You can turn off auto-brights once you engage autopilot. Just push forward on the left stalk or unselect auto-brights from the screen. The car will still drive in autopilot even with them off.

Confirmed, that is what I was going to let Ryan know. Don't stop using AP because of the lights! You just have to turn off auto every time you engage AP. Yes, it is still stupid, but better than not using AP at night.
@blower1

Yes this works, however if you disengage autopilot and reengage (when changing lane for example and only having basic AP) - then it will reenable the auto high beams and you have to turn them off again. It doesn't mean you can't use AP - but it is annoying having to keep disabling the auto high beams.

When my 2022 M3LR arrove, it was left at the curb in front of the house. (I had an appointment to pick it up 2 days later). Imagine my surprise when I went to check the mail and there was a brandy new red M3LR sitting at the curb. Locked. I restarted my Tesla app and it appeared, with the ability to unlock it. After inspecting it all over, I tried to start it. No soap. But the app said something like "To accept the delivery, click here". When I did, the car came to life and all was well. From the order to driving it away from my curb, I never spoke to a human being.

When I delivered cars as an OA at Tesla, we’d hide in the bushes until our ride arrived to pick us up. Having to talk to people wastes time which we couldn’t afford to do, especially near the end of the quarter.

@@michaelwbsin Wow. Just Wow. My 2nd Model 3 was delivered in Mar 2020 at the beginning of the COVID panic. Two blue M3s pulled to the curb, one mine. Guy got out wearing a surgical mask, plastic see through hood, and hospital scrubs! I thought I was gonna get my pacemaker installed at the curb. He asked if we could mask up, and gave me 2 masks. Outside fer crysake! At arms length he proffered a plastic wrapped IPad and stylus. I asked to have the car opened for inspection, and proceeded to go over the car from bumper to bumper, tracks to the stack (I had taken delivery of my first M3SR+ the month before at the service center, perfect condition). I found one tiny error, and pronounced the car acceptable, signed the IPad, receivd 2 cards (wrapped in plastic, natch!), he mounted up and rode away. We were almost laughing ourselves silly. The steering wheel was wrapped in plastic, and I had the thought that Tesla had missed an Elon Moment. They should have used one of the paper bands like you used to get on the toilet seat when checking in to a hotel. "Sanitized for your Protection". As to the Dec 2 delivery, I was happy as a clam that I got my car 2 days earlier than the appointment and 2 weeks earlier than the forecast. All 3 are humming along just fine, no real issues, and i'm as happy as a poule d'eau in a canary's cage, although I am kinda Jonesing for a Model S.

You basically just talked me out of buying a Tesla. Basic Autopilot doesn’t work correctly and I have to manually plug it in when I want to charge and manually unplug it when I don’t. No sensors other than vision? Is there a camera on the front bumper to tell me where something down low is I can’t see? Other EV’s are just as good or better with more sensors now as long as you don’t need to charge on the road. I guess they still have the best charging network and that’s it.

For the auto brights while in autopilot, if you push the left stock forward, that will turn off the auto brights. Every time you re-engage the auto pilot you will have to push the left stock forward to shut off the auto brights. Kind of annoying but it does work.

I added this comment on your other video before this was posted, so re-posting in case it helps others. "I do love my Model Y that I 've had for about a month. However, do a really good walkaround at delivery. I had a chip in the clear coat on the edge of my left rear door (driver's side rear door) that had to have been done during assembly. While my wheels seemed to be in alignment, my steering wheel was cocked to the right a few degrees. The steering wheel issue was fixed but still waiting on the paint issue to be fixed. With service, it feels like a Burger King drive thru....but I should not have to deal with them much." I did notice that the hatch on my car has a larger gap on the left than the right, but when I saw the other Y's on the lot they were all that way. Not a big deal.

I had a Chinese built Model 3 LR. The car was pretty good overall, but my niggle was the Speedo being in the centre of the dash, auto lights having a will of their own and the interior wearing badly in just 6 months. Tesla service was also not very reassuring. So I sold it and purchased an Audi RS GT. It’s quit honestly a world apart from the Tesla. The headlights are unbelievably good. The build quality is top notch, the ease of controls while driving are much safer. Comfort and interior quality is in another class altogether. Panel gaps and paintwork are spot on and it’s just so planted on the road it feels amazing. Downsides are the price, but close to the Model S Plaid, and the range. Tesla score highly in this category as the Audi is 100 mile short, but the charging ability is very quick on the Audi which helps and to be honest, I feel that when on long journeys a break every 250 miles is sensible. Would I go back to Tesla………only if they payed better attention to there customers requirements and not treat them like they were an unimportant part of there production line! Elon is a clever guy but has much to learn about good will and will gradually loose the battle of best selling EV now other manufacturers are catching up unless he wakes up.

