I did the opposite about one year ago and switched back from OneNote to pen and paper. For me personally it is faster and less distracting to manage my present weekly in paper. One a week I transfer between OneNote (wich is archive and also future planning and Project Management) an my analog Notebook. This Workflow fits me perfectly.
My creative workflow is : 1. A6 pocket notebook (for ideas on the go, whenever I go) 2. A5 ring binder (for developing some ideas from the A6 pocket notebook) 3. iPad Pro (for creating the final output of the ideas I’ve developed) As a creative consultant I love going from analogue to digital.
I do the same thing. I go back and forth between paper and pencil and digital all the time. I've found like you as well, out of all the note taking apps/Bujo apps out there, OneNote is the most flexible for me too. From a career perspective, I live and die by OneNote. It has everything in it, technical, personal etc. Great quality video!
I can see the benefit of both, i drew a lot of mind map, ipad can be easily adjust and redo, you have so much color pen and marker options. And what i learn from your video is they can be easier to manage. But as the perspective of paper, you get access to a huge paper, at leat A3 size, and if you want, something like A0 is possible, you have the feelings of writing on real paper, and you can hang multiple paper together to help you develop your ideas. As for now, I just tried went back to paper, because the larger paper size, also as i now feel the paper is a limited physical space, I do focus myself more on creative work than sometime on ipad I write for fun.
I have the same struggle bouncing between digital and pen and paper notes. I think I am about ready to just commit to digital and make it happen because of the extra benefits. Nice choice in sporting a classic Casio watch.
Ditched my MacBook two years ago and I use my iPad on a daily basis to support my private and work life. I did recently change my iPad Pro to the new M2 Air as I feel the Pro is too powerful for what IOS allows it to do.
I really like the simplicity and authenticity of your videos. I keep flip-flopping between paper and electronic notes too. Had never considered minimalism as an advantage - but that’s a good one. thanks for sharing.
I’ve flipped back and forth too since I got an iPad Air and Mini back in March and I’m going to use my iPad more often to record my notes for work or other journaling.
I’m the same way. I’ve been paperless iPad only (M2 12.9) since 2021 but went through the same back and forth. I bought the 13” M4 iPad specifically because it’s thinner and has the matte screen, which makes it better for note taking. Only thing is I use GoodNotes instead of OneNote.
I have been thinking about this. It’s a tricky one because due to sensitive information in my notes for work I need to blur it. How much blur I don’t know and that might destroy the video….🤷♀️ I need to think it through to see how it would work as it is one I think could provide a lot of value.
@@Jillatcheckthebox You could eventually create a system with fictive data or part of your own, which is not sensitive. It’s not very easy, I guess. But no need to reveal your real data. I ask myself also if giving my precious data to an app’s cloud is secure? I’d prefer to store it on our NAS server. Is it also possible to export my data and use it in another app? What is the guarantee that an app will exist for ever? So to say, I’m still confused about which app to use and how to backup my data.
I am also a youTuber with my own small channel. And I have the same problem with my notebook and my iPad! Eheheh. Thank you for your video! I subscribed to your channel because I liked how you made the video and because it is nice to help fellow RU-vidrs!. A suggestion: make videos of 8 minutes because below the 8 minutes it will not be really monetized! best wishes to your channel!
Thank you for walking us through your thinking on replacing paper notebooks with the iPad Pro. Today, literally boxing up notebooks and planners to make the final switch to using the iPad as my notebook/journal (wish apple Journal was IPadOS ready!). One side note: volume of recording seems quite low? But thank you for this content.
Yay! More iPad Content! Also I totally relate with the struggle of going back and forth from pen and paper to my M2 iPad Pro. I ended up settling on the iPad for my notes. It went so well that my GF got an iPad just so that she can start taking digital notes too!
I can honestly say I do a limitless bit of both. I work in education, so I take paper notes on students I work with. Personal notebook at home for passwords and such. Everything else my iPad 10th, especially because I can categorize everything. New subscriber.
