forgive me, sometimes I forget that I have this amazing audience of lovely people that actually want to see my videos and my head goes into this spiral of "do they want me to upload, oh no what do I do" and then I end up skipping a week of uploads.... oh no
WoW another beautiful and sweet painting ! I love watching your video’s. It doesn’t matter which brand (cheap or expensive) most paints are so good. Take your time for uploading, just saw your notification and I stopped watching someone else video 🎨
I don't mind when you upload :) just know that it makes me happy when i get the notification and then the video always cheers me up :). It's an amazing painting btw and even more amazing is Tom's reaction
Nice idea! Most of the time a big difference is the durability of the paint once it's used on the canvas. Cheap paint looses it's contrast and depth exposed to sunlight way faster. But this takes time so I don't think we'll see this in a video. Anyway I'm really interested in the differences while the painting progress too!
I do not know what is more adorable, the painting, the plate, your shirt/dress, or Tom's reaction. It's just one whole vid of Goodness. And you deserve to be adored, you are too sweet. :}
when you mentioned that you use cheap paint most of the time and that some folks disregard your work, it baffled me! I rarely use craft grade paint or non artisan grade paint bc it takes just so much work/paint to get a good result?? You're absolutely amazing!
Partly this reaction is because craft paint is often not light fast or designed to last for long. Which means you might as well paint in chocolate for all the value it can have commercially. Art is often seen and used as currency so these sorts of reactions are not necessarily about skill or art style but more about the work not being able to fulfill this monetary function in addition to the aesthetic one. Of course if you don’t intend to sell it then painting with craft paint or even chocolate is your business. Just not if selling to someone else. I think reactions are often particularly bad because of the number of people who don’t seem to care or realise their work is going to be very short lived but still expect someone to buy it for lots of money. They give others a bad name. Unless you create works which are designed to change over their life and the buyer is informed of this. You could have a permanent under painting with fugitive overpaint which gradually fades to reveal a new image, for example. Which could be really cool.
Still can’t get over the fact how talented you are. Your eye for detail is awesome! You see things I could never see and when it’s finished it all makes sense and makes it really come alive. expensive paint or not, you are brilliant!
The fact that you use non-expensive paints for your gallery shows that you are a talented artist and you don't need super expensive paints to make your art look good! It shows anyone can paint with anything.
I always do this with things! Some things just seem too pretty/expensive, and too good to use (but feel nice to own)? I'm glad you're doing art again, it makes me happy to see you happy🤍✨
I always do this too!! I have some notebooks and a lot of stickers that I have not used yet because they are so cute and I feel sorry. Also, your Pikachu painting looks wonderful! 😊
Every painting you do looks so good. Some are even life-like, they look like they're going to pop off the canvas. And most, if not all, of what you do is so adorable. I love watching your videos. They usually bring a smile to my face.
If you told me you do all your artwork with cheaper paints, I wouldn't immediately praise your artistry instead of disregarding it. You're so talented, that Pikachu is so vibrant!
If anything I'm more impressed when I find out professional looking artwork was done with cheap supplies! In general, it takes more skill and patience to make something look good with lower quality products.
Never judge someone by the quality/ price of their stuff. It's how they use it that matters. Although some cheap crap is nearly impossible to make look good
I absolutely love your paintings, it blows my mind how beautiful and vibrant your stuff is and I’ve been practicing to get better! You inspire me to keep working on my acrylics!!
I'm having a rough week and I keep coming back to this video because it cheers me up. Thank you for being such a great source of positivity and peace. 💙
I just simply ADORE your style!!!! The way you paint is so beautiful and I just love the colors and vibrancy you add to it!!!! You’re truly an inspiration. 😊
That came out incredible and you can immediately see a difference in the vibrancy of the colors Jamie. If you were to repaint one of your other paintings using those paintings and sat them side by side, you’d see a difference in the colors, paint texture and quality. Even though both paintings are still equally beautiful on their own. I love you and Tom you’re both so sweet together. Stay safe and stay Sweet. I on the other hand have a 6 month old Puppers with Kidney Disease whose’s not feeling well today. She’s getting fixed tomorrow (fingers crossed) if the Damage to her Kidneys isn’t too bad. They are going to run another test when they have her. Just to see. ... so I’m off to make her as comfortable as I can for now. She’s my little buddy.
Just wow. I stumbled into your RU-vid channel recently and omg I just love how your art just comes out and filled with so much talent, skill, and its just simply magic. You've inspired me to try out painting again. No where near your level of skills but I'm just reliving the interest and joy why I love to draw or paint.
I love you and love to draw a lot. Enjoy watching while drawing and looking forward to know what you draw next time. You are very creative. I wish you success.😘😙
Don't worry about when you upload, I don't mind when you do :) just know that it makes me happy when i get the notification and then the video always cheers me up :). It's an amazing painting as well but Tom's reaction is always better
That nerdgasm at the end was SUPER adorkable! I loved the painting too and I'm not even that much of a fan of Pikachu (Heh, that rhymes!) I'd love, love LOVE to see you do more artworks with this paint.
I do love watching your other content, but your paintings are definitely my favorite (followed closely by anything with you and Tom, you both are precious people). It makes me wish I was back home with my acrylics 😭
Your talent and the beauty of your art work is not diminished by the type of paint you use. Your work is beautiful and I adore watching you! I don't care what you use! You do you and what you love! Smol tip? If you use thinning mediums with your heavy body paint, you might find you like it better than adding water. You keep more opacity and richness without removing binder and it can extend your drying time for blending and mixing. :) ( I know you like oils, so I thought you might enjoy that idea.)