Tesla's competitors must be very grateful for this video as you make it abundantly clear that this car is unfit for sale. If I experienced half the problems you list I would be suing the manufacturer for fraud. I am chomping at the bit to get an EV but this brand is 100% off the list of candidates. Thank you such an eye-opening explanation of why to avoid this car maker completely.

Same here for weeks. Took it into Tesla and they replaced the charge module, with no change. I was about to take it in again but read about optiwatt controlling charging. So I thought I'd set up Optiwatt to override the Tesla charge app. What I found was that manage charging was on, but there wasn't anything set up. So I turned optiwatt off and now the Tesla app works flawlessly. I did try to set up optiwatt, but for me it was not intuitive and I never got it set up right. I still have it installed for data but keep "manage charging" turned off. Beware of any 3rd party apps that can control charging. Make sure it's set up right before you enable it.

Well Ryan, I just got a used 2020 Model Y. I like the car... But the phantom braking, random use of the wipers, and the right rear window randomly rolling itself down really gets on my nerves. I'm selling the car in March, I've had my fill of Tesla service, and the BS the car puts me through. My phantom braking is pretty severe - like a good 20mph decrease. FSD is also a joke, we have a 2-lane roundabout, and it 💩's itself everytime. I'm not new to Tesla, I purchased a Model 3 in 2020, and all the same issues, editor except the window rolling down.
@adamackels73

@@joesolo7719 You think that's bad? Keep in mind, my Dad - who's the only person in the world who would help me, just passed away less than 60 days ago. I got on the app, and scheduled an appointment with Tesla, so they could come to me to fix the issue with the window... All set up, then they changed it to I have to take the car to them... Ok, no problem.. Then I get another message, they need the car for the day, and this repair isn't eligible for a loaner car.... So, an I suppose to walk home, over 60 miles away? If your redirecting me too have another ride home, they're severely mistaken. So, it'll remain broken. I'm not too overly pleased with Tesla service.

I took delivery of a new Y in August. I was a previous X owner and was crossing my fingers that a lot of the issues I had with that car wouldn't show up in the Y. I drove about 2 hours for delivery and on the way home a rattle/vibration started somewhere in the lift gate area of the car. My stomach dropped. Difficult to diagnose noise complaints are never an easy fix. Passengers also complained of feeling very little air flow while AC was running from the dash "vent". I promptly entered both into the app for service. I also drive about 2 hours for service so I REALLY need things corrected in one trip. Surprisingly I got a call from a service tech to talk though the vent issue pre-appointment. Never had anything like that before. I think they thought I was just unfamiliar with the single dash vent of the Y. I did learn some control features of the vent that I probably wouldn't have otherwise known about but still felt like something was wrong. On the day of my appointment it was raining and they mentioned that diagnosing noise issue is hard in the rain but, pleasantly surprised, they found and issue and fixed it. Also replaced a vent assembly on the passenger side. I'm a couple months in and haven't had any other reasons to schedule a service call. It is much quieter in regards to wind noise than the X. Similar in road noise, I agree, they aren't super quiet vehicles. It does have a little rougher ride, I miss the air suspension from the X a bit. Did get the cargo cover but don't like the design and pulled it out of the car. Preferred the trunk bin design of the X. You could leave the bin cover propped up and have easy access to the bin. I almost always used the bin. It keeps things from sliding around. The cover design of the Y doesn't allow it to easily be propped so I do get slide around in the cargo area. I don't miss the expansive windshield at all, I think the view of the road is better in the Y. The dash sits lower because of the elimination of any gauge clusters. I always thought the blind spots in the X were pretty bad, not as bad in the Y. Love having legit sunshades. I drive my son to school facing east every morning and those little X ones didn't quite cut it. I like the X seats better, thought they were just a bit comfier, a little wider, a little deeper, but it's a bigger car. I have experienced those Tesla vision braking things during adaptive cruise. I'm that not much of a Tesla nerd and didn't realize that might be tied to the use of cameras rather than a different type of sensor. They haven't been squeal wheels type of situations but enough that you get a little adrenaline burst and the tailgaters behind probably wonder what the heck I'm doing. I did a fair bit of grumbling about my X and still signed up to buy another Tesla. I think that says something about how we feel about the Tesla experience overall. Not perfect, but better than gas.

