Just a quick video about my new camera(s) and why I have been missing for a month. @Stockezy www.JasonRomanPhotography.com My Website: jasonromanphoto... My Instagram: www.instagram....
If most Fujifilm users are truely honest with themselves they would swap it for a Leica in a second. Congratulations on the recognition. I use Fuji but I follow you cause of you photos not your camera.
Grant Day I think you’re spot on. Most people would also switch out their perfectly fine modern sportscar for a Porsche 911. And then use it once a week on a Sunday drive 🙈
I totally agree and if I could've afforded a Leica I would have bought one a long time ago but that doesn't mean it doesn't come with some shortcomings. Every tool has it's weaknesses and whenever I'm using one I miss the other. Details coming in a video!
Stockezy that’s exactly the kind of video I’d love to see 😎. I am particularly curious how you tackle the manual focusing, supreme focus ring control or zone focusing... an editing comparison between files of both cameras would also be great.
During my early photography days I always rented a fujifilm x100t when I had the chance. Enjoyed using it more than my Nikon. Now I’m 2 years strong with my M6 and wouldn’t trade it. Even tried the x pro 3 temporarily then sold it.
Hello Jason , I really like your thought process on the Fuji and Leica. I have been shooting Fuji for 7 years owned all of them from all the x100s, XE3, XT 1&2, GFX 50S &R and now xPro3. Love the Fuji but this summer I did purchase a Leica M240 with 35 Summicron a camera I have wanted to experience for a long time. My impressions are the Fuji's are faster, lighter and have better image quality. I do love the Leica because of the process of making a photo is magical. The Leica feels great physically and emotionally. My question is how do you feel about the image quality of Fuji vs Leica?
I actually shot the mp240 for a while and I have to say I loved the film style profile. The M240 was a much slower and chunkier camera than the newer iterations. When I first shot the 240 I didn’t understand the hype but now that I’m shooting the m10... it really blows everything out of the water. It’s lighter, faster and the image quality is stunning. I do agree with you on the magic of making an image with a Leica, especially an M240. You really feel like you’re working for that image. Wether that’s a good thing or a bad thing is up to the user I guess.
I think it's awesome to go with a system you can shoot the same lenses in both film and digital. I went with an M6 for film and an M-P 240, but I think you're missing out on one of the great advantages of a film Leica if you only shoot B&W in your M7. There are some many different color characteristics of the different film stocks especially when you go back and forth between C41 and E6. When I'm shooting my M-P240, I know what to expect every time. It is a consistent color pallet and I will shoot it for a specific purpose, but with color film, I am able to switch things up depending on what I am trying to capture. Shoot Velvia for a sunset or landscape, Ektachrome for outdoor portraits, Cinestill for night low-light cinematic... There is so much color film has to offer.
Congratulations on your collaboration with Leica. You deserve it and I really enjoy your work. I like you have tried to collaborate with fuji but like you I’ve gotten nothing in return and it can be disheartening. Really looking forward to shooting with you one day. Actually have an M10 coming on this Tuesday and can’t wait.
2 things: 1. That intro? 🔥🔥🔥🔥 2. Totally sucks how Fuji deals with the people who genuinely champion their products on here. Congratulations on the nods from Leica though.
Hi Jason, I'm keen to hear your in depth and always honest thoughts on the Fujifilm xpro 2 and x100f in comparison to the famed Leica shooting experience and image quality to your eyes. I shoot Fujifilm, but always keen to hear the thoughts of those who have used both Fujifilm and Leica.
Talk about both Leicas! Brand has always fascinated me. Love to hear your impressions of images compared to Fuji. I’m a Nikon user but always open to the new and others experience
Interested in seeing both. Just picked up an M6 and sent off my first couple roll of films. Also shoot Fuji and Sony, but Leica might have infected me.
Hi Jason - welcome to the Leica family! I am sure you will have lots of fun with the M's. Looking forward to see your upcoming videos - the M10 is amazing, maybe a bit to much of perfection... I am missing the soul which the M9 had...
I am scared I am going to feel too connected to the M10. I don't want to think about having to buy one. I guess when they take it back I'll go back to the Xpro3. Feels good to be in the family though.
