Its sad to see a person avoinding you because of who you are, thats ridiculous. Each piece you mentioned by itself might not seem like much at first, but taken as a whole and especially the out of line plague comment, makes giving that benefit of the doubt pretty difficult. This is disconcerting to hear since I am a fan of both your and Erick's channel. Thank you for making this video and being open to talk about it. I'd like to see a response from Erick because I don't want to support someone who holds that kind of view. I think the gaming community needs to be more inclusive so it's sad to hear about something like this.

And I know this is not at all a “let’s cancel Eric pledge drive” but rather you’ve been endlessly badgered about collaboration and it must not be pleasant for you. But I don’t see any other explanation for your treatment by him other than he doesn’t like you because you’re not straight. Maybe if you start ceaselessly promoting NIN…Much love going out to you and thank you so much for all the years of pleasure your videos have brought and continue to bring to me.

Erick sees this small vocal and annoying part of the LGBTQ+ community(what group doesn't have those people?) and assumes it speaks for everyone, assuming the worst about others and treating them as such without even talking to anyone properly. You know, to see people are different and have a wide and varied set of opinions. Makes me lose almost all respect for the man. David you're awesome, just keep being you, and honestly your mature reaction to this has gained more of my respect, along with the fact you always keep things 100% honest. Over the years I've gone from casually watching a video or two, to subscribing, to hitting the bell, and you're up there at this point as one of my favorites.

Sorry to hear. Of course this whole situation is speculation, but he is probably insecure that he could have so much in common with a gay man.

To me, all that matters is the content. Everyone is free to sleep with or identify as whoever they like. As long as the content is good, I am there. And you are incredibly well versed in this subject. Even for someone like me, who has been playing Fan translations of JRPGs since I was 12 (I am now 35), this channel is very interesting. It has helped me discover some stuff I've missed, so thanks for that. Take care of yourself. :)

That sucks man. Before today, I was subscribed to both channels and watched all the videos. I definitely related more to your content and friendly demeanor but I enjoy learning anything new about JRPGs so I will look for hidden gems or tips from any source. I learned a long time ago though that there are plenty of people that will accept me for who I am and anyone that doesn’t, won’t occupy any space in my mind or be given any of my time. At this point there's more of a chance of the pot of greed being unbanned than you and Erick doing a collab. TBH Erick's videos have become repetitive and samey with him doing the same handful of topicsand being an AVGN wannabe whilst you come up with new idea's consistently. I've discovered some of the best games (and by extension, had some of the happiest moments of escapism in my life) because of your channel, so thank you. I've also definitely 100% learned how to be a more confident gay man, embracing some of the feminine elements of the way I speak or even hand movements - because I got to see a confident, INCREDIBLY INTELLIGENT, gorgeous, and comfortable af gay man living his best fucking life - so thank you thank you thank you for that. Won't bore you with my context/background - but it means the world to me that you are out here, making these videos, being unapologetic about your sexuality and treating it like "just another trait" within you - you are an icon, a legend, and I hope tons of gay (straight, and everything else in between) kids and teens all over the world find this channel (read: safe space). I found as an adult and you feel like the cool af friendly as all hell big brother I wish I had growing up.

I always look forward to your videos and especially love your RPG news videos each week because you compile things that I usually don't have time to read throughout the week. I'd like to say that I think the way you handled yourself in this video shows you have a lot of class and I imagine it may have been an exercise of enormous restraint. It's unfair you even have to make this video and show this level of maturity turning the other cheek. Well, that's just sad. You built bridges, and someone else burned them down. Let them deal with the ashes. It's especially disheartening when that second clip gives possible insight into why he did so... I've watched a few of Landon's videos in the past (wouldn't say I'm a fan or anything), but seeing that clip was frustrating. I definitely don't plan on going back. I can separate art from the artist, but only feel the need when I'm trying to analyze something on a technical level. If I'm going purely on what I find interesting or entertaining, the "who" of the situation is important to me. If Lady Pelvic is up for it, she'd be a perfect choice for a collab video, in my opinion. The only issue I could see arising is trying to determine who is prettier in the vid. She will give you some fierce competition in that regard. You've gotten this far by doing what you think is right for your channel, and the result is something awesome. I'm confident in your ability to keep it up, despite these gut-punches. Go get 'em.

