The evolution of workshop air cleaners - Mobile to get close to the dust, floor standing to pull the dust down, and a charcoal filter to filter fumes too! 🤯 In this video, I introduce you to the Axiom Stratus air filter, unbox it, show off the features, and show how I plan to use it in my shop. Big thank you to Todd and the folks at Axiom Tool Group for teaming up with me and sending me a Stratus to share with you in this video and to use in my shop.

Had not seen this before. It definitely might have a place in my woodturning shop. I have a ceiling mount filter in the woodshop, but the floor mount of the Axiom has some real advantages in my turning shop. Am definitely going to check it out.

Thanks for letting me know Richard. I wasn't really sure how well known the Stratus was, really great to hear that it's something new for people. That was my primary goal with this video 😀

Never heard of this so it was interesting. Might consider t in the future. Too bad it doesn't sweep the floor! Thanks for sharing.

LOL I wish it swept the floor!! They totally need to make a roomba version that drives around vacuuming up in the shop! Thanks for letting me know it is new to you. I really felt like it was one of those tools that not too many people know about, so I wanted to spread the word in case it fits the bill for someones's shop 😀

Nice overview. Features seem basic but useful. $100 for regular filter and $100 for charcoal filter is more than I'd like to see, but that's pretty typical in these types of devices. More than the pre-filter you can pop into the front of the Jet, though. You can pick those up down at the local big box store because they are a standard size. But it has all the downsides you mentioned (hard to move, heavy, meant to hang from the ceiling, etc). I'm considering something like this in the house as I've been (slowly) remodeling the basement, and that kicks up a ton of insulation dust, crud, and more. In any case, they provided the Stratus to you, so please remember to mark the video as paid promotion, especially since you have an affiliate link. Free, discounted, or long-term loan items are considered compensation. You should also mention right up front in the video description that they provided it to you, but that's just a recommendation whereas the paid promotion checkbox is a requirement.

Never heard of it but sounds good. I do have a question, its hard to tell on the video but how is the sound? Is it very loud? We foster and socialize puppies and I have a "Sun room" that I use at night and inclement weather. With as much as 20 puppies at a time the typical room filters just can not cut it. This may work but I have to be careful about excessive noise around some of the newborn puppies. Would you say that it is similar to a box fan or two or is it much louder? Thanks
@ZacHiggins
@ZacHiggins 2 года назад
Glad to hear that is was something new for you. My hope was to share something that people hadn't seen before 😀 It's not that loud to me, but I'd say louder than a box fan. It's about the same as other workshop air filters. The db levels at 10 ft. away for each "speed" level are 65/69/76 according to Axiom. The lowest speed is not loud at all, the middle is reasonable, and the highest is about the same level as my dust collector noise at the tool. It's totally reasonable for normal workshop noise and not any louder than the tools you're using in the shop, but I couldn't say if it's too loud for the puppies

How much are filters? What is CFM rating , what is micron dust particle rating ? Is it equivalent to HEPA ?

Never saw this device before. Is the filter cartridge cleanable/reusable?

Oh good, I'm glad that I brought something new for you. Yep, it has a pre-filter that you can fully wash, and the regular filter canister can be blown out like other canister filters

Seems like I'm getting more sensitive to dust lately. Now that you've used this for a while, would you still recommend this for shop air filtration?
@ZacHiggins
@ZacHiggins Год назад
If you are noticing a sensitivity to dust, the best thing to do is wear a mask so you are 100% protected. All air filtration systems take time to clear a room of the dust, and they only get the fine particles. Masks, dust collectors, and air filters all work together to keep you and your shop clear of the dust. Having said that, I still recommend this filter. It's working great!

@ZacHiggins
@ZacHiggins 2 года назад
Woohoo!! Glad to be sharing something new with you! Yeah, I re-learned the idea of pulling the dust up vs down when I installed my Oneida dust collector. I had mentioned having to move my ceiling-hung air filter because it would be in the way of my ductwork, and they said they don't really recommend ceiling hung air filters because it's pulling the fine dust from all over the shop up past your face... it was eye opening

I have never heard of axiom. I wonder if they've targeted people other than woodworkers and that is why we haven't heard of them.

Thanks for letting me know, I'm glad I could share something new. It's such a cool design and could be used in so many different types of shops. I feel like if you're in the market, it would be a shame not to know this option is out there
@kronewi

@@ZacHiggins it is a nice option. I still have one of the ceiling mounts that has never made it out of the box because of the difficulty of hanging it. My ceiling is 14ft.
@ZacHiggins
@ZacHiggins 2 года назад
@@kronewi I totally hear that! I had to take my old one down to install the duct work for my dust collection setup, and I was just done with ladders LOL I went on the hunt to find another alternative, and I was really happy when I found the Stratus