@@Stockezy LOL my friend, once a Leica - its hard to go back :)... These are my experiences... But you will always have your M7. I am going through my portfolio of the last 15 years and I can see the quality of my compositions is much better when I am shooting with a Rangefinder... I guess the workflow suits to me more, than the quick point and shoot with AF. We'll see if the M10 will become a new family member with u in the future ;)
I’d like to see a video on what really differentiates Leica from Fuji. Is it the brand heritage or luster that inspires, is it the quality of the files and/or lenses,
its the operating of the camera. one feels like an american muscle car the other feels like a toyota prius. the prius will be a smoother and less bumpy ride but there is something about the rattling and aggressive feeling of driving an american muscle. you can romanticise its flaws. the later is the leica. the camera for someone who has shot everything and wants a different experience.
@@maxfairclough3600 Last week, I did a Leica M workshop, where the participants could use an M10-P during a 2-hour city walk. It wasn't long, but it gave me a good first impression. The build quality is indeed unparalleled, it's built to last. Operating it (especially focusing in portrait mode) was a challenge and will require hours of practice. The rangefinder experience is indeed something different and you need to be motivated to overcome the learning curve.
LOL you got red pill'd! Actually red dotted I should say. love the vids and I too shoot Fuji-xpro 2 and x100F but my lover is my M6 with the 35 cron. We have been together for 29 years and the relationship is still solid although i no longer have a darkroom so i hear ya on the workflow and i hate souping film in the kitchen and scanning film. Why didn't save for the M9? I wanted Leica to mature the M to where I felt it needed to be for me. We are here in the 10. I am half way in savings to the M10P or D and the day I get there, the fuji's will be what my daughter learns with. My dad gave me my first real camera (Canon AE1) so fitting. Super excited to see the content to come.
I’d be interested in the M7 impressions video along with what film emulsions you use and how you process the film stock 👌🏽 I don’t blame you for making big moves man, you do what you gotta do and I’m still a supporter!
Maaannnn, so happy for you! I'm just happy to see what you come up with and would love to hear your take on shooting Leica vs Fuji when it comes to the feel and overall shooting experience. I left film back in high school and shoot strictly digital, so the M10 would be my choice. I'm so proud of you for your accomplishments and all your efforts , glad to FINALLY have more of your content, lol. Peace!
I can always count on you to have my back brother! Feels good to be back and hopefully I can get into making more content that's artistically inspiring and less gear oriented.
Congratulations!!!! Honest video. Well done!! Hi, I own a Fuji X-T2 and I'm proud of it. It's a great camera. I like film photography too and I own some very nice film cameras, but the camera I´d love to own most is a Leica M6 or M7 for shooting B&W film so I can understand you very well. Anyway I´ve learned about photography that a good photographer takes good photographs with any camera. I think that is true. To be honest, I should say that, anyway, I'd love to shoot a Leica M. Thanks for your sincere opinion. About your photographs they're simply stunning!! I like your eye!!! Nice job!!! Liked and subscribed of course!!
Damn, Fuji did you kinda dirty. Awesome photos as always, but that M7 shot of the guy running is so cool for some reason. Anyway, I'd like to hear an in-depth opinion on the M10... and then the M7 too
Great video, I would prefer the M7, as this is definitely affordable with very good Voigtländer lenses. Using this as a BW film camera is a great idea.
Haha sweet video bro. I am one of those people you convinced to get fuji and tbh glad you did loving it so far and do not regret it. Although I won't be moving to another camera for a very long time I am still learning how to use my T3 and agree with you 100 percent that a review should be after you had camera for x amount of time. In terms of fuji not recognizing you work (which is amazing) I feel that so many more people have Fuji and can afford which even if Fuji wanted to acknowledge them it wouldn't be easy. The email was bs though. Sorry missed you speech is it in video ?
I have a question: shall i upgrade to the M10 from the M6 as i don't use it, il feel more inclined on using the M10 on a daily basis due to being more versatile because its digital. What are your thoughts?
I was gonna try and catch your talk when I saw it on the program at Photoville. But ended up not making it. I’m sure it was good! Yeah...Leica seem really generous. I went and did their equipment loan and was able to tote around with the little Q2 which was dope! But Fujifilm can be generous as well from what I’ve known of them. But yeah I’ve heard lately that they target brand ambassadors who only shoot Fujifilm which I can understand but I can also see as being frustrating especially since you’ve influenced so many people towards Fuji. Thanks for the video update. Looking forward to your upcoming videos!