Tesla is a Technology company, not a software company. There are software bugs in my 2013 Model S that I know will never be fixed. And since I am a retired software engineer I know that with access to the source code I could resolve all my issues in just a couple of weeks of work. The entertainment software is just so clumsy and has always been so. Not limited to Tesla, delivered software got a lot worse once bugs could be repaired with network updates (sometime after 1994). Management would say ship it and we can fix bugs later. The problem is they never get around to fixing anything but showstoppers. Even with these software issues my 2013 Model S with 160k miles is still the best car I have ever owned. I even have a Model Y on order. I know I am going to miss the air suspension and SXM radio in my Model S (and the free supercharging which has saved me around $13000 vs an ICE car).

I took delivery of my Model Y June 17, 2022 after waiting 7.5 months. I had no issues at delivery and accepted it. I have only about 800 miles on the Y at this time and I have been having air conditioning and heat problems. I scheduled a service appoint a the local service in Delray Beach near my home. I dropped the car off on Sunday afternoon. The app said they let me know when the vehicle would be ready. The app indicated that the estimated time of delivery was after 3 pm on Monday. It was not, four days later a got the notification at 8 AM that i could pick up my car any time. I was busy so i went in after 4 PM to pick up my car. When I received the invoice it indicated that they had found a wire broken on the selfie camera and set up a home service appointment to fix that. That was on afternoon I drove th car Friday morning to a n appointment just two miles from my house and the air conditioning stopped working twice on the way there and once on the way home an hour later. Needless to say I’m not a happy camper. I found that turning the A/C system off and back on will temporarily fix it. I’m like you that is not very god for a $65,000 vehicle. I got much better service and treatment from the Volvo Dealer on My $40,000 Volvo XC40. VERY FRUSTRATING!

I also have been expecting an upgrade to the main motherboard and processor due to the demands of FSD and other software. I have held off buying because new problems still seem to be popping-up. One of the latest complains I have heard has to do with limited number of "Tesla Certified" body repair shops. Not enough shops means that the cost of a repair skyrockets relative to using a non-certified shop. And, I am told, if you don't use a "certified" shop; you lose your warranty. I also heard that the one, and only, certified shop in my area (Reno Nevada) had to pay Tesla an astronomical price to get their certification. The individual I talked to trailered his Tesla from Reno to Sacramento because the Reno price quote was insanely high. This would make an interesting topic for a future video. A second topic is likely related to the first, and that has to do with the cost of Tesla Insurance. The Tesla owner I talked to said Tesla Insurance was higher than other insurance. This could happen if the cost of body shop repairs were exorbitant. This could also make a great subject on a future video. Anyhow, your videos are very informative, and I try to see all of them. Thanks...

Received my Model Y LR on August 15, 2022 in Grand Rapids, MI. The wood trim on the dash was pushed up in the middle less than 1/2”. I pushed it down and it has been fine ever since. Three plastic grommets were missing from the left front wheel well. In addition to replacing them Tesla service installed mud flaps, which is a standard practice in Michigan. The central cover on my steering wheel air bag was askew in such a way that pressing the right side would activate the horn, but pressing the left side wouldn’t… unless I pressed hard. Tesla replaced the whole steering wheel and, in the process, made some fine adjustments to the new wheel’s cover. The horn works fine now. Interestingly, the service staff showed me a two year old Model Y with the same problem. The driver’s side front door drops down on the latch side maybe 1/16” when opened and sounds different than the other doors when being closed, but I think that is a minor issue. I’ll live with it. All-in-all, it is a great car and loads of fun to drive. And it is quieter and provides a smoother ride than the 2021 Model Y I test drove.

