Why locking tuners when you can lock the strings ontop of the neck, like most (super strat) Floyd guitars???

Ive been watching this channel for a white, but I subbed because of the useful info on the Floyd knife edges. I always wondered if those black corners were a tougher metal to sustain the tension, and you confirmed it. Love this channel, cheers!

Ordered this one and the FFMN-Striped when they dropped at 2am (CST)

My white one arrived about an hour and a half ago. GREAT GUITAR FOR THE PRICE!!! $179 + SHIPPING!!! I ordered it last Friday, got shipped Tuesday, arrived today this Friday. No surprises. Initially I was hesitant to buy from Guitar Gardens via the use of PayPal. Things turned out alright and the process was smooth enough. On my doorstop it was apx 11 lbs. It was contained in a tough cardboard box, but inside mounted by a very protective molded Styrofoam "shell". So no worries there, though when I first saw it I thought they might want to have packaged it better. Turns out they did a great job packing it after all! The opening box experience was quite nice with no surprises. The guitar was beautiful. The peripherals (whammy bar, allen wrenches, truss rod adjuster poll and guitar cable) where all in a neat plastic baggy. The guitar inside the Styrofoam shell was wrapped in white padding. The first thing I noticed was the wonderful fret work! The review was spot on about that! Stainless steel with rounded ends!!! Wow!!! The paint job, all white and pro to me. The parts all nice and shiny. The Floyd Rose though... For $179 your gonna have to do some work to intonate good and set the action right. I can't think of a better or more rewarding guitar to actually learn how to set up a Floy Rose! You screw this up your only out $179! You get it right and wow!! Mind you I'm a bit fussy when it comes to setting guitars. It was fine enough just tuning it up and doing a sound check and playing some chords. Your gonna wanna put some nice new strings (I prefer Ernie Ball Cobalts, and then the Elixir's myself). Don't do serious work on the guitar with the strings provided, their probably gonna be old and not "special". Also, your gonna want to put 10W-D 40 on the moving tuners and other moving parts, they will be sticky. Took some finessing to get the whammy bar snug. I was able to immediately lower the action to under 2mm no prob. The neck relief, out of the box was okay! Now I'm gonna have to put in some work, but I think I can get a set of 8's with an action of 1.6 mm on this puppy... And enjoy.... Been wanting a guitar like this for years! Simple 1 humbucker pickup with a roasted maple neck and a floyd rose. EVH sells em for $1100? I got mine for 200 and change! I'm not sure the EVH ones are roasted maple necks either. (The roasted maple on the firefly is awefully dark... I don't think it's stain though?) Now to go to Guitar center and get a new amp...

Cheap guitars that try to pass themselves off as the real thing? Hell no. Cheap guitars that are tributes to the original but put their own spin on it? Great stuff. Good to see we have someone champions the latter while rejecting the former. Thank you Max.

A trick that can give the tremendous arm is to find a spring that can be cut down to a workable size and insert it into the trem hole. I sort through some of my non working pens to select a spring for what works best to stablize the arm and place the the arm where I want it. I had an experience before on a trem arm sticking to upward only to find out that arm was for a left handed guitar ... so I stopped by my brick and mortar store and they were kind enough to swap it out at no charge. Cool right ¡¤¡

I just bought a guitar from them, and I didn't see this guitar on the site, or I would've got it! I got the white super strat with two humbuckers and the "Floyd Rose" bridge. basically it's the same as the one you have here, except I've got a neck pickup. I'm glad you're reviewing this , so I know what to expect.

