depends on which character. they load from top left to bottom right. just imagine how long it'll take for hatsune miku's kasane teto alternate costume to load!
I'm gonna risk looking like an idiot, but here's my guess. The game's nearly 16GB as it is, so they reached the upper limit on how much stuff they could add without producing expensive 32GB cartridges. So in past Smash games, they had 2 versions of each character render, 1 low-res for the character select screen, and another one for when it needs to be shown on the screen. But here in Ultimate, because there's so much stuff they needed to store there, they probably decided to get rid of the (69x8=552) Low-Res renders to make room for spirits PNGs, or something similar. That's probably a mayor reason as to why they got rid of the trophies also; On top of production costs.
@Miror B GOD - I dunno about that reason. Because Spirits are kind of trophies in this game, just in 2D instead of 3D, but those don't have descriptions, meaning that it wasn't a problem to cut their descriptions. So I don't think that's the reason.
Maybe GameFreak didn't give Sakurai and the team permission to use their shiny designs. Just a guess. Except for Ivysaur (close enough), Incineroar, and Charizard (Gen 2).
@Tori The Nerd Ok, that would be pretty dumb, why not? It’s just a Pokémon’s recolor, so why would someone be able to use a character itself, but not a it’s recolor?
Where tf is *SMASH RUN!!* My God that mode would be fantastic online! It is literally the most fun game mode. If you haven't played it,do yourself a favor. It is literally Smash's Smashes version of Kirby Air Ride.
@@tezcanaslan2877 Well my point is that it's great to have multiple ways of playing Smash. Outside of Home Run Contest (which got old fast), all we have is just direct fighting. As much as I love a good round of competition, sometimes you want to experience something different. I mean, imagine if Mario Kart didn't have Battle Mode, this is what Smash feels like right now to me. And don't get me started on world of light... It was a chore to complete. The best part of it is literally the last bit of it where you get to experience a small piece of a Boss Rush, Adventure Mode, and All Star mode. (Literally the stuff a lot of us want. I replayed the ending a few times just to enjoy it). And even then you're missing stuff like Target Test/Smash/Blast and a real Race to the finish. Even the dang Trophy collection games were fun. No disrespect to what we got, it just feels incomplete based on literally every game before it. Sure special/custom Smash (only good with friends and not online) and multi-man is there..... but they're just ok. And squad strike is cool but...... it doesn't make up for anything missing (and once again not online). Thank god for Stage builder..... Thank god for the fans being fun and creative.... I would pull back a lot of my grievances if matches were far more customizable than they are, such as being able to control what Trophies/Pokemon appear in match. Or being able to fight on certain segments of stages that change locations, or with certain conditions to stages like what we get with Spirits. And being able to do all of this online as well..... Sorry for the long comment. I just have a lot of mixed feelings about Smash _Ultimate_ . It's a great experience for competitive fighting but other type of play are left behind. (BTW, what happened to Multi-Man (fighting mii) in Classic mode? ).
@Muse Suse They could have re-used assets and just updated textures. I know Sakurai likes doing everything fresh but why fix what's not broken? The only issues I had with Smash Run was that the time limit couldn't be adjusted and that it wasn't online. Other than that I was happy with the mode as is.
I would say to give Yoshi a dry bones alt, indeed not only would be a niche reference not only to dry bones but also be a reference to how in smash64 you could actually see the skeleton of the fighters if electrocuted, also it just looks freaky at, and if they gave the option of giving the characters the will galeem/darkhon control eye look it would extra freaky.
My biggest nitpick: the Super Mario World stage being part of the yoshi series while all but one songs from Super Mario World are part of the Mario series meaning that you cannot play them on that stage. WHY?
Actually, none of the Pokemon have their actual shinies: -Pikachu's is way too bright to be his shiny -Jigglypuf deosn't have green-eyed alt -Pichu doesn't have diffrent skin tones -Mewtwo's shade of green is way off and his eyes aren't green -Squirtle's shell is the wrong shade of green and his skin is the wrong shade of blue -Ivysaur, while having a yellow flower, has blue skin instead of green and pink eyes instead of yellow -Charizard doesn't have a black alt -Lucario doesn't have a yellow alt -Greninja is only partly black while the shiny is entirely black, and he has an orange tounge instead of his red one. And his yellow parts stay yellow instead of turning blue -Incineroar, while his alt is EXTREMELY close to his shiny, it changes the shade of grey on the chest while the shiny doesn't. I know some of them reference shinies, but, thechnically none of them is accurate. My only guess is that The Pokemon Company for some reason doesn't want to let Sakurai have shinies in the alts.
