I installed a milk crate on the rear storage area, i live rural and town is beyond walking distance but not worth gas in a car. I can fit more groceries than you think back there and youd be surprised how useful a backpack is when biking, ive put 300 miles on it, besides a derailer adjustment and brake tuning (normal bike stuff) its one great way to get around. It takes a couple hours to charge but the amount of power it requires to charge is pennies on the dollar compared to gas
