@@JakeGigsI actually feel the same as you Jake. I found that I enjoyed dragons dogma 2 much more than unicorn overlord and my level of hype was the opposite before I played them
Just going to talk about the 3 games that i really played. For engage i actually like it quite a bit and i think its maps are better then 3h which just felt really big and wasted my time, the turn wheel thing yeah i can agree on that and personally i dont see a reason to have casual mode if the turn wheel exists. I felt i ran around way less in engage then i did in 3h and the animal things i dislike because dogs are the only thing worth grabbing (they give you ore). Unicorn overlord is probably my favorite game on this list, i just had so much fun making squads and would like more like it. Daybreak i guess i was disappointed with? Looking back on it i wasn't really invested in it all that much and none of the characters even broke into my top 10 for the series (5 are from sky, 2 from crossbell and 3 from cold steel). The thing about the 4spg i kind of dont get as i just felt like i was doing what I've been doing in the series all along, im not really understanding that part. Gameplay yeah i dont think its the best, the new turn order thing sucks as it completely gets rid of stealing bonuses and is hard to follow (which they kind of fixed in 2?) and i didn't like that and by the end i was just spamming arts for the followup. As for how breakable it was, i kind of broke cs 1-2 pretty hard with the Mobius master quartz. I was more excited seeing characters i already knew (like renne) then anything which i don't think is a good thing (Van is cool tho)
I think engage was good when it during a lot of the strong map design for the most part, so I don’t think the game was irredeemable, but yeah I just hate what that turn wheel represents for the series. I don’t mind when it’s limited, but it was just too crazy in this one. I admittedly did like a lot of unicorn overlord I just wish there was more of a tighter balance when it came to encouraging squad diversity when it came to making them, rather than just making a bunch of all purpose squads. But yeah I still think the game could be super fun at times and I’m excited for the future of the series if it ever gets a sequel. Daybreak yeah I just wasn’t really into that one just based on what I said about it for the most part. Definitely think the arc has tons of potential though and I’m super excited for kuro 2 just based on what you and others have said about it. But yeah other than that thanks for watching and thanks for your comment!
The problem wasn’t necessarily the lack of challenge because I think at times it could be pretty tricky, I kinda think the problem was a little bit more in just how it was designed to an extent, plus the fact that it was so hard to not be overleveled just due to the open world map. And I play games as blind as I can for the most part so I didn’t really know about the harder difficulty option that unlocks when you beat the game.
I love Persona but P5T was kinda bad and felt kinda pointless. Even on hard difficulty the game was ridiculously easy and the story really didn't captivate me or felt like it was necessary
yeah..... I kinda agree. I played on nightmare and while there was a bit of thinking done sometimes it didn't really feel all that much like nightmare at all so I would have to think the lower difficulties are pretty much a walk in the park. I actually was pretty into the story for the most part. Probably one of my favorite persona stories honestly
As someone who likes FE: Engage...a lot. I've seen my fair share of criticisms of the game. Yours are pretty fair! A lot of those problems also apply to Three Houses (which I like a bit less for similar reasons. Idk engage peak ig). I'm also hoping Daybreak 2 is better because I wasn't the biggest fan of Daybreak 1 either.
I’m also still really looking forward to daybreak 2 because I think a lot of the concepts introduced in the first one have so much potential I want to see get realized
I started daybreak as my first Trails game and was somewhat enjoying it but after 20 hours it failed to get its hooks into me I guess I was expecting a lot more as many were saying it's the best trails game and RPG of the year. Went back and started Sky FC and enjoying it a lot more it's got so much more charm with the characters and enjoying the mystery.
Yeah I definitely agree I feel like all I heard about the game before it came out that it was like gods gift to gaming so I was pretty surprised and disappointed that I didn’t feel the same way
Yeah some people said it's coz I'm a noobie and don't understand any of the context or references but I honestly don't think that was the problem, it just didn't do anything out of the ordinary and it's very slow paced.