Yeah he was stretching pretty far for most the pokemon. The only one I can confidently say has their shiny colouration is Incineroar, even though it's still slightly different. I feel like you can just chalk that difference up to the artist being a bit loose with the colours or wanting the chest hair to be a different shade like in every other alt. The other pokemon don't have anything that's nearly as close to their shinies as Incineroar's is.
Ryu, Ken and Terry's command inputs are mapped to the "A" button to make them feel closer to their home series. In both Super Street Fighter and Fatal Fury, those inputs are done using the Punch button in combination with specific movements of the Joy Stick. For fans of those series, those characters feel extremely faithful to their original incarnations.
They should make a skin dlc. It could add a lot more cool skins, some old ones and different references in the games. Plus it will be a cool thing to add into the smash.
I never understood why they cut Wario's and Mac's alts. Like, just let them stay. In fact, give everybody like 20 alt colors and add them as unlockables through world of light, or something. Or just give us the option to customize the colors.
I really hate that Ultimate has implemented an almost universal 8-alt restriction on characters. Some characters could really do with more, such as Mario and Yoshi (Fire Mario and Black Yoshi) and Wario and Little Mac and all that.
I really wish you could use any song on any stage, there are a billion songs in this game but it only lets you use the ones from the stage's game series.
13:33 YES!! and not just for more op assist trophies, but for useless and annoying ones like dog thing, it's just as bad for the user of the trophie as the enemy
" 'A' inputs shouldn't activate the command inputs" is a terrible nitpick, like the worst I've heard, that is the best part of the character and helps with combo flow...
I have a few nitpicks myself: - I wish all stages returned - Many assist trophies are fan favorites that many wanted playable - Ironically, I wish there an assist trophy mode where you can control a handful of the assist trophies in regular matches (I mean 1/3 of them can be KO’d!)
The assist tropy mode vaguely reminded me of a sub-game in a Kirby game (Helper to Hero from Kirby Super Star Ultra) in which you had to play as one of the enemies agains a boss rush. Imagine how cool would it be if they made some assist trophies playable, and added a boss rush mode like in Brawl, that you need to beat in order to unlock them (Like having only them aviable at the beggining, and unlocking the character after completing the mode with it)
A playable assist trophy mode is something I've wanted for a while too. A lot of them have a lot of moves, and it would only be a matter of mapping those moves to buttons. It would be cool if, for example, in an otherwise normal 1v1 match, 2, 4, or 6 other players could join in as assist trophies and act as...well, assistance for the 2 main players. I'd be like having a posse.
I think the video capture thing is due to copyright issues with the 3rd party characters. Notice how every replay puts the copyright info at the end. Still pretty dumb tho
Maybe, but you can also capture photos of them. I think the lack of video capture is due to technical reasons. Smash is very intensive on the Switch's system, and I'm guessing they don't want you to save videos during a match. This is because Smash is optimized to run at a steady 60 frames per second, which is crucial for timing moves right in a fighting game. However if one player held down the capture button during a match, it could lag the game while playing the game. It'd probably make online even laggier, too. The way Smash Bros. series' replay system works is they record everyone's controller inputs and random elements. Then they load up the game again with the same stage an characters, and make them do the same inputs. They also pick the same random elements, otherwise the replays would be different than what actually happened. The game doesn't save a video recording of the match as that would take a lot of processing power in data storage, it merely replays back the same inputs, which is much less intensive on the system. This is also my guess why you can't fast forward replays as it could be too hard on the Switch's processing, but because it replays inputs, you can change the camera during recordings, which is a nice upside.
@@MeesterTweester I still feel like they could at least improve the way replays work, such as making them easier to navigate and allowing them to be edited.
I have a quick nitpick: Main Theme: Twilight Princess (aka Twilight Princess' Hyrule Field Theme) is not the top song for Bridge of Eldin despite being the theme the plays 99% of the time on Bridge of Eldin in Twilight Princess. Also, I'm surprised you didn't mention the fact that the game doesn't save your character/skin between matches.