I remember a similar experience I had in middle school when I used to be more outwardly feminine and appeared to be homosexual, a religious kid was in a group with me picked by the teacher and I introduced myself to the group in person and the other members were receptive except the kid. I asked him after class if I did something to him that hurt or offended him, and all he said was “I don’t like gay people” then left. In the bus ride home, I really felt conflicted and a bit sad because I was always so nice to everyone that I guess I just expected everyone to be nice back and like me. I now understand that it was ok that someone didn’t like me, because I know plenty of people that do respect me regardless of what I am or not. Don’t let that one negative experience affect you David. You have a whole community supporting you that does not care at all how you identify or who you sleep with. Much love buddy ❤️

I actually unsubscribed from Eric bc his content is mostly farming for clicks, doing listings with no reason or rhyme to them, just his biased opinions with nothing to back them up with. Same "hidden gems" listed with every single video etc. Also he was demanding subscribers to watch/rewatch his videos on the community tab whenever upload didn't get exposure. And the constant swearing for no reason got old. Wasn't even aware that he took such offense of people's sexual orientation/identity and judged people solely based on that, that's a low I didn't think him capable of.

Wow… And I like Erick’s content also and think you two would have had a great collab! And while I have known what your sexual preference was for a while, this has never once affected my enjoyment or judgment of your content. I hope this is a misunderstanding because you make great content and don’t deserve to be treated this way. This must have been an awkward video to make. But thank you for making it. It's eye opening.

This reminds me of a colleague I used to share an office with. We both taught the same subject, and we had overlap in classes as well as office hours. She was a very sweet old lady, had the charm that only a certain type of grandma has, and really seemed to go out of her way to help her students. Most of them. Every now and then she would seem a little curt in her responses, as if she wanted the conversation to end quickly. At the time, I assumed this either had to do with off days (we all have them), or perhaps there was an issue with the student's work/conduct that warranted such a behavior. Then, on a slow day in Spring when we had just been talking about our families, she saw a news article headline about the conflict in Syria and started talking about Arabic students, specifically Muslims. One was right outside of the door, but positioned so that she wasn't in view of my colleague. Turns out some grandmas are actually really quite racist. The Arabic student left in the middle of the rant, as I was trying to get my colleague to stop talking. I really hope she didn't overhear what was being said, but I think it's far more likely she did. Moving forward, I started paying attention to the students my colleague was helpful with: young White men. Every other category of student received the curt responses. My opinion of her completely changed, and I began to feel gross sharing a space with her. I really regret that I didn't confront her the day she made those remarks about Muslim students. Sometimes people will show you who they really are. When they do, believe them. If you are in a position to, speak out against hate. I'm sorry you experienced what appears to be clear-cut discrimination, David. You are not a plague. The LGBTQ+ community is not a plague. You're a wonderful person who also makes great content. Keep fighting the good fight, friend.

ugh that's really disappointing to hear this about Erik, thanks for talking about this David! I see that Erik has made a response to this and I'm sure its full of apologies and "lessons learned" but I won't be able to believe it's from a genuine place and not just because this affects his channel. That last clip of his is really damning, not only does he condemn the LGBT community but adds a big red flag with that "I'm straight btw" at the end as if he'd view a misunderstanding of being LGBT as some kind of insult.

I was a long time subscribed to Erick Landon's channel, but have recently seen some things in some of his videos that were... concerning (main thing that comes to mind was him playing the victim and using all the textbook far right "cancel culture" talking points because YT demonitized one of his videos. As if that's not something that every content creator on this site deals with regularly). It's a bummer to find this out but not super surprising. You make great content and have a huge amount of knowledge and appreciation of games I both love and want to know more about. I’m 37 and it’s starting to get hard to find people who remember the excitement of a new 8 or 16 bit rpg so that’s what I watch your videos for and I’d say you deliver on that content extremely well consistently. Just wanted to give some support because I don’t feel you deserve any judgement over your private life at all whatsoever.

You've got a crazy amount of experience with JRPGs and that should be the only thing that matters. If this person, in their mind, can't separate making a video about a good Final Fantasy romp without it being entangled with the idea of somehow being intimate with you, then he has his own stuff to work out.