Less than an hour after I watched this video they were sold out of both this and the Wolfgang striped cone. Although initially the black SG with cross inlays ( shades of Tony Iommi) said it was sold out, it was relisted a few hours later. I jumped on it for $209, I think? I have been wanting to try Firefly for a while, but was frustrated by lack of products and waiting what seemed like forever for a restock... well, I guess it is "After Forever" haha! I would have liked lightning bolt inlays even more ( Angus Young) but beggars and choosers! Got my guitar yesterday ( about 1 week) and love it! Smooth! I haven't checked the intonation, but nothing sounds out of kilter in the upper register. The action is almost too low after tuning it up, and the high E slips a little. In reality I'll probably slap some locking tuners on it at some point. My only other criticism is it's a little TOO "Gibson" in that they put the jack on the front. Looking at the Harley Benton's they took the initiative to make the version with the jack on the side which is far better to me. The only reason I didn't grab that is I am not crazy about the red color, and almost $100 more for a black version with a mint pickguard I hate... meh. I own several HBs and like them, though but really wanted to see what the Firefly was all about... But so far, so good, and I am looking harder at the blueberry Pauls, SG, and Wolfgang knockoff.

I'm not into guitars that are signatures, but if it's made and plays well, it would be worth getting it and sanding it all down and repaint it. But I did just see one for cheaper and pretty much the same guitar in white they have. I wish guitars were made this well and this cheap when I was coming up.

They just popped up today a Les Paul buckethead edition baritone. I just ordered that !!

Ibanez "Edge" trem has been doing that knife-edge design since the late 80's. That's why they stay in tune better than the FR trem. I don't understand why you would need locking tuners with a double-locking trem. The idea of the double lock is, if you break a string near the bridge, you can un-wind the wrapped string and lock it down again in the bridge instead of replacing the string. Other than that, this looks like a good guitar to have, for the price. Love the headstock shape, BTW.

Update on my guitar from 11 days ago. Finally got around to changing the strings and finishing all the setup details. Managed to get the Low E string down to an action of about 1.8mm. Managed to intonate it and put a set of 8's on it. Had to switch out the trem spring config from 2 V 1 straight to 3 straight. Found out the nut is a little to high. Have to do it myself or pay a Luther $100 plus to fix it. Lowered the pickup height. Sounds good. Forgot how much a pain it is to set up a Floyd Rose. Took me about 3 1/2 hours to do everything from the new strings after about an hour futsin with the thing when I got it with their strings. So... Wish for lower nut height. Wish for more bend back head room on the float. Had to loosen the truss rod about 1 full turn and an 1/8 to go from a set of 10's to the 8's. Wish I could set the action a little lower. Wait it out and see the settling in a week or 2. For appx $200 it was a good deal. I'm goin to throw another $150 at it. Get a new whammy bar and locking mech for the whammy. Gonna get a trem stabilizer and install it on the middle spring. Gonna investigate loweering the nut via Guitar center. (My grand dad was a master carpenter, I am not...) If the Luther says he can't do it, I'll probably just leave it as is. Or... I could spend $1300 and hope the EVH with the compund radius isn't wonky in the neck; and it's not gonna have those awesome firefly stainless steel round end frets... Any questions let me know. Just playin and minor details left... Gonna get a new NUX Mighty Space amp tomorrow... I don't think I'll be able to lower the action any because the neck is just slightly hoaky... The last fret isn't the farthest from the stirngs the lower the action gets. Kind of dips every so slightly and levels out in the back end of the neck. Most people wouldn't notice or care. But I like to squeeze every bit of action I can... My Brain May Red special is 1.5mm and my Squire Contemporary is about 1.6mm. The Red Special and the Squire both have a 24 inch scale length. Put 8's on the Squier and will probably keep 9's on the Red Special, cause it came so well set up. Brian May's guitar is awesome with all of it's well thought details when it was made 50 years ago. I personally wouldn't have used so many pickups and hoaky pickup configurations. But it works. I like only one pickup and to let the strings breath without a strong magnetic field messin with the bass. A 2 to 20 hz warble isn't squat at 2K Hz. At 80Hz though... It's noticeable and messes with the ability to lower the action and for chords to Gel... Why active pickups "aound better"... FYI the pickup height was about 2mm maybe a little less from the strings when I got it. I put it down to 4.5 mm. That damn magnetic field on the humbucker has juice!!! Put a screw driver near it and feel "the pull"... Even at the lower level there is still so much juice!!! I'll keep the volume knob down a quarter turn or so... Metal head tone deaf idiots should be in love though... It's always funny watching a really good metal head guitarist play a horribly set up guitar so well, and stilll sound like pooh.... But compensate a bit for it with their chops... Eddie's secret sauce.. I believe he made his own pickups...

