. Great tutorials - many thanks. Don
@cheo1949

Also, don't forget the reverse helix of a drill bit. By its natural action will pull swarf out rather than push it in.

Hi, thanks for your videos. I have a question regarding modified CLI-42 cartridges. I drilled 5/32 hole, but there are some plastic shavings inside the cartridge, should I be concern about them and try to remove it or just leave it alone like some people say. Is there a way to remove those pieces of plastic. Thanks.

Joe, appreciate all your videos, they have been very helpful. I have a question regarding a CLI 8 yellow cartridge that I have flushed for future use in a Pro-100. How do you dry the sponge prior to refilling with the appropriate ink? Thanks,
@cheo1949
@cheo1949 8 лет назад
+trout479 I will dry by itself if you simplyt place it on a warm dry place for a few days. Or to expedite the drying process, make a little "Rope" by tightly twisting a sheet of paper toweling. Rubber bade one end of the "Rope" on to the cart so the Paper Towel "Rope" in in direct contact with the exit port sponge of the you wan to dry. Place it standing up in a warm dry place for a day or so. It will be ready to refil then.
@trout479
@trout479 8 лет назад
thanks for the reply, was concerned that moisture would be retained inside and cause problems with dilution of the ink.
@cheo1949
@cheo1949 8 лет назад
+trout479 If you have too much moisture you will indeed dilute the ink. Oftenit will also disruct the absorption of ink into the sponge.So I simply recommend you either use the Wicking onto the paper towel "Rope" or simplya setting them aside to dry on their own. This takes longer than the wick method.Often If I flush a batch of carts, I will let them sit on a tray for about a wekk until I need them.

@exceptionalnotary9529

Joe I have a choice between a 3.8 mm or 4 mm drill bit as I don't have a 5/32" drill bit. 5/32" is equal to 3.968 mm. Do you think I should use the 3.8 or 4mm drill bit as a replacement for the 5/32"?
@cheo1949
@cheo1949 7 лет назад
Seriously, just remove the chip on the cart and you will see that the compartment has this little slot in line with the plastic light pipe that matches the back of the chip's electronics. The back of the Chinese chip has around blob of black resin. So it is not going to sit flush unless you remove a bit of the plastic on the chip compartment. 3.8-4 mm is perfect and just take off enough material to allow the chip to sit flat. Remember to removed the chip carefully ( As shown in my videos ) so you can later reinsert chips without have to use an adhesive.
@exceptionalnotary9529
@exceptionalnotary9529 7 лет назад
My question deals with the hole that needs to be drilled after you remove the small plastic hub where you fill the cartridge... not anything to do with the chip.
@cheo1949
@cheo1949 7 лет назад
Oh I thought we were talking about the PRO-1! Sorry about that. You really need to nail that 5/32" diameter equivalent down to as close as possible or the hole will be too large and the plug will not seal, which will create massive leaks. Contact www.octoinkjet.co.uk to see if they sell the proper drill diameter.
