Sum and his family are so kind and hardworking. I hope for the best for them, seriously. Some things are upsetting but they are strong so i know theyll get through it. what a lovely family!

I wanted to cry seeing how even the little kids avoided Amira. Kids just want someone to play with, and it is heartbreaking to see how even at that early age their parents already taught them to be scared of different people. That's one of the things I hate about South Korea, the old generations are stuck with a closed mindset, and although the young ones are open to international and new stuff, at the end the adults and old people make the decisions and lead the society, so it will take a while for them to have an open minded society.

***** No, it is not intimidating if they teach you from a young age about the differences in human beings. Neglecting to teach that is creating irrational fear that leads to racism. I know what I'm talking about, I'm not jumping into conclusions. Koreans as individuals have, of course, a variety of all kinds of mindsets and specially the teenagers and young adults are really open to globalization and are used to seeing diversity coming from the western world, but Koreans as a society are known to be racist. It is a fact, but it is so in between their culture that it does not feel racist, because it is normal for them to point out at black people, to ask them if they can rub their skin or touch their hairor tell them they look like Obama. They don't mean bad, but it is insensitive nevertheless. If no one point out to them that what they do is harmful, they will never change. And people like you undermining it and brushing it under the caroet are, to cite you, "not helping in fact you're making it worst"..

Sum and Flora's family is seriously the cutest! I really hope people in Korea give the family as much love as they're giving Zachary because they're problems seems to be a lot more grand than Zachary's problem of not being able to speak Korean....

I really love Sum's family. It really hurt me to see how the other kids would stray away from them and the parents would also take them away. Bigotry and ignorance is not an excuse AT ALL! Him and his wife know 2-3 languages, work hard and still have a hard time. Then you have the white boy who barely knows any damn Korean but still have a better and easier time. Don't get me wrong I believe his business is great and thriving but it shows that white people have a major advantage just because of the color of their skin. It's the truth.

+yumiko0017 I can totally relate to Almira's situation. I'm a Filipino not born and raised in Philippines. My family moved to one of the Philippines neighboring countries before i was born. Since i was 5 my parents have been sending me to a local Chinese School where the main language is Mandarin. i I remember when i was in kinder (back when i was a 5 yr old). i will get pinch, made fun of and get curse at, got scolded by my classmates's mother for doing nothing all because i'm not Chinese and i have tanned skin, but for them i'm black. I'm not saying all Chinese are mean, my Chinese homeroom teacher was nice she was the only one who has the courage to play with me when my classmates think i'm a disease or something. However, even after 10 years of receiving Chinese education some of my Chinese friends still make racist jokes like calling me Filipino maid, i'm not a Filipino maid but i respect all those Filipino maid because they are doing a decent and honorable job just to provide for their family. To all the dark skin people out there, don't worry you're not alone remember you are more than your skin color, when people are mean do good anyway.

Kids are like that. I was not around other kids and i remember avoiding them because i thought they were too excited and foolish. They in return had rude questions like where you born in a tipi. Basically all kids have fears and or are rude because they have no filter. Im sure in time they will have the best of friends in Korea. Hugs to Sum & Flora. Best neighbor charles so far :)

"Kids are like that." Did we watch the same clip? Those kids strayed away because they were black. Their parents were no better. I'm glad their ignorance was displayed on national tv. It's a shame a beautiful family like Sum's receives so much treatment.

yumiko0017 Yes they did, and yes its part of the parents fault. But i dont blame the kids. It's natural for kids to be scared of the unfamiliar and be blunt. It is shameful the way sum & family was treated and that i can agree.

It looks like Ana will have good in-laws, especially an understanding mother in law who will help her in a kind manner and be understanding. Such a contrast from the first few episodes I watched where Giulia's mother in law was so overbearing and demanding. She wanted her daughter in law to be the typical Korean house wife right by yesterday. lol Also a contrast to recent episodes after this one, where Ibaila doesn't give a flying f... about his in-laws, about being a good son to them, or about living in Korea or trying to adapt etc. His mother in law nags him a lot but if you watch it, he actually deserves it. He still has it easy though compared to Giulia.