(7:30) They should have 3 steps in the hazards toggle: All on, enemies, hazards, moving stages. Hazards off, but platforms and stages still move and travel. All off, all hazards are off and all stages are static. This should preferably be set per stage instead of a global switch, but at least having it in 3 steps like this would improve it.
Real talk, can we get an option to take Smash attacks off the A button entirely? It would be a huge accessibility option for people like myself who come from games like Rivals of Aether, where you can tilt with the A button, and smash with a different button or the right stick
DLC recoveries be like: Joler: I use grappling hook and sometimes Arsen helps me! Hero: I use kazwoosh Banjo: I bounce off of a bounce pad Terry: pure leg strength! Plant: leaves are amazing! Min min: L O N G A R M S Byleth: you
For me as a mii main i wish that they don't do the shading on the vs render maybe they can just fix the outfits and hats but hide the face or heck although it may not happen maybe for certain mii costumes like sans cuphead etc maybe either make there own render or use a render from the mii fighter videos
8:30 Ryu, Ken and Terry, also referred to as “Shotos”, have special inputs also mapped to the attack button because when you do a special using the a button, it deals more damage to the opponent.
That's not what he meant. Yes, they can use motion inputs to perform stronger versions of their special moves, but Odyssey Central was 'complaining' about the fact that these motion inputs can be activated with both the A and the B button. For example, if I'm playing Ryu then both ↓↘→ + A and ↓↘→ + B give me Hadoken. It would actually be more convenient if they only activated with the B button. Again, let's say I'm playing Ryu and I'm in the air, facing right. I want to fastfall and do a back-air. So I press down to fastfall, then roll the control stick to the left and press A to input the aerial. However, the game reads this input as ↓↙← + A so instead of fastfall back-air, I get a Tatsu! This issue would be fixed if the motion inputs only registered with the B button, so ↓↙← + A would always be fastfall back-air and ↓↙← + B would always be Tatsu. It would be more consistent that way.
I agree with all of these, heres some of mine: - Arenas should allow you to have a local second player like mario kart 8d online, you can have 2 people on 1 switch play online with their friends. Smash 4 had this, this will make doubles better as the matchmaking ruleset is terrible. -Toon Link should have ice arrows And with young link/toon link if u spam arrows after awhile some of them will be normal arrows like some other moves. -stage hazards should have a toggle on a button on the selections screen like omega/battlefield. -a long with the other hazard off changes mentioned. Yoshis island melee should have the shy guys items off when hazards on items off like og melee. -Rework Gannondorf moveset entirely, hes still a clone, and use his Twilight Princess look. Move his old moveset to the fzero villian dark shadow. -make the input lag less, and the buffer along with fixing the online netcode. -unranked mode based off connection -bring back mute city melee
"Rework Gannondorf moveset entirely" It's sad that people still have to say this after 4 games. Come on Sakurai, just do it! And I strongly agree with moving Ganondorf's old moveset to Black Shadow (except for Volcano Kick, Flame Choke, and a couple other unique animations. Those moves are actually pretty fitting for Ganondorf).
I think I can explain the stages: Rainbow Road: They lifted the assets directly from MK7 for Sm4sh, which they couldn't do on the Switch. Would take too long to build from ground up. Poke Floats: Similar reason - assets were lifted from Pokemon Collosseum on the Gamecube. Pac-Maze: Gimmick only worked with multiple screens, which the 3DS offered. The ghosts simply wouldn't work on the Switch -- if one player got a power pellet, it would be too confusing for other players as the ghosts would turn blue and yet still harm them. Woolly World: Yeah, I really have no clue.
How dare you not mention that the “love theme” in the mother series isn’t actually the love theme but “mom’s hometown” a different music track that uses the Love Theme motif
There's a bunch of name inconsistencies like that. Remember when the track titled "Onnett" didn't actually have the Onnett town theme from Earthbound, but instead a few themes from Mother 1?
I'm kind of annoyed how Ganondorf is still so lazy with his moveset. They gave his moveset, which is mostly stolen from Cpt Falcon btw, and gave him a sword that he never uses in his games. Like seriously give him more from his games and give his moveset now to a Samurai Goro Cpt Falcon echo
I know people hate Icicle Mountain and Rumble Falls, but I wished they returned. Like yeah they’re bad, but I’d rather play on those than 75m. And Corneria for some reason is so small 😡
1. I still don’t get why Mario Kart, Yoshi, Wario, and Donkey Kong are considered separate franchises from Super Mario. 2. I’m honestly surprised that one of your nitpicks wasn’t that Dry Bones isn’t in Smash
Something I'd like to mention about losing Fire Mario is that Peach actually has two white alternate costumes - one that's entirely white and one that has some red on it - so it wouldn't even be that hard or weird to have Fire Mario and Wedding Mario when they'd probably be easier to tell apart than the two white costumes Peach currently has.