Stockezy, it’s better to stay focused on your vision of photography and let the camera be a means to an end. I have the X-T1, 2, and 3. They are fun cameras to use daily. However, when you are trying to grow a business, you need some support from the brands that you’re helping to promote. Fujifilm wants loyalty but are they doing the same thing in return? Do what’s best for you.🖖🏾
I always have to remind myself of this, it's easy to get caught up with brands and gear when trying to grow a RU-vid channel. But I'm learning the artistic approach is better. Thanks for watching brother!
I typed already TRAITOR, LEICA SNOB, I HATE YOU ,UNSUBBED!!!!!! but after your explanation it all makes sense. It's not the first time that I heard that Fuji is being a d*ck to the actual users of their products in such a way. With that being said: CONGRATS on the collab with Leica. I'd love to see the M10 in detail, maybe also compared to a Fuji camera. On another note, it's kinda funny to see that a lot of Fuji users switch up to Leica. They don't switch to Sony, Canon, Nikon or Panasonic too often, no... Leica is the next best thing to a Fuji and with that said, Fuji must be doing at least something right with their products :) I love my X100S and XH1 very much. Happy shooting.
Haha! I appreciate your honesty. I think Fuji made a brilliant choice by mimicking Leica's design language and releasing f2 primes that are light and compact. They are the only two brands that have cultivated such love over their products. If you see anyone with a Sony, Canon or Nikon they never acknowledge each other. Leica and Fuji shooters always give each other the "Nod".
No offense taken and I stated pretty clearly in the video that I didn’t feel like I deserved anything just because I purchase their gear and rep it. With that said, there is a stronger demand for micro-influencers these days. It’s a more focused and honest opinion than the RU-vidrs with massive followings selling us anything that they can get a check for. On the other hand Leica has noticed my efforts and reached out and that’s what made me want to contact Fuji. Again, I didn’t expect anything from them just a response that was better then what they churned out. I’m just shooting my shot. I think I have potential and I was hoping they’d see that. Sadly they’d rather rep NY photographers like Omar Robles...
I've BEEN waiting for this video! Good to see you back brother. Fujifilm's loss for not locking you up, but I am glad to hear they haven't completely pushed you away. We got an X-Pro3 to talk about! Hahaha. I want to see you talk about both these cameras, but if I had to pick one, it'd be the M7. Talk about the process, how this stands out for film photography, what you like about it, what you don't like, etc. All the best brother! Looking forward to all the new stuff!
This is a clear example of the importance of taking care of your community! If you don’t treat the people that encourage us using fuji well, he’ll switch to leica... in the end, every photographer that gets an xpro camera is because they want a Leica, but can’t afford it anyways!!
So you own 2 leica's, but still shoot exclusively on fuji... If I'm a fuji rep thats literally the best promotion I could ever ask for! Very strange response from them. Great video Stock, been missing them!
Haha I'm going to keep using the medium format beast for all my studio work. There will definitely be an Xpro3 video coming as well. Did you see what they did to the screen?! Thanks for watching and the support brother!
No need to be validated by the manufacturer of the camera you shoot! Be validated by the image you take! This is the problem with you guys! And social media! Stop crying and keep shooting validation is left to a higher source.
Phew! So glad I didn’t take your advice. All my crying has gotten me so far in life. I’ve done more crying than shooting actually and it turns out it’s way more productive. You should cry more and shoot less! Your photo career is bound to take off!
I shoot b&w film with Leica M6 and I shoot digital color with Leica M10. My M-mount lens kit consists of Zeiss 35mm f/1.4 Distagon, 90mm f/2 Summicron, and 21mm f/1.4 Summilux. Before the M10, I shot with Fuji X-Pro1 and X-Pro2 digital mirrorless cameras. My Fuji lens kit consisted of 56mm f/1.2, 23mm f/1.4, and 16mm f/1.4 Fujinon lenses. I will have to look through your video archives to see what you did with your two Leica rangefinders.
There are thousands of photographers and many of them are willing to promote nothing but Fuji, so of course Fuji is going to pick those people over the ones that basically say "this brand is equally as good as Fuji". As long as there's photographers willing to say Fuji is better than Leica you're out of luck haha.
Yep, Leica is a great camera company. But for us reasonable people without limitless budget that kind of money means a brand new GFX100 for example. Or say almost 10 x Fuji X-H1 camera bodies. Or a new car. Simply put too much money for a camera which I can't use for work...