I took delivery of my model Y (from Fremont) on Sept. 24th and it did not have a cargo cover but did have the matrix headlights. Interesting that they are including on some and not all. Also, the Tesla shop customer service is absolutely TERRIBLE as well. I ordered a mobile charging kit when I ordered the vehicle and it never came. I reached out to the email address I was given by the store where I took delivery from (no phone number available) and got an automatic reply requesting to allow up to 5 days to respond. After no response, despite two more email follow ups and 2.5 weeks later, I finally ended up canceling the original order and placing a new one. It's absurd that Tesla can't figure out how to ship a charger when the vehicle delivery is scheduled. Having an EV with no way to charge it at home makes it exponentially more inconvenient to own than a gas car. My advice to anyone ordering a Tesla, order the charging on a separate order.

I ordered my Model Y LR September 2021 and took delivery in Sept 2022. Mine was from Fremont and did not have a cargo cover like yours, but in my market I get mud flaps and rear PPF. First Tesla but it has already spent 2 days in the shop. After about 600 mi the rear suspension started squeaking. The bushing for the rear sub assembly for the suspension was installed incorrectly at the factory. It is very much one of the tighter rides for an SUV Even with the 19-in tires. Gravel roads in the Midwest are... An experience... For people in the back.

I had a ton of paint issues with my MYLR delivery along with some damaged interior trim pieces. Scheduled a service appointment at the Centinela location and it wasn’t until my appt a few days after delivery that the lead tech told me at my appt that they can’t do paint work there since they farm it out to Jack and Jim’s in El Segundo. Then they attempted to apologize for my service advisors inability to inform me ahead of time but acted like it wasn’t a big deal. They pushed my appt a whole month while they order sand wait for some interior parts to arrive before they say they will love that up. The one outstanding dash trim piece doesn’t have an ETA for delivery so no idea when I can get the items they can do there and have someone come down to look at the paint from the body shop.

Recently got a 2022 model 3 long range. Having problems with the windshield wipers and cruise control/auto pilot. Wipers stopped in a downpour while passing an 18 wheeler creating a very dangerous situation. For a few seconds…seemed like minutes… I could not see anything. I don’t set my wipers on auto anymore! The second problem is with the autopilot. It is useless and dangerous. It suddenly brakes the car causing the car behind to take evasive measures to avoid hitting me. This has even happened on a desert road with nothing around three times in a row. I contacted Tesla service and they responded that there was nothing they could do since it was not a mechanical issue…that I would have to wait for a possible software update. I find this totally unacceptable and dangerous.

Thanks for the video Ryan, You are able to turn off the auto brights. There are a couple ways to do this, right when you engage autopilot, you can "double tap" the auto-bright icon to disable. Autopilot will still be engaged. If you aren't fast enough for that, or forget, you can tap the auto-bright icon to bring up the headbeam menu below the car. Same thing, "double tap" the auto-brights.

I just spent a couple of weeks trying to solve a similar (but not identical) charging issue with my 2021 Model Y. It turned out to be MCE (Marin County Energy) who persuaded me to install their MCESync app to save money and the planet with clean energy. I deleted the app from my phone but the car still refused to charge at home either on scheduled charge or just by hitting the 'charge now' button. It would charge for a while, then just stop for no reason. I solved the issue by changing my password. I guess their servers are still logging in and controlling the charge cycle. Let's see you tell my car to stop charging now, sucker!!!

Thanks Ryan! I feel grateful to you for encouraging me (and everyone else) to "buy now" back in the summer of 2021 instead of waiting for 4680s or a possible EV rebate. I don't have most of the issues you list in this video. I don't have a problem with off-peak charging. For 6 months or so there has been very little phantom braking. For me the auto-brights and auto-wipers generally work well and are more of a help than a hindrance. Some of this may be because I live and drive in rural New Mexico. I had a great experience with the El Paso Service Center. OTOH, when I was buying the car communication was terrible and I had a horrible delivery experience. For the first 6 months or so, autopilot had some struggles but now it feels very reliable. A few weeks ago autopilot saved the life of a young deer that ran in front of my car. By the time I noticed the deer the car had already started hard braking and we missed it by inches.

