The Wii U is such an odd system. It has some hits for sure, but man was that a dark era for Nintendo. No Metroid, no mainline Zelda until the end of its lifespan basically. Star Fox Zero was a bit of a mess with its control scheme. Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival was just a disaster. Around this era is when Mario Party kind of start being bad. Mario Tennis was in the same vein, the Mario sports games were starting to become a bit not good. People say the Wii U has a great library, but I don't know I think only around 4-5 games maybe are worth playing nowadays. On top of that many of the games have been ported to Switch, leaving the Wii U in a weird spot. I don't have any nostalgia really for the Wii U, but I do like the Wii itself. The gamepad integration for the most part wasn't great, and the third party support was basically dead.
It's crazy how dark it really was. I mean, I was a lifelong nintendo kid, and it was the first nintendo console I completely skipped! It's so sad. Especially since they first showed this off with a Zelda tech demo that looked SO GOOD! Because of the reasons you mentioned, I really don't collect for switch outside of some games that are locked on the system. Outside of Game and Wario, there isn't much I want!
@@32bitmusician People are coming around on it now, but I think its only really for modding or homebrew. People speak of the Wii U as a great library of games, but you have to remember how it was when the system was active. I think the good games outweigh the bad ones, but still. Several sort of middling games in long franchises like Animal Crossing, Mario Party and Stafox while having no entries for major ones like Fire Emblem, and Metroid.
