A bit late in the year I got into my "fixedwing" phase again :) It's more challenging than flying a 7" drone up a mountain - but also more rewarding since you "feel" the wind, the air, the magic moments of flight, aerodynamics - all at once. And you can soar back home from great distances without the range anxiety that comes with copter longrange flying...
Started with my Mars 1200 plane - but then also converted my ARWing Pro to DJI O3 and NO additional Gopro. Tried to achieve CoG without deadweight in the nose and packed the wing full with 18650 cells to get the most flighttime out of it. With 1250g it's still not heavy - and 3 LiIon packs in paralell have better than usual performance as well!

After flying quadcopters for the last couple of years, I just recently jumped into fixed wing FPV! It is awesome! I would love to fly a location like that one day! Amazing!

You're making me feel bad Mario.. I've had an ARPro in the box for almost 2 years now, and I've never flown it. My excuse was I didn't have a big enough battery, and I was afraid to put one of my new Air units in the plane. Well, the Air units are older now, and I see you did just fine with several quad size batteries. Guess I need to get back to my work bench now. Nice job

yes, give it a chance. first you will think it flies weird, but once you get used to it, you'll see why so many liked the ARWingpro. a few smaller packs are good to have a flexible CG and with 3 it worked well. maybe I could even fit 4 of these in, but with 9000mah I already get at least 45mins of flying :)

Thanks Mario. I've looked at that peak so often. Last year with copter it was within reach - but I had to hurry back to have enough battery left. With the Wing I could fly there, back, make a few dives, visit the next village, practise landing approaches... 30mins flight and 33% left in the thank ;)

Hi! You have some beautiful mountains in your area! Where I live all the higher mountains are National Parks - so there is no flying allowed at all. I also fly AR Wing Pro for 2 years now and I made some mods, which you may find interesting: - To move CG forward, I have cut off flat the rear "wavy bump" for the motor mount, it is now flush with the rear end of the fuselage. And made some DIY motor mount there, using a piece of PCB board + some foam and lots of glue. This, to my surprise, turned out to work as a weak break point - I can re-glue the foam at the field if needed, which is cheaper than a new prop. But this only happened 3 times, after landing on a hard rocky surfaces, never on the grass. - I have replaced the motor with low KV E-Max MT2808 850 KV Motor. Now I have 45 mins of flight time with only 4400 mAh of batteries (2 x 2200 4S LiPos running in parallel). AUW, with DJI Action 2 cam on the front, is now 1080 g. - I use very substantial Master Aircrew 10 inch propeller. (not folding) It never breaks, even after 2 years and ~70 landings. - Oh, and I have laminated the elevons using some cheap laminating foil for documents + an iron, and then mounted them with custom hinges made of fabric tape + superglue. Now the control surfaces are much stiffer and can withstand +200 kph dives with no shaking/oscillations.

@@Rcschim Love it, enjoy the nice fall weather. Is this your "backyard"? or do you have to travel to get here. I'd love to see how slow and close you can work down to the ground during that nice long range dive. I've been slowly working on my own ability go get lower and lower at distance. Cheers!

@JamesDowningFPV it's only 15 min drive. Yesterday I was on another spot with s good dive line. But with wings it shakes so much compared to a copter that I also flew in that location. Plane is faster tho;)

@@Rcschim It sounds like you've found one of the limitations of INAV for fixed wings. It doesn't have airspeed-based PID attenuation. So when you dive or climb, the PID controller doesn't attenuate as it should! There's a workaround using the programming tab and employing the PID profiles.

But then I also have no correction of control surfaces against unwanted gusts... thanks for the idea tho, I will check this out. maybe I just need a bigger, more stable flying wing :)

on my drones I usually have my right index finger ready to hit the RTH button (it's in good reach on the Tango2) - on planes I use the TX16s and there I need to reach a bit - but also I'm not so scared there for some reason. Also the planes have the advantage of being able to glide home if the motor fails. Those servos tho - they cannot fail - not one of those 2 ;)