I hate how in the mementos stage, life will change isn't a song that can play and isn't even in the game at all, the fact that my girl futaba doesn't appear in the background of mementos, and that crash isn't in the game
The A + B Smash Attack could at least disable smash attacks with only the A button, as I use the C Stick for smash attacks, and often accidentally perform a smash attack when I want to perform a tilt attack.
Personally I prefer their designs from Ultimate They have better proportions and things like their shoes and arms look less "realistic" (which I think that goes better with their designs) The unique thing that I miss from those designs are the color in the eyes
You know what doesn't make sense, Wolf runs Faster than Fox in Star Fox but in smash Fox runs Faster than Wolf which doesn't make sense to me. Yes I do use A+B Smash Attacks.
@@BootyBreakerForMen I am. He may be A tier but not S tier. S tier goes to 3 characters. Fox, Falco, and Jigglypuff. Pikachu is one of the most controversial characters in that game not a chance he's S tier
One of my nitpicks is that Byleth pronounces some of the weapon names wrong. They pronounce Aymr like "uh meer" when it's pronounced like "A mur" and they pronounce Areadbhar how it's spelled but the B is pronounced like an F so it's "Air red far"
Okay, Fortnite gets a costume and a song, you satisfied? Or are you actually going all in with Jonesy as a playable character. And mario9 don’t argue with a 9 yo
Crafted world Yoshi looks so unnatural. Not only in Smash Ultimate, but also in his own game. The whole game is about arts and crafts. But yoshi doesn’t look like any form of art or craft. ( this sentence is based on something that Arlo said )
I'd pay for PokeFloats. With characters getting so much hype, it doesn't seem likely they'll ever take the time to do some stage-only DLC, which I find to be such a shame.
I think the lack of video capture and Squad Strike online are due to technical reasons. Smash is very intensive on the Switch's system, and I'm guessing they don't want you to save videos during a match. In Squad Strike, the game takes a while to load each new character. This is why there's a bit of a gap after your player gets KO'd and you respawn, as the game has to load a new fighter. I'm guessing this would be too laggy online or be too hard on the Switch's processing. Also, this is the reason why Kirby loses his copy abilities whenever CPUs are KO'd and unloaded in single player modes, as his copy abilities are tied to the opponent's data.
Modern Kirby should’ve had better representation. I mean, don’t get me wrong, what we’ve got right now is fine enough(Kirby/DeDeDe final smashes, Meta Knight alts, music, and spirits), but we could’ve gotten so much more. Imagine a level based on Epic Yarns art style or Planet Robobot’s aesthetic, it would be sick. An assist trophy for Magolor or Taranza would also be great. A fourth Kirby Rep in general would be just awesome too see. Like, it doesn’t even have to be a modern character, like Bandanna Dee, Magolor, or Daroach, I’d be just as happy about a classic character, like Rick, Gooey, or Adeline. On the other side of the spectrum, Sonic is generally just horribly represented in Smash. The music line-up is... decent, And the spirit lineup is also admittedly great. But everything else just isn’t great. Getting the biggest one out of the way, Sonic’s moveset. It’s understandable why it’s just a bunch of spin moves, considering he was added in such short notice, but after Brawl, they very much could’ve gave him an actual move set. A ball with fists has to go. Next, we need another stage that isn’t just Green Hill. Mania and Forces were very recent at the time of Ultimates development, Sunset Heights or Studiopolis would’ve been interesting stages. If they wanna stick with the classics, then Chemical Plant, Casino Night, Death Egg, Stardust Speedway, And Sky Sanctuary would’ve been great stages. Windy Valley, Twinkle park, City Escape, Pumpkin Hill, Crisis City, Windmill Isle, AND Planet Wisp ALL would’ve been great stages, as well. Lastly, and More-Or-Less me just being ungrateful if anything, we need a new Sonic Rep. My most wanted was always Dr. Robotnik, but Tails, Shadow, & Knuckles would be good additions as well. Did I really just spend 15 minutes making 2 paragraphs worth of rants about kids games that nobody’s gonna read.
