I found your channel in my feed because I have been searching for tutorials on ways to apply gilding to a vintage velvet fabric for a Victorian style keepsake box I will be making for a dear friend. Your work is gorgeous! This piece is very beautiful! So glad I found you, and I subscribed immediately! Thank you so much! Truly inspirational! Lisa

Thank you very much for the kind words, I’m really glad you’re enjoying the videos! I’ve never gilded on fabric before so I don’t have any tips unfortunately, but it sounds like a beautiful project so please share some pics of the finished piece because I’d love to see it :)

Those rolled up sticks you're using to clean the excess gold off is called a "tortillion" or "blending stump". They're paper, and theoretically you can roll your own, but I just buy them. Artists use it to smooth out and blend colored pencil/graphite/charcoal/etc .

That's an incredible piece of work! Really happy to have sat through that from start to finish. I have also attended the Ceremony of the Keys, I was then serving and went there on a date. Got a bit cheeky and flashed my ID card at a Yeoman Warder and he said, oh I was in the Royal Navy too! One call later and he said come back this evening! Never got a bar invite though, well done!!

Thanks very much, I’m really glad you enjoyed it! 🙏 The ceremony is something special. I feel very privileged to have seen it and spending the evening in the bar was something that money can’t buy. I’m honoured that the sign is hanging in there now.

I was wondering about CNC. 1. Apply the vinyl 2. Cut with a drag knife. 3. With a pointed tool, get the CNC to start the picking. ie, go into a corner, and move in a direct that lifts the vinyl 4. At this point I suspect you have to hand pick the lifted tabs. 5. Same for the glue, apply, use the drag knife to outline and the pointy tool to start the lift. 6. Drag knife again in the remaining glue to see if you get a controlled chip. For example a line for the stem of a leaf. Would that work?
@happygilder
@happygilder Год назад
It might work. My main worry would be if the glass wasn't perfectly flat, the pressure of the router blade would break the glass. Unless there's a pressure setting on there you could use. Let me know if you give it a try!

@@happygilder Can you laser vinyl? Another thought.
@happygilder

@@Nickle314 you can but it’s like setting off a glue bomb in your laser. I did it once and will never do it again

I'm curious; how would you acid etch in-place on a vertical surface? I would like to see this on a thick old door we have in our shop. Thanks in advance.
@happygilder
@happygilder 9 месяцев назад
I would take the door off and do it horizontally. If that's not an option then dammar embossing gives a similar effect. I've made a video about that process too
