Excellent choice Darcy (but as a V7ista i'm a bit biased). 12k miles on mine and i love it as much as day one. For me, bar end mirrors improve the look considerably, of the Stone at least. I haven't gonw for slip-ons due to the cost, so looking forward to hearing about that (I feel sound quality has improve a fair bit with age). Happy riding... and i know you'll enjoy random people asking you about it.

The V7 850 Special is a lovely looking bike , must admit I prefer the original metallic blue paint scheme to the black one however it doesn't change the fact your new toy is indeed an excellent replacement for your Harley.

Mistral or Agostini slip-ons are available in stainless, polished steel and they sound better (okay, the originals are also very sweet but more bass is better) and the looks are the same or similar as the original ones (depends on the model). I bought Agostinis for my V9 Roamer and it sounds much better now and in my case, same style and look and also the weight is a lil bit less than the original.

@@davidmallia628 My experience: I changed mine to Mistrals just 4 weeks after the purchase because I got an opportunity to pick them up used for half the price. Yes, they sound great BUT now the bike is always pretty loud whereas the stock exhaust could br driven "quiet" but also got quite loud once you cranked the RPM. Took some time to get used to constant higher volume....sometimes I miss that moment when the bike switched from tame to loud with the stock exhaust. Mistral also offers some "silent db eater" that have to be ordered directly if you want something in-between Stock and Mistral-Stock.

Great choice, although I’m a little biased as I have one myself. Customising? Then it’s time for engine bars, Mistral short slip on exhausts, centre stand, front mudguard extension and a USB power point for your phone. A great bike: it does everything well! Coming from a Softail myself. Have 2k miles on my 2023 Stone and had the first service. Some tips I hope you find helpful Darcy: • Until your first service, the TC may be locked on 2. Far too intrusive, esp. on rough roads. • If the seat is causing pain, don't hesitate to get one of their (great) gel comfort seats (for you the tall may be best). • I installed 1" riser spacers that look stock (MSG me if you want a link). Perfect position. 2" also avail. • Get the Mistral slip-ons. Worth every cent. Removable DB-Killers. I went with the long ones. • The UP-Map device and tune transforms this bike. No 1st gear dead spot, smooths the 3.5k-4k roughness, POWER! • Did I mention getting the tune? • My favorite bike (once tuned) in over 40yrs of riding. Don't miss the Harley a bit. • Get the tune. (Forgot to mention it...)

In was commuting 225 miles when I gave Guzzi as a brand a turn. I needed 100% reliability. It was year 2000. The wiring was Bocsh and sealed and I enjoyed reliability and home maintenance cutting my costs. There is a good club and forums too. Then went to BMW. When I rode a Guzzi at the time, biking folk were quite wary of the brand often negative. Apart from paint issues they were reliable. Gearbox took a while to warm, say 6 miles, visceral riding. No fiddly chain. What they produce now are really good bikes. Surprised not to see more of them. Congratulations. Enjoy!

The gearbox on the V7 850 also needs to warm up. It cazn be tricky to switch to 2nd gear right after start-up ( mostly in colder weather) But overall, super easy to maintain. Oil change is straight forward, no chain, just fluid changes. Valve adjustment is also easy to do at home, but would recommend to get a center stand for it.

I knew it was a Guzzi from the video thumbnail, even with the blackened silhouette...and I knew it was an 850 special even with the blurred camera focus lol. Fantastic choice there, mate! Crazy as it sounds, the bike will loosen up once you hit 15,000 mi (24,140 km). Just how these bikes are. Will shift smooth as butter, purr along like a sewing machine, etc. Neutral is going to be slightly easier to find, but it's always going to have a difficulty level to it. Just how the Guzzi's are. Again, congratulations on it!

I haven't upgraded though as I love my V7 and I've grown really attached to it. I've bought mine 4 years ago and done almost 15,000 miles - and no plans for a replacement any time soon! Thrilled to see how happy you are with your new bike, Darcy! Can’t say I’m surprised: My first ride was a used 2015 Moto Guzzi V7 Stone and the character of it was one of the most unique attractions. That quirky feeling transverse V-twin is something I hope every rider gets to experience at least once! This year, I decided to downsize as I’m older and rather short / lean. I hated to give up the Guzzi but the new Triumph Speed 400 is a better fit for my size and weight. I’ll just live vicariously through you and your new V7 Special - can’t wait to see the mods and tweaks. Cheers! ✌🏼

