Making a strip of shingles instead of individual ones would save a little time. Cut the strips the other way after texturing, and then cut the shingles only part way though the strip. Gluing them on becomes much easier.

I read the comments to see if someone would say this. I've seen it done that way to save a lot of time. She cut them in strips then cut off a little here and there so the shingles were not evenly cut at the ends. Looked great, too. Saved a lot of time.

This is the way I do it and it takes a fraction of the time that individual shingles do.

This is the way it’s been done in the war gaming community for years. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LDxQM7al1zg.html

Agreed, I would also put the first coat of base color on while they were flat and whole.

I love that you're finally finishing this piece. Having it sit on the shelf behind you has amused me for many a video.

Awesome…fYI if you can get hold of a paper Guillotine it works really well for multiple card cutting…I use it for my egg carton paving…

That's looking great! For some reason I don't mind gluing shingles nearly as much as I hate doing bricks.

I've seen this building in the background of several earlier videos and always wondered why it was left unfinished. Stoked to see it get closer to completion and I look forward to future videos of it. The shingles look awesome and the paper plate method isn't something I've seen around before. It was surprising to me how well they took the texture. Great video, and keep it up!

I use carry out foam food containers for thin foam. Works great. Especially if you can find black ones. Nice work man

Very new to terrain and after looking at your was thinking what do I have laying around that would be thick enough but not to thick like foam core. Well I’m throwing some together with card stock 😂 we’ll see how they work 😊

I decided to try this method but didn't have any paper plates on hand. However I did have styrofoam plates, so I tried that, works great!

I keep thinking about buying a cricut to do this sort of thing

Just two time-saver tricks: 1. Brush the side you won't engrave with a quick coat of dilluted paint. Nothing to make a visual later, just enough pigment so you'll see which side is the one you want without having to look at the grain. 2. Cutlery steel is softer than tool steel, so you can narrow down the tips of a dollar store fork with a file, just be sure to "kiss" the tips later with that file to slightly round them off so you won't accidentally stab your fingers next time you grab the fork drom your tool drawer.

Have you ever tried a cricut cutter? you can cut an 81/2 x11 sheet at a time.

I do this exact process, except that I use card stock (THIN cardboard, from the backs of notepads) rather than styro, or paper plates. . I usually watch documentaries while putting the fucking shingles on. :) Sometimes I watch other crafters on here and on Twitch. Looking great BTW!!

You called your channel small and I was like "its not that small is it?" Your production quality is so good that I would have pegged you for much much larger than you actually are. Either way I have been watching your videos for a week now and really enjoyed all of them. I have subscribed and am wishing you the best with your channel. Channels like yours give me so much inspiration!

I haven't tried the brush method for shingles. I roll my strips up get my texture. Looks like I'm raiding the paper plates later.

I wonder if the texturing would pop if you did a light water or alcohol spray after texturing.

Having the wood beneath the layer of shingles is a great idea for allowing you to make a building whose roof is in disrepair. However, I do question its use on your particular build. That structure looks far too nice with regard to its stonework, trim, etc. to have a roof in such bad shape. If your intention is to create a dilapidated building, you might want to go back to your other details and tweak them to evoke that aesthetic. Certainly your paint job will also need to match that narrative as well.