I’m glad I stumbled on your channel. I’ve been using paper notes for a few years now with the advantage that you can see multiple pages at once and really quickly take a note down. But more recently I’ve been thinking about jumping back to taking notes on my iPad for a lot of the reasons you mentioned. I end up having to copy my hand written notes into Salesforce anyway And honestly, I hardly ever go back into my notebooks to read notes.
I love your page. I am a closet productivity nerd and want to make videos and content like this to help the normal, average person. You are showing me it’s possible. Also your voice is very calming. 😊
Love that sticker on your orange notebook. Overthinkers, unite, lol. As someone who just bought three new notebooks yesterday (two pretty ones by a French brand and one from Denmark), I will continue to use both paper and digital, I see the benefits in both. I liked using Notability a few years back but am open to other options.
I have had the same issue with going back and forth between iPad and notebooks. Maybe you already have it, I’ve been struggling with where to keep my notes and how to keep them organized and integrated with my calendar. Maybe you already have this video (I’ll go look), but I’d be interested to know how you manage and review your notes. I think it’s great you look back at them on Fridays. I have so much information that is buried in old notes. Anyway, excited to follow you.
Thank you! I plan on digging into how I manage notes digitally. Just letting the notes build up again as I’ve just switched back to iPad in June. Thanks for tuning in.
I have used a Mac since 1989. I prefer my iPad for 90% of my computing tasks. It has been especially good since iPad supports external displays & bluetooth mouse & keyboard.
@@Hedgehog-ji1bm I do prefer iPad for most of my computing tasks. Can it do everything a Mac can? Not really. But that’s the reason why I love it. Mobility, clean, simple, fast, versatile, easy, light, beautiful designed.
Hey there. Immediately connected with you when you said you’ve gone back and forth with paper note taking and digital. I can relate as I still keep going back and forth. Also nice to see a MS ecosystem user … I thought I was the only one. Subbed and can’t wait to watch some more. 😎
I can relate. I tried so many notebooks and systems, but I kept going back to my iPad Pro. Once I added an iPad Mini, it was game over. LOL. All notes are recorded digitally now. Love the video, keep it up!
@@ImSuvasco Using the iPad Pro for note taking was great due to the screen size, but that also made it cumbersome for me. While the Mini is easier to use for notes, for me. I use it a lot more in that capacity than I did the Pro.
@@cecile9026 Easier to handle for note taking. The smaller size of the Mini and ease of use for taking notes has promoted me to use it more for those types of tasks.
Hi Jill. Your video came up in my feed. I’ve gone from MacBook to iPad and back several times. Currently back in love with my iPad and the MKB/Pencil. I find that most of the tasks I do, and those involve files and multitasking, work well enough on the iPad and all the other benefits of the iPad like note taking and content consumption coupled with the compact size really make it a useful device. Cheers!
Do you know that with incoming iOS18, Apple Intelligence will ‘neatify’ your scribbles? I can’t wait for that feature as my scribbles can be horrendous especially when I am in rush, not even myself can read it sometimes. But iOS18 is intelligent enough to make it more readable without changing the handwriting style.
I have the same issue here. I have multiple notebooks but I just got the SuperNote A6x2 and love the experience but it lacks the searchability that apple notes or one note offers. Thanks for the video from Puerto Rico!
One thing that appeals to me about approaching note taking this way is having them be searchable. Is this something for you? Does having them handwritten in OneNote as you do create ant issues in that regard? Thank you for sharing your experiences! Very thought provoking and inspiring for us everyday tech users out in working world!
I have a system for labelling the notes. It works but it could probably be better, so I hope it would evolve. You can search within a note but I don’t find myself searching for specifics too often. I search mostly for a little check box I have drawn and highlighted in green as it’s an action I have noted down. And I come back to these on a Friday when I do a weekly notes review, planning in all of the actions in the upcoming weeks in MS To Do.
That’s something I e had a bit of an issue with: making to capture action items in my notes. Some sort of highlighting sounds like a good option. Another thing I can experiment with! Thank you!
