Glad you like it, I use tennis balls because that’s what we do our comps with and it’s safer, and if you wax the pouch it will slow down the wear from rough stones and help release them smoother, and awesome slinging man keep the videos coming.

If you slow your “helicopter” down to where it’s just fast enough to keep the projectile in the pouch, you’ll have more accuracy, speed and control. The reason is that if you’re whirling it around fast it’s harder to time your power stroke. If you’re going from slow to fast, you can put much more energy into it because you don’t have to try and keep up with the already fast speed from twirling too fast. I hope that made sense.

Sort of like cracking a whip I guess?
@Nick_Gurr80
@Nick_Gurr80 Год назад
@@rbnhd1976 it’s funny you say that because I have been making paracord whips for over 5 years now. It’s very similar and if your sling is a Balearic type with a cracker on the end it Will definitely crack like a whip. I find the most accurate way to use a sling is to do the same number of twirls each time so you’re not having to time it out randomly when you go to swing and release. I typically do two twirls at a medium height with my arm out behind me then the third goes overhead for the power stroke and release. So it’s basically a 1..2..3 count each time. You’ll quickly dial on your shots like that.

Thanks for the tip. I will give this a try..
@Willy-the-Fire-Putter-Outter
@411Outdoors yeah, exactly what this guy said. The only time you need to swing the sling fast is the final swing right before release. Not only does it increase accuracy, it also slows down the, albeit minimal, wear and tear of the sling and saves your muscles from over exerting themselves

For anyone who wants to make the sling you show in your vid, theres a guy on youtube called blind squrril rock chucker and he has a tut on making it i have made that verry same sling, i still have to perfect my brading and weaving as mine is a little wonkey but the pattern is near identical.

I really like that practical paracord slings aren't concerned with being historical recreations but rather with being high performance, durable throwing tools. When I was looking on the internet at different slings to buy there are countless natural fiber shepherd slings on etsy and stuff but they all seemed like gimmicks, not like sports equipment. Then I found channing's channel and was like... wow this guy just loves to drive out into the middle of nowhere, set up some bottles and sling rocks for hours. There isn't any gimmick, the guy just loves chucking rocks.

@hmpeter
@hmpeter Год назад
You might be trapping in the "newer must be better" fallacy, though. Paracord is "good" because it is easily accessible and many people have it anyway. But it is not the best material for slings. The natural fiber "gimmicks" will outperform them when well made in many aspects. Other synthetic materials and/or a combination with natural fibers might be even better.
@tylerbrown9797
@tylerbrown9797 Год назад
@@hmpeter natural fibers may outperform in some respects, perhaps having spring to them may add to the power but in the realm of durability there is no way they even come remotely close to paracord. If you want to make a sling out of natural fibers yourself, cool, it will perform better in some respects until it inevitably falls apart, but if you are in the business of selling slings I think the trade off of the paracord sling lasting indefinitely for customers is extremely important. A natural fiber sling is a temporary thing, not so with a paracord sling.
@hmpeter
@hmpeter Год назад
@@tylerbrown9797 Actually, the elasticity is what makes the paracord perform worse. It lowers the overall efficacy. Also with braided natural fibers, it is easy to give the sling a certain stiffness in the lateral direction. That makes the sling very easy and precise to control. You can get that to a certain degree with the nicer braided paracord slings, but I personally have yet to see one that feels even remotely as nice as a well made natural fiber sling. On the lifetime I agree of course, synthetic fibers will outlast the natural one by far if you do not intend to repair it. But if one chooses synthetic fibers, there are better choices than paracord. Accessory cord (for climbing) comes to mind if it must be cord. Might be an interesting experiment to get a roving spool (the "endless" fiber strand kind) of a nice material like dyneema and weave that into a classic sling form (balearean for example).
@tylerbrown9797
@tylerbrown9797 Год назад
@@hmpeter have you even thrown with a paracord sling? Mine have zero give whatsoever. There is no elasticity with my paracord slings from practical paracord.

Have a look at this. Its one to one ratio; but it shows how making multiple hellicopters; unless your rolling your hand well; loads the string and it untwists and drops your ammo behind you. I practice inside at the curtains. With cut in half cotton buds. And ive found many on the floor sitting right behind me. Just like this video. Its good learning fir me to know others have the same problems. Ive found that flat profiles of strings have less loading and unloading while swinging. Helicoptering give you too many loads of strings; and opportunities to overthink. So i made up my own method; and lo and behold doh! Nooe its the greek method haha

There's nothing like getting better at this type of activity. Especially when I made the sling with my own hands. Why? Because I had to learn how to tie a six strand Matthew Walker knot and I should have given up but after a few days I went back to the unfinished sling and I still didn't get it, but try and try and try and even though I really didn't have to include the knot, I included it in my project and finally I got it. @@blindsquirrelRockChucker I’ve got a pretty open back yard. What do you do to contain the ammo somewhat so you’re not losing it or chasing it across county lines? haha

@@411Outdoors check out one of the last practical paracord online sling comps from this month. U’ll see my 10’x20’ golf net with 1” holes I use as my backstop and target, got it off internet. I wove orange and yellow paracord through the net to make the 4x4 square and bullseye. It’s handled rocks of 200+ grams with no problems.

I just ordered my first. I've made my own up until that point. I lost my right thumb down to the knuckle and had to relearn the release. It's been tough getting accurate again but I practice with stones at the river and I'm gonna start with some rubber hand balls or tennis balls to learn accuracy instead of max power slinging. I have an outfielders arm so it comes pretty naturally to be a slinger. I really like this channel. I just like to give Channing props he's been my favorite singer. You're my favorite multitalented slinger.

If theres any advice i could give you for your internship for youth. Its this. "Teach you children in the way they should go; and in the end they will not depart from "it". Notice it is singular. Not "them". Says "way". Not "ways". "Ways"would be the law; ways to follow. But this says "way ". Yet parents teach children the law ; which paul says strengthens sin. They say "i taught them right and wrong"?? What happened? Yes you did. But did you teach them in the way they should go? The gospel of jesus finished work?? Nope. As homer simpson would say. "DOH!".

That’s exactly right brother excellent word! Behavior modification arouses the sin nature but heart transformation comes from the Gospel🙌
