I can't even express how much I've enjoyed putting together this folder, and having it now to browse through!!
Of course one person doesn't need to have this much paint, but I'm so glad I do!

This is been quite an undertaking… no?…. it would be nice to have everything in one consolidated book that’s for sure. I’ve noticed other artists starting to do that. I have things swatched on pieces of paper…tiny swatch cards on key rings …on small pieces of paper stuffed into a drawer with that particular color of paint …and it’s still all separated out …so I’m thinking seriously about doing a consolidated one myself. This is definitely a good option. You’ve done a wonderful job, especially with all of the pigment information, lightfastness, etc..

I love this! I currently have a card box. I ordered one of these books..it wasn’t the size it said it was and the card-spots were much smaller than even a standard trading card. I’ll get another-maybe next week when my girls are here and say they’re taking me shopping. I want to see..and feel, what I’m getting. The one I got was also made with a slightly shaded/blurred plastic..and it seemed super-cheap, like it might tear. I’m sure it is likely an odd-dud, but also be aware in the old adage, you get what you pay for. I’m also thinking about getting one of those laminating things, for my palette swatch cards, mix sheets…and I’d love to laminate and protect the color wheel that comes in Quiller’s book..it’s quite big though, so I’ll have to figure out another way to do that.

I thought about the ring binder way, and the flexibility of being able to add/move the inserts, which is great, but for some reason I'm really rough on ring binder inserts and they always end up broken!

I just wanted to thank you for sharing this process with us and it was great to see the final result too. I don’t have anywhere near as many paints as you (my collection is gradually growing though 😂) but you’ve inspired me to create something similar for my swatches. I have a swatch sheet with each palette and I have a book that I use to swatch paints as I buy them but I love that you can reorder this and easily compare all the different brands for each colour. I already bought a folder and started writing out my cards, now I just need to do the swatches!

As I'm not a RU-vidr or professional artist I can't see me ever having enough paints to make that size of folder worthwhile, but I do love quite a few colors that I don't have though lol. Something like this but in a smaller A5 size would suit me better I think, especially if it had pages you could add or subtract as needed. Recently I've made up four small art kits in army pouches, using various A6 sized journals. One for markers and simple sketches. Two different watercolor ones with a limited palette in the portable micro painters. One has colors suited to landscapes/seascapes and the other has a brighter mix for urban sketching and flowers. My last one has dried gouache in it. What I'd really like to do with the paint ones is make up small color mixing charts which show all the colors I can make from each limited palette and then carry that in each kit. I originally painted a couple of these in one of the A6 books but realized that used up my painting pages and I'd need to do it again in the next book. I'm thinking of making it a concertina type design no bigger than A6 so it fits in the pouch. Fun times ahead 😃
@helencryer

I definitely wouldn't call myself a professional artist, and I have a sneaking suspicion that even if I hadn't taken to RU-vid this year, I'd still be happily accumulating watercolours!! I love them! Aside from any actual painting I do with them 😁 Your art set-up sounds absolutely lovely - I think your ideas are great!

Wow, it's perfect👌🏼 Such a lot of work but so worth it😍 It definitely appeals to my 'need for order' brain! I also use my swatches as reference but mine are no where near as organised as yours. I have made a start though........I really need to get my act together😂

Wow, those books are gorgeous as well as being such useful resources! Do you also keep a color journal to document mixes you've made? I just started one earlier this year, and it is super helpful in reminding me of mixes I've done by accident and loved (which, if I remember to, I duplicate in the book and note the color names/numbers). It's also a great place to mix up various primary triads or complementaries to see how they go together.

Wow, that looks beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing this great resource. I know you said in a previous video, but I don't remember: What was the reason you cut & pasted the watercolor paper swatches onto cards rather than just using a rectangular piece of watercolor paper that you wrote the text on too -- other than the fact that it looks so much fancier this way 😅? I'd love to make a swatchbook like this, but I can't imagine doing all the cutting and pasting!

Thanks! Partly it was to use a bit less watercolour paper, partly it was to have smooth card to write on, and partly it was to have neat edges on my swatches! I just used a guillotine - it wasn't too bad!