My Tesla model Y, delivered March this year, rides really hard. I had a model 3 that I traded in but this model Y is awful. It's like the suspension is made of cement. It's mainly that low rumble you talk about. It's awful. It's like being inside a bass drum with somebody pounding on it. It's a compressive low frequency noise that I've never experienced before. I imagine that the glass roof is popping up and down with motion from the road and then compressing the air inside. But when I touch a glass it's not moving. Can't figure out where it's coming from. I do have an old Toyota RAV4 which has none of this low frequency thrumming. The model Y is unique in its inside-a-base-drum noise. I bought a DB meter to check sound levels, but it doesn't measure this low frequency. Nonetheless, the model Y makes the same amount of noise as my empty RAV4. About 69 DB on a flat cement road at 55 mph. I really don't know what to do. Do you have any advice? I know there are shops in California (I live in Houston) that can replace the front suspension. That's expensive and not really available. Probably destroy the warranty as well. But this damn thing telegraphs every bump in the road. It's awesome! I'm very disappointed. I used to look forward to driving a new car that I just got. But now I dread getting in into the Y. Almost cringe.
@marcpelegrin8573
@marcpelegrin8573 Год назад
Try adjusting the rubber adjusters in your trunk. You can check videos on RU-vid. It is called "trunk buffeting". Apparently this low frequency noise comes from the trunk. If the rubber adjusters have full contact your problem will be solved. Try using a piece of paper, ajust, put paper, close the trunk pull the paper. Adjust until paper can not be pull out without braking

I received a China built 2022 Model Y about the same time as you. The build quality was excellent, but there were two flaws requiring a service visit. First was an annoying rattle from the passenger door which turned out to be just the seat belt fastening rattling on the door piler! Service guy said it was a known design fault with a permanent fix on the way. He installed a temporary rubber buffer which has fixed it. More worrying was that Hold did not work on steep hills. It would fail to bring the car to a stop when the accelerator pedal was released and on very steep hills would fail to hold from stopped when the brake pedal was released. Service claimed it was fixed, actually it seems to have been improved a little, but still not completely right. I will need to get back on to it, but I can live with it for now as I'm used to it. It was very alarming for my first few days as I have a steeply sloping driveway. On the positive side, some unexpected benefits relative to yours. It came with both a Home Charger and a charging cable for non-Tesla public chargers. There was also a comprehensive roadside emergency kit which is not a legal requirement here in the UK. There was a much better parcel shelf than yours made of the same material as the floor of the cargo compartment which definitely improves acoustics. Plus it had rear mud-flaps and paint protection film patches in front of the rear wheels. You are quite right that they should tell us about this stuff - I almost bought some of them as after-market extras to be ready for delivery!

Schedule a time to charge or condition the car and it will change the time or turn itself on without you knowing it. Turn it off so it doesn't so it doesn't repeat it the following day for example and it will turn itself back on, some times changing the time to another previously used time. I call it Russian Roulette scheduling, have to constantly check on it and try to manually start it just before it's needed

I took delivery of a 2022 Red Long Range Model Y September 1, 2022. Order date was Oct 26, 2021. It has the Sport Wheels. We have NOT found the ride particularly rough with these wheels and were impressed with the smooth ride. We did NOT get a Cargo Cover but I don't see a need for it because one cannot see inside the back of the car. The tinted window makes seeing inside the back very difficult. I have almost 800 miles on the car. I found no issues with the car when picking up it up or since driving it. Initially, I was told I would have to pick it up in Kansas City but when the time came for delivery the car was sent to Oklahoma City (where I live) because we were paying cash. I didn't understand that but it was great we didn't have to drive to another state to pick it up. We live in a small state and found it easy to contact people about delivery. When we picked up the car the local Tesla dealer had gone over the vehicle and spent an hour with us showing different functions on how the car worked. I have played around with Auto Pilot and Auto Steer during the daytime so have not experienced the high bean and windshield wiper issue. However, driving at night I have NOT figured out how to turn the high beam headlights on so they stay on. They come on when I push the end button on the window wiper shift and they turn off when I release the button. We often drive a route that is a long, lonely drive and it would be nice if the high beams stayed on. They are VERY bright which is great on a lonely road. I'm still learning and have been watching your videos for some time. Thanks for all the info.

Agree with your comments! We are lucky in NZ that the cars coming from Shanghai seem to be very good in quality. I didn't find any issues with mine (received in March) and so with 9000km on the clock everything is fine. Autopilot on the other hand, as you have pointed out, is not so good. What bothers me is that even when using adaptive cruise control (without autosteer), which we do a lot in NZ as most roads are not motorways, also forces some of the feature on I don't want - like auto high beam (which is worse than useless) and also lane departure correction / warning which are often triggered when trying to use all the road here.
