The weeds have been taking over my pastures for several years. It's time to TAKE my pastures BACK!
So, take a look as I start the process, using my new PTO Sprayer. This sprayer gives me the means to spray LARGE areas in just a short time. It's very efficient.
Also, check out how well the herbicide I use works. It's called Chaparral. It will kill most broadleaf weeds, nightshade, goat weeds and much more... It's what I need to kill the weeds in my pastures...
Did I mention that it kills GOAT WEEDS ??!! :)
I wish I didn't have to resort to chemicals... I wish my sheep were eating more of the forbs (weeds) but they aren't even making a dent in them... so... I've got to turn to something else for help.
Check out my new PTO Sprayer, and take care,
alan

The thorny weed your talking about is called horse nettle . I have a ton of it. It is in the nightshade family.

Hi, Great video! I am thinking about buying this exact Rozell sprayer. Would you mind offering your opinion of it after several years of use? Any problems area or design faults, etc? The only thing that I wish it had was a place to wrap up the hose for the gun. That gun is a different design than I've seen. Thanks again for any additional info and for sharing the video.

I still recommend it. No problems. I busted a valve, but that was my fault. Make sure you WINTERIZE IT. You definitely can bust some expensive stuff on the sprayer if it's got water in it and it freezes. I'm going to do a winterize video in the next week or 2. I wrap the hose several times around the ROPS on my tractor. I only give myself a few feet of hose at hand, unless I am going to be walking away from the tractor spraying stuff farther away. Hope that helps, alan homesteadadvisor.com/

Yep, always a good thing to do all you can, to "Take care of business" BEFORE it needs it. LOL Beautiful setup, and no matter the cost, sometimes you just have to do all you can, to protect what we have been blessed with. Not to mention the saving of your back and body parts. LOL Thank the Lord!

Protect what we have BY NOT SPRAYING POISONS ON IT!!!

Cherry Downs I agree with all my heart, and I never, ever use it either, that is, unless I am shown that there are times when there is no other answer, and something dangerous is going to take place, if something serious isn't done right away. I'm a "Die Hard" "no chemical" person myself, and it took years for me to learn that there are times when an emergency calls for serious action. Caring for your animals is just as important, tending your land is a responsibility, and when we are one person, no matter the machinery we have, we are not always able to care for several acres on our own. A time to live, and a time to die, a time to give, and a time to take. There are always two sides to every situation, it's smart to hear all of the ways to go, when we are in a situation that looks bigger than we are. Letting your sheep die is not an answer either. Soil can be healed, it's that, or leaving the poisonous grasses that are already in the soil stay there and take your chances. The sheep will reap the decisions you make, so think hard.

The earth is so saturated by poisons people put on and in the ground it's losing it's ability to renew itself. If we keep this up we will reach a point of no return. Natural substances are always better. VINEGAR SPRAYED ON EACH WEED IS JUST AS EFFECTIVE AND NOT AS POISONOUS! People are not listening, too many lies told by Biotech companies, too many not informed of the truth. Too many uninformed about how nature works. If people would stop fighting nature and work WITH nature this would be a much cleaner world.

Cherry Downs If after spraying vinegar many times, and it still DOES NOT WORK, then what? then it's ok to let the sheep die? AND WHY ASSUME that those who use something in an emergency, one time, are ready to kill the planet? Having only one half acre myself, I have, so far, never had to use poison, and have had to dig up tons of material off my land and replace it with new soil just to keep it clean, and not have to resort to using chemicals, but not everyone has that option.

Vinegar has always worked for me! And did you ever hear of pulling up a weed...or hoeing it down....or digging it up???? Seems to me any of these alternatives are BETTER than continuing to POISON our soil!! THINK outside the brainwashed box and the sheep will NEVER die. It's called WORK! You know? That thing that requires muscles and time! Walking through that pasture and hoeing down those weeds would be good exercise!!! I'm 76 years old and I just built a Hugelkultur Garden, I mow my own 20'X 20' lawn, that takes care of most of my weed problem. I built raised beds in my back yard!! Keeps me healthy.

Too bad about the spraying,i think it does more damage than good. I have to agree with indigenous arms in that the weeds are indicators on soil deficiencies.Sadly we attack weeds instead of realizing they are bringing up nutrients and minerals(especially deep rooted ones). The spraying not only kills soil life(mychorizae,fungal nets and good microbes etc) it isn't the best thing for ground water. You also get the chemicals when you eat the animals grazed on this sprayed field. Seeding this with a good mixture of nitrogen fixers would likely improve the pasture-clover,rye,comfrey,etc. Although nightshades are poison to us and some animals, they know to skip them and/or only eat a small amount. A good way to see this in action is when a field is burned,watch what weeds pop up and you will see plants that bring potassium back first in most cases(fire takes away the potassium). Nature wants to correct the soil,but sadly we interfere in a bad way.
@kai2698
@kai2698 10 лет назад
To add to this; some weeds are edible, and wild weeds often contain more nutrients than store-brought organic produce. Why not harvest them for eating or compost?
@MaruAdventurer
@MaruAdventurer 10 лет назад
kai2698 TP2 indicated some of the weeds are nightshade. Depending on the particular species some are poisionous. Nearly all contain strong alkaloids which for many farm animals can cause sickness.