Excellent motor cycle, sound choice. Maybe they could celebrate 'something' by building a 50's Heritage model - Bright red everything, a polished external flywheel on the motor's 'nose' to fling off dead bugs, hydraulically damped girder forks, & deep, sensuous mudguards, just to help maintain the rider's Stay-prest slacks & handmade faux-otter-skin loafers in near perfect condition. Hang on - "Oh no . . . It's ALL just a dream; just a bloody dream!" . . . Nurrrrr. ('Have at ye wheelchair, like it or not 'old bean', you're in for a damn good thrashing!' : )

Congrats on the new bike Mr Darcy! I purchased a Honda CB1100RS in 2020 after watching your review of that model back during COVID times. This bike looks similar that muscle bike look, muscle bikes are so so so rare over here now because they don't meet Euro5 emissions rules. The CB1100 has been discontinued aswell now so i will never part with it. Anyway i wanted to post here because you look around the same age as me and i always thought it was more popular/ mainstream to get a chopper or Harley but like me you have chosen to go with a muscle bike! just reassures me that i was right to go with my gut and not with the crowd because even someone like you who test rides all these bikes still chose to sell his Harley and buy this beast!

3 reasons really: 1) Obsession, I became obsessed with the Nightster S, I never considered HD before being relatively new to riding and not having any attachment to the old air cooled evolve engines etc. Loved the look of the bike, the tech and the riding experience. 2) My wife was enjoying riding pillion but my V7 although comfy for me wasn't for her, also with a pillion I found the V7 lacked the grunt at higher speeds. 3) I was having some issues with my V7 (namely overheating) which presented as cutting out at lower rpm / changing down as well as running really rough. The dealer network near me isn't the best but I was using a really good independent garage (who was brilliant) - but really this just pushed me to change quicker. If I had the space and the finances I would've kept the V7 but unfortunately I couldn't justify the expense and I don't have the space.

Refreshing review. You like it, so you bought it. Good enough! Those of us who love character and unique experiences will never persuade the haters who have a monotonous fixation on numbers. I have owned my 1967 Moto Guzzi V7 since 1988. It is one of the slowest motorcycles I’ve ever had, and my favorite. I had a 1975 Honda 400 Four SuperSport, another slow motorcycle, completely different character, and also marvelous. Yes, I know the pure adrenaline joy of fast bikes - I’ve had those too, but speed is one dimension. We just love what we love, no excuses needed. Enjoy the Guzzi!

Amazing bike, super happy that you finally made the decision and got yours. I got mine, same spec, last Nov in part thanks to the idea of motorcycling you share in this channel. Unfortunately a car knocked me over and left me without enjoying this beautiful bike just a few weeks later, and I still will be off for a while. Fortunately now I will be able to enjoy it through your videos. Enjoy her soul, cheers from Madrid!

Beautiful bike and choice, Mr. Darcy! I'm happy for you. The thoughts of you and your father are similar to mine on motorcycles in general and the romanticized perspective. I got the 2023 V7 stone in silver here in Miami over the more classic version because for me, it's a good mix between classic / retro and modern in a modern city. I limit chrome because of the climate in Miami being extremely humid and tropical and by the seashore. Friends of mine with H-D's have rust and corrosion within six months. The spoked wheels are ripe for this and then the bike looks terrible and rusty from that point forward. Rust gets in everywhere on such a bike and there is no way to keep up with it. The blacked-out Stone does not have chrome and there is no corrosion to date in six months of ownership that I can find. I wash it frequently not letting water spots or muck set in. I added a front fender extender from the UK (Pyramid, I think) that fits the other plastic parts on the bike. This saves some road filth from spewing up on the engine area and legs. The rear is completely unprotected more than most bikes and gets messy just going through a puddle. I installed a Rizoma wind deflector that fits the style also. It's made of aluminum and look great! Rizoma mirrors also of very high quality. I understand your feeling on the attachment to the bike. The deep rumble and solidity with a wide tank between the legs make it feel manly. It gets smoother and better overall after 1,500 - 2,000 miles. I hope that you enjoy it as I do and keep the videos coming!