Great Video. Do you have an impulse for me about daily journaling. Switching from day one to paper notebooks, with all the benefits of both worlds. Like the idea of going all in with one system. How do you journaling, if you do?
Just found (and subscribed to) your channel. I’ve bounced between Bullet Journals and the iPad many times as well. I am recently back to the iPad (mostly). I still use paper and pen for stream of consciousness type writing and journaling. I could move towards doing more of that on the iPad using Notes and the Apple Pencil. Great video!
You convinced me that the iPad pro is definitely the device I need for my usage, the way I work, etc. By the way, I have a question: did you go for the 11 or the 13 inch iPad Pro?
Great video now I am a subscriber. Love the idea of a Friday note review will incorporate. I have been an Evernote user for over 10 years and I love my iPad for note taking when I’m onsite at meetings. Thanks for this video.
Hi there! Stumbled upon your video just in the right moment, as I am going all iPad as well. you inspired me to have notes in a format that is available on all platforms and to include them in a desktop review, thank you! I am thinking about buying a cheap iPad Mini for quick jots as well. The 11" pro is a wonderful device, but for reading and jotting quick notes in a meeting the mini might come in handy. I plan to complete eliminate paper this way and have it all in an integrated system between mobile and Mac platforms. I am curious why you chose Onenote as a platform to wrap it all together? It would be interesting to see what makes it the app of choice in this scenario. Principally, I could also use Onenote, but never considered it since the iPad experience was subpar in the past.
I was there with you on one note. I really enjoy apple notes but wish it could do more (Apple notes is my primary note taking app outside work with a mix of paper). I use one note for a few reasons. Firstly, yea it used to be terrible - now it’s actually pretty great, better than apple notes for me. I can copy paste say a slide in and annotate around it which I can’t do in notes. And the fact that once I have written a note say when I’m elsewhere in a different building. It’s already on my desktop when I’m back at my desk in my office. There’s probably so many other useful ways I could improve my use of one note but the basics work really well for me. On the 11 inch size I used it recently in a stand up meeting which I hadn’t done before and it felt really good, so much easier than a note book would.
Neat video 😇. I wonder if you can talk more comfortably with a LAV mic that attached somewhere instead of you holding it. Not a big deal just i used to use the H1N mic and i always have to hold it close to my mouth like that 😂. Later on, i switched to a LAV mic instead and hide it under my shirt. Much better experience. Anyway wonderful video, i use everything on the Ipad too
Nice video! I am also interested getting the 11inch M4 ipad. Your video helped a lot for the decision! Btw. what case are you using for your ipad? The skin looks really great 👍
I’m really goad it helped you with the decision. It’s a dbrand skin on top of the Magic Keyboard. I love it. Here’s the link: dbrand.com/shop/devices/ipad-magic-keyboard-smart-folio-skins
Yes ipad for note taking is great - mid range ipads gets the job done . But its not worth such expensive ipad pro M4 only for note taking & good looks . Ipad lacks a good file management & software has lots of drawbacks. I would rather spend more money on latest MacBook pros than wasting money on latest iPads which is not worth. Anyways, please do share in practical how you arrange your meeting notes in onenote & ipad & desktop. Will be helpful if you show it in practical. New to your channel & subscribed 😊
Totally agree. Cheaper iPads for note taking for sure! I went with this one as I wanted one that could do it all, including video/photo editing. It still gets hot doing that but doesn’t slow. I will do that, thank you.
@@Jillatcheckthebox So nice to hear from you. Yeah true and enjoy your new ipad 😊. And will be waiting for the upcoming videos . Takecare and Have a nice day 😊
If this is what you, yes what he said. The top level is business, delivery & people. I have a level beneath it. And I hope to dig into it more in the future.
Hi great and minimalistic video. Delivery was very clean. I have been doing similar between paper and ipad. Got yourself another sub. Just curious what is the ipad case/cover you're using 🤔
I like the three pillars approach - I’m chronological at the moment and that has issues like you describe. Does Onenote allow for search of handwritten notes?
