Thanks for being so thoughtful and appreciative of your audience, Karen, and for allowing us all to see behind the veil, a little bit. Keep kicking ass! ❤
I love the narrative about how the bidding went, Karen! It brought back memories of similar instances. I literally could feel your angst as you were telling how it went. In the end, so glad you got it. It's one of those pieces you probably would never have forgotten had you missed it. The saving grace is sometimes, missed pieces resurface again but sometimes, disappear forever. Great show! My FAVORITE part in this is the outtakes!
Not to say that if the right opportunity ever presented itself that you should not get that Kirby/Stone page of your dreams, but this Captain Victory specialty piece seems pretty perfect to me. (PS I didn't cry when it arrived in the mail, but, as there was a strong nostalgic connection to my father related to the page, I got pretty emotional when I was finally able to acquire my Kirby -- a Jimmy Olsen title splash -- so cheers!)
If I never get another Kirby piece, I wouldn't be disappointed after getting this Captain Victory piece. Thanks for sharing your story about the Jimmy Olsen title splash! Sometimes it's more than the art itself that moves us. ☺
Just binged all of your unboxing and i am glad this one was last on my list. What a great find. He was the King for a reason. I appreciate realism in comic art through the ages but there is nothing like the comic book styling of the silver age masters and Kirby was and will always be on the top of the list.
Wow! That's super cool to hear! I hope you enjoyed all of the videos. I couldn't agree with you more on Kirby and the silver age masters! It's what I gravitate towards the most now. 😉
Absolutely stunning - not only is it an original Jack Kirby at giant sieze but there are photos of him drawing it as well. There can't be many orignal art collecters who can brag about that. Amazing congrates :)
Thank you, Jason! I'm so happy to own a special piece from Kirby. Congratulations on getting your first Kirby piece, too! Did you get one of the JIM #108 pages or was it something else?
I love your adoration of silver age. It is very refreshing. I have been in the hobby off and on but have always focused on the original creation of Marvel characters (especially silver age). Am going through your videos and love the focus. So amazing, congratulations on the fantastic piece.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that you are checking out several of my videos. I really love Silver Age comics and original art. It's timeless. Thank you for your comment! ☺
congratulations miss Karen on receiving your grail piece. it is always a great day for our community when one member tracks down that one piece they have been looking to add to their collection..
The physical unboxing transitioned from the funniest one I've seen this year (by far) to the most emotional. What a wonderful piece of art, thanks for sharing the experience!
Thank you so much, Dave! I'm glad you really liked the unboxing and my reaction. I was unsure about leaving in my initial reactions, but when I read comments like yours, I'm glad I kept them in. Your comments mean a lot, thank you! ☺
Congratulations, Karen. What a great piece of art to add to your collection. If only Jack were alive to see someone have that kind of reaction to his work. What artist wouldn't love to see someone shed tears of happiness over his/her work? Also, love the Jordan clips you added to your video--classic!
That’s fantastic, Karen! Sooooo happy for you. Kirby is my favourite too, but I only have his sig on issue #1 of ‘Fighting American’. They don’t call him ‘King’ for nothing 👑
ok my second time watching. Just to see your reaction again! Very emotional and heart warming. I also love Chic Stone on Jack. My favorite inker on him. You have such great taste.
I'm looking at one at auction right now (probably can't get it, though). 😂😂😂😂

OMG, this video has some of the funniest shit I've seen on your channel, ever! 😂 😂 😂 😂 First of all, the way your competitor was bidding against you was strategic, I do it all the time.😉But you're much too savvy to not realize what he was doing, so it was hilarious to know that you Michael Jordaned him! This was THE most EPIC unboxing I've ever seen! Props to you, Karen, cuz that was AWESOME! Stretching your long legs out then having to lay down on your back and being COMPLETELY covered by the cardboard? So funny! But all the humour aside, my favourite part was you showing your vulnerability. Art is meant and supposed to move us and it moves all of us in very different ways. But there's nothing quite like the feeling of being moved to tears by a piece of art. Thanks for being so open and willing to share that side of you with everyone. By the way, I can't believe that song you used was royalty free. It sounded exactly like a song Elle King would have performed and I actually assumed it was her. It's so catchy, I think it could get good air play. I'm so stunned that it is a royalty free song anyone could've used. And yes, she's a beauty queen, indeed.😉 This deserves to be your most viewed video yet! Bravo! 👏👏👏
Thank you so much, Rubén! You are always so kind with your comments! It's nice to hear that your favorite parts of the video were the emotional ones. To be honest, I wasn't sure about including them, but when I read your comments, I'm glad I left them in. From reading other peoples' comments, it seemed like they felt the same way. The music is royalty free, but I had to pay for the license. It's a great song and I'm glad you liked it. ☺

@@KarensPages Thanks for clearing up the music thing. I should've guessed it wasn't one of the freebies anyone could use. You're so welcome, by the way. This is my new favourite video of yours and I knew it was going to be popular and that people would react positively to it. Putting yourself out there publicly in a vulnerable emotional state is very difficult to do, but it really is beautiful to see, so I'm not surprised at all that viewers have been connecting with it so much. I can't tell you how joyous it feels to see you getting so much joy out of your collection. You continue to outdo yourself with each successive video!