Even I, a diehard fan of the Legend of Heroes games, I don't agree this is the best trails game, but of course this is subjective. The one thing they did really well though was the new mechanic from going to arpg to turn based. I really liked going arpg for weaker enemies or setting up the best case scenario for mobs, it really gave me a neuron activation moments, besides removing the tedium of going trough mobs that we all know are too easy to deal with and also making backtracking not so annoying. This game's party members are kinda bottom tier IMO, like I was more excited for returning characters than the new ones. The thing I really miss from the Sky games is the sense of adventure. Estelle didn't know sht, you didn't know sht, and she resonated with you when you entered a new zone and had to investigate a new city or zone. In Daybreak, MC knows literally everything and just vomits exposition onto your face without letting you discover it by yourself. After reading your comment of people saying that you don't understand the context, yes they are kinda spot on. Everytime they release a new game my first thought is "Ok who is returning to catch up with them" (and to see if we get to get rid of Ouroboros once and for all). Keep in mind that the Legend of Heroes stories had been building up for the past 20 years and even though Daybreak is a new game, there are a lot of references that will go above your head or you will miss if you hadn't played the previous games. Like the latest 3 Legend of Heroes games, all had a lot of fanservice where they relied on nostalgia to get a lot of players to keep playing the game. Like literally: Cold steel IV: Like almost all of the characters from the past 20 years reunite in one game + characters that had been npcs to this day , we get to play those aswell. Hajimari: Those 90% characters get to be played again but they are given more screen time + new story arcs. Daybreak: Zin, Renne, Kilika, Rixia, Cao and fan favorite Fie and Walter. Zin and Walter have not appeared in 20 years so one of my main reasons to have played Daybreak was to see what happened to them. Anyways I hope you have a great time with these games, I actually envy you for trying it out the first time. I also recommend that you play the Crosbell arc, it's a fantastic game with one of the best party members and music.
After Reverie, Trails through Daybreak was a major disappointment. The 4SPG quest really hampered my enjoyment of the game and battles were not engaging. Still put 80 hours in and the payoff for Van felt mediocre.
I guess I see your point, but I’m a little more focused on the general gameplay loop and how it’s fundamentally designed rather than just some dialogue getting changed or outfits getting censored. I’m definitely not trying to devalue what you’re saying, but stuff like that doesn’t really have any consideration from me unless it’s like crazy egregious lol
BD2 is such a letdown I did not even finished it I loved BD and BS and love breaking the game the world/ story and characters are more charming too BD2 just feels flat and yeah I agree with Engage its too tiring its even worse compared to fates
I actually was SUPER into bravely default 2 it's one of my favorite games of the decade so far aside from like xenoblade 3. I feel like at least for me it very much took up the mantle of the 3ds games which I also love, and I had a blast with it. But yeah I kinda agree with you the story really isn't as good as the 3ds games, but to be fair, that was a high bar to cross anyway. I actually have a video where I rank the bravely default games alongside all of team asano's other games if you're interested in hearing more about my thoughts on the bravely series.
@@JakeGigs Yes, the one at the very start! Thanks for letting me, will check it ou. Glad I found your video, will subscribe and all the best of luck to see your channel grow expeditionally.
I definitely really liked unicorn overlord and it was just so close to being one of my favorite gang ever ever made, but I sort of talk about why in the video it ended up falling kind of short, just to end up being a game that I liked, rather than one of my new favorites. But yeah i definitely still liked it, if was just so clooossse to being more than that at least for me personally, so that’s why I was more disappointed, but I definitely don’t think it’s a bad game at all
Tbh , this game for me was kinda mid. I actually LOVED the art style, It was very Dragon's Crown-Like and absolutely loved it. But my problem was the gameplay, the auto battles was cool at first but got boring fast and the real time strategy mechanics it's not my cup of tea at all. Seeing how your characters would go from point A to point B in a really big map was really boring. I honestly think that I would have liked this game much more if it had been a srpg.