1. Why would anyone hate you? Use whatever tools you want to make your images. Brand loyalists are weird. 2. I'm more interested in the M7 than the M10, but that has more to do with my perception that film enthusiasts aren't constantly shitting on each other's gear. There's revelry and reverence for the entire price spectrum because, at the end of the day, the same rolls of film run through my $100 Canonet 17 as your $2,000+ M7.
Hello, i am using a M7 and a M240. M7 with summicron 90 for portrait in black and white, and M240 with summicron 35 in color (. instagram.com/p/CDzeYjuHAVG/?igshid=15lsfcveirj8f ). With Leica cameras, please take a photography biais, the 50 mm has no interest to me , either get far or close to your subject... so please keep the two cameras in your bag all the time, because your combo is magic.
Good for you! Leica and Hasselblad support artists. Using your film body for black and white is smart. Using a digital body, with variable ISO and color temperature, makes total sense. Remember, it's about the craftsman, not his tools.
Zero hate here. I shoot Fuji, but don't we all lust after some Leica? Congratz on the recognition and keep it up. Really digging the overall vibe of the channel and the work you put out. Definitely more interested in the M7 B&W and development process.
I followed you because of fuji, but just because your now on Leica doesn’t take away from the things I learn from your videos! Camera is camera at the end of the day but I take more away from your style and how you give out tips! Also I’m more interested in the M10
A close friend of mine just dumped all his Nikon gear to acquire a used M10 (no glass yet) and I'm very envious. What an absolutely stunning move on Leica's part to reach out to the new generation! Leica's reputation has been sown for decades and the digital revolution has created an upheaval without match, leaving your generation to embrace faster more cost effective solutions. As each mfg struggles to find stance in the new cell phone marketplace, if Leica has made corporate decision to introduce your generation to the quality that is Leica, I find it refreshing and genius.
I am lucky and honored to be a part of this new wave. They have shown me an incredible amount of support and encouragement over the last year. I’ll be giving my second talk for them next month at B&H and I’m feeling rather blessed to be in this position as a relatively unknown RU-vidr and photographer.
First time on your channel. I really liked it and your style man! I too was a Fuji shooter till I got a Q a couple of months ago. No turning back. Can’t wait to see what you do with the M10 and you won’t give it back!
I wish you put more films. It is so hard to watch nice youtube movies with good music those days! I don't mean that you don't got good content not at all! :) But music is what makes you intersting more :)
Welcome to the Leica film family! It’s such a blast to shoot with these mechanical marvels and film is a fun adventure. Every time I shoot another roll I can see myself learning and adapting it’s been a huge help in creating more consistent work
You mean 28 Elmarit, not Summarit. As far as I know, there aint no 28mm Summarit. I have exact same lenses in my setup: M2 + M6 + M-P. You have great vision, I like your photos.
Stockezy, love your style Brother. Please speak more to your impressions of the Leica M7. Thank you. Continued happiness and success to you and yours. Chaps
I screamed NOOOOO when I saw the title... I switched from canon to the x pro 2 a month ago because of you🤗...your work is BOMB no matter the tool! You definitely inspired me to get back into shooting more THANK YOU!!!
And thank YOU for encouraging me to make more content! And you really can't go wrong with a Fuji. If it wasn't for Leica, there's no other camera that I would be shooting.
I agree with you that Fuji believe you're followers would get confused. Most Fuji, especially XPro shooter's would shoot Leica if they could, or they shot both. I own a M3 and XT2 currently, previously M3, M8 and X100, but with kids you need a different type of camera then a M for some important elements of shooting your kids, video, tele etc and Fuji especially XPro is the obvious choice. BUT hey you got to play with/own 2 x Leica and that 50 you flashed is no ordinary Summicron but their throw the design kitchen sink model (not sure you kept that one or returned it). Also I want you to know your not alone, Big Head Taco, well known Fuji shooter, was unable to be a X Photographer for the same reason. He reviews other cameras, including Leica. He and other outlyers contribute to Fuji Love. reach out to them or Take Kayo directly, I'm sure they'ed love you to contribute. To be fair to Fuji (but they gave the wrong response). Social media has dumped on Fuji X Photographers caught using other cameras, like hey guess what I saw, that guy/girl who promotes Fuji, on Holiday I saw them using a Canon. Liking your shots.
Maaan... it always fascinates me that you are not in hundreds of thousands subscribers... another pro quality video ... i originally find your channel as a new fuji user .. and currently going back to analogue photography and looking for leica .. probably a little older like m3 or m2 or maybe even old iiif ... anyway... long story short... keep on going .. ! :) ...... and also happy birthday from Slovakia !!