I love Jack Kirby's work. From early Journey into Mystery / Thor, Fantastic Four and even his off-brand Silver Star Comics...I love it all. Have you ever read Donatello #1. In it the turtle meets "Kirby" and it's pretty surreal. I'm a TMNT fan and it's probably my favorite issue. And considering the Thing is based on him, he's probably the reason I fell in love with the FF. Thanks for the video. Your love for the medium is infectious. Do you love The Office? I love the jokes 😂
Thank you so much, Jeff! The Office (the US version) is one of my favorite tv shows...it never gets old. I haven't read Donatello #1, but that's cool to know that Kirby is mentioned in it. 👍
Karen, BIG Congrats on your first KING KIRBY artwork! I used to have 6 Kirby's but sold them off years ago...I've regretted that ever since. You really scored BIG with this one! 👍👍👍
Congratulations, I have been collecting comic books for 51 years ( I started when I was 6 years old ) during the course of those years/decades I have been fortunate enough to pick up Jack Kirby original art ( in the main around 30 years ago when it was wayyyy more affordable ) this piece just has the WOW factor even by Kirby WOW factor standards, truly one of the most striking pieces I have seen in my years of collecting, again CONGRATULATIONS to you and again WQW.
Wow, thank you so much for your comment! Congratulations on over 5 decades of comic collecting! If you don't mind me asking, what Jack Kirby original art did you pick up back then? Do you still own it? Nice to meet a fellow Kirby fan! 👍
@@KarensPages Hi Karen, yes I was picking up Kamandi pages back then, inked by both Mike Royer and D Bruce Berry, yes I still have them, they are something I would never part with I adore and treasure them lol.
@@captain_uk Thanks for getting back to me! Sounds like you picked up some awesome pages! Speaking of Kamandi...be sure to check out my future unboxing videos...😉
Oh wow that's gorgeous! I just realized I bought that comic when it came out when a kid living in Denver at the time. I think Kirby was the architype of bringing out the "big guns" that's been copied 1000's of times, ex: NM's #87 Cable with his big blaster.
As a big Kirby fan myself, that is absolutely stunning. It’s so beautiful and screams Kirby! It’s obvious to see your passionate about his work and I wanted to cry right along with you. I love that you have a photo of him doing it at the con too! Huge congrats on a timeless piece!
@@KarensPages you are most welcome. As a father of two young girls it’s really nice to have such a passionate female comic collector representation on RU-vid! I showed my oldest who is only three and she said “dada she sad?” I said, “nope, those are happy tears for Mr. Kirby!” Start em young! Congrats again, it’s truly amazing!
@@Moncomics It's nice to hear that you involve your family in comics and try to get them interested at such a young age. I also have two young daughters. My oldest daughter already draws comic book characters and tries to sell them to me for Jim Lee prices. 😂Thanks again!
Very many congratulations, Karen, for staying the distance for what you really wanted and (most importantly) for achieving your goal. Any Jack Kirby piece would be a grail and this is so huge as well! I am so happy for you! And he and Roz were so amazing to their fans as well. This is a rich piece of heritage you have which goes even beyond the magnificent artwork itself.
@@KarensPages I am afraid not. But I did write them. And they very kindly wrote back. Happy to share the experience with you if you will keep my "secret identity"! LOL!
@@comicartboston3330 I would love to hear about your experience! I have a contact email in the About section of this channel (you might have to be logged in to see it). Any conversations we would have would be kept completely private.
You're very welcome Karen. I loved your emotional reaction when your opened the box, which was BIG, and saw the drawing (I don't know what U call it) up close. OUTSTANDING! I've been a Jack Kirby fan since I started reading comics in the early 60's. Again CONGRATS and I can't to see it frame 👋 Steve Romero
Fantastic unboxing and excellent video editing. That is a stunning piece of Kirby greatness...Big, Bold, and Dynamic...Like all Jack's work. I agree with you about the panel aspect...if he was shown doing it, I feel it would not have been a promo piece. I also agree with you about the team of Jack and Chic. Chic has a delicate way, but if you really look at his inks, he bold outlines all figures...they kinda' pop....vs (IMHO) Vinnie C, that could be thin and scratchy. I'm really happy for you truly, that you acquired your grail....that is too cool. I'm sure you read about my JK exp in my Romita drawing post. Hey, I wasn't too mean, was I? 😉
Thank you so much, CJDesign! Glad you enjoyed the video. And I always appreciate your thoughtful comments as well as your stories (you're never mean). 😉
beautiful piece Karen and well worth the price! Your emotion shows it was well worth it. Get a great frame and I wasn't the under bidder. Cannot wait to see what's next.
WOW!! Truly an EPIC unboxing. That's such an impressive work! You own a unicorn of comic book and art history! Congratulations! Happy to hear this piece went to a good home. Thanks for also including your story about bidding. That was awesome.
Epic unboxing! Kirby’s power resonates through the ages and you can feel the power, weight, and momentum behind the pose! You should get a nice color frame to match those bold colors that pop off the board.