My nitpick is the fact that Lucina is an echo fighter of Marth (who's fighting style is more classy and elegant) when in fact she's supposed to fight like Chrom (brute and ""in your face"), the one who actually trained her. She only took Marth's name in FE Awakening's story, never tried to copy his moves (and there is no way to copy the moves of someone who lived 2000 years ago). This mess could've been avoided if we got Chrom instead of robin in Smash 4 so Lucina would be HIS echo fighter (this would even alleviate the "too many fe repz" complain), but becase Sakurai apparently doesn't know that Chrom can use a spear too (something Monolith Soft knew very well when making Project X Zone 2), we are stuck with this forever. There is also Lucina's OOC voice acting, but thankfully this is englsh version exclusive.
Surprise no mention at little mac's outro. If anyone played punch out games, he may be a hard training boxer but hes super happy go lucky when it comes to him winning or going into fights, shows more fatigued emotion when getting his ass beat and only is really serious when hes trying to get back up. Like he shouldn't be all mean mug when he wins, he needs to smile more, jump up in excitement, throw a few punches and finish off in a victory pose with a smile on his face while breathing heavily from a hard fought fight. Like he looks so weird with that awkward jaw frame of his when he tries to be serious on his victory screen. Like c'mon. Also he should be reworked.
I'm guessing Rainbow Road's problem was that it was an entire race track they had to remaster in HD that was initially just ripped from low quality Mario Kart 7 3DS assets, as opposed to Port Town Aero Drive or Mario Circuit which had Wii U versions to go off of. Pac-Maze seemed cut simply because they just couldn't translate its gimmick involving multiple 3DS screens to the single screen experience in a way that was as faithful and true to the original stage as they wanted. Poke Floats was also built off of simple but largely scaled N64 assets and Wooly World might have been a little graphically intense for 8 Player or something, but they both kinda also fill the requirements for the "annoying, platforming is necessary to survive, constantly moving" levels that generally seemed to be cut for Ultimate, with the others being Orbital Gate Assault and the especially crazy vertical scrollers of Icicle Mountain and Rumble Falls.
Kirby's moveset should be remade. Like, seriously? He has so much cool abilities, but most of his moveset are just boring kicks! They should do something like Megaman's moveset for Kirby.
I hate that I can’t listen to the Super Mario World Medley on Yoshi’s Island because one is listed as the Mario series and one is listed as yoshi even though they are from the same game 😑
Yeah as a Mario fan I agree. But: Toads appear in a variety of colors, blue included. Blue Toad is playable in New Super Mario Bros. Wii, New Super Mario Bros. U, and New Super Luigi U, and a separate blue Toad only named Toad is playable in Super Mario Bros 2 and Super Mario 3D World. Toads do not have any known direct affiliation with Daisy outside of her close friendship with Peach, but Toads can be partnered with her in various spin-off games, and if she defeats Bowser in Super Mario Run, she rescues Toad instead of Peach. Blue Toads were the color of Toad that supported Daisy on her team in Mario Strikers Charged. Blue Toads are also among the various Toad colors that can be seen piloting Daisy-themed hot-air balloons on N64 Royal Raceway in Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, alongside ones themed after Peach and Rosalina. This is from the Smash Wiki explaining Daisy and Blue toad in her moveset
Mewtwo's yellow palette isn't his current shiny, it's an older one from gen 2 just like Charizard. Also I've suggested it to plenty other people already, but there's no reason NOT to combine the Fierce Deity Link idea with the existing Triforce Slash; just make it so the initial startup has YL try to put on the mask as a line of sight appear and freezes the closest player in its path, then reuse Link's Sm4sh Triforce Slash animations with an HD Fierce Deity Link model (could even just be a modified Sm4sh Link model if you want to save on modeling ressources), and call it "Fierce Deity Slash". Don't even have to remove the Triforce from the equation either. Also fun fact: iirc there was a unique Mario Kart series icon in Sm4sh that went unused but was still in the files. You can see it through modding the two games; and it works perfectly!
Athletic Theme - Super Mario World is in the Yoshi series when the other Super Mario World music are in the Mario series and the Yoshi's Island (Melee) stage is considered part of the Yoshi series when it's a Mario game.