Hi - thanks for the video. Do you create a new note per meeting? Or do you keep working on that very same note and then copy/paste single items to other apps? (like calendar, todo list, etc.)
So it’s a mix. I hope to do a video on it but not sure how visually to manage the sensitive work info (blurring etc might make it look rubbish). I have a lot of 1-2-1 meetings through out the working week about whatever so I have one note from Mon-Fri that week focusing on those 1-2-1 meetings. I then also have say a project specific meeting on whatever day, so that’s one note on one date. Or I have an objective meeting, again I treat that as one note on one date. Another variant is say I’m tracking delivery of something over the month, I’ll have one note for the month. As long as I label them right I can find them quickly. It’s still evolving.
I’m wondering if you’ve ever considered something like the Supernote? Similar to you I’m looking to simplify my workflow and stay focused and this idea of the digital Analog has me interested. I also enjoy the kinesthetic approach to writing my notes. Just wondering if you have any thoughts on these devices?
I´ve been doing paper for a long time after i had my first iPad, I´ve been wanting to buy an iPad again and you just gave me great reasons on why to do it again. Do you have any preferred iPad suggestion regardin cost/benefits? I just find the pro to be a little bit much. Any comments on if a mini would be a good choice?
The new iPad Air would be perfect. I personally would find the mini too small to use as a notebook. I find my hand is in a comfortable position when using the 11 inch. The pro is definitely too expensive for that. I don’t have a personal laptop so I use it as my computer 😄
I’ve been in this conundrum myself as well and this video came at the best time as I’m deciding myself, I also have had notebooks (also Moleskine 😅) and I’ve been switching in between them and iPad, back and forth, this video really helped me decide. I did notice on my iPad air that scribbling in OneNote drains the battery faster and the Ipad gets warm, does this happens to you in your iPad Pro?
Thank you for the video on how your productive with notes on your iPad. I too use my iPad for notes in meetings and when rounding in the hospital with my staff. I love this device as it helps me to stay organized and on point.
love your videos. Do you take hand written notes and scan it in oneone. I am a mac user and dont feel the OCR is not as great for oneone. Do you have any recommendations.
Hi, there have been occasions where I have been on the go without my iPad and I have used a pocket notebook for a doodle/diagram/thoughts and I have just scanned it into one note.
You’re the second person who said this. I have no idea who this was until I searched - ha interesting. Thanks for sharing. And glad you’re enjoying the videos
Hi, I use apple notes for non-work/personal stuff. It just makes sense for me to be as efficient as possible to work across the MS office set up. Everything else though outside work lives in the apple ecosystem.
Interesting. I love loop! So much to learn still with it. But I love to hand write my notes. I would love it if they did something different with one note now that we have loop and planner and a much better teams.
Hey 👋, This is actually the second comment on this. I haven’t noticed it actually but I will keep this in mind and report back. It gets hot in the centre when I am photo editing down to the pixel level on procreate but I think that’s normal because I’m pushing it hard.
For your 'needs', the Air or the M2 Pro would have sufficed... What a waste of money. People like you let Apple get away with putting up iPadOS revisions that are an utter joke, because y'all lap up whatever Apple puts on the market.
My iPad is only for Netflix, RU-vid, Facebook, Insta, Disney+, Amazon. I’m not a content creator and like majority people who actually work a 9-5 job, I use Windows OS for work.
@@Jillatcheckthebox Thanks. I’ve been struggling with: do I plan my day as a whole or just plan on what I need to do @work. For me it is obvious there are a lot more work items that need to get done in one day.
Hi! I just want to say that I saw your past few videos and it seems like they’ve really taken off on RU-vid! I’m so excited to follow your channels growth and thank you for sharing your videos 😊
Having notes in iPad is anything but minimalism honestly. It's the complete opposite, you can get distracted easily by all the apps and endless possibilities of iPad. Also, using iPad Pro with M4 which is worth more than 1000$ for note taking is such an extreme overkill, it's like buying a Ferrari for commuting to your 9-5 job. Again, the complete opposite of minimalism!