Thank you so much, Marcus! I just want to let you know that your comments on the show I did with Rubén inspired the intro to this video. I hope you enjoyed it. 😉 The frame is next!
Congrats on that amazing win! Original Kirby art. Wow. Just wow. Amazing! Such a big piece and from San Diego Comic Con back in the day when it was really a comic con and held at the El Cortez hotel. Artists would make these beautiful sketches on the fly while fans watched and the work would be sold to support various causes including the con itself which seemed to always be under funded. If memory serves the folks who set up the con made it a nonprofit and barely had enough to survive despite the con’s extraordinary success in later years. Anyway, so glad you got your grail! 🎉❤😊
Thank you so much for your comment. Kirby was always at SDCC and he always believed in its potential. He even predicted that SDCC would eventually go beyond comics. I thought that was pretty cool. 😊
Hi Vivienne! I'm glad you liked my "That's what she said" comment. I wasn't sure if I should include it in the outtakes, but I'm so glad I left it in after reading your comment. Thank you so much! 😁
I met Jack when I was about 9...and he was such an AMAZING guy,so excited for me to be into comics...I've lost my sketch over the years. Your emotional response is absolutely beautiful...I'm a loyal viewer from here on out.
BALLER. ;-p Seriously though huge congrats, Karen. I stiil remember all the feelings/emotions I had when I unboxed my first Kirby piece. I didn't think smart enough to do it as a video though ha. This is such a huge and sweet piece and Capt. Victory is awesome since he had such a direct contribution to it. And a colored piece too!!! Wowzers. The whole process with going after a piece on Heritage can be quite stressful. From the potentially months of previewing aheead of it, to pre-bidding (if thats your thing), to the wait inbetween and lead up into the actual live auction rounds especially with the Signature auction ones. So stressful! Def been there when it comes to the unexpected last second bidding competitor too, oyyy....but once you do finally score something, it's such a sweet feeling! Congratulations
Thank you, Kavi! I would have loved to have seen your first Kirby unboxing! I'm glad you liked my unboxing. One of the reasons why I love Captain Victory is that Kirby had full control over his creation. 😉👍
When I saw Kirby's signature and the marker smudges from the side of his hand on the board, it really made me think about Kirby himself and his many contributions to comics. It all hit me at once. Thank you for your comment. 😊
Wow. Serious art collecting masterpiece. I am ...impressed. You are my hero. Its okay for you to have nice things in your home. It is an extension of who you are. I rejoice with you.
Congrats on what is clearly a grail for you! I got a chuckle about your comment that you had already cleared space on the wall for it. I have some art that I am very happy with, but I don't have anything that has the meaning this Kirby piece has for you. A Romita Sr. ASM cover would be a grail for me, but the prices have far exceeded my financial ability. On another subject, this bidding process on Heritage (bidding in the countdown seconds) happens all the time. I don't know whether it is some type of strategy or what, but it gets old because it makes the auctions go on way longer than they need to.
Thank you! The delayed bidding is definitely a strategy and an annoying one at that. You are exactly right, it delays the auctions that already last hours. I bid quickly. 😉 I think we both missed the boat on cheap ASM Romita Sr. covers, unfortunately. 😂
I don't know about that. 🤔 I will say, I've definitely evolved as a collector over the years. I'm so glad that you enjoyed this video and the Okajima pedigree video as well. These two are among my top three favorite videos that I've made so far. Thank you for your comments (and sorry for the delayed response). 😊
Karen! I just found you through Bry's Comics recent video. The buildup in this video was insane and the music was perfect. I've recently gotten back into my own art (see my recent video) and hope to one day collect some original stuff so I'm going to check out your videos for sure. Keep up the great content! Can't wait to watch more and learn about more about OG art collecting! Love this piece BTW! 🙂
Thank you so much! I'm glad you liked the video (it's one of my favorites). I will check out your channel sometime. It's cool that you recently got back into art again. 👍
Absolutely. The auction picture did not do this piece justice and it's even better in person! Sorry I didn't respond to your comment earlier...this one slipped through the cracks (once I heart a reply, the reminder goes away). Thanks for your comment! 😊
I love that Captain America one with the Red Skull. Actually I like them all. I would have a hard time choosing, though the price would probably help with that!
Yes, they are all pretty awesome. With the Captain America, you can't go wrong with the classic Kirby pose. These types of pieces come up from time to time, but they can be pretty expensive, especially when they are Marvel characters.
This piece is so AWESOME!!!! Jack Kirby is one of those artists that was way ahead of his time. I wish I had the opportunity to see him at a show. I'm sorry I kept bidding up this piece (just kidding) I'm pretty sure this is out of my price range. How much did this set you back, if you don't mind me asking. If so, no worries, I totally understand. Thanks for sharing as always. Never stop the outakes!!!!
I completely agree, Jack Kirby was way ahead of his time. Just one small example, Kirby predicted that the San Diego Comic Con would get huge and encompass all forms of entertainment (not just comics) and he was absolutely right. There will only be one King of Comics. Thanks for your comment and for going back to watch my older videos. 👍