❤🎉I have got a V7 850 stone, 2000 miles on and love it, the best crusing . I did made changes to make the bike mine, and yes some expensive. I added engine bars for protection, a screen, a back rack to travel and for pillion, Mistral slip on and yes… suspensions. Absolutely incredible enhancement. I suggest a workshop in Italy, for advice. Guareschi motor. In Parma as they do GT racing with MG and they do customization. It rides supremely. And the braking is better too.. I have done 5 hour trips with pillion and had lots of fun

I've bought a V7 Stone a couple of weeks ago! Great bike! Now after 1500 km and the first inspection it makes even more fun. The sound under full throttle is simply amazing! I have replaced the original exhaust with an aftermarket exhaust from Zard. I think one of the best exhausts on the market to catch the character of the V2 and to strengthen it. I'm looking forward to seeing what upgrades you'll put on your V7. 🙂

Very nice, really does look good 👍, and no doubt even better once modded 🙂, definitely a lot more practical than your previous bike and will almost certainly be more fun as well 👍. It’s odd the way a bike can just grab you, I’ve had over 70 bikes (currently have 9), 2 weeks ago I rode a Triumph 1200 scrambler X, I was bowled over by it, 4 days later I test rode it again, mainly because I couldn’t believe how good it felt the first time, anyway, true love confirmed mine is now in the garage cooling down after today’s ride 🙂👍.

When it comes to retro classic bikes, I prefer 50s/60s styling, but have to say the 70s/80s style of this bike is very nice too. If you're after 'character' then I suppose this one has it for sure, perhaps even more so than a T100, for example. Congrats D, I hope you're very happy on her.

I'm nearing 60, have been riding over 40 years and owned stupid numbers of motorcycles but there are only two I have ever regretted selling...a Harley Dyna Wide Glide and a Guzzi V11 sport. I too changed the exhausts and over time adjusted other parts to work better with me. Loved the shaft drive, eons better than a chain. One of the best things I did was to join the owners club. Enjoy!

Good for you! Beautiful bike - enjoy! Just got a V7 “TEN” in the US - California. Ordering Agostini exhaust - having a Puig windshield installed and a left side bag - it’s at the shop - adjusting clutch cable to maybe help find neutral. Don’t make fun of my windshield - hoping I love it. I have a lot of bikes - windshield’s make it nice at speed. Good luck with yours - love your videos - especially because you do modern retro gentlemen bikes - but do ride the Honda 1100 DCT T - it’s amazing. My other bikes right now a BMw F900XR - Yamaha 250 dirt for my ranch in Colorado - and a Honda Metropolitan Scooter. Enjoy your new bike - congrats - can’t wait to hear your stories. And what exhaust you get. I’ll let you know how I like the side bag and windy - exhaust backordered til late August.

My bet was always the Guzzi V7 Special, I (and a good chunk of your audience) was right! Hope you have the happiest experiences astride your new Italian steed. I never stopped riding since I bought my first motorcycle 30 years ago. So Darcy, if you allow me to give you, as an older biker, some advice I'll say: enjoy every second with your new bike but learn it well. I mean, she has another weight, another riding position, another levers feel, etc. Everything is different from the the Harley you were used to. So, give yourself time to understand profoundly the behavior (qualities and limitations) of your new motorcycle and use the brake in period to develop new muscle memory before you really rip the roads. Best regards from Brazil. 👍 🛣 🏍

I rode all bikes in my 53 years. Sport, cruiser, naked, touring, supermoto. V7 is a little of all. I recently got mine. Put Agostini exhaust on, brings out true sound of the engine design, which is a cross between a Harley and a muscle car. When I took V7 on twisty roads, was it a sport bike, no, but shockingly it does well in twisties and was fun. On highway, still breaking in bike, easily went 65-70 with a passenger, and bike had alot more, it wasnt even breaking a sweat. Will it be as reliable as japanese bike, probably not, but they seem pretty solid, and with the accessibility to checking valves, one can easily learn to work on the bike themselves and further develop an appreciation of it. Working on your own bike builds a "relationship" with the bike. Only people who do their own oil, plugs, etc.. can understand. The only negative I see is having a newer model special edition, the newer dials are decent but would have prefered analog. Also the fact that despite being able to do most of your own maintenance, once in a while youll have to drag it in to shop so they can turn off wrench signal on dial ,if it bothers you, despite having done maintenance yourself. I dont like computer tech on a bike. Takes away from the natural riding experience. Tech in cars, ok fine, but not in bikes, please. Enjoy the Guzz.

Many congratulations Darcy, exactly as expected; you clearly loved it from the get-go in your review. It’s a long time since I’ve ridden a shaft drive bike, I had a CX500 in the late 70s but as good as it was it lacked the character I’ve come to like in my later life. Indeed I too have taken delivery of a new (to me) bike; a Custom 1974 Norton 850 Commando no less, talk about character or what?😂😂😂 Enjoy your new ride and I look forward to your customising videos.

What a sensational choice! I fell in love at the press of the ignition as well. It knows exactly what it has set out to do. It’s hard to describe, in many ways it converts fuel into smiles with the unintended biproduct being horsepower and torque.
