Excellent choice, in my humble opinion. I bought an FE new in 1982 and it still works perfectly. I had to have the rear door latch repaired a couple of years ago because it developed a bad habit of popping open at the worst possible times. Otherwise, totally reliable. Have never understood why some folks seem to "dislike" Nikon. However, Canon on the other hand🤣.

Hey Chris, well that is very reassuring to hear so thanks 😀 It seems like everything I had read was spot on then. Hopefully I get to enjoy it for as long as you did. I bet you couldn't wait to get the film out with that issue happening randomly 😂 Yeah not totally sure myself I think half the people just jump on the bandwagon tbh. Never used Canon so I can't comment on that one haha

You definitely bought the right camera and have used the right film. I have had an FE (in black) since 1980 and it looks and works as well today as when it was new. Nikon's engineering and quality were the best back then and possibly still are. Check the date on your roll of Fuji C200. If it is brand new, it should be the exact same emulsion as Kodak Gold. Fuji made their own C200 film up to around 3 years ago but discontinued it as they wanted to get out of the film manufacturing business. However, they have recently decided to stay in it, possibly because a lot of their current digital cameras deliberately have retro styling and top-plate control dials to make them look like the old film SLRs. So they may want to get more film camera enthusiasts interested in their brand. Anyway, that's my theory. In the past I have found that Kodak Gold 200 was a significantly superior film to the old Fuji C200 both in terms of grain and colours but now, of course, the new Fuji C200 is the same thing (but cheaper for some reason!), Fuji having done a deal with Kodak a couple of years ago to supply them Gold 200 packaged in Fuji style boxes! One tip for colour negative work: shoot at half the ISO setting stated on the box.

Hey Michael, thanks for all the info I certainly didn't know that. I don't think I have the box for the C200 anymore but I will have a look because that would be interesting to know. I did shoot at half box speed more when I started film actually but I do find the risk of overexposure is higher than underexposure at least with the Nikon anyway.

Just bought this camera knowing nothing about cameras, but how did you adjust the contrast on the film photos? Do you develop the negatives at home by yourself, did you get digital copies from a lab, or is there an adapter one can purchase? Thank you in advance, this is a wonderful video.

Hey there! You made a great choice, these are great cameras 👍 I get my filmed developed and scanned at a lab and then If needed I will make a few subtle adjustments in Lightroom maybe just a tweak to white balance contrast and saturation if needed. Thanks btw glad you enjoyed it. Have fun with the camera, the 50mm 1.8 lens is great too.

Ah a Nikon! Time for the good old Nikon bashing 😂 I was half expecting a Leica, but maybe because I want there to be a Leica in every brown box that arrives at my own house. Lovely video as usual guys. Pity about the lost frames, I wonder what happened?! I know on mu 35mm cams I always wait for the sound of the film releasing from the dial, but even then I roll like 5 more times to make sure it’s very wound. I used to use a Nikon D700 I think, when I worked as a photographer on the cruise ships, and I absolutely hated that thing. But that was digital, I do think their film cameras as so damn popular for good reasons, so I think you made a great choice. 🙌
@MacnTeensVisuals
@MacnTeensVisuals 2 года назад
😂 Oh dear, hate coming my way haha That's a lot of very expensive brown boxes floating around 😅Cheers Brendon appreciate that. Yeah not totally sure but I think when I pushed the little button in at the bottom it maybe didn't release the film because I rolled it back way more than I needed too, like you did haha Oh really, not fun using a camera you hate haha Some of those Nikon digital cameras really are very ugly Indeed I must say. Yeah I think so too, all I have seen about the film cameras are great reviews or at least for the FE anyway so seems like it's a good choice, fingers crossed 🤞

@@MacnTeensVisuals I think Nikon was the most popular film camera brand of all time, if I'm not mistaken... around the time they were making the FE as well. So you'll almost never be short of extra parts for repair. But even still they were popular for their reliability and performance so the likelihood of you needing a repair is virtually non-existent I would imagine. Plus! Nikon at that time had some amazing glass man. I've got an old Nikon 50mm 1.2 that probably my sexiest lens I own tbh. Good choice all round!
@MacnTeensVisuals
@MacnTeensVisuals 2 года назад
@@thefilmdaddy Yeah I believe you are right on that. Seems to be quite a choice of lenses which is always nice, I'm sure I'll pick a few up along the way. From what I've read they are quite the workhorse so should be fine I think. I did see some of those older lenses and totally agree they look damn nice 😛

@@MacnTeensVisuals I haven't tried one but I am sure it is great. If I wanted to try a body with aperture priority it is a tossup whether I'd complete my F trifecta with an F3 or just get the cheaper FE with most of the same functions sans swappable prisms/focusing screens
