There is absolutely nothing wrong with discipline. Everybody don't need a whoopin, but the punishment should match the infraction. If you're not gonna control and guide your kids, don't have them! I'm almost 60 and still remember the beat down I got at church on a red Coca Cola bench when I was 3 years old for acting up in church (it was downstairs out of the main sanctuary). Trust me I was an angel after that.

Lets think about it, they have to sit in one seat for hours not knowing whats going on. On top of that some churches never have a set time for when they're leaving so the kid is just sittin there listen to a man talk about stuff the child doesn't even understand yet. The only other people the kid could talk to are other kids next to em, and if they do talk they get beat or scolded. A child is worried about running around and playing, its the same reason kids hate school why would any kid WANT to sit and idle not knowing when they'll get to play again.
The kids at our church love church when they grow up because we always give them something to do. They learn to play instruments, go fishing, hiking, skiing, go to theme parks, we even find them jobs. They're not just sitting in church every Sunday.

We sometimes forget the trauma this type of “discipline” left so many children with right into adulthood. Had no idea how wide spread this was. Thankfully it was not a part of my, no my friends, upbringing. Never even heard of it until I entered junior high.
Don't feel sad, we survived. Made me into a much better person today. I would never do that to my kids or my grandchild but that's how our parents grew up. At least mine grew up with much stricter parents than they were.

I thought that one day, I'll grow out of it but nah I didn't. Rather the more I searched, the more it solidifies my views. I'm not invalidating the existence of god and people's religious practice but I just happen to have different view as well. My life is peaceful without church or religion. I know the bible has something to say towards lukewarm people but there's an obvious counter for that.

It's not funny. It's quite traumatic actually. If you find something healing about knowing other people share the same experiences then sure. Just don't use this as a way to excuse the behavior from our parents or from you as a parent.
That's sad. We were disciplined not abused and understood the difference and appreciate our parents so much more for it. Unfortunate that some situations result in nursing homes.
@@bushybwoy the key is if the child thinks its fair for discipline. in my case it wasn't fair i was compared 24/7 even if i did a good job and it invalidated what i felt. i was yelled at, and even hit, backhanded, and ranted to for hours without no end which left me with a hard time processing what the real reason was for disciplining was, especially by my "adult male" figure whenever i said or did something that opposed what my parents thought, and they always thought they were in the right and never stepped into my shoes, as in their country, it was eldest paternal opinion that was always right and to respect them at all cost, brewing narcissism, when in fact, the children are the future of the nation and matter much more.

Oh wow! I haven’t heard this song since I went to an all-white Baptist church in college in Granville, OH. When they would bust this song out it was gonna be a spiritual jam!!! On another note: I can VIVIDLY remember my grandmother beating me and my cousin in the back of the all-black AME church in Tallahassee, Florida circa 1978-1984 lol😂. Man! That's really horrible. I hate It when they make us fix our faces. I have luckily never been beaten by my mom before, she's never laid a hand on me and is awesome. But I can't imagine how terrible this must have been for other people
Oh it’s terrible, and I realize how terrible it can be. I’ve been hit a lot since I was 2 and luckily it stopped once I hit age 14. I’m 15 now and now all the yelling and hitting and shaming I’ve endured as a YOUNG young kid has taken a serious toll on my mental health and illnesses and disabilities. I know for a FACT that God doesn’t approve of harming your children to correct them and the old school people who did this to their kids will be judged HARD for it
Stuff like that made me loose my faith. My christian parents are so two faced. They’ll act like sinners in the home and to my face but they’ll put on a big happy spiritual smile at church and act like angels. Also how child abuse is like so normalized in Christian circles? You can’t tell me that hitting a kid and beating them produces any results other than pure fear of failure and fear of getting caught.
