My Mushroom Growing Operation Using Termites in My Giant Rainforest Vivarium

I'm conspiring with special termites to grow a highly valued mushroom species called Termitomyces. It's a fungus that is known to only be cultivated in the wild by termites, who farm the fungus as a food source within their nests. Scientists still don't know how to artificially cultivate the fungus in a lab or grow it agriculturally like most other edible mushrooms. The issue is that the mushroom and the termites are involved in a symbioitic relationship, where one cannot survive without the other, and so, using the natural conditions of my giant rainforest vivarium, I hope to be the first in the world to grow Termitomyces indoors. This is the epic story of how I intend to do it. Hope you enjoy Season 3, Episode 2 of my Ecosystem Vivarium Series. Ant love forever! This video was shot in 4K Ultra HD resolution.

@alexlloyd2607

I highly doubt the flooding was unintentional. He's a smart man, he wants the mushrooms to grow and termites to thrive, for that to happen, the inside needs to mimic the outside. No flood no mushrooms and no termite first gathering. AC probably portrayed it in such a way that he wasn't seen as inhumane and cruel, I wouldn't blame him after all mother nature is a fickle thing. And it adds a little drama.
@nicdesmedt7443

@@alexlloyd2607 From the short footage off the mushroom collectors (if it isn't just some random footage) I would gather they live on somewhat higher altitudes, safer from floodings? Every episode has something completely unexpected and borderline disastrous. its all good tho it all adds to the excitement but yeah i dont fully buy into most of it being completely accidental.

@alexlloyd2607 Месяц назад
@@nicdesmedt7443 oh no the stagnant flood water probably isn't needed but a much higher than usual rainfall (especially for pantdora) almost certainly has a roll to play with the mushrooms growing or termites emerging or possibly both. Either way if he wants this idea of the termite mushrooms growing to come to fruition, another very high level of rainfall in pantdora is pribably going to be needed.

The white little creature that you saw at 18:53 is a diplura species. It is not an insect but it is the closest related Hexapoda order to the insects. The name comes from diplo meaning two and ura meaning tail. There are about 800 species known in the world. Most of them have two longer antennae like appendages and back but this one has a pincer like appendage that is used for hunting. I think it might be a Japygid dipluran but I'm not certain.

I know it's not ideal to flood the vivarium, and the power outage was probably quite terrifying. But, it kind of has a nice irony to it that the typhoon season essentially caused the flood inside the vivarium, kind of like its own mini typhoon. I think it's kinda cool that plantdora got to experience something like this, especially since it's built to perfectly imitate what a natural rainforest would experience. Like all the plants and creatures were used to living an almost utopian life with perfect weather everyday, and now they had to face some adversity.

Most ground-nesting animals make "air chambers" or chambers which purpose is to be flooded so that their den is safe from the water. Ants usually build lots and lots of both air chambers (tunnel goes down and then back up, creating a vacuum so that the chamber can't be flooded), and "flooded" rooms on the bottom of their nest, which function by, well, getting flooded lol. And of course they build lots and lots of tunnels which will lead the water to the bottom of the nest, so that the water can flow out of it. Since the flooding chambers and tunnels are usually built on the lowest possible point, they will get flooded while also avoiding that the air chambers get flooded (their air chambers can look similar to those "greedy cups", where as long as the outside liquid level is lower than the chamber's level, the chamber won't get flooded, or in the case of the greedy cup, spill out. This is also why the flooding chambers/tunnels being lower is important)

Here's a comment for the algorithm. I feel a little guilty saying anything at all today; this looks like a scientific episode, best leaving the comments to experts, but I can't help myself! What a beautiful learning experience, and what an emotion of success just from watching!! I can't imagine the feeling it must be to have grown it yourself, but I've been here since before the start of this giant project, and I feel a little like a part of it each week. Goodness, another fully packed adventure; so cool! 💚 While watchng I realized something that completley blew my mind, as it has done often in the past, but seems to be so easily forgotten: What happens in Pantdora, and Orchadia, is "only" a small version of what happens outside of it! Think about it (I know many of you already do, but I just want to mention my own thrill of it 😊) how all around the world, in our gardens, in our homes even, unexpected things happen every single second of every single day. Things similar to here, in Pantdora and Orchadia. A flooding, that all the creatures present are way more adaptive to than we suspect, or even think about. Here in The Netherlands we battle water since we came here to live, and we are proud of how we do it ... but we are nothing in contrast to how efficient wonderfull creatures like the isopodes are, or the ants, and all others. I am loving how everything happens, even if that means Mikey has to work 10 times harder to keep everything safe and sound (sorry Mikey, but to me, you are an integral part of the whole setup here, as you are the Builder of Worlds. 😉) and tells us all about the happenings. I so love how all things are connected to each other, and how the influence is, more often than not, further reaching than we suspect. Thank you AntsCanada/Mikey, for all the hard work and all the insights you give me. Learning along with you is a real blessing and thrill at the same time for me. 🤗