Awesome and cute. I love when you do painting videos. I personally very much favor quality paint for all my work. Ive been able to thoroughly compare cheap vs artist grade for acrylic, watercolor, and oils. It always makes a huge difference both during the process and in the end result. I know what you mean though when people disregard the artwork when they find out the materials were cheap. I find it more impressive when people make stunning artwork with low quality paint because its harder. However i wouldnt be as likely to buy it because its less likely to last.
I love your painting videos so much! You should do a video on how you choose colors. Your paintings always capture me because your color choices are amazing!
This painting is so cute, I love it! 😁 Tom's reaction is adorable. ❤️ The art world can be really snobby. That's what I struggled with when I did my degree. Art should just make you happy. 😁
I haven't used acrylics in forever and this definitely makes me want to get a new set! I ADORE the painting! Well done! I always find your videos to be entertaining, helpful, and sweet. Love, love, love. :D
I would love a live paint-along with you. A simpler/smaller image than this, but something in your cute style! Like a Bob Ross video where you tell us what colors to use and what to do. I'd pay to join something like that.
I usually use cheap paints too, but I have one white tube of this paint! So when I mix it with my cheap paints, it kind of instantly improves the quality lol!! Super cute video Jamie, as always, we love you!
I got so excited when i saw they were Liqitex i actually squealed! Lol. I love that brand so much and got into it thanks to where i work. I have more of the basics than the heavy body but i think i have maybe almost a dozen and i love the colors 😍. I was so happy when i saw you uploaded today, this year has been hard not only with everything going on in the world but i lost my mom to cancer almost a month ago but your videos genuinely bring me a sense of calm and a smile on my face every time i watch a video. Your so talented and I've learned how to blend thanks to your videos and im taking a chance now to really try being an artist (at the ripe old age of 28 lol). You've been a big inspiration in that ♥️. I've always loved watching your stuff because you remind me of me with being shy and kinda quiet and breaking out of that shell and I've loved seeing more and more of your personality shine through. I don't know if you'll ever read this but i wanted to try and let you know how awesome you are ☺️. Ok ill stop rambling now lol 😁
Like you, I use that brand of paint .. but mostly the 'Basics' range which is excellent too. If there are colours I need that aren't in the range I use the 'Soft Body'. I use these for brush application and/or airbrushing which needs taking down with medium. They really are terrific paints that tick all the boxes .. non fading, archival etc. I am a retired person and the subject matter of my paintings differs totally from yours and could be classed as somewhat serious but I follow you as I love your work and find you inspirational. It's your spirit that shines through .. oh, and my partner and I generally think that any time not spent in Japan is wasted time!
I got a set of these paints when they were 70% off in a sale from Cass Art, they're fantastic! I tend to use cheap paint as a base coat then go in with these for a second coat or details :)
I bought a set of basic acrylic Liquitex paint years ago, and because the colours are so vibrant you don't need nearly as much as for others, so I am still using the same box, which hasn't dried out or gone bad in any way. I am definitely very happy with the set, even though it might not be the cheapest set to buy, it is very much worth the money.
Quality is in the hands of the user. I like the fact that you show the reality of good art can be made of more affordable options. You give all of us that are afraid to buy the expensive stuff, the hope of making fantastic stuff with craft paint.
During the video, i fantasize myself painting and the second the video ends, so does that fantasy lol love your art and absolutely adore watching you paint!
I really hope you take this as the compliment I mean it to be Jamie, your voice just seems to be improving every video I watch! It's so much more confident and you seem so much more comfortable talking than you did in your earlier videos. I really hope you can see your improvement yourself and are proud of yourself for how far you have come since your years of not having one. So much love to you and your delightful videos that always put a smile on my face 🥰🥰🥰
I love using Liquitex acrylic paints! And love how the painting turned out! I never thought about using a crayola twist color pencil for sketching on canvas either! 😊
if anything, it is really amazing what people can do with cheap paint or equipment in general. i'm more in the photography field and people never believe me when i tell them that my photos from the first 6 years were made with a compact digital camera. people try so hard to tell others what is or looks professional and what doesn't. please never throw away your passion or love in creating because people are price or technic snobs.
Artist grade paint absolutely makes a difference. Can cheap paints create a similar result, absolutely. There are, however, multiple reasons that the artist grade paint is better. This paint in the video is clearly thicker than the thinned out, cheap acrylic . The cheaper paints typically hold more binder and less pigment, meaning they cannot produce color as high valued. It also means they can fade quicker and look dingy over time. When I entered my first graphic design piece in college the professor immediately called on me. He asked if i used the paint the class required. I mentioned i was attempting to use up paints i had brought with me. He was the nicest, kindest art professor i ever had and softly showed me the difference between my painting and the others. Although he liked my design the best, the ability to achieve that smooth, graphic look was lost on the thinned out paints. My painting took 3x's longer than the other students because i continually had to build on the less vibrant, thin paints. Overall, however, the biggest problem is that cheap paints are not archival. I see many artists selling pieces that will fade over time, because they have not used the proper equipment. If choosing to sell, this is not fair to the buyer. If the artist can afford to have used something that would last, then you preserve the item the buyer loved by using better supplies. Art is personal. Someone is purchasing a piece because they find it means something to them. If you can't afford artist grade supplies it is important to mention it to a buyer. This act of kindness is rare in the online art community and i see it frequently. If you can afford it, what a privilege; utilize quality supplies that will hold on for multiple generations.
I love that you have these because I JUST opened mine and hoped you had a video with them in it! Perfect timing!!! GOt some for Christmas two years ago and I didnt use them because I was so nervous- But i have to practice using less with the cheap paint bc it's so runny I will blend when I mean to layer, and it may be really thin to layer, so I need to blend -_- Thank you Jamie!!