I try not to use chemicals flippantly. These pastures have not had livestock on them for about 10 years. My land is NOT good soil. I am (on a smaller scale) reviving some of my land with applications (large applications) of wood chips, and have made several videos of the applications and the thought process behind them. I have HARD RED CLAY all over my place. Nature was not correcting itself, at least not as far as I could see. The overgrowth of nightshade has been growing and growing for years. I could see no end in sight, so I decided to intervene. I will definitely look closely at any chem use in the future. It was being taken over by blackberries, poison weeds, goat weeds and many more plants. I knew that I would have negative comments about using chems... but... I made all those negative comments in my own head before I made the decision. Hopefully, from now on, the animals can take care of what is left. I do appreciate all the comments, alan

TP2, I am certainly not wanting to come off criticizing,after all you know your land better than i do. I realize you are not drowning the land like the typical roundup farmer. I will say i wish all these herbacides and pesticides would go away. I am in Central Texas, we have more rock and cleche here,plenty of clay,and although different,we have some of the same troubles-basically poor stuff to grow in. Luckily plagues of grasshoppers make up for it LOL. Sometimes overseeding over the bad weeds with a more dominant crop can take care of the bad weeds.perhaps clover/legumes. I love the idea of the wood chips you are spreading. They will certainly improve the land. i had some large patches of land that seemed to not even hold grass very well,and a mix of clover and legumes planted brought it back. In my area everything seems to be alkaline soil and lack of nitrogen(sulphur corrects the alkalinity). Clover/legumes are nitrogen fixers.
@kai2698
@kai2698 10 лет назад
***** How about composting the nightshades and other poisonous weeds? I'm just curious to know if that would be an ideal solution. If the poison and other bad stuff can be neutralized through composting, then TP2 could turn the weeds into nutrient-dense fertilizer, thus killing two birds with one stone?

can you send the spelling of the chemical you used, and what it all kills, we just started this past sat 3rd walking our property to hand cut these burr/thorny ball bushes, and spray the nub? left in the ground . Then we plan on cutting what im told is mesquite trees that have the sharp thorns to then go back later and safely use the tractor with out tearing up the tires!! WITH THIS SAID WE HAVE HORSES ON THE 100 ACRES THAT WE HAVE TO BE CARE WHAT WE USE......

+Top flight Here's the links I have for this product: Here's a link to a 1.25 LB package of Chaparral: astore.amazon.com/homegardenfarmimprovementemergencypreparedness.homesadvis0b-20/detail/B006KXQQOU Here's a link to a 5 LB package of Chaparral: astore.amazon.com/homegardenfarmimprovementemergencypreparedness.homesadvis0b-20/detail/B00BW5IQLW If I remember right, you use about 2.5 - 3oz per acre. It's a soluble powder. Read the manufacturers label to see if it'll work for your particular brush and trees. As for horses, I don't know for sure, but I don't think it'll hurt them... Again... read the labels online before you buy.

so you are going to spray chemicals on the pastures --where your livestock grazes --what could go wrong
@TexFarmer

How many acres can that sprayer do on a full tank. I know it depends on speed and amount of spray, but on average?
@BIGALTX
@BIGALTX 10 лет назад
About 7 acres... For this particular chemical, you run the sprayer at 40psi at about 4 mph. Trying not to overlap was a little difficult for me. I'm used to the smaller sprayer that only covered 6'... THIS one was really reaching out there, and will take me a while before I can judge the distances better... But it is a real time saver.
@jimbuford4147
@jimbuford4147 7 лет назад
Like your videos but tell me how do you spray and keep the right distance between what has been sprayed and what has not so as not to respray?
@BIGALTX
@BIGALTX 7 лет назад
Sometimes that's difficult to do. I usually pick out a fence post or tree or something ahead to guide my line of sight. Then, estimate how far out the spray is going and try to get close to that spray line on my next pass. I'm sure I overlap on most passes, but figure I'd rather overlap than miss spraying strips of pasture.
@jimbuford4147
@jimbuford4147 7 лет назад
One thing I have tried is to spray very early when the grass is still very wet from dew and i can use the tracks on the wet grass from the previous pass as guides.

Weeds that don't belong there? If weeds did not belong there then they would not be there. Jeremiah 2:7 - "I brought you into a fertile land to eat its fruit and rich produce. But you came and defiled my land and made my inheritance detestable." I believe every so called weed and every so called pest has its place in the order of nature. We have all destroyed that order with pesticides and herbicides. I pray that everyone will do their part in trying to restore that order instead of destroying it.

The weeds, thorns, etc came about because of the fall of man. His fall affected our environment as well.