I'd love to see a RU-vidr play straight through an Amp with a pedal or two, old school instead of a heavy saturated effects processor that can make a crap guitar and them self sound good... Besides that I still like the channel and you know people will get unhinged because it's a copy, get ready for the hate!

Firefly knocks it out of the park with their guitars. I have 2 of them, a FFVX trans black flamed maple top I bought about 2 years ago and I just got the new Bass-Guitar trans red double neck 4/6 that looks very similar to the Gibson EBS 1250. Never playing a double neck before it amazes me on the sympathetic strangeness it has with the 2 bass and 2 guitar pickups sharing the one output, the trick is to roll back on the volume control for both to find the sweet spot, otherwise it is too hot or cold, loud or soft. I think it is supposed to go through a normal guitar amp, but I'm using a Y cable splitter to go to a bass amp and the other through a processor to another amp with a 2 input looper to separate the clean from the dirty sort of...but kind of not? IT IS THE MOST CRAZY FUN THING I HAVE EVER PLAYED AND LOVE IT MORE EVERYDAY AND WOULDN'T CHANGE A THING after embracing - THE WEIRDNESS! Btw the new Jimmy Page Gibson 12 /6 was just released for somewhere around $50k If I wasn't mistaken... Um, really? No thanks Gibson, but good luck. :>o :>O :>)

Eddie always set his bar to swing like that . He liked that looseness, and you can see it in all of the old footage of him with his Kramer. It's not my preference, but it's very cool that Firefly noticed that detail.

For anyone on this channel that has not been down the FR knife edge road it is a very common issue. Cheap alloys can not hold up and the posts will score and pit. Some are ruined during setup turning the posts while under tension. Game over. Even the genuine FR Specials are not up to abuse! If all else fails deck the trem and rock on.

I purchased on of their FFSP guitars last year just to play with. The build and finish is actually far better than I expected. Where it falls short, in my opinion, are the pickups. They're really low output and just sound terrible. I'll eventually put a hot pickup in it because that's the only way this thing will ever sound great.

Got mine in yesterday. A few things I wanted to mention to anyone else looking to pick it up: - The guitar I received didn't have the painted headstock or "relicing" like in the video. A little bummed but still looks great! - Neck feels REALLY good IMO. I'm not sure what it is, it just feels nice and I'm hitting some licks a bit easier than some of my other guitars. - I was very surprised by the quality at the price point. I think they made a few sacrifices, but overall it's worth the price. Especially if you're a Van Halen fan. *Back to practicing ✌

Get a tiny rubber O-ring from Harbor Freight to put under the collar then put the handle in a vise to bend it down, nearly free upgrade to the Trem.

A quick hack for the Tremelo bar wiggling around in that socket. I’m sure many of you know, but many may not know is to use plumbers tape around the threads of the bar before screwing it in in some cases like on vintage tremolos. It also prevents the bar from swinging around like that, but in this instance, I don’t think that’s going to help.

The bridge reminds me of what Schaller calls their "Schaller Tremolo" which has the replaceable knife edges and thicker string lock screws

the issue you're having isn't because the clamps are twisting, more that the strings are not flat against the base of the nut ,on the head stock side, a string retainer will fix that problem, so you won't have to settle for being kinda' in tune

I checked the guitar gardens website really early this morning. I check it all the time because they just unload them for sale at the weirdest times. Last night was a treasure Trove of incredible guitars and almost all of the new guitars that were listed yesterday or last night have roasted Maple neck with flame! I saw some of these flaming necks and they are incredible! Of course I had to purchase one even though I don't need another one.🤘

You forgot Compound Radius neck and this Floyd is actually a big upgrade over the standard knock-offs on most Chinese guitars in that this is the Korean version. These are really good for the cash. One of the best buys at $80-$100 bucks!

