For me, i feel bad for the kid. And it must be frustating for her mother in law to see her like that. She doesnt even working. Only a mom and housewife. So at least she should be responsible for that. Well she is just too young and not ready for kid. Its not her fault either. :(

I've noticed that in most korean variety programs and this one as well, whenever a white foreigner comes in (even though most of them are just average looking, sometimes not even goodlooking) they get praised immediately with 'BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL PRETTY HANDSOME' but when they get any foreigners that are not white you never hear any comments complimenting their appearance they just act surprised or start conversation like normal and get on with it.... hmmmm

lol so one black guy being praised out of the many non white men and women i have seen appear on shows yeah that sounds very equal...on this show every other episode you have a non white foreigner featured (great) but they never compliment them like when a white guest appears gushing on about their 'beauty'. And also when they praise Sam quite often they spend more time comparing his looks to Will Smith. P.S i have to agree Aniten actually has quite a charming look but lets be real most white people that appeared on here are pretty basic looking, especially Russian ones, when we know an actual beautiful Russian girl is mind blowingly pretty.

I always feel bad watching the female foreigners who get a Korean husband giving up their lives to move to Korea! 😓 Especially if they have a baby too early on and lose their careers to basically become a housewife 😤 It must be so stressful to not know the language. It bothers me how people expect foreigners to instantly assimilate to the Korean culture... 😱 I can't imagine suddenly moving anywhere, leaving my family behind, and being 100% happy and comfortable. Hope Antien doesn't have too much of a hard time! It was nice seeing a couple that still had a young and fresh vibe 😊 So cute! 💑

The mother-in-law is too hard on them. They're really young so they don't understand that well about children. Plus it's hard to take of a child while cleaning. The mother is being too mean on her calling her the "bad guy' she is use to the culture in the Netherlands and the culture in the Netherlands is that the child sleeps in a separate room.
@kurisutarukun
@kurisutarukun 7 лет назад
I totally agree, different cultures hard different parenting methods. I would also hate it if my mother in law barged into the apartment whenever she wanted to. Its their child and not hers. Plus being overprotective of children will lead to problems in the future.
@jiwonyang390
@jiwonyang390 7 лет назад
You do have to understand that Korea has always been to be hard on the parents because its a child they're taking care of and coming into the houses of their son or daughter.. its a part of the culture just like the people in netherlands making their babies sleep by themselves.. (im not taking the mothers side T.T i do agree that the mother did not quite fully understand the daughter in laws culture which she should've)

She seems so lovely, I pity her, because she gave up or paused her dreams to move into Korea. Her husband doesn't seem to love her 100%, gets pissed off when she gets lost instead of comforting her, doesn't want to be lovey dovey in public with her, doesn't try to defend her in front of his mother, doesn't seem to want to spend special time with her in his free time (i understand him having to work and needing his rest days, but at least, try to understand that his wife is cooped up in a small space everyday, and needs some socialization or entertainment)... I feel like she is stuck in the relationship because of their son. She's still young, and is very pretty. I feel like she can be a model in Korea along with her son, and that she deserves a better man than him. (Just an opinion)

I am a foreigner who married a busan husband. I have studied some simple korean before i went to visit the family a year ago. My parent-in-laws speak busan dialect, the "satori", which i find it difficult to understand even until now. So the first meeting wasnt easy, because we couldnt express ourselves well, we wanted to talk more to each other but the words just stuck at the throat and the feeling of frustration arose. After that i spend more effort to brush up my korean and in-laws also putting alot of effort in understanding my shortcoming, things have improved and they treat me very well. Everyone puts some effort and does some sacrifices for a better relationship of the family. I believe if Antien starts learning korean, things will get better. Fighting~

That mother-in-law is driving ME nuts! I may be only 17, but I've worked with children (including those with autism and other disorders) in my mom's home daycare since I was maybe 7 or 8 and I can tell you right now that she is doing far too much. She's very overprotective and worries about the smallest little things. Not to mention that she's far too hard on Antien. (P.S. having a child sleep separately is not going to 'ruin their personality'. If anything does in a situation like this, it would be the way she scolds the parents and the difference in the way they treat him. This could end up giving him a bit of a complex and an attitude towards his parents. I can tell she's just going to be the type to spoil him...)

its just Asian parenting style. in Asia when the parents have a kid they dont take it as a burden ,they take it as a blessing. this is why they dont kick out their kids when they turn 18 but the white parents think when will the baby grow up? when will they get their free lifestyle back again? but in Asia being a parent is a huge sacrifice because the parent gave birth to the baby or the baby wouldn't be able to come all alone.
@minoriruba1828
@minoriruba1828 7 лет назад
Wonder why Asian kids r so good at their academic activities even when they r in Europe. America? the reason is what the western people see as ''''spoiling'''' we take it as uncondetional love we spend so much time with our kids and when they grow we always nag them to do their best but the western people mention the Asian nagging style as if it is some sort of a brutal activity. but we see separating the kid from his mother as a brutal thing because this is the time to give the kid all ur love so when he grows up he will have a helping and loving personality.

Western parents don't think of their children as burdens, they love them just as much as asian parents . Most kids choose to leave because they want to become independent. Even after we have moved out of our parents house we still visit our parents all the time and our parents still help us with our problems.

I don't like the mother in law she's way too overprotective over the grandson and way too harsh to her daughter in law. Antien does things her way, the way she was taught by her mother. There's no perfect way to educate your child, so the grandmother has to stop pestering her. Furthermore, the mother has more rights over the child than the grandmother. IMO.

