My Mother Speaks Yiddish with Me and Spanish with My Sister 

This was "recommended" here all these years later. I was actually moved by the description of what language Momma spoke to children and husband and why. I had a similar upbringing with the years I was blessed to have my maternal Grandfather alive (till I was 8) and he spoke to me in Yiddish to me (though he did speak English wee )from the beginning of my life and I was fluent in both languages. We lived together in the same home, so this exposed to both languages daily . I am grateful that my mother , in his honor continued to speak Yiddish and English to me so I would not lose the language and indeed that happened til she passed. That gift of being bilingual so early influenced how easily I picked up other languages (verbally) as I matured.