Years ago, I bought one made by a Chinese company on eBay UK. It has a Kramer "banana" headstock, and the stripes are white on top of black instead of black on top of white. It isn't reliced. At the same time, I was offered a George Lynch "Tiger Stripes" guitar based on the same Kramer model. However, I didn't buy it due to the expense of getting both. Nice guitar, though. I later found out that both guitars were pulled from eBay UK and I've never seen the seller trading again.

Even AllParts Floyd Rose tremolo bars are $40 nowadays. I always opt for the Floyd Rose brand Push-In Arms, which ARE only about $20 depending on the finish.

Wild how quickly some of their models sell out! Checked them out before lunch- low stock. Checked after lunch bunch stuff including these. Answered some emails and sold out !

I saw a recent video of him actually playing slower and it sounded pretty good The guy is a master guitarist. But back to your Firefly EVH! You could put that bar in a vise and bend it I've done that. Also for the looseness on the collar you can take some plumbers tape like you would use for your shower head or to wrap threads for a watertight seal That works really well to. Although you will have to replace it maybe once a year. But I think for 300 bucks that's a great deal I don't really like top mounted Floyd roses but for the money and for what you get it's fine! I really like the headstock the locking tuners and the back of the guitar I actually like the guitar a lot for the money It's pretty kick ass!!!!💯 Okay Max great video I like when you go a little longer most of your videos are a little bit short but this one was fabulous!!!!! That vibrato arm: I've had at least three of those over the years. I wound up getting mine aftermarket online. This is the first time I've seen one in with a guitar, though.

I’d seen they had this same finish on an MN body style with the 4x2 tuner config, floyd style bridge, dual humbuckers. Must have sold out super quick

Firefly is sick , i don't know how they can continue to offer so much for more than reasonable prices. They're seriously giving the big boys a run for the money. I had the SG and it was phenomenal but I sold it to get money to buy the new Schecter Sunset!

I like it, im a guitar beginner on a low budget and your reviews have given me confidence in getting a budget brand guitar. However I have discovered I really like flying v's and am hoping firefly does another v like the blue one you reviewed, I like their '58 styled one ive seen another reviewer show too. Would love to see a comparison video from you of the firefly v compared to hardluck kings flying v.

You barely see rear routed stratocaster guitars so this is a huge win, wish they did a tele as well

Great review as ever 🙂 about the whammy bar, it's something I've often noticed on whammy bars coming from China or other parts of Asia : It looks like they always are 1 mile above the strings 😄😄 So I have designed a little jig where I put the bar in ( the part that goes into the tremolo ) and bend it with my hands...It works really well...

I just got a firefly double neck sg style. The 6 string pickups are totally microphonic and feedback bad with distortion. Getting it tuned isnt as bad as always having to tune it nack up. It needs tuners, pickups and a set up job because my luthier skills are lacking. Definitely a decent quality guit. Minè just has a few issues. My Squier 50s vibe Strat has issues that need fret work. Ive been adopting mutts lately. The 6 string necks frets on the high E side have some sprout or are sticking up enough for the high E string gets stuck on the side of the neck if your not careful.

I’ve seen bridges like that before…I’m not 100% sure, but I think the knife edges can be replaced if they get dull👍

I love all things EVH. This is obviously not a direct copy of the Frankenstrat, but pretty close to Eddie's Kramer 5150 he used after that, other than the headstock, etc. Cool regardless.

there should be another allen bolt on the bottom of the cavity that the trem arm sits in, it puts tention on that arm to keep it from moving;, also , that looks like the good schaller floyds that were on the charvels' and jacksons back long ago ,the base plates weren't crap metal, schaller was just smart to make the knife edges replacable, neither my charvel nor the jackson i have with those trems on them have ever given me a problem, i would take a schaller version over any floyd built bar any day

Schaler has similar construction in their more affordable trems. Replaceable knife edges of hardened steel.

I have been watching this channel for awhile & really like Max’s Sig HB. I would have one but they are out of stock for 8-10 weeks & then this EVH thing….i would have one ordered but sold out….lol. I have had some wonderful guitars & right now not so wonderful…lol. These guitars though are unreal for what you get. I did see that Bubble burst FFST & it’s a possibility.😊