I think her mother in law is very nice. She helps her taking care of noel since she is so young and lack of experience and even teach her korean. I mean, if you got a daughter in law that doesnt know how to cook or clean the house, will you be all calm and quiet? I bet its hard to find a mother in law like this.

we don't know what really happens in their life but I don't think that mother-in-law is bad. She is a typical strong mother. I mean my mother is also kind of strong woman and not everyone can be soft and sweet. That doesn't make them bad. She tries to help them out as she can and she tries to do things that she thinks are right. I think they all are just very nice people and do all they can. It's a beautiful family. I liked the father also very much

Women that give up their dreams to follow their future husband.. I mean why do you give up when you can freaking take a pause from your economic life..? You literally have one year of being home with your child and then go back to whatever you studied or your job? I would never give up for something i've struggled with or fighted hard for it tho..
@schoolgeek2b

I agree with you, I would have stayed and finished my schooling in the Netherlands. It is so much harder to go back to school after being off for years and then both would both have an income to help ease the burden moving forward. Short term gain since may mean loans but much high benefits in the long run.

You have to make sacrifices for your child. Your child always comes first, and kids _need_ to grow up with their parents present in their life. Day cares can't provide the mental development that a stay at home parent can. Clearly she got pregnant by accident, which is why they rushed the marriage. If anything this should teach you that if you have a dream job that you're chasing for then _always use protection_
@sjbaem4448

They are a pretty young couple so I feel as they grow and learn they'll be better parents. But the mother-in-law, though she means well is being overbearing and over protective. She can help if she wants to but stop berating them, her way isn't the only way. I also hope that Antien will go back to studying soon and get a job because she is young and you can see that the finances are already a burden to her husband.

Obviously the mother-in-law needs to be understanding and not underestimate Atien because she's a young adult. Western and Asian cultures may be different but there's many way to raise a child.. There's no 1 way to raise a kid and you have to be flexible regardless of what cultural background one may come from. Raising a child depends on the kid's personality too

it's because they purposely knock them up. My Korean friend told me that it's common for Korean guys to put holes in it and basically trap their gfs in a marriage. Doesn't it sound strange? The age gap is big. By the time Asian men hit 25, they are pressured to get married or to start looking for a bride. Not too long ago, women in Japan were called "christmas cake" if they weren't married by their mid-20's

Okay everyone is hating on the mother in law, but really I don't see the problem😂😂she's just discipling Antien because she's young and needs help with taking care of her child, the house, and really everything. If she doesn't get that "treatment" she may not be good in the future if she doesn't get that help. Remember she's 21, so she's still young. Like the mother in law said she's wanting her to study and you know learn everything about Korea and how manner like.

i actually honestly didn't like how their daily life started off with her talking about his weight. Ok, we get it. He use to be smaller and much more handsome but that doesn't mean for you to start being like "This isn't the real you. The real you is all under this fat". Like whaaaah??? The him now and the him then is still the same person, so, his weight really shouldn't matter to you. I'm sure she wouldn't like it if he was like that to her, if she was the bigger one, so i don't think she should be like that to him. He knows he gained weight, you don't have to remind him. Just love him, support him and help him choose a healthier path in life if him being thin is something you really miss.

TweeTwee Me !! I think she's still naive and immature, her mother in law understands it pretty well when she said she's still a baby at her 20. Her husband is worried and thinking about their life as a family man and saving up for her future and his enlistment in the army. The husband is behaving responsibly thinking to take care of his wife financially even when he's not around. I don't think European man are as such.

She seems like an extrovert to me so I can understand why she hasnt grown up yet. There are alot of worser 21 year olds out there. As for the fat case thing. I dont think she means it in a bad way. Ofcourse she wants him to be healthy. And for her perspective he was much more handsome and active when he was slimmer. So what? Thats her truth. Its not like she is smothering hate speech at him. It's like a bicker kind of thing. Nowadays people are so afriad to use the word fat. It has such stigma that we resort to the "heavier side". Just say it for what it is without contempt because stating it is not fat shaming. He has to open up to her though about some concerns. I feel like he doesnt do that as much hence her not undersranding why he is tired when he gets home.

I think you guys are misunderstanding the mother-in-law. She said at the end that she likes her a lot and considers her to be her daughter. Sure she nags but don’t all moms? Usually in Korea newlyweds live w/ the husbands family for a while. But it’s obvious that they didn’t do that, otherwise she wouldn’t always be there. She even bought her a Korean book & opted to teach her. Now if she really hated her would she go through all that trouble, even making sure she had time alone? I don’t think so. She’s just a little rough around the edges, but she cares a lot & it shows.

Ah, the culture difference is so clear in this one. I can tell, because I live in Holland and I myself am asian. Asian (grand)parents tend to be very protective over their children and grandchildren. They also want to help whenever they can. They feel like that's their responsibility. Especially since the couple's so young and this is their first child. I recognize that part a lot, the worrying about the grandchild, the lecturing about house work and cleaning etc. I see that a lot in my family. xD In Holland, having a cold is a very common thing for children and parents tend to be relaxed and laid back about it, unless it's flu w/ fever.

I was in the exact same situation as you with no help of in-laws over 20 years ago. i felt really lonely & lost. Plus I dropped out of college after the junior year for a new life. So I can completely emphasize with you. You are an extremely bright woman. Please explore Korea & learn korean as fast as you can! Knowing the language will be your #1 surviving skill. I also think you need to go back to school as soon as you can. A woman needs education & the ability to earn money to be independent & strong, especially someone like you. you have the whole world to explore. I wish I had your contact info to offer you emotional support/advice, although from a long distance. it is not going to be easy but you can do it!!! please go back to school as soon as you can!!! please get your mother-in-law's help to go back to school.
