Thank you for the many happy memories. I was the first female bartender at the Douglas House saloon in 1972. I met so many wonderful people up in Houghton-Hancock. I miss natures, majestic beauty every day, and I miss the natural sauna on the dock along the Portage River. I’ve posted this wonderful music video to my Facebook account.
It's a long way from the Houghton I came to in the fall of 1981. The road through downtown Houghton still had copper in the asphault aggregate. Not a single fast food place in town except the A&W in Hancock. No traffic lights. Two lane road to St Ignace at 55 MPH speed limit. It's become less isolated since, but I still love it there, it is a special place to go to school and live. I do not regret one moment of those years. I return as often as I can.
@@beckyTrendz Heyo! I am currently going into my 5th year at MTU. Getting my bachelors in Mechanical Engineering and a minor in Manufacturing. MTU stem degrees are not easy in the slightest. Lots of homework, difficult classes, and complex exams/teaching. But, it's all worth it as the rest of the world recognizes MTU in producing very smart, adequate, and proficient graduates for the real world.
Excellent job! I graduated from Tech in 2007 and this video brings back some fond memories. MTU should use this as promo material for recruiting students!
I graduated from Michigan Tech in 2005. My initial plan was to spend 2 years at Tech but ended up spent 7.5 years there to pursuit all three degrees (BSc, MSc, and PhD). I see many familiar palces. This video brings back lotta memories.

I graduated in 1994 from MTU. seems like this place is a fun place now. All I remember is 10 week quarter, studying in MUB, out of state tuition. harsh winter and being broke all the time. But it was still fun times. I want to go back there again one day.
Colton-- Can't say enough about this great piece of work...the composition of images, editing, music, crazy range of activities, so much more. I echo much of what the commenters said about enthusiasm, pride, tears. I'm an '88 and have two boys at Tech now. Wish I could be there all the time, but life has other things to say about that idea! More power to your dreams for having a place to return to. Thanks for your contribution here.
This is amazing. Thanks for sharing. I have a second year student there now and can only hope he gets to experience all this as well. Whenever I'm out for a visit I wish the whole world could see that amazing place!
Class of 1986. The 80's up there are hard to frame in todays world. No internet, no cell phones, 55MPH speed limit on narrow concrete bumpy roads that had no passing lanes added. In the early 80's the trains still ran across the bridge to the Keweenaw. The tracks are gone now. It was a different time and place. It is such a great place still. I wish there was jobs, I wouldn't have left.
I have been admitted for the spring 2025 semester. Going to do a masters in Engineering Management. Just waiting to get my visa. I am from Zambia, Africa. Best video.

@@alyssanorthey Canyon Falls, south of L'Anse and just south of Alberta. Nice place. I was there last summer. Tried to catch some fish under the highway. Beautiful water, especially downstream of the Hwy.
@@ttgttg8065 the school isn't a pushover, if you're stupid/have bad habits then it's quite difficult. Me and my friends all did very well in high school and we all have high SAT scores and 2 of em nearly flunked out. Not saying the school is impossible at all, it's actually kinda fun, but it actually requires effort
@@ttgttg8065 not stupid as in academically, stupid as u have no cognitive thinking skills or logical thinking. For example we had this massive project due at the end of the semester that required us to build and program a working mini computer (comp engineer major) and my friend decided he could put it off til the last 3 days. Little did he forget that there were specific parts for his idea that he had to order online and even with prime shipping (2 days) off Amazon he'd be left with only one day left. So he tried to improvise out of it, the result? He failed the project and semester. Real world experience requires u to think ahead, now for papers and essays he got what was essentially B's and A's but his habits screwed him over because he didn't allocate time towards his very important project.