Thanks for the kind words and the birthday wishes!! I appreciate you brother and I am definitely banging out more content in the next month. Hopefully you'll enjoy what's coming! HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!! 🙏🏾🙏🏾
I think your film photography process vid would be cool. But also comparison of shooting street manual on m10 vs with autofocus on xpro2 would be interesting. I wished fuji would make a manual lens without focus by wire. I do adapt vintage stuff, but something native would be nice.
I totally agree and I would image those types of lenses are on the timeline. At some point, they will have to refresh the f2 primes and the natural evolution will probably be hard stops for focusing.
I have loved Fuji for years, starting with XPro-1, but about a year ago I picked up an MP and an M10 and have barely picked up my Fujis, four of them, since then. I should seriously sell the Fujis, they just collect dust. They are good for travel though if you need long lenses.
Great video. Like you say all we want is a little validation and that's all. I own an M10 chrome and that cam is always with me. I also shoot with an Mp and sadly I sold my Leica M7 a few years ago.....why I don't know :) I would like to see more film Leica M7 POV !!! Cheers man. Feel free to check my IG @imamontrealer
Massive congratulations on the talk! Crazy to see how quick you’ve come up since the first videos, but clearly very well-deserved. Also...any chance on getting that Leica rep’s number?
My M7 shoots most often negative and slide color films due to its more sensitive light meter (especially for slide film where exposure is critical). For B&W films, I stick to my other M-cameras or - what I really love for it - the Leica IIIc. I am using several brands of photo gear, but I still didn't go the Leica digital route since I am not supported by a brand and for other technical reasons like sensor performance etc. Leica remains 35 mm film for me.
There was a Canadian photographer who was a Fujifilm ambassador. He used Fuji cameras, but when he wanted to use other brands they weren’t happy. He left because he felt he was being caged. I use Fujifilm cameras but I also shoot Sony A6300 cameras, oh and Canon DSLRs . I shoot with what suits me for the job I need to do. I’m glad Leica supports you. If I could afford a Leica I’d shoot that too.
I'm mad, just kidding. Looking to upgrade my M240 to a Leica M10 or M10-P. The M240's great but I often need a little more in the ISO department for some of the events I have to shoot where I can't use flash. So, I'm interested in your take on the M10.I also am looking for an M7 as I'm a total Aperture Priority shooter and I want a film Leica. Congrats on your new cameras, especially the loaner.
Glad to see you back Stockezy! Very cool video and the images are so on point! Would love to see you do street videos focusing on both cameras. Just like someone else mentioned, I think all of us Fuji users would love a Leica! That is my ultimate dream camera but with a wife and other responsibilities, travel plans, other passions/hobbies, I just can’t justify that six thousand plus dollars on one camera. lol.. However, I do love my Fujifilm cameras. They fuel my creative passion for photography but let’s be honest, those Leicas are so dope! Congrats on all of it! Wish I could’ve seen the talk. Was it recorded? Keep it coming! ✌🏾
Hi. Jose from Puerto Rico. Congrats on your talk and new Leica. Would love to see more on the M10 when ever you get the chance to post. I'd love to own a Leica M10-p but its out of my budget. Anyhow glad to have subscribed to your channel just today. Wonderful shots there at the end man!
I hear Fuji cameras are really nice and work really well, but I also hear their service and customer service isn't the best. I'm assuming that same oversight carries over to their creative/advertising/promotional Depts. I enjoy your work and I'm happy to see your getting more recognition for your art.
Glad to see you back. I recently switched from Fuji to Leica (M3 DS, Q-P and 240 M-P). I'm a concert shooter and this set up works great for me. I'll likely be upgrading to the M10 very soon as well. I think you made a great decision and looking forward to seeing what you do with the Leica system!
Love this video! I'm a total fuji fanboy ever since the XT1 through to XT3. Would you choose the M10 over something like the Q2? I'd only see the 35mm on the m10 if i bought one - what are your thoughts? Keep up the videos dude, massive fan!
About 40 years ago, I walked into a camera store along with my boss. We both shot Nikon. While I was looking around I spied a Leica and asked to see it. The salesman pulled out a red velvet cloth and placed the M4 on it and told me to play with it. He then walked away. There was something magical about the camera. It felt like it belonged in my hands. No I never could afford one, but the Fuji Pro 2, comes close.