When Sum's family is singing happy birthday in french you made a mistake , it's not "joyeuse anniversaire" (even if it's how you tell it) but "joyeux anniversaire" ! I really enjoyed Mr.Hong's participation , he was very kind , funny and have a lot of tips . By the way if they search french people to make crepes they can call me ! Haha

Wow, I can't believe the Korean workers accepted Flora into their circle and warmed up to her. (I hope it's true). I really wish MN,C PD will do a review episode where they can show us what each student of is doing now, how they are faring after the show etc. I really want to know if the Soup shop really did keep Flora on permanently after another week or they just said it to make themselves look nice on camera. I am so hurt and pissed off by how the kids kept moving away from Amira & Isaac. They were avoiding and being afraid of them because of their skin colour. Those kids obviously picked this up from their parents. It's definitely their upbringing.

I'm kinda surprised that Sum and her wife didn't teach Isaac and Amira to speak their first language though. Like usually, parents who can communicate in two languages will teach their children to speak in 2 languages since they were little. Seems kinda weird to me, lol

yumiko0017 unfortunately there are many people who are ignorant but i also know plenty of people who are welcoming and open. i know a mother of two children that often took my friends kids who were african american with her kids to play. of course this show just wanted to highlight the problem but believe me korea is becoming more open and plenty of open and welcoming people exist.

kids adapt to a new culture very quickly. actually all ages are capable of doing this. they will experience acculturative stress, but in a society where people don't tell you to go away and move away from you because of your dark skin colour, they will grow up to be happier people.

I'm grimacing *so* much watching that Ivorian toddler and her brother being avoided ... conversely, the dad met some affable ajummas in the market. Shame Sum didn't seem to get much screen time in the studio with the rest of the waygooks. Onto the upcoming new members, I'll be eager to see the Indian restaurant workers. That little mixed boy of the Bulgarian dad looked far more Korean than white.

I've seen people saying Sum's family should move somewhere else: 1. Who said they have the financial means to move in the first place? 2. Why run away and intentionally avoid people thereby facilitating their acceptance of pathetic behavior? You don't adjust because of the system, YOU adjust the SYSTEM so it accepts you. The more people get used to seeing black skin in person, the more they realize the person under it is the same as everyone else.

I am korean I am living here with my English husband, I am working in here and it is so hard even I can speak English because of the different Accents from people more suprising is some people say Can u speak English? in front of me.because I could not catch their saying..But you know what? my English Colleagues also ask saying again to people because we are dealing with so many people a day.. How can they expect us to concerntrate them all the time? and people in here show irritated face seriously if I did not get their saying...etcs I hope at least Korea welcome people.

Their boss paie the hospitalisation, they receive voucher, ... In the episode 12 The advice to massage it s crazy. The asiats don t like to be touch...

as i mention b4. Korean are still tradisional especially the country side. Nothing wrong with tradisional however it be at least 5 to 10 years b4 integration happen and stereotype really start to breakdown. As korea become more global this will happen gradually and they will be able to find that middle ground between tradision and open mindedness.

Sum would do much better in Japan. Japanese are more open to foreigners and there are many American military bases around Japan. So there are more used to interacting with foreigners. Even though Sum's not from America, there is a bigger support network for foreigners in Japan. Sum's children are young, but they're young enough to adapt to Japan.

+chamcham123 Strongly disagree! I lived in Japan for 4 years and it is just as same as in South Korea - except Japanese are passive aggressive - they will talk behind your back! Also, there are also many U.S military bases around Korea as well.

It's sad to see the comments where Koreans are being called out as racist against Blacks, yet, somehow, no one seems to want to explain how this racism was a result of the occupying white Americans who perpetuated their prejudices in Korea with their "white only" agenda.

+Fluffy Hi there,i don't remember why Sum went to Korea but Flora went there because she was part of an African dance troupe that performed in Korea and they met through a blind date set up by mutual friends and their children were born in Korea.

I really just Love how people are basing their thoughts of how Koreans are based off of Variety shows. I'm sorry although yes I do feel extremely bad for Sum's family, but the is not just in Korea. It is WORLD Wide. When people see something in real life that they have only seen in the Media, they tend to react to them according to the stereotype that the Media Portrays. So don't blame Koreans in general. I'm tired of seeing those comments and living in America itself and how things are right now, gives me even more of a headache. If you guys want an Example to maybe better understand through a non-race related stand points, that would be Sharks. People think they are vicious man eating animals that kill people for fun…but they are far from that -_-…but thats how people react. So does that mean all Humans are Animal Haters.

The fact is we live in a world that has different cultures ... so we have to think more openly to outside cultures ....I like this TV show .. it makes people know and understand each other's differences
